Ate at Peking House recently, as I was shopping nearby at BJ's and was in the mood for soup. I tried their Hot and Sour soup, and it was delicious. Favorite place for Chinese buffet, primarily for their hot and sour soup which I've found to be the best in the area. Good quantities on the buffet tables are small which means they replenish everything often. Favorite appetizers are the pot stickers, chicken dumpling, shrimp dumplings, egg rolls, spring rolls. And stuffed clam shells. Crab Rangoon are good as well. Entree favorites are General Tso's chicken. Pepper steak, barbecued pork, and other chicken and beef dishes. The buffet is varied and also has chicken wings, quesadillas. Chicken fingers and a number of other things for those that want something in addition to Chinese. You can also get grilled items at the hibachi station and they offer sushi too. There is also a dessert station but can't speak to the items there as that's not my focus when at this restaurant. Service is always great with the servers being very attentive to your needs. Booths are comfortable as is there table seating. Definitely where I go when I'm in the mood for different textures and flavors of Chinese food. read more

The food is really good and they keep their lines fresh, which can't be said of the other Chinese buffet in town. It is a family run place and they are super nice. The waitstaff are nice. They even make fresh sushi. It is very nice and they bathrooms are clean and beautiful. Been coming her for years and the family know me on sight. A nice but older Chinese Restaurant locates next to BJs! Reasonable prices for a nice warm clean, Chinese buffet , which our family enjoyed a few days before Christmas! Very good for what is has. One of the smallest buffets I have been too yet it is definitely one of the best I have been to. Everything is clean, the employees are nice and the waitress always picks up empty plates fast. I love Chinese while my boyfriend doesn't but this place has both Chinese and American food so we're both full and happy. I also like the fact that the food smell isn't overwhelming inside the restaurant. And it is only $10.45 per adult which is an awesome price. read more

The only reason this place even gets 2 stars is because of the service. When my group had got there many of the trays did not have anything in them but they were more than happy to make what we wanted off of request. Once we did get our food it was sub par at best and was lacking flavor. The ambiance was also lacking and really took away from the experience. I was waffling between 3 and 4 stars on this but decided that, for what it is (a Chinese buffet), Peking House is pretty decent. It's a small space, but clean and well organized. Being small their selection is naturally limited to some degree, but you'll find what they have is cooked well and it all has flavor. Few things stood out, but I did really enjoy their shrimp dumplings. I was also impressed to see new trays of food come out even with old food available, it told me they cared about how long their food is sitting on the line. The price was average ($12.18 for one dinner buffet plus tea) and the service attentive. I hope you agree all this deserves a little more than 3 stars. read more

The staff was very courteous and efficient, but the food was definitely not up to my standards. The pork fried rice had an oily taste and was yellow like Mexican rice without many vegetables or much meat in it. The chicken and broccoli was ok, but the sauce was a bit tacky in texture and the chicken was sort of flimsy. You know what... I like this place. My boyfriend and I have been here twice and both times the staff has been overly courteous and welcoming, and the food has been very enjoyable. Tonight while we were there, we watched a woman and her two kids walk around the buffets and make faces at what was on the sushi table. "This is all they have?" The woman cooking at the hibachi station (possibly the owner?) saw/heard her and offered to make her whatever she'd like... meanwhile I wanted to slap the rudeness out of this potential diner. What buffet offers to make you a dragon roll bc you didn't see something specific? It's a buffet style restaurant and so of course they will cater to most popular options. I will absolutely go again and wanted to leave a five star review for excellent service, very clean restaurant, and a very good value for a nice dinner. Also def try the general tsos. While cat sitting for my kid sister, I felt the need to sample the local cuisine. So, ok, a local buffet was not what I had in mind; but, sometimes, these things do work out. Now be advised, this is one of those times when an additional half star is warranted. Peking House was better than three, but, not quite four stars. I'm sure you want to know, so, here's why. To begin, the staff was great. The sole waitress, when I arrived at dinner time, was not only friendly and attentive, but, seemed genuinely interested in being on the job. That alone is worth a star in my book; but let's face it, I was there to eat. I was encouraged by the number of take out customers that appeared while I was being seated. Naturally, I chose the buffet. There are three steam tables, one of which, to my delight, was devoted to seafood. I've come to expect the standards, crab meat, tilapia, and salmon along with Crab Rangoon (which was quite tasty while avoiding having those hardened edges that seem all too common) and, certainly Peking House delivered on these; but, the clams on the half shell and stuffed scallops were certainly a treat. The second table was devoted to traditional Chinese fare. Sweet and sour chicken, shredded pork with broccoli, pork fried rice, you know the drill. All choices (and I sampled most) were prepared as you would expect, tasty and within expectations, but not outstanding in any way. The third table was perhaps the most interesting. Clearly, this was an attempt at being an "international" restaurant, featuring American, "Mexican" and other non-Chinese dishes. Note that "Mexican" is in quotes. Why? Simple: "taco". What was labeled as such, turned out to be no such thing. I can't tell you what this delicious seasoned pork with chopped green onion in a baked pita was; but, I can tell you I wish I had found it before my second plate of food. If all this is not enough, sushi is featured at the counter just beyond the steam tables. Again, tasty; but, largely "adequate". The price for this all you can eat experience was just over twelve bucks, which makes it a great place to feed the whole family when the urge for Chinese food goodness strikes. read more

This is mostly a typical "Chinese" buffet restaurant with all your usual Americanized Chinese fares, i.e. orange chicken, fried scallops paddies, etc. But a few entrees pleasantly surprised me, including the "Japanese chicken" - tender and flavorful, and the chicken balls - small balls of ground chicken mixed with scallions and other sauces and deep fried to a dark brown shade (This is a home-made Chinese item that I rarely see on buffets). I also loved the sesame balls. I don't know if they made these themselves but it doesn't taste like the generic ones filled with red bean paste (most Chinese restaurants buy these in bulks). This small lunch buffet also had some sushi and quite a few choices of fresh desserts. I liked that they laid out two full-size cakes, in addition to the usual Chinese buffet dessert items. This was a great stop to satisfy me and my coworkers' greasy Asian food craving in the Willimantic area, especially considering it was CHEAP! This is a small family run Chinese/sushi buffet place that always has super fresh everything. I think all of their offers are made in small batches as to insure fresh and not dry food. So I was hangry today and chose to eat at Peking House again as I didn't want to wait for my food elsewhere. Bad idea. What happens when "fresh from the box" food sits for a little while on a buffet? It becomes tough (or mushy depending on what it is), salty and barely edible. Even the food that doesn't sit under heat lamps like the sushi tasted off. I can't help but feel like I just played Russian roulette with my digestive system. It's a shame because good service and nice ambiance is pointless if the food is awful. Lesson learned. This is a Chinese buffet. It has lower diversity than Royal Buffet, but the flavors and textures are really superior. The sesame balls are to die for! The price for two is just over $20 but includes free tea and dessert. Like all buffet restaurants, when the place is busy, the food is hot and tasty. On a slow day, sometimes the food has been out longer than I like. So we usually go on rush times...again a good place for a Thursday or Friday early evening. Every time! Just happened again. I ordered one dish, got another that cost more than the one I ordered. Yes they charged me the extra and said that's what you ordered, you have to pay. I ordered Szechuan chicken for $6.59 they gave me Szechuan beef with chicken for $11.25. The word beef never came out of my mouth. Will never go there again.
