4 stars Stayed here…read morefor 2 nights on a work trip. Overall, the stay was good; however, one night I found 2 bugs in the bathroom. The hotel seemed clean, but bugs that looked like roaches do not make someone feel comfortable. Positives - I was able to get an early check in. There is a water bottle filling machine on the first floor. The vending area (sodas and snacks) has very reasonable prices. The gentleman at the front desk, Dan, was the nicest hotel clerk I have ever encountered. Overall, the hotel was fairly clean. The towels and bathroom amenities were great quality. The WiFi worked great. See pic: Large (used) trash bag by elevator trash cans - the large bag is provided in room for ease of keeping the room clean and disposing of larger items. This is a great idea being the hotel is next to a sports facility. I can imagine this would help families clean up properly behind themselves! There was also a notice that they are upgrading the tvs to being "smart". While this didn't happen during my stay, it's a positive for future guests! Negatives - The bugs on my first night. The breakfast buffet was just meh. Although there is plenty to choose from, the first day the cheddar egg omelette was old and hard to cut through (breakfast at 7:30am), both days the yogurt was kept in a basket (dairy should be kept on ice), the waffle maker didn't cook all the way through (and no spray to help get the waffle out, so the outer part that was cooked stuck to the waffle maker), and by 7:30 on day 2 they were out of quite a bit of the fresh fruit (the only healthy option). The temperature in the room was hard to control - it doesn't let you select air or heat. 73 was cold air, 74 was like a full blown heater on blast.

Overall was a decent stay. Everyone was friendly and inviting. Room was clean and stocked. Only…read moreissue I had was the doors are extremely loud when someone just lets them slam closed. And the pup would bark like a fool when they did.

But each time it gets worse and worse. Bugs in the bed, bugs in the curtains. Rusty water dripping in most of the hallway ceilings and everytime you notify someone they pass the blame onto someone else and you end up still in the same spot. Will be reaching out to the GM and Corporate this time. This is getting ridiculous. Youd never know this is a national hotel chain. And the way the little guy at the front desk who claims to be a "supervisor" talks to people. He needs some customer service training. Wants to handle everything but has nothing but excuses and blames everyone else for everything. Claims he has no knowledge and is not responsible for anything any other employees do. So why do we need to talk to him?

There's a historical marker for it out back! Was also surprised that there were not any signs or directions leading to the reception rooms. Staff was busy checking people in so we weren't greeted, we just wandered until we found the room. Reception room kept doors LOCKED until the actual start time, making anyone who got there early having to wait in the hallway which had very limited seating. Nice outdoor area so reception guests could wander in and out, but lawn was loaded with goose poop and there were swarms of flying bugs everywhere (bugs not hotels fault, they were all along the waterfront). Food and drinks were good. Hotel seemed dated though. Not impressed that lawn wasn't cared for before the event considering all the goose poop.

I had a very bad experience at a Courtyard by Marriott location in Atlanta a few years ago that,…read morefairly or unfairly, tarnished the brand for me. I won't go into details here, but the manager awarded me 10,000 points as compensation. As I haven't had the inclination to stay a Courtyard since that experience, those points expired unused some time ago. On a recent trip to the Buffalo area, my search yielded a Courtyard location that was priced reasonably. I had driven past that hotel numerous times and observed that it looked relatively new and well maintained, and it was convenient. In the spirit of second chances, and on the assumption that my previous experience was unique to a single location, I made my six day reservation online. Check-in was quick and efficient, the staff was very friendly, and the room appeared to be impeccably clean. Good lighting throughout, a very capable showerhead with plenty of pressure, and water that was hotter than I've ever even dared to dream about! Yes, Atlanta was an aberration. Courtyard by Marriott is back on my list! Until day four. After three days of no maid service (despite having explicitly asked for it that morning), we turned down the second bed, only to find two dirty socks under the covers! It nearly triggered my gag reflex. So many questions rippled through my head. What else wasn't cleaned after the previous guest checked out of that room? How long have those socks been there? What sorts of bodily fluids have I been marinating in over the past three nights? What about the pillows? Were the towels just air dried and refolded? Is this a disgruntled employee or is it business as usual? We immediately packed our bags and loaded up the car. I stopped at the front desk to check out and told the clerk about the socks. She seemed genuinely apologetic, but I think she realized that offering to change rooms or to clean the room we were in was pointless. She refunded the unused nights and said she would talk to the manager when he arrived to see if they could award me some points that will definitely go unused. I'd strongly advise against this Courtyard location. I don't believe the brand is salvageable, at least in my mind. Frankly, I'm wondering if the entire Marriott brand is safe. Did I mention that there were ants in the bathroom?
