Over all these years, I have avoided the Funky Zone for various silly reasons. But for a while now, when I visit my friend's auto repair shop downtown, he always gets Turkey Burgers from here. Always looking for places to have solo lunch, I finally ventured to FZ. There's no sign. I drove by several times and parked, determined to find it. It was next to Lama Dog. I ordered at the window from a very friendly and efficient staff member. I found a nice bar-height communal table inside a super cool restored warehouse with awesome indie music jamming, also surrounded by big screens and sporting events. I ordered a bottled Arnold Palmer from the bar, not realizing the bottled drinks are self-serve. Nevertheless, the bartender kindly got it for me along with a glass of ice. Now here's the best part: the very best Turkey Burger I have ever had--way better than any take-out before. It's topped with garlic aioli, avocado, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, and crispy skinny onion rings, just perfect. I also ordered the fries with truffle and Parmesan--absolutely delicious, though a bit too flavorful, which overshadowed the turkey burger's flavor. I've tried both sweet and regular potato fries here, and they are excellent too. This place really hits the spot. Can't wait to come back. read more

We stopped by Lama Dog for a drink and were very happy to find this little "nook" inside serving food. Perfect for grabbing a bite to go with your beer. Got their Lobster Mac & Cheese. Was enough for us to share between two. Creamy and cheesy, but could've used more lobster. Would've expected a better lobster to macaroni ratio with this one. Prices are a little steeper here. It was $25 for the Lobster mac & cheese, which I would've been more open to with a bit more fish in the dish. Plus, when I go to grab a beer, I'm not necessarily wanting to pay $20+ for a burger without fries. Went there to watch an NBA game, VIBE was amazing, they had several TVs so other sports events where on as well. There were several other businesses that shared the space and it was open seating. I sat at the bar which was a different business than the "Nook" (which is a food only business). You have to order at a window and are then given a buzzer to alert you when your food is ready. I ordered the "seafood burger", which was a blended patty of salmon, shrimp, and scallops and I opted for truffle fries. They don't skimp on the fish. It's a very filling dish. The flavors of the citrus slaw, picked onion, avocado, salsa verde and chipotle aioli worked well together. They are made with corn tortillas making them gluten free. Also had some of my husband's sweet potato fries that came with his burger. Very crisp and tasty. We actually had a bit of a hard time finding the place since the outside was the icon of a dog and nook had a different logo. It had a really cute sitting area outside where you could sit with your pets and a kind of trendy American upbeat bar/eating area inside. The food was really delicious and filling. Definitely liked that on either side you have a choice of Lama Dog Brewery, Topa Topa brewery and in the room with Topa Topa was a winery as well (did not catch the name). The food was amazing. We got the Nook burger and the Halibut Tostada. The fries were perfectly crispy and the burger was nice and juicy. The halibut tostada really light and fresh. Perfect quick bite while grabbing a beer. I like to rate my places from 1 to 10. 1 through 3 - will never comeback 4 through 5.8 - will come back if someone I'm with wants to try the spot 5.9 though 7.0 -will come back 7.1 through 9.9 will make an effort to come back and I would recommend the spot 10.0 is the best place! (Haven't had a 10 because there is always a better place out there. My rating for this place is 6.8 (Will you come back? For sure!) I go to Lama Dog way too often, which means I eat at the Nook a lot! You order at the first window, get a table buzzer, wait for your order while you enjoy a bevvy, and pick up your order when the buzzer goes off at the other window. Sometimes you bus your dishes yourself, other times someone comes by and picks it up from your table. I've had the turkey burger, tater tots, sweet potato fries, regular fries, truffle fries, pork belly quesadilla, fish tacos, vegan burger, and shrimp salad, but more often than not if I'm having a meal here, I get the spicy fried chicken sandwich. I always ask for no cheese because I'm lactose intolerant and they've removed it every single time without fail which is awesome...and I've eaten a lot of their fried chicken sandwiches. Always a hefty portion and I'm never hungry after (and I eat a lot). For about a year, maybe summer of 2021 until this summer, they switched from their lovely thicker steak-like fries to skinny fries. So glad they switched back to thicker fries with more substance!! Service is usually good every time I've gone, which includes peak weekend hours. Prices have gone up since 2019, but that's COVID life and inflation. I like how they have something for everyone, and they also have daily specials and sometimes cookies and pretzels. Food goes great with whatever you're drinking at Topa Topa or Lama.
