Reviews during the pandemic are so strange, aren't they? It's difficult to really dig in and give a review of a restaurant when they are operating in an unusual manner. So, my reviews now include extra stars for any establishment that practices social distancing, wears masks, or provides hand sanitizer. I think Royal India does a great job of that. So..5 stars for having awesome food AND making me comfortable. I'm just starting to venture out into the world of dining again and Royal India made me feel safe. Let's start with the server -friendly, wearing a mask PROPERLY, did not adjust his mask or talk too much. He stopped by our table a few times to make sure we had water and were enjoying our meal but he did not linger and did not make me feel the need to recoil because he was tooooooooo close (yes, I've had that experience recently) The environment. -tables spaced far apart, booths are available too, but they are seating with distance between them. Tables have a glass top over the table cloth which makes it easy to clean and sanitize. Everything was spotless at our table. The food...YUM! We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, garlic naan, aloo gobi and veggie samosas. The samosas were so good...crispy, flaky crust and a tasty potato and green pea filling ...I dove into these and enjoyed them so much that I completely forgot to take pictures of any of the food! (facepalm) The chicken tikka masala was tangy, creamy, and offered a lovely little kick of heat. I highly recommend giving it a try if you haven't already. Good portion size too! Garlic naan - It was warm and soft and garlicy and sopped up every little bit of the tikka masala left on my plate. (Warm fuzzies thinking back on it) Aloo gobi - least favorite part of the meal and it was still good. Too many onions, that's my only complaint. The dish didn't need it. The cauliflower was tender, but still firm enough to give a good bite, the seasoning was spot on...but those onions, gah, they changed the flavor. I set them aside and gobbled up the rest. From the pictures on yelp I see that Royal India usually offers a lunch buffet. I'm excited to try that once it's safe to share a lunch line with others again. Thanks for dinner Royal India. Royal India is now my favorite Indian Restaurant in the Reno-Sparks area. While there are other Indian Restaurants in the Reno-Sparks area with good food, they lack good customer service skills. The servers at Royal India were prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. They really made the effort to provide good service and seemed keen on making certain that we enjoyed our experience in the restaurant. My friend and I spilt several types of Naan Bread - a potato one (I wasn't totally crazy about, but my friend liked) and a very good Cheese Naan. Light, fluffy warm Naan interlaced with gooey cheese - just can't beat it! My favorite sauce was their Cilantro Chutney - it was very different from normal sauces served at Indian Restaurants, but so light and refreshing with a little zig of spicy flavors. I ordered the Chickpea and Potato Curry (Extra Spicy of course) and a Mango Mojito. The Mango Mojito was a basic Mango Mojito, nothing spectacularly unique, but nothing awry - light, refreshing, tasty, sweet mixed drink. I'd order it again. The Chickpea and Potato Curry on the other hand was amazing! I always get annoyed when I order 'super spicy' and get a bland dish because the restaurant was too timid to listen to me - it is always insulting and always a disappointment. The resulting dish had that warming spiciness that increased in heat with each bite and made your whole throat bask in the heat of spicy goodness! Oh yeah! Let it burn! Let it burn! The potatoes in the dish had been cooked perfectly and the chickpea ratio was generous. I would order this dish again in a heartbeat. Their complimentary rice was super light and fluffy. Other details: Their prices were fair. The restaurant decor was nice and it was clean. I was visiting a girl friend in Reno and we grabbed takeout. The mixed plate was delicious! The amount of naan we got for what we ordered didn't seem quite right but all of the food was tasty. I imagine their buffet when it can open again would be amazing and move me to 5 stars. The food was ready pretty quickly and was reasonably priced. The Chicken curry and the chicken tikka masala seemed so similar it was hard to taste a difference which seems weird to me but they were tasty. I didn't realize some of it came with rice so that was a fun surprise. I will definitely be eating here again when I come back to Reno. Coming from Union City we have a HUGE Indian population so it is hard to compare to the Indian restaurants here but it was really tasty! read more

Go to their buffet! You won't regret it! Food: A The buffet (11a-3p 7 days a week) is delicious and priced so fairly: $8! Truly one of the best deals in town. The food is delicious and diverse. They offer a fair amount of food for the buffet, plus the naan (choose between garlic or regular) is made to order. The buffet has manly the popular dishes- curries, chicken tandori, fried vegetables, etc. Everything I tried here was fantastic! I especially loved their chicken tandori! It was so moist and flavorful. They also have a little salad bar that has chutney, custard, mango ice cream, and other things. Definitely try the mango ice cream! Atmosphere: B I came here with my mother on a Sunday a little after 2p. The buffet was somewhat poorly stocked - very little rice, melted ice cream, no more custard - but I attribute that to the time we went. However, there was still plenty of time left for the buffet deal so I think everything should have still been stocked, at least halfway full. The wait staff was very nice. My mother and I sat in a booth, which was comfortable. They had Bollywood music in the background that was not too loud, which is good. Parking was easy; it is much easier to park here than at Indian Kebab & Curry due to their location (ie not downtown). My now-wife and three kids and I were on one of our annual family holiday-adventures. We were driving back to Oregon from Arizona, and our journey back home took us through Reno. After stopping for gas nearby, we were Googling some good spots tah rustle up some grub. We found this little "oasis of a lifesaver", and had the lunch buffet. 