Food was bad bland no taste and just left a lot to wish for and it took them like an hour to bring out the food but that's not even the worst part was THE SERVICE OMG I HAVE NEVER EVER EVER felt so discriminated against my partner and I (people of color) came in at about 10 pm when we walked into the restaurant there was no acknowledgment that we were even in the restaurant. We walked in and stared at the bartender and at the people run the restaurant and they stared back not offering a seat or anything kinda just wondering why we were even there. There is no POC in this restaurant and it is extremely uncomfortable for us they took a while to even acknowledge us or even try to seat us. Tho was the worst restaurant I have ever been too definitely do not go to this place is you are a person of color because you will 100% be discriminated against and it seems that your money is not worth the same as a white person who were greeting treated amazing by the staff and bartender.

I found this place on Google after a late yoga class nearby and it's honestly a hidden gem. . Roy is a local Italian bistro that is open daily from 6 PM to midnight. When all the other venues are closing up for dinner service, they are just getting started. They have the cutest handwritten menu complete with appetizers, starters, a full bar, entrées and dessert. . I cannot rave about the space enough with all the cool artwork from local, late and great Santa Barbara artist Ken Nack and vintage design pieces. My friend & I both ordered from the starter menu. She had the huge veggie plate and I had the fish and chips, which was actually made with salmon that night, but surprisingly did not disappoint. Portions are fairly big so don't let your eyes fool your stomach. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the presentation was very beautiful. The chef Roy himself even came to the table to greet us and Morgan, who was the only server in the restaurant was doing a kick ass job taking care of everybody as the night picked up. . We're suckers for Italian food, so I have nothing but good things to say. Go try them out for yourself if you're in the downtown Santa Barbara area!

The food was wonderful here. The service was spectacular. Our waitress was very nice and Roy even came out to fill our water glasses. The ambiance inside is like an art gallery. I have been coming here for years. Their soups and salads are also very good. Definitely a place to have a nice dinner or to celebrate a special day. The live band was great. They played a lot of Led Zeppelin and Tom Petty.

    Rack of lamb

I was excited to go here. The ambiance was great, the hostess was very nice, the owner even stopped by to check on us... But, I ordered a new dish they just started serving. The rack of lamb. It selled very off, but given this was not some I normally eat I thought maybe it was me. But the smell was so off putting I couldn't take more than a few bites. They wanted me to take it home to give you someone else, but thank goodness I didn't because I ended up with the worst food poisoning ever! I looked it up, and the #1 way to know if lamb has gone bad is by the smell. My question is how did the chef not know this? And how did he not notice?! My husband called to let them know so no one else gets sick. Hopefully they listen but it sounds like they were rushing and didn't say anything except "thanks for letting us know". All in all... I'd be afraid to go back. But if you steer clear of the lamb I'm sure you'll love this place.

There was an indoor area, and we didn't know at the time, but there are separate outdoor waiter service areas and counter service. We did counter service. There were two people at registers. There was literally no one in front of us and no marked nor even obvious line area. Naturally we stand a few feet in front of one of the registers waiting for her to say, "can I help you" before we move to. Instead the woman (to make it worse, I think she was the patio manager because she was older than the others and seemed to be doing more things than just working a register) gives us the, "I need you to wait in the line area over there" and points to a barrel with no indication that it's a line. You know like the old David Spade skit. This already left a bad taste in my mouth because again there was no line marked, no one waiting, and it's not like we got up in her space or were being pushy. She was just power tripping. To make it worse, we came here because they literally have "full bar" painted on the outside of the building, and the other places around are mostly wine bars or beer gardens. BUT (keep reading)... One of the young people working calls us from the "line of just us" to help us (because of course the other woman wasn't going to). They have 3 specialty margaritas listed. I ask if I can just get a "regular margarita". She says "no because they only sell pre-made drinks". Uh, what about the FULL BAR? Then we sit down. They have a few long picnic bench style tables. They all had a party at them but they were big so we asked a group if we could share the opposite end. The other customers were cool and had no problem with it. BUT... There were no napkins nor condiments. When our food arrived, it was mediocre. We left unhappy but didn't make a fuss. As we were leaving, the power tripping woman thanked us for coming as if she hadn't just been a total B to us for no reason.

