As a Certified Chef and Serve-Safe Manager I always look at eateries from different points of view. This was our first time eating at JiMichael's. First: Is the environment welcoming? In this case, we barely got in and were greeted right away by Dawn and asked did we perfer a booth or table. Then were seated at a clean booth and the seats were clean as well. My only negative take away is that the booths are a little tight. Full disclosure; I am 6'5" @ 280lbs. Second¹: Amy was our server and got to us quickly. It was obvious that this was not her first rodeo. She was very clear with answers and made additional offers to compliment our choices. Amy never let our water or coffee get low. We were not her only customers. She brought the complete order at one time and it was exactly as ordered. Third: The food. Everything was cooked as ordered. The portions were not lacking. If you leave this restaurant hungry, it's your fault. The only negative take away was that the food could have been a bit warmer. Personal preference. Fourth: Atmosphere. Even though it was busy, the noise level was quite low. Folks of all ages were present. I observed the greeter, Dawn wiping tables and chairs as people left. She did not just wipe around the condiment station, she moved everything so that she could do a complete wipe down. She even wiped down the side edges of the tabled and wiped off the chairs. This brings me to my fifth point of view. Cleanliness- Bathrooms will tell you a lot about the staff. Both the men's and woman's bathrooms were immaculate and well stocked. I was impressed with the soap dispenser having real soap instead of the cheap foam. I highly recommend JiMichael's for the whole family or a luncheon or special occasion dinner. read more

A Midwestern Classic Done Right at Jimichael's I found Jimichael's while searching for "breaded pork tenderloin sandwich near me," and I couldn't have been happier. The restaurant is celebrating its 30‑year anniversary at this location, and the owner is rumored to be from Chicago, which makes sense--the place feels very much like a classic Midwestern eatery. I went with my wife and a group of friends, one of whom is originally from Detroit and was craving an "Iowa Porker" (a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich). He and I both ordered it, and it was excellent--perfectly breaded and served on a bun with lettuce, onion, tomato, and mayo. Absolutely delicious. The restaurant was clean, the staff was exceptional, and drink refills were constant without ever having to ask. My wife ordered the chef's salad, which was fine but not outstanding. My friend's wife ordered a burger and fries, and that was spot‑on: thick, juicy beef on a deli bun with a full garden of toppings. The fries were crispy, not greasy, and definitely noteworthy. We will absolutely be going back. They also serve walleye for their fish fry, the menu is substantial, and they offer specials for all holidays. read more

I went to JiMichael's the other day. I was not in the mood to cook. I brought my son and brother in law. It was my second time there. The interior is a throwback to grandma's house, cozy yet surprisingly large inside. There are small knickknacks in areas all over, most with sayings on them, and cutesy yard decorations for sale up front. Remember, this is Sun City we are talking about, so we wouldn't expect much else. We were seated immediately. There were several diners in the place yet it still read somewhat empty. The menu is large, with lots of options, all day breakfast as well, and several specials, including fried walleye. That did it for me- I'm from northern Illinois and there are very few places out here serving walleye, my favorite fish besides halibut. My son got the payment and brother in law got the polish kielbasa with the sauerkraut on the side because he doesn't like it and Mike and I would eat it. Service was prompt and very attentive throughout the meal. Dinners come with soup or salad, potatoes or veggies. I chose one of the soups of the day: cabbage tomato. It was pretty tasty. Their cup size is almost a bowl in other restaurants. My son got the split pea and he was happy with his as well. Our entrées arrived. Mike's patty melt was huge. Ron's kielbasa was ok. Not a giant portion of the sausage but he also got mashed potatoes and the sauerkraut came in a salad dish. He loved the sausage. There were four giant sized pieces of fish on my plate, golden brown, and a good-sized portion of French fries. Plus tartar sauce. One bite of the fish and I was instantly transported back to family vacations in northern Wisconsin when I was a kid. The fish was amazing -- moist, flakey, perfectly fried. The coating was not thick- it let the fish shine through. At 72, I don't usually eat much at dinner anymore but I downed every bite of the fish, most of the fries, and a couple of spoonfuls of the sauerkraut. It would be great if they had an all you can eat walleye day there. But I think they would go broke because I would be there each time, lol. The tartar sauce didn't seem homemade - it was a little sweet for my taste but it went well with the fish. I'm a fan of malt vinegar on fish but didn't ask for it. Did I tell you fish was so freaking good? With our bellies quite full, we got desserts to go - my son got carrot cake, I got the chocolate cake, and Ron got cheesecake. I've had their carrot cake before and it's really good. Ron liked the cheesecake. The chocolate cake was just meh. It was dry with an odd aftertaste. Hardly any frosting. I expected better at a place that looked like most things are homemade. I'll definitely go back for the walleye there. They also had catfish on the menu - maybe I'll try that if the walleye is not on next time. With tip, the four of us ate for a little over $88.00. It wasn't cheap but it was not like getting dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant in the city (even though I'd nominate that chef for the catfish, lol). read more

The Fried Walleye special on Fridays is excellent. It is a very mild fish and it is cooked perfectly. It comes with soup or salad, vegetables or Cole slaw, and choice of potato (mashed, baked, or fries). The salad is large and very fresh. I chose the baked potato and green beans. I didn't even eat the green beans because I had so much food. Another person in my group had the Taco Salad, which was large. She enjoyed it and was not able to finish it. Another thing I like about this diner is that they serve breakfast all day. The pancake combo is my favorite. The service is always great, as well. read more