1.) The staff was EXTREMELY friendly AND courteous, 2.) The food was, bar none, EXCELLENT, 3.) The exterior exuded an air of "open arms", as though reuniting with a long lost friend, 4.) The interior was clean and spotless, as if silently saying, "welcome back, come in and make yourselves @ home"!!! And NOW...a warning!!! BEWARE the red pepper sauce adjacent to the other sauces (mint, plum, etc.)!!! The food is good as presented, but if you DO try the red pepper sauce, do so at your OWN risk (laughing). Other than that... My family and I STRONGLY recommend this little joint...!!! read more

Went here last night and am absolutely delighted to have found such a wonderful Indian restaurant in Reno. We are used to Boston, MA where they have great Indian food with impeccable service and Royal India definitely delivered. We went to every other Indian restaurant in the past year we've lived here and they were ok, but not outstanding. ROYAL INDIA IS OUTSTANDING. The food is delicious with the most flavor I've ever tasted in Indian Food. We shared garlic naan, saag paneer, chicken tikka masala and samosa chat. Each dish was a good sized portion and filled with flavor. Looking forward to doing the lunch buffet soon so I can try a lot more they have to offer. This review is for my amazing delivery experience, and I'm excited to visit the actual location soon. Recently I have been working a lot, so I haven't felt like cooking as much as I used to. One night I came home and thought hmmm, I should treat myself, but I don't feel like going out! After perusing Uber Eats, I was shocked by the cost of delivery fees for some of the places I was interested in, but I noticed delivery options through Yelp and decided to try it out. A $2 delivery fee seemed reasonable, and Yelp made it easy to place my order. My food showed up on time and hot, with paper plates and utensils, which was a nice touch. I ordered the saag paneer, chicken shahi korma, and chicken seekh kabob. The kabob was fresh and loaded with flavor, spicy just how I ordered it. I didn't even order the spiciest level and was impressed at the kick! The chicken shahi korma was good, but the star of the show was the saag paneer. Although I am a big meat eater, I could eat solely that for days and be happy. Delicious Indian cheese sits in a thick, creamy spinach sauce that is highly addictive! My order also came with two containers loaded with perfectly cooked rice that was tasty on its own. I received a complimentary order of what I think is lentil soup? Whatever it was, it was creamy and delicious! I've heard great things about the lunch buffet from others, so I'll have to find some time to make it over one of these days. The daily lunch buffet price went up $1.00 $8.99 to $9.99 nothing wrong with that but wish I was informed about it when doing lunch buffet since I come in once a week. Thought I was being ripped off because I usually pay $8.99. Food is still amazing and I will continue to stop by for lunch here and there. My boyfriend and I always crave Indian food, but never have we indulged in a proper Indian lunch buffet until now. It's the highlight of my work week, and yes, we come here at least once a week because it's that good. You can't beat the price, there's virtually no wait, the food is always fresh and the restaurant is always clean. Service is quick and comforting, they offer you plain or garlic naan as soon as you're seated. Despite living nowhere near this place, I would happily go out of my way to have lunch here any day. Everything is delicious, but my favorites are the saag (it's different each time, but try it with the mushroom if available), any of their curries (chicken, lamb, beef), the pakora, and the onion chutney (it seriously enhances anything you put it on). We have been exploring all of our delivery options during this quarantine. We have also been expanding our flavor pallets. Royal India did not disappoint. Let me state for the record I have a heat challenge 14 year old so when ever we travel our side of our norm, I get a little worried. We ordered butter chicken and chicken masala with the lowest spice level they offer. And it was perfect for him! The serving sizes are huge, it fed the 3 of us a full meal and I had leftovers for lunch the next day. I did add a side of rice, you can never have enough if you ask me. Garlic naan was not the best I have had. But it is bread, to wow me it had to be amazing. Royal Indian has been approved my our family and both of my boys have already requested it again! Oh yeah! Really good Indian Food is here in Reno! We were 4 peeps and shared everything. Our friends are vegetarian and we ordered all vegetarian dishes, however there is plenty for both vegetarians and non vegetarians. We had Sag Paneer, Eggplant, chickpeas in curry, Dal Machni, assorted veggies in gravy, Raita, garlic naan, and potato stuffed bread, along with basmati rice. Everything was really good. They brought out pompodum with some condiments ti snack on while waiting for dinner. The onion chutney was very much like what we would get back in Edison Nj (Little India). Well five stars hardly feel like enough credit to Royal India's food quality and customer service, but it