Was at Royal Cafe last weekend. Owner or manager (the younger guy) had no interest in protecting himself or his patrons from Covid. The entire time I was there he had his face mask pushed down to his mouth. When I questioned him, he laughed at me. Obviously, not concerned about respecting others. Giving 3 stars to match the current rating, let me know if this is not allowed because I ended up not eating here. My friend lives nearby and we were trying to find a breakfast spot in the area. We stopped here, I am not sure if it was a holiday or if they had some sort of special, but the place was packed. There was a long line and the layout it is not well setup for this type of situation. But, on top of that, the crowd in line was not very friendly, I would say they were borderline aggressive. They were rude if you asked if there were in line, but also they would not move so one could walk to the end of the line. We fought our way there, then looked around and at the same time decided it was a good idea to leave. Bottom line, what I am trying to say is that apparently they have decent food and very good prices, but if you are very sensitive to good manners you may be better going somewhere else. Great spot for a simple breakfast ,cheap and good ,the service is great and the food comes out really fast at least in my experience. I paid like 12$ for my meal and coffees wth a few add ons to me that was really cheap I love there breakfast. As far the lunch and dinner menu I can't give my opinion I only do breakfast here hope this helps read more

This may sound obvious, with most of them serving the same items, but not all cafes/diners are equal. Now, I'm a satellite technician and I work all over the west valley. Whenever I have a lunch break, I usually stop at whatever is close. Today it happened to be royal cafe in sun city. While the area is predominantly senior citizens, I love breakfast more than any other meal. So I sat by myself and ordered my food (a #4 combo because I'm a sucker for eggs, pancakes, and bacon AKA the classics). The service was quick. I ordered, had my food, and ate it within 12 minutes. Also, the waitress was nice and she didn't waste my time. She brought the check with the food so I didn't have to wait. As for the food, it was all delicious. Fluffy pancakes, perfectly scrambled eggs, and crispy but not burned bacon. I tried this place in a whim and wasn't disappointed. read more

I agree with 5 stars! This is an American, comfort food, breakfast, lunch, and dinner senior cafe par excellence and here's why. Food is very good. We ate dinner there. They make their soups there fresh and from scratch. I had the vegetable soup and it was excellent. Full of fresh veggies perfectly cooked and the broth was rich and flavorful and perfectly spiced with a very low salt profile. My wife had the meat loaf with fresh veggies, and I had the spaghetti with meat sauce and freshly sauteed mushrooms, onions, and green peppers topped, both freshly made with scratch made sauces. For desert we had the freshly made Pineapple Upside Down Cake, with fresh pineapple. Great prices too. Both complete dinners were $8.99. Service was prompt and friendly. Dining room and restrooms were clean and in good maintenence. Maybe if you were expecting a fancy, white table cloth place you were dsappointed? But that would have been your fault... read more

After reading the reviews we were looking forward to a nice breakfast but very disappointed in this restaurant. First off we were originally shown to a booth that had cracked vinyl seats on both sides of the booth. I looked around and the majority looked the same. Finally found a better booth myself! Also the entry into the restaurant was disgusting! The cement was covered with bird droppings!!! Should have turned around right then but we went in. Not very busy but the service was very slow! Finally placed our orders for eggs over easy, bacon, home fries and toast. When food arrived the bacon was good and unpalatable so it's sitting on my plate uneaten. The toast was also cold, the spread on it was in melted and it wasn't butter! The only item on my plate that was warm were the home fries but they were not fried evenly. Some were lightly browned and majority still white! We will not be returning and DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT! read more

It's crazy how wonderful the wide variety is of what they offer you for breakfast lunch and dinner. Went by for take out. It was quite slow, lots of parking. I have to say, hidden gem. I had the fried chicken. Amazing!!! Greek salad was great, my daughter had the chicken and rice soup. If you're in Sun City and are looking for a place to eat that's local, this is the place. I found this place by accident bc I didn't want to eat breakfast at Denny's. The menu is pretty straightforward, and the prices are very cheap. The decor is definitely dated, but that's probably how the owners keep the cost of food down. Just bc it's cheap doesn't mean it's not good! The food was pretty good. My friend asked for soft scrambled eggs, and was delighted to get them. The bacon was crisp, and not greasy. We both got the biscuits and gravy, which was definitely filling. In fact, I couldn't finish mine. If I'm in the neighborhood, I'll definitely come back. read more

