Yesterday morning I went to Roy Roger's on Wisteria, Germantown, Md. Because of dietary issues the manager, Johnny, was very accommodating in offering me a platter to meet my needs. He is friendly, professional and willing to keep the customers happy. As soon as the coffee ran out in the front, he immediately filed my cup from the back. The restaurant is immaculate and it is refreshing to walk into a clean restroom as well. The French Toast and eggs were delicious and served hot, not lukewarm from sitting under alight. We drive half an hour to get here. This time, we were rained out of our Labor Day BBQ, so we loaded up the dog and came here. What's great? The fried chicken is great, really. The fries? Great too, but they after all are just fries... What stands put is the Roast Beef sandwiches- the buttered, toasted bun, the real (not flaked and formed crap from Arbys). Roast Beef, the strawberry shortcake. All top notch. Want a secret? Ask for the dipping juice separate. The sandwich comes out rarer, and you can dip it to your hearts desire. Like one other Roys, the place is impeccably clean, so it earns another star for just that. Unlike another poster, I wasn't bothered by a couple of cowboys, but I wouldn't mind it if they showed up; the atmosphere is cowboy western, classy and fun, not overdone. Man looka here, I was literally SHOCKED when I was driving to the post office in Gaithersburg and saw this past time. I thought Roy Rogers was a thing of the past and long forgotten. Seeing this place brought back memories and of course I had to stop by. I only ordered the 3 piece chicken tenders and man they were bursting with good flavor. The batter was seasoned extremely well and they were served hot and fresh. I felt like a lil kid all over again while in drive thru. I looked and realized that I've never given a review for Roy Rogers, and I've been to 3 locations in Frederick, Burtonsville, 2 in VA, & this one. My girlfriend lives very close to this location; so I've been here maybe 4 times since I met her in September 2017. Historical background of this Roy Rogers in 2014-15: But I had been to this location long before meeting my g/f. In a previous company in 2014-15, I traveled to various places for that job. A big client of ours was very close to the Germantown MARC station, and I would occasionally have to go up to Germantown to pick up a check or drop something off there. A couple of times during this 2014-15 era, I was hungry & excited about being near a Roy Rogers, and went to this location for lunch because I knew I could get an excellent quality roast beef sandwich. Roast Beef: They NEVER disappointed. I generally got the medium #4 combo (or the fried chicken), which is a medium roast beef sandwich, fries, & drink. I used to be a big fan of Arby's (especially when I was a kid, but even into adulthood), but after having Roy Rogers roast beef, I realized that Arby's is weak. I mean the curly fries are pretty good at Arby's, but still overall, Roy Rogers is far superior. French Fries: The fries are great, but I've had better fries (Chick Fil-A waffle fries...yum), but what I really like about Roy Rogers are the various options of dipping sauces. I like mayo & their 'world famous Roys' bbq sauce to dip the fries in. Also, the BBQ for the roast beef sandwich. I use the quotes for the 'world famous' because they really aren't world famous. I mean you don't have Russian leader Putin walking into a Roy Rogers asking for the bbq sauce he's heard so many great things about. Fried Chicken: Perhaps, one of the times in 2014-15, I got the fried chicken combo at this location, which is WAY better than Popeye's or KFC. That comes with a biscuit and fries, which are both delicious. But in the last two years, I've shied away from fried chicken because of the extreme unhealth value. The last time I had fried chicken at a Roy Rogers, it was at the Burtonsville location like in summer 2017. The last time I had fried chicken in general was one day in February 2018 (and only time in the past 6 months) at a KFC because I was feeling blue, and it was good comfort food plus more importantly I had unused coupons for KFC! 2016: I ended that job I had in 2014-15 and was in another company from 2015 until April 2017 (because of the company closing). One of those times in 2016 I had work travel to Frederick, MD, and I contacted my friend, who lived in Germantown, to meet me there for lunch, and we both enjoyed nice conversation and even more excellent roast beef. 2017-18: After I met my girlfriend who lives very close to here in September 2017, I went to this location maybe 4 more times since then. In November 2017, after an overnight stay, she joined me for lunch at Roy Rogers. I got my usual, and she got a salad. I even joked with the cashier, I don't come to Roy's to eat healthy, and the cashier was in I don't think my g/f appreciated that because she didn't like that I was making fun of eating healthy. Whenever I even mentioned Roy Rogers, she would cringe in horror saying that it's nasty. She wasn't referring to the taste so much; more just how the food is health-wise. She does the same whenever I say positive things about Chick FilA (which is convenient lunch option from my office), Wendy's, Burger King, or any other fast food restaurant. She was proud of me recently when I texted her that two times in a row I went to CFA, I got a salad. In January, I did feel a little sick after eating Roy Rogers one night, and my g/f exclaimed, "See that stuff is bad!" I argued that it was probably just coincidence. There was another time in March, we were catching a movie and didn't have much time. She said she was fine with Subway (in the same shopping center), but I had Subway recently and think they are below average for sub sandwiches. I insisted on Roy Rogers. So, she got her Subway and then I got my Roy Rogers, and we both ate at Roy Rogers. In summary, while the food may not be the best for you, it is excellent tasting, and they are friendly in the Germantown location. read more

