I've been coming here for over twenty years and never get tired of their fresh, hot and delicious dishes and they have a big menu with lots of pork, beef, seafood, chicken and veggie selections and the moo shu is awesome all nicely wrapped and ready to eat. This remains my favorite Chinese spot in the entire region. The special lunch comes with hot and sour soup, salad, spring roll, rice, sweet biscuit and entree for just $9.00. The food is always ftesh and hot and consistently tasty well actually delicious with the proper amount of spices and colors, always spot on. So this is a really great place to get your Chinese lunch on and of course they are great for a nice dinner as well. They have a full menu of really nice specialty dishes and you can get both wine and beer as well. The chef here is award winning for his noodle making and as a restaurant they've been voted best restaurant by several sources year after year. There is truly nothing not to like here, the location is great at Poplar & Forest Hill-Irene and the parking is plentiful from the front in the shopping center lot or lots more out back that you enter from the street behind, the seating is very comfortable and tasteful done with cloth napkins and tablecloths and nicely decorated with fountains and fish. I am torn between 4 and 5 stars here. The whole purpose of my coming here was to try Daniel's recommendation of the braised pork with rice. The one thing I wanted, they no longer cook and wouldn't make for me. The waitress said they were out of it, but when I pressed the issue, she said they don't do it anymore. They did have the shrimp rolls, and they really were incredible. I will be coming back for more. It is an appetizer that would be good for 2 or 3 people. There is a American-Chinese lunch menu, but I wanted something that would really wow me. Something I've never had before. I decided on the butterfly eggplant, and I could not have made a better decision. However, I told the waitress to make it as hot as they possibly could, then cover it with hot peppers, and then make it hotter. Even still, it was only mildly spicy, and there were no peppers. Ah, but it was delicious! I would recommend the butterfly eggplant to split among 2 or 3 people while you're eating something else. The way it was delivered was perfect for sharing. The presentation was exquisite. It was a large portion. I didn't eat much rice and I struggled to finish it and the shrimp rolls. The garlic sauce was great to eat with the rice. The pork and shrimp were plentiful. My only complaint here was the eggplant itself. There was actually very little eggplant in the mostly fluffy breading. It was delicious all the same and the breading tasted to me like a wonderful egg flavor. If I'm right, it contained more egg than eggplant. Even still, I searched the Internet for this dish and mine looked way better than anything I could find on the net and I'm sure tasted better too. read more

I'm going to write a review on this place just based on 4 dishes that they have here. I'm not going to review their American-Chinese items... cause that's not why you ask a Taiwanese man why he likes a certain Taiwanese-Chinese restaurant... 1. Shrimp Rolls 2. Braised Pork Rice 3. Boneless Flank Noodle Soup 4. Chicken with Basil So let's start with the appetizers... Shrimp rolls... Frigging awesome... next! Oh dear, the ridiculously unhealthy braised pork rice... Just so you know, braised pork is essentially bacon. If I name this bacon and rice, you can probably get the picture. The bacon is cut in a bites not in slices. They also top it with a braised egg! This is really authentic, and you would taste awesome in every bite. I just can't have it as often as I want! Why must you tempt me, Panda!!! The Boneless Flank Noodle Soup is done a very Taiwanese way. The owner being Taiwanese and all, I thank him for staying true! All I need extra is pickled vegetables and it'll be like I'm back in Taiwan! And the chicken with basil is also a traditional Taiwanese dish, but it's also a little bit on the greasy side, so I don't have it often as well. A major criticism I'll have for Royal Panda is I wish that they print out a new menu. Majority of the items on the authentic menu pages are discontinued due to a low number of people asking for them... so sad... There are a little bit more traditional vegetable dishes and American-Chinese dishes that other Chinese or Taiwanese folks would enjoy, but I'm just listing my 4 favorite comfort meal/dishes here. read more