The place was full, including indoor and outdoor seating, great ambience and light level, and lovely string lights above the seating outdoors. To start they bring over a delectable dill popcorn which was a rich, salty, dill and butter creation. Totally set a fun tone for the meal. Then we had the crispy Brussels sprouts (ORDER THESE!!!) they were divine, the sesame and lime combination was reminiscent of a great pad Thai, with the perfect amount of sauce and tiny bites of figs which all worked together in a way I wouldn't have expected. For the mains we had the shrimp toast and the pork ribs, both fantastic both well portioned and both 10/10s. Pork ribs fell off the bone easily and were spicy and tangy without overdoing flavor and the shrimp toast tasted like a great gumbo sauce and the shrimps were big! The food was so delicious the halibut on the specials was quite literally the most delicious fish I've ever tasted!! If it's available get it! However, we ordered the steak and it was pretty chewy and not seasoned well. Pretty disappointing after trying all the other tasty foods. Our beet salad also had an ant inside of it likely from the floral garnishes but that tells me the greens were washed before placed on my plate..

There's no sign. I drove by several times and parked, determined to find it. It was next to Lama Dog. I ordered at the window from a very friendly and efficient staff member. I found a nice bar-height communal table inside a super cool restored warehouse with awesome indie music jamming, also surrounded by big screens and sporting events. I ordered a bottled Arnold Palmer from the bar, not realizing the bottled drinks are self-serve. Nevertheless, the bartender kindly got it for me along with a glass of ice. It's topped with garlic aioli, avocado, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, and crispy skinny onion rings, just perfect. We'd made reservations and were seated promptly when we arrived. The ambiance was warm and inviting. We noticed that the diners' demographic skewed older, but that was fine with us--it made for a relaxing time. We started things off with some cocktails: I got the Opal martini (gin and vodka, with Gorgonzola stuffed Olive--very good) and the hubby got the house old fashioned (not too sweet, also very good). They brought out a small complimentary bread basket, which had two different kinds of excellent bread. Carb avoidance be damned! We ordered the following: - warm seafood salad (lots of fresh seafood--great) - butter lettuce salad with Gorgonzola (so simple and so delicious) - mushroom risotto (delicious! Cheesy with bits of walnuts and asparagus as well as the shrooms) We thought the prices were reasonable prices for the quality, and the service was excellent. Overall a really great experience; would definitely try again.

I've been here many times and usually love it, but I feel like service has been lacking lately…read more I recently went with family and saw they have an "Opal Martini," which is Tito's vodka, some brand of gin, and a cheese olive. No vermouth. Very weird and sounds kinda gross, so I requested a classic vodka martini instead with vermouth and the olive. They bring out just a glass of chilled vodka, no vermouth, and a cheese olive. I check the bill: $12 MARTINI -$5 UP (upgrade?!? Are you joking? It's a SWAP!) -$1 CHEESE OLIVE (ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?) So they charged me $18 to turn their decapitated martini made with UCSB student-budget vodka into a regular martini, and then charged me extra for the already included olive because I had the gall to change the drink! The waitress didn't even bother mentioning how I barely touched the drink, which our usual Opal servers would have 100% caught onto. Younger girl with black hair and very nonchalant, dismissive attitude. Atmosphere looked nice but between the fire alarm going off from someone burning something in the kitchen, table of 6 behind us that had cackling harpy laughs (not unusual for Opal), and the blasting music, you can't even have a decent conversation at dinner. I'm pretty over this place and will not recommend it anymore. I always try to stay positive about SB's food scene as someone from LA, but constant experiences like this are what make me go "Damn, if only the food here didn't suck so badly...."