gets the point across! This is has been my go-to for a few years now. The samosas are a great portion, you get two per order and they are packed full. Chicken tikka masala and the Lamb or chicken vindaloo have been my repeated order and they're always delicious. You can pick your own spice level - beware anything beyond level 4 unless you're one of those who likes to test your limits....rice is always delicious. Best Indian buffet in Reno since Chutney. Nice variety, fresh, good quality ingredients and cooked properly except that I would like it spicier. Maybe they keep it mild for the gringos. In addition to white rice they had chicken biryani that was tasty. I like that they have both vegetables and meat versions of some dishes, although the cauliflower pakora was one of the tastiest dishes. Especially fresh and tasty cauliflower that wasn't overcooked. Also one of the best buffet tandoori chicken I have had. Too many places it seems like it is pigeon and not chicken. It is Northern India cuisine. Service was friendly. Eventually I will try the food off the menu, but the buffet is a strong attraction. Every time it has been stewed to perfection and we add a new side on each time and have yet to be disappointed. We also get the red curry and freshly made naan every time. I've never had Indian food before and have been talking about trying it for months now. My boyfriend, daughter and I stopped by today around 5pm for dinner. I am amazed by the ambiance of this restaurant! This is a fairly new local Indian restaurant in town, and it is quite impressive! The outside may look small, but the inside is huge! There are two large sections and a bar in the middle. I believe the two main dining areas are separated by lunch buffet and dinner. I went in for the lunch special, an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for around $9. I believe this is between 11am-3pm on weekdays. They had a special where for one lunch buffet you get a free soda also! I liked the options that they had for the buffet, especially the dessert (they had mango ice cream! Can't find that anywhere else). The servers were very kind and I got refills very quickly. Their food tasted very good, however the only thing that was off was the chicken tikka masala. I have tried every Indian restaurant in town, and everyone makes their chicken tikka masala with chunks of chicken. Theirs was different because they used thin slices of chicken and it did not taste like the tikka masala from other places. I am not sure why they used thin slices of chicken for this dish, because their other dishes all use chicken chunks. Tikka masala can be argued to be the most popular dish, but this did not live up to my expectations. Everything else did make up for this. Royal India is home to the tastiest Indian food in Reno! To me, it feels like I am walking into someone's kitchen when I arrive. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and the service is awesome. As soon as we sit down someone is there to greet us. I love that! I typically will go with one or two others for their lunch buffet. What I love about the lunch buffet is that they are always switching out the dishes, but they also always have the same top picks for returning customers. They have the thali trays so you can try many different types of curries and sauces. The food at the buffet has been fresh and hot every time I have come in, and I have arrived at varying times of the day. My favorite dish they have at the buffet is the Chicken tiki masala. It is so flavorful, creamy, and the chicken is moist. The naan is served fresh and the chai tea is a perfect cap for a delicious meal. Thank you, Royal India! The place was amazing! I went for dinner with a friend, and I loved it. There's quite a variety of foods available, as in I never knew how many possible types of naan there was! I ended up with the dinner set and that was such a good choice. It was a huge serving of food, with rice, naan, and good portions of daal, lamb curry, and paneer. It also came with desert which was the honey soaked dough balls! So so good!! I took the leftovers home and still delicious the days after. The price was on point for the food. The service is also incredible, with they coming by to check quite often. The place is really pretty and elegant too. I've been told to go here for a year now. Finally found myself in the area and went in for take out food I went through Yelp reviews and read about all of the yummy dishes. I ended up ordering the butter chicken and lamb and shrimp curry which I would have never gone for but there was a really good review on it so I said what the heck. I'm glad I did, it was the best Indian food dish I have ever had. The butter chicken was amazing to and they give you a large to go container of rice filled to the brim. This is, by far, our Indian food go to. Its broad menu makes it an easy fit for sharing and discovering new (to us) dishes. Each time we go we try something new,, but it's hard not to go back to our old favorites--vegetable samosas, paneer masala, aloo tikki chat, tandoori chicken, garlic naan--so our orders are getting longer and longer. One of the better places in Reno for Indian food. The price for lunch buffet is ~$10, which is big steal. They have about 16 different dishes which includes my favorite puri, tandoori, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan. The tikka masala is creamy and flavorful and great to eat alongside naan and puri. In addition, compared to other Indian buffets in Reno, they have the best puri and naan as it is never burnt or overly dry. The tandoori is also moist and savory as it has the right amount of spices and charred perfectly. For dessert they have homemade mango ice cream which is included in the buffet! read more
