First timer at the Royal India and only the second time in my life trying Indian food. Combined with a pretty picky taste pallet and I was nervous to say the least. After a great evening with friends I have to give high praise to Royal India. The staff were spot on with recommendations. We had the chicken tandoori and the chicken tikka masala with naan and tried the imported Indian beer to complete the ensemble. Flavor was amazing and spice was just right and not too hot to handle. Definitely needs to get back here for more tastes of this awesome authentic cuisine! read more

We took a chance on a new place (I'm not an adventurous eater)... And we are SOOO HAPPY we did! The service was exceptional! The ambiance was enjoyable... And the food... This place has better ratings than Bombay House, Tandoor and India House but the flavors are quite bland. The naan was also a bit soggy. The appetizer plate was pretty unappetizing as all the deep fried food was not very fresh and too heavily breaded. The chutneys were also very bland with almost no flavor. The mango juice was good though... Both Bombay House, Tandoor and India House have much more complex spicing going on which I prefer. Also fresher naan and appetizers plus much more lively appearance and taste in their curries. People there are nice and attentive though. read more

Sadly, much like Bombay House, this is another Indian restaurant that is catering to the non-Indian palate. Americanized flavors, sweet when it shouldn't be. Not authentic, but great for the masses. I went here for the first time over a year ago with friends from out of town and was sadly disappointed. That's what I get for trying a new place with guests. But in my defense, Zaika was closed, sadly, my favorite all time Indian/Pakistani restaurant. I miss them so much! read more

This Indian restaurant is my favorite. They use chicken thighs and cook them until they are super tender. The flavors of their curries are incredible. The basmati rice is delicious. I have never been disappointed with this place and I've eaten here probably 10 times by now. The only negative is they aren't open Monday. read more

Based on a recommendation from an Elite Yelper, we came to eat dinner. My wife isn't a spicy food eater and ordered the butter chicken which was perfectly cooked, seasoned, and mild enough for her. For me - I had medium spice with the chicken tikka, that came out on a sizzling platter. Easily the favorite dish. We definitely will be back for delicious food in a clean environment. read more

This restaurant has made me fall in love with Indian food. My only complaint is that I wish they were open for lunch too, but luckily everything comes in big portions and reheats well, so I just save my leftovers for lunch. :) My husband was reluctant to try Indian food but really likes the Mango Chicken (fusion dish) and really liked the bite he tried of my Daal Maharani. I think my favorite dish so far has to be the Lamb Saag, which is has such amazingly developed and rich flavors. But every time I order, I'm torn because I loved the last thing I had but want to try something new as well. I also love how well spiced everything is - I like spicy food and you can order everything good and spicy but still taste the complex flavors in each dish, not just heat. Absolutely delicious! I love Indian food in general and this place definitely delivers. Not only was the food naturally gluten free and delicious, but the ambiance was glorious. The servers were friendly and the management made sure we had enough rice. I tend to eat three times as much rice as others. My only recommendation to others would be to go for medium or hot on the spice. My wife got mild and it seemed slightly lacking in authenticity. read more

Excellent food, excellent service, but overpriced with small portions. Indian food should never be expensive. I would go here a lot more frequently if the portions were bigger or prices were lower. One point and time this was my favorite Indian place being new to the area. The butter naan was off the chain and it was just delicious, over the months it has gone down. Just a couple days ago me and my boyfriend went to have dinner here, the wait to be seated in an almost ghost town restaurant was longer then expected, the wait for a drink order was an additional 20 minutes then the food ordering process was also an additional wait, with all the waiting That was going on I thought maybe they were waiting on some seasoning to be shipped directly from India or, and I say this with complete sarcasm additional staff, whichever comes first. The Chicken tikka was more sauce then chicken but it was still good, the butter naan was disappointing, being when we usually order it, its-our favorite. Usually it's nice soft and buttery this time it was on the dry side, a little more cooked and it looked like it was just sitting....Which indicates maybe they ran out of butter and the reason everything took so long was because they were getting fresh butter from the cows that were being shipped from India which explains the longer then usual wait times and makes things so clear. Either way , they have a lot of room for improvement and I need to give up in hoping they will restore my faith in them being a top Indian place especially for one that gives such a great mom and pops meets authentic Indian feel. ‍‍ Hope they find what they once had. read more

Outstanding Indian cuisine. We were lured there after watching the movie, "The Hundred Foot Journey." We decided on Indian food, and had read the helpful reviews on this place. We went at 4:30PM on a Saturday, were the first ones in the door when they opened, and when we left an hour later, there was a waiting list. The owner came out to see everyone and to make sure we were happy with the good and service. This is authentic Indian cuisine at its best. When we get a craving for Indian food we have only one place come to mind and it is Royal India on 13th East. Chicken tika masala is to die for as is the coconut curry and the butter chicken. The rice is always light and flavorful and a family favorite. The garlic naan is perfectly cooked and flavored perfectly. Love this place and highly recommend it. read more

Ordered: Chicken Pakora (my wife's fav out of the order) Samosa (forgettable, needs an accompaniment of cholay) Lamb Boti Kabab (well seasoned, could use less extras) Onion naan (a little thick and not chewy enough for my liking) Chicken naan (thanks to them for making an off menu item) While it wasn't bad it wasn't blow my socks off good either. That said, they had most of the standard fare and went out of their way to help with some cravings. Not sure what the price range means but relative to bay area this would be very expensive for what you get. I am still on withdrawals from living in Sunnyvale. read more

Fantastic Indian food. A family favorite for over 10 years. The staff are super friendly and the food is always perfect.

The restaurant was clean and had lots of tables available. It seems like you can't go wrong with any of their menu items. Would've gotten medium spicy Kurma and Masala because the mild was much too tame. read more