We've recently started going to the Royal Cafe fairly regularly and I have to say, the food is pretty darn good!! Always fresh and hot, good sized portions and well, it's just good home style food! The atmosphere is predominantly seniors, but that's a good thing - they've already been to the rest! The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. This is the worst service I've ever gotten. I had to go up to the front to get my own drink because I had waited for a water for 30 minutes. She never actually came with the drink. When she came by and refilled my coffee she wasn't paying attention and spilled coffee on my phone. She didn't say sorry or try to clean it up, she just left! Luckily my phone is okay. The food is undercooked and disgusting. The water is tap and my table is extremely wobbly. They also don't have the right condiments on the table, I had to get up and go ask for salt and pepper. There was no silverware either. They also have a crap ton of flies, I'd understand a few but I have like 8 on my plate and so does all of my family. So the only stars here are for our server! My wife and I are all about hole in the wall places to find and love....THIS is NOT one! We left church hungry, as usual, and tried to search Yelp to find nooks we could check out near us...this was not on Yelp yet but we shop at two different stores in this complex and we thought of it. We walked in with a very large group of people and feared we would have a lengthy wait, thank goodness it was not the case. This place is huge, maybe an old banquet hall or something of the such...we were sat rather quickly. Our table was filthy, still had crumbs all over the table so we moved all the napkins, silverware and condiment basket and flagged someone down to wipe it off. She was quickly followed by our waitress who was very sassy and quick witted, which I love! She brought us coffee, which was VERY weak and the wife compared it to dirty water. I was hoping the meal went up from here....we were ready to order when she came back and when I ordered a lunch sandwich she said they weren't doing lunch yet...I was frustrated because it was already 1045 so I asked if they had chicken fried steak, which I ordered and the wife ordered a combination of two different breakfasts trying to make a chorizo burro. We didnt wait long at all to get our food and it was ok, just ok. My wife said the chorizo was edible however her tortilla must have been warm in the microwave and was IMPOSSIBLE to fold...it broke up as she did. The meal turned out to be a little pricier than we imagined because they charged us pretty much for 3 meals to have my wife make the meal she wanted. Needless to say we wont be back but I at least wanted to recognize the server, however I cant give you her name because they dont wear name tags and it wasnt on the bill....keep up the good work anonymous waitress!!! read more

More like a 2.5 but I am going to be gracious. Neighbor wanted the Friday night fish fry, so I am back. Food a 3 Service a weird, make your order and then bill is presented. A 2 in my book. Green beans were fresh and not over cooked. All you can eat fish or shrimp...not the best but affordable...you want more? They bring it. Atmosphere is older and more grungy. Could use a spring cleaning to get dirt and dust in order. Bathroom clean and well prepared ... a 3. Minus points for being non eco friendly. Multiple plastic cups for sauces and salad dressings. Add a baked potato and then there are 5 on the table. USE small bowls please...very disturbing to me. How many covers a night? A week? A month? Bad form and bad for the environment. Don't know what it is here but they don't respect space. They crowd you and use the back of the booth to write other people's checks. Just rude I think. Positive note. As snow birds we have eaten at the Royal many times over the last several years, but before I knew about yelping. So, taking everything into consideration I can honestly say this is a great place for breakfast which is what we usually come for. They do a bustling business and on Sundays you have to get there early or you will hit the 'after church' crowd and then you have a bit of a wait. The staff is friendly and helpful and if it's not busy they are fine with letting you sip your coffee and finish the crossword puzzle. We've eaten dinner there a few times too. I've tried the chicken breast and fish of some sort and was pleased. The baked potatoes are good, the salads are fresh and their dressings are great. The times we have had dinner they have usually served fresh green beans as the veggie. I have not tried their home made desserts but they look delicious. So, this place is really a very high three in my yelpimation. read more

My friend eats breakfast here alot with her volunteer group. I think they have some $2.50 eggs, toast, coffee, hash brown deal then. I visited here when I was in my 20's and built a retirement building complex across from the QT, I'm now 47. Food was excellent. I believe it's under new ownership now. But the service and food then has not changed from then to today. Went last weekend and this weekend, both visits the food was excellent. Just as I remembered it. And the service both times, different servers, was top notch. So friendly and inviting even with all the craziness in the country right now. It was very refreshing to have a meal there, almost like a small escape from the reality. Meant a lot to my wife and I. When I got the bill, I was blown away at how affordable it was for a hot meal. Had a Breaded Tenderloin with fries. I'm from Indiana where a restaurant's name is made by the Breaded Tenderloins they serve. This restaurant won't make its name from this sandwich but the Tenderloin was quite good. Breaded nicely and not over cooked. The fries were very good also. I get hungry for a Breaded Tenderloin and going to the Royal Cafe serves that hunger very nicely. read more

My husband and I have been going there for at least 8 years now. We are from back east and when we found this place it was great, service was great, food great, it was our Sunday brunch place. They recently opened up a new restaurant on Bell and ever since then this place has been totally neglected. Service has declined, cleanliness declined, food has lacked and the owner could care less about keeping his clientele. Don't even bother complaining he is the definition of apathy. It's almost as if he wants the business to fail. So sad! Fortunately my husband and I have found another diner that is what royal cafe used to be. :-) I wouldn't be surprised if they tank or get closed down soon. read more

Yes it dated, and the price might seem like a deal. However my choice of the country breakfast #10 on the menu was a mistake. Biscuits are hard and seem old, gravy had no flavor and my over easy eggs were closer to raw. The bacon was precooked and did not even get heated up in a microwave. The Royal Cafe is a true "greasy spoon dinner". The place is a dive BUT the food was outstanding and the service was exceptional. We went for breakfast and the pancakes were perfect! Went here recently for dinner I had a hot turkey open faced sandwich. While eating this turkey sandwich I noticed a black speck on the plate under a piece of turkey .Upon closer inspection I found that it had legs. I do not blame the waitress for serving it to me because it was hidden under the turkey but I do blame the cook for putting it on my plate and the owner for not cleaning up this place the bathrooms are not really clean and I was told that the men's bathroom The stall divider has rust all over it. You can generally tell the quality of a restaurant by the cleanliness of their bathrooms this place really tells it all . I WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO THIS PLACE EVER. read more