First of all, once upon a time, there were no Arby's just Roy Rogers restaurants. Then Arby's bought Roy Rogers but because of various agreements, not all Roy Rogers franchises were sold to Arby's. Interesting that once upon a time Wendy's and Arby's were a merged restaurant chain. Overall I like their Roast Beef sandwiches and I love the mashed potatoes and gravy. The guy taking the order talked so fast i literally told him I can't understand what he's saying. Really, this and blue crabs is all I look forward to when I come back home to Maryland (I'd add Cluck-U to that list but it just ain't the same anymore). Theres nothing like a Gold Rush chicken sandwich with monterrey jack cheese, honey and bacon strips, w/ a bit of horseradish I add on my own. Add on either a side of thick cut fries (best!), baked beans and ham (sooo sweet and tangy), cole slaw or a baked potato. Then add a single chicken drumstick and biscuit, and top it all off with a strawberry shortcake dessert! (ok, its not cornbread anymore... but still good with a biscuit.) All this as fast food! Let's not forget the awesome "Fixins bar" with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions to top your own sandwich the way YOU want it. Oh yeah, and make your own side salad... but youre officially not supposed to do that... so I'm not recommending it *cough*. (That would be like stuffing a handful of napkins in your purse... and what kind of mom would do that?) Three sour dough bacon cheeseburgers and 3 large fries for almost $25? It was 10pm and we were hungry, do what the hell, I'm tired of McDonald's. We pulled up to the window and waited. Paid with a credit card and waited... then waited some more. I looked inside and the place was empty and we were the only car in line. Still waiting.... 15 minutes later, the window slides open and two bags are shoved through the window at us. We drive home eating fries on the way, open the bags and all three sour dough bacon cheeseburgers look like the bread was just "passed over" the stove before they put the meat patty, 2 pieces of bacon and a slice of uncooked cheese on it. Roy Rodgers was always a favorite of mine in college. You paid a bit more but I felt you got more at a higher quality. I was happy when the group decided to revive the chain years ago. I ordered the basic cheese burger meal. The burger is a good size and the fries were freshly made. What makes Roy Rogers great is the "fixins" bar. With a nice choice of vegetables to add to your burger it makes it a real meal.- It is clear everything is recently cut and fresh. The numerous sauces round it all out. I enjoyed my burger piled high with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, boom boom and horseradish sauce. The fries were crispy, not greasy. A nice meal. A bit pricey at nearly $9 but everything is these days and the quality is several steps above McDonalds. read more

This review is solely on the customer service I had literally just experience. I walked in to order my food and as I was waiting for my food to be ready I asked the lady working there if there were any more ketchup and sauces as the sauce pumps were not there. Although she barely responded to me nor acknowledge that I was there asking her a question she brought out the sauce pumps so I went ahead and helped myself and started pumping sauce into the to go container only to find myself covered in sauce ruining my brand new Hugo Boss hoodie. Apparently when the sauces were refilled in these pumps the lady who had refilled it did not make sure to prestage these pumps to remove any air that was caught inside. So when I had pumped it initially , it had exploded all over me. not a single employee there said anything to me including the woman who was the one who refilled them as she looked at me like I was a complete clutz as she said absolutely nothing to me. No apologies or any assistance as I was asking her to make sure these pumps were prepped correctly before I begin to help myself again in which she failed to do. It took another worker to come out to show her how to prep the pump as I was left standing there without any help nor any type of apologies. Roy Rogers is great however with this experience, I really hope that the staff are better educated on improving their customer service and have at least some form of empathy for their customers due to their mistakes. my brand new designer hoodie is now considered stained and does not look like I am able to remove the stains. read more