JiMichael's is a pretty classic diner. Upon entering, the place is spacious, clean and nicely decorated with a Valentines Day touch. We were seated quickly and treated courteously. The crowd were mostly seniors, which is pretty typical of diners in this area. To me, this meant that the prices are reasonable and the food, pretty good. JiMichael's has what I love the most in a diner; a huge menu. There is something for every appetite and mood. Today, I decided to have the grilled Liver & Onions and my wife had the fried shrimp. The Liver & Onions were pretty good and the shrimp weren't bad either. The green beans were okay and my two favorites were the fresh salad and really crunchy fries. The thousand island dressing was really thick. I would have preferred something a little easier to spread. Yeah, I'd eat here again. And try something different, because everything on the menu looks delish! read more

It's never a good sign when we walked in and were told there's only water and ice tea. When my wife went to use the bathroom there was no running water to flush or wash her hands. We used to eat here for breakfast or lunch at least once per week. The food along with the service is okay. My beverage of choice is Diet Coke but JiMichaels has switched from Diet Coke to Coke Zero. I was told that it tastes more like Coke hence the switch to Coke Zero. Personally, I don't care for Coke Zero's taste or the creamy feeling it leaves on the roof of my mouth. I'm admittedly fussy about my diet cola. I avoid restaurants that sell Pepsi products and now Coke Zero so I won't be going back to JiMichael's. read more

We like going on Friday night for the fish. I like walleye and theirs is decent but not great. The Mrs. likes the Cod which I may try next time. The Cole slaw has a nice taste and I like the well done French fries. The best time to go is after 6pm as the older people eat earlier and it can get crowded. This is exactly what a diner should be. Comfort food all up and down the menu. I've had the turkey dinner, the meatloaf dinner and the fried chicken dinner. Food was ok, pretty much what you expect. We have been here a couple of times. Service was mediocre at best. But the part about the service that upset me was after I chased down our waitress to ask about desert, which I ordered, she brought it out and put it between all our dirty dishes! Leaving us no room to even get to it. When I paid I added 10% tip, to which i explained to the girl I typically tip very well, but felt that mediocre service deserved a mediocre tip. Went here on a Saturday morning since I was having car work done nearby. The staff is friendly. We were greeted right as we walked in. Sat immediately. We had breakfast and it tasted good. I ordered french toast with a side of sausage patties. My friend had an omelette and enjoyed it. They were on top of our iced tea and coffee refills. The busser even asked if I wanted a to-go cup of tea since it was already hot outside. The temperature of the place and the food was good. There are a few shelves up front with knick knacks for sale. The only missing star was that the seating/tables were a little outdated and could use a sprucing of sorts. I still would come back here to eat, though. Well it's been couple days and all I can say about this place was it was kinda nice inside but if you expect anyone to be nice after you were served food (which she was not nice & bad at it! You can't be in service if you won't be nice to customers that upset you -learn or find something else, that makes you happy, geeze!) that is like all boxed/powdered food and then it's just reheated or poured out of a frozen bag (which we watched the cook (if that's what he thinks) pour the food out! Not $18.00 worth of that nasty food! Now before I even thought about saying anything about this gross place- it was the replacement order that set it straight for me! Had the Tuna on Rye & the Chicken Melt on Rye. So so sooooo good. I wanted to try everything. The food is great and the staff is amazing and super friendly. I would recommend 100%! A homemade hybrid. I expected real homemade diner food and some of it is and it's great, but often it's just the reheated stuff you get in restaurant chains without a cook. They should exploit their strengths. Their walleye was excellent. The fried chicken was tasty but over-fried. If you don't know to ask for a dinner roll, you won't be offered one. The mashed potatoes reminded me of the potato flake instants from school cafeteria lines, but the fries were good. Cole slaw tasty but if the veggies were fresh, they were cooked to make them taste like overdone frozen. Why disposables for the tartar sauce? We need to reduce single use plastics. My hubby and I had to visit a friend in the hospital to and decided to stop by here and give it a try, obviously since it is close to the hospital lots of patients family come here. It is a cute restaurant and was clean. It is a mix of American, Greek with some Italian foods. We decided to get breakfast since it was late morning. I opted for the western skillet with sourdough toast and my hubby got the special of scrambled eggs with diced ham and a pancake. My breakfast was good but could not eat very much and my hubby's breakfast the eggs were great but the pancake was a little tough to eat. Usually the best place to eat. Broccoli soup had huge pieces of Broccoli, saw another customer also struggling to cut it. Salad pieces not at all consistent. Cucumbers cut extremely large. Way too thick. Cut them thinner and put them on! Also no onion means no onion, on a gyro salad. Why is all the lettuce wet in the salad? WTF?! Listen to what is being ordered Everything else was good. Whomever prepared this did not know what they were doing or simply did not care. Will not be back for awhile again. Get your act together. Hot fried fish in Styrofoam was not a good idea, and some of the lettuce had brown spots. And we were missing a cole slaw. The lady that took my order, Spring, was very nice. For those of you reading this, know we are not complainers. But, I'm unhappy enough to publish a negative review. Tonight, the ribs were especially horrible. When we alerted the restaurant, we were offered 10% off the ribs ($1.40) and they finally threw in a piece of pie. And, upon this remedy, they made sure that we weren't scamming them and made sure we weren't taking the ribs home as leftovers. Yikes! read more
