Any affiliates of DeWitt (Dim Witt) Movers is horrible. They delivered our furnishings to our home and destroyed our beautiful hardwood floors. They sent out TEMP LABORERS they were paying 18.00 an hour to deliver our goods. I filled out a claim form that the driver provided and told us they would repair the damage to our brand new floors. We never heard anything from them, and when I called 2 months later to discuss it they had no record of a damage report. It trickles from the top down in their organization and they charged us 1500.00 extra for the delivery saying our driveway was inaccessible. If they hired competent help that could navigate a truck it wouldn't be an issue as we have had many many subsequent deliveries of furniture and applicances of trucks of equal or larger size. BUYER BEWARE. They are awful. read more

On Friday November 8th, I called and left a message on their answering machine. I needed help with unloading/loading my two PODS that had just arrived that morning into the POD Storage Yard in Hilo. (with no notification from PODS.) I was in a panic trying to find a Kona Mover to speak with.So, no call back for 4 days from this company. Then, I picked up the call on Tuesday, and this woman asked me : " Had I had found a solution for my two PODS? " I said: " Yes, I think that...." and she CUT ME OFF in a very snotty voice and said: " Well that is good, because we are all booked up until the end of the year. " Mind you, that is SEVEN weeks she is booked up. "O.K.".... So I hung up. Ummm...If I treated my customers like that, I would have NO business. First of all, she could have referred me to one of her trusted competitors, knowing I was in a big jam. Second, drop the snotty voice, and show a little ALOHA like most Hilo businesses do. read more

I'd been hoping to add a star as at least some folks at the company seemed seriously apologetic when hearing of my difficulties and made at least some efforts to resolve the issues, which are ongoing. Alas, there's a new chapter and it's mostly not good. My car arrived at the port yesterday and was available for pickup today. The good news is that it was on time and intact. The bad news is that they hadn't relayed my name to Matson, the shipping company at the port handling the cargo, so they couldn't release the car to me until they got confirmation from the movers that it was really supposed to be given to me. That resulted in about 20 minutes worth of frantic phone calls and annoyance. Still, I finally had my car. Unfortunately, my car is now deeply infused with the aroma of someone's stale cigarette smoke. WTF??? No one has EVER smoked in this or any car I've owned, but the smell of stale cigarette smoke is imprinted in my memory from spending my childhood with parents who smoked like chimneys. This just feels like the final insult. What a horrible, horrible company. One last note that may be of use. When you book a move from the San Francisco Bay Area to Hawaii via Royal Hawaiian, you actually end up actually dealing with THREE separate entities: DeWitt, Ace Relocation, and Royal Hawaiian Movers. Whether they are actually branches of the same company or separate entities with some sort of business arrangement, I do not know. What I do know is that the result is that the left hand often has no clue what the right hand is doing, compounding the difficulties in getting anything resolved. Just a quick update: we asked the movers Hilo side to leave some boxes that we wanted to unpack. They said they'd come back and pick up all the cardboard and packing materials if we wished. When my husband called, they set a date that worked for us, arrived on time and quickly and efficiently removed everything. When we got estimates, Royal Hawaiian may not have been the cheapest, but you really do get what you pay for. I've never had a more pleasant moving experience. read more

I moved from the Oregon coast to Pahoa. The house in Pahoa is on a cliff overlooking the Ocean with three stories and 22 steps from top to pool deck. I had very heavy solid wooden furniture some weighing over 300 pounds. The inside stairs were to narrow for the bigger pieces and the outside stairs down the hillside on either side of the house were treacherous. When they saw the challenge they called for reinforcements and before long I had 5 stout men and women on my moving team. They were great to work with and were both smart and kind. I am 78 years old and not much help but they did everything with dedication and great care. I had no damage or loss at all. I have never had such a successful move. It was a pleasure working with these people and we even had a few laughs. The office coordinator Liane was great with all the paperwork and was quick to respond to requests from the moving staff and myself. I hope I never have to move from Hawaii but if I do I know I will be using Royal Hawaiian Movers of Keaau! read more

These movers are great! I have two harps that need to move from Hawaii Island to Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. The logistics of all that are pretty complicated. The airlines would not take my larger harp, as I am not a known shipper. So I contacted Royal Hawaiian. They have a wonderful staff. Everything from the original survey to the packing was done efficiently, professionally, and with aloha. It will take 4-6 weeks for my harps to get to Alaska, but I have peace of mind with the way things were handled on the Hawaii end, with Royal Hawaiian. Update: My harps and our tools arrived at our home with lots of aloha messages on the boxes. The whole process done in about a month. Harps are very delicate instruments. Temperature and humidity changes really bother them. My harps arrived here in Alaska without even a broken string. All other stuff that was packed was in great shape too. I cannot thank Royal Hawaiian enough! They did what I thought was almost impossible! LOVE this company! read more

This time my move took me to the mainland with all my harps and delicate musical instruments. Once again, Royal Hawaiian packed my belongings for oversea and overland travel. When I opened the crates, I was impressed with the care they had taken. Strangely, there was no accompanying paperwork when my boxes arrived, and Liane and the crew was there to help me communicate with the local movers. They did a two day pack up and made it very stress free for my elderly parents who are highly anxious about people touching their antiques. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. We moved here from Mount Rainier, MD and our packers in Maryland really left us with a sour taste in our mouth. We were naturally concerned about the delivery end here in Pahoa. From the first contact, the phone call to arrange delivery to the delivery itself, Royal Hawaiian could not have been more friendly or more accommodating. When our schedule did not allow a planned two day delivery, our contact at Royal Hawaiian checked with her manager and arranged for 5 people to be assigned to get the unpacking done in one day. The crew we had was so friendly and helpful. Who hugs their movers when they are done and ready to leave. From placing furniture where WE wanted it to piling boxes in the garage for us to go through at our leisure, every request was met with a smile and 'an of course we can do that.' For anyone moving from the mainland, we would recommend having Royal Hawaiian be part of your delivery team at this end of your journey. read more

Contracted to move furniture from Hilo to the mainland; very impressed all the way through from getting the quote to making the arrangements for packing/pickup, and shipping & delivery. A lot of paperwork to fill out...to be expected to make sure everything is in order, but Liane was very helpful to assist with completing the forms. They were able to accommodate the requested pickup day/time and the crew was very efficient in packing things up with care. Shipping/delivery actually went quicker than expected, and the delivery crew brought everything in, unpacked, inspected (no damage...even a fragile glass table top came through unscathed), and hauled away the packing material. Pricing was very fair and courteous communication helped everything go smoothly. Moving companies can be sketchy but I would rate RHM an A+ for customer service, execution, and trustworthiness. I can't say enough good things about the wonderful staff at Royal Hawaiian Movers. We purchased packing supplies from this business and the entire office staff was very friendly and helpful. We were escorted to the warehouse to view the supplies before purchasing and were impressed by the organization and quality of the professional packing materials. The amount and quality of the materials you receive for the price is a much better deal than the other "self-move" businesses in Hilo. Royal Hawaiian also handles freight deliveries and pickups for Honolulu businesses so we had been in before to pick up items we had ordered and had the same positive experience. Professional, competent and courteous. All what I was hoping for in a big, over the water move, from my home in Kamuela to the mainland in late 2011. My estimator was very helpful, and my moving team, terrific. When I discovered that a glass on a picture had broken, as well as a ceramic lamp, (things get shaken up at sea on any move), their wonderful main office in Honolulu sent me a check to cover the fixes, even though those items I chose not to insurance.