My brother and his family live in Austin, I live in Portland, but we love to eat here when we visit our mother in Memphis. Our family has been coming here for years. While it isn't the most gourmet I've had, it's pretty good. We always enjoy the lunch specials, which include soup, eggroll, salad, rice, entree, a donut and a fortune cookie. In the past, I've had good versions of sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken and more. On a recent visit, we split a super tasty, crispy, yummy egg roll. For my entree, I had the moo shu chicken, a super tasty stir fry wrapped in thin pancakes served with a sweet and tart Hoisin sauce. This was the best version of moo shu I've ever had! Ended up drinking my daughter's water. We were the only people of color in this restaurant as we watched everyone else treated fairly. This is Germantown Chinese at it's Germantowniest. The "spicy" dishes come out distinctly unspicy unless requested "actually spicy". Everything is a little bit sweet, which is what I adore about their hot & sour soup! It rivals Formosa's for best sweet hot & sour soup in town. The decor is fancy for Chinese, and the service is good, but you should be ready to order in the window that they are ready to take your order. Prices are affordable, at under $20 per person. This is a good family night out spot, maybe a date spot for a quiet couple. A limited wine and beer list is available, as well as sake, hot teas, and sodas. Can't really go above three stars. I've eaten here for years now and while more expensive than most they do have decent lunches. We tried the braised beef soup and while it was ok with a pretty good broth we both said we wouldn't crave it or want to rush back for it. For some reason it came with pieces of lettuce in it instead of bok choy. The beef in it was pretty good but also had some pieces that had to be spit out as they were too tuff to chew. The waitress recommended the basil chicken and it was good but the chicken was chewy. Pretty good flavor but I wouldn't rush back for it. It was $32 for lunch and while it was ok there are other places is rather spend my money. Had some regular lunch specials today. They were ok. They hot and sour soup was pretty good. Not as good Formosa though. Egg roll was pretty well stuffed and was decent. Almond chicken is mild dish but isn't bad and I would try again. Solid three star lunch. Went here on a Monday night with two other people. They weren't really busy, maybe two other tables the whole time we were there, but service was not great. Everyone I was with got combination meals with fried rice so they gave us a plate with fried rice to split. Wasn't expecting that especially since they are $16-18 per meal depending on the protein. We decided to get past it because they said they wouldn't give us more rice, but the rice was cold and hard?? I got sesame chicken and they literally just gave me a plate of fried chicken. I had to ask for the sesame sauce and when they brought it to the table they didn't even give me enough to cover all my chicken. I ordered an appetizer with our drinks and we never received it so I had to ask to remove it from our ticket. No one got drink refills the whole time. This place is too expensive to give bad service, make us share a plate of rice, and not even give the sauce with the chicken. read more

Hard to believe we have never tried this before in our 9 years in the area. We don't eat Chinese much mainly because most of it is not very healthy, but we decided to do a Friday night here. We were seated fairly quickly, but waited a bit for our server. We placed our full order all at once and our drinks and hot and sour soup came out in good time. The hot and sour was some of the best I've tasted. I don't know if it is authentic, but I liked it. My egg roll was standard and came with hot mustard and a sweet dip. The spouse's lo mein took a bit and was just so so. The check was delivered in a timely manner, but we gave up waiting for it to be picked up and we left cash. My boyfriend and I shared the veggie lo mein and mapo doufu. The lo mein was pretty standard, so the star of the show was map doufu. It's basically tofu and white rice. It sounds simple, but it's something I now order every time I go to Royal Panda. We always end up with the same waiter and he is so nice and helpful! Was looking for Chinese delivery and we've never had this before so we gave it a shot. A little pricey. Best crab wontons I've ever had! Never had egg drop soup before and once I started I couldn't stop! I got the combination lo mein and there's enough food for two. So you're definitely getting your money's worth. It was good but the brown sauce is something different. The meats were all good but the shrimp stood out the most - kind of wish I would have just gotten shrimp lo mein! Will be eating here or ordering from again. 8/3/2014 Since then we have ordered combination fried rice and it's good, plenty of meat unlike a lot of other places we've been to. Having grown up in Germantown decades ago never ever came here despite it being 5min down the street. Curious for some new Chinese fare we tried it out. Pleasant surprise. Inexpensive entrees starting around $10. I'd say some dishes are done well, some were just ok, so it really depends on what you order. But we found overall food to be not overly salty and decent portions. Generally we enjoyed the General Tso, the Chinese greens and eggplant and lettuce wraps. The Peking duck was dry and the wraps were dry so it wasn't particularly good. It's Memphis so hey can't expect Peking Duck to be great, but I've definitely had better. If you crave it, it'll do the job. The Mongolian Beef wasn't particularly appetizing. The mapo tofu was a bit mild and watery unlike the spicier types we've had but it was mild enough to fit my parents tastes so it worked out. Service was a bit slow but we had 12 people on a Sunday night and they seemed backed up so not necessarily their fault. We would definitely come back again, probably do a little research on what to order. read more

This was a horrible experience. My friend ordered Fried rice with only Carrots,Brocolli, and snow peas. That sounds very simple with me. But, they managed to mess it up 3 times and never got it right. The first mess up was adding eggs it, so it was sent back, second mess up was adding mushrooms to the rice so we sent it back, third time they managed to get the ingredients right but the entire dish tasted burned. I'd like to review the meal, service, and restaurant...but due a gross lack of service and treatment we were unable to eat here. Upon arrival there was a small wait (Covid) but nothing more than a few mins. We were seated and then waited almost 15 mins with no service. Another couple had entered the building, were sat adjacent to our table, then a server came by our table to say someone would be with us soon. Then he proceeded to serve the adjacent table. I have been living in Germantown for around 14 years. This is the only Chinese restaurant that I will order from, the food is just outstanding. I sincerely recommend the empress chicken and hot and sour soup! I have been to the restaurant once but I usually get delivery. I ordered food from them yesterday and not only did the food arrive early but the delivery driver was very courteous. I have ordered delivery from other restaurants and the drivers have no idea about the food and lack any customer care. But this driver answered all my questions about my order. Customer Service is really big with me and especially from a delivery driver I was quite pleased. The food is outstanding and the customer service is top notch.
