We moved into a new home recently with a pellet stove, which we were totally unfamiliar with. I called John to inspect and clean our chimney and make sure the stove was functioning properly. When he arrived, he checked the chimney and said it was fine and didn't need cleaning. He also checked our boiler flu and showed me it needed vaccuuming, which he did. John is a very honest guy. I called him for cleaning the chimney which he could have easily come and done but he found a bigger issue. He was upfront in saying cleaning is not required and there is downdraft that needs to be fixed by raising chimney height. He quoted his price, which was reasonable and when he finished the work he charged me less as he did not end up using some material that he did not end up using. I could have been very easily duped into paying for that amount but he turned out to be honest and good contractor. If you can handle long conversations then he is all worth a try. read more

Royal Chimney and Gutter Service/ John Lindsay never showed up. After scheduling the date days in advance, I ended up waiting at home all day for John to show up. He was supposed to show up first thing Monday morning. I spoke with him that morning and he told he had a hold up and was planning on coming between 11-2. I cancelled all my plans and stayed home to wait for John. It was not until 4pm and after repeated phone calls and texts, John let me know via text "not today". When I told him that I was disappointed and to cancel the service, he smugly replied via text, "oh well." Price was on par with any average gutter cleaning even after we waited two years and knew we had a lot of backup in there. He came over and said he didn't think it needed cleaning. I said well it's been a few years so I'll pay to have it cleaned anyway. He said he didn't have time now. John Lindsay (Royal Chimney and Gutter) took on a difficult chimney repair at my home requiring replacement of the terracotta flu and cement crown on a 20 year old masonry chimney which was leaking. Compared to half a dozen other bids from nearby chimney repairmen and masons, John did the job for half the price, came the next day and completed the task without damage to the surrounding stone at the top of the chimney, and even waterproofed the entire chimney. He also water-proofed two other masonry chimneys with 'ChimneySaver' as well as replaced the rusted chase and collar on another masonry chimney, all for much less than the price quoted by the other companies who wanted double (and in one case triple) the price John gave me. He is reliable, courteous, and efficient. In addition, he washed out a blocked gutter for me at no extra charge. Such kindness and service is seldom encountered in this fast-paced and impersonal world.
