Since this was our first time building a pool, we met with at least three different vendors. Royal's showroom was a great place to see their amazing craftsmanship and all the options we could choose from. Plus, our friends and neighbors gave us some great recommendations, which really sealed the deal for us. This review is long overdue! We started or planning process in July of 2024 with Mike who was very helpful bringing our vision to life. We iterated a bit on the design before settling on the final and Mike was helpful and informative the whole time. He was also upfront about the timeline and the things that were in his control and the things that were not, like permits. Once everything was approved the dirt work started. We were introduced to Jeff and Auria. Both were excellent to work with. Jeff had a very busy schedule but was always quick to reply and addressed any issues with a thorough explanation. Auria was an absolute pleasure to work with. She communicated everything clearly and checked in every step of the way. The construction was started in January 2025 and finished in May, including the decking that was done by Bayview Landscaping. Overall we couldn't be happier with the finished pool. Lastly it's worth noting, after the pool was completed we had some minor blemishes in the pebble finish. Royal Pools turned my boring backyard hillside into a luxury resort paradise. They designed and built the perfect lap pool, with solar heat, osmosis filter to reduce chlorine need, automatic cover, everything I needed to create my own four seasons resort. I love it. It all happened during COVID and no pool maintenance companies were available, so I learned it myself, and am saving thousands by taking care of my own pool. It's easy. I have Herb's come once a year to clean the big filters and check everything out. Royal was so overworked during the pandemic (everyone wanted a new pool) but they stayed on task, built an 80 ft ramp to get the bobcats up the hill, and kept in touch with me throughout. Craig had great ideas and a great vision of what would look good in my space. Project coordination with Haley was perfect, communication was great and they were always responsive to my questions. The field crew led by Orlando were also amazing: they showed up on time and kept the schedule, and were very professional and courteous with my neighbors. I would have been worried about the ongoing design planning going smoothly. - They stated time frames of up to a year to complete the project, and other Yelp reviews talk of similar delays. Our experience with Royal pools was incredible! We began this last November when we met with pool designer Mitch Baker in their office. We had a rough drawing of what we wanted and were looking to see if this would work with our budget. He came out to our home a week later to take photos and measurements to create an estimate and renderings of the proposed pool. We met another week later and were simply blown away. Below is a rendering and the final pool. WOW! Plus he created a video of the whole yard! Royal came in right where we were comfortable with and we signed that night. After plans and permitting, we were scheduled to begin the dig in mid-March. That's when we met Brian who was the dig foreman. To save some money, I had lined up a guy who was filling a pool and needed our dirt. That didn't work out too well the day of excavation and Brian told me he had plan B already in-place, so I felt these people had my back and I wasn't the first one to attempt this. Within two days, the hole was dug and shaped. It was amazing to see how fast they could do this and with such precision. Next one to enter was Roberto. He was to be our pool foreman and the one who would oversee every detail and communicate with us. Working with Roberto was a blessing. Not only did he communicate who was coming and what to expect, he was out front of everything all along the way from re-bar, to plumbing, to gunite to plaster. I can not say enough good things about Roberto as there were just so many times he could foresee an issue and be right ahead of it with the Subs. All along the way we felt Roberto and Tami, the scheduler, were keeping us at the top of the list and on a couple of instances when there was an opening to move a task date up, I'd get a call asking us if we wanted to jump ahead. Even after the pool was filled, Roberto came to inspect the details and talk to our hardscapers to make sure everything was done to the highest standards. There are SO many things you don't know and Roberto was always informing me of all the things I needed to know. Last guy to meet was Jay, who set up our equipment. He showed us how to operate everything and gave us an introduction to pool maintenance. We had an issue with the sweep losing its hose and he came right out and got it secured the next morning. We love our pool, and more than that, the experience we had with Royal. Five stars and Roberto gets ten! Highly recommended. read more

I would have given 0 if there was an option . It's been almost 12 months since we signed the contract ( during COVID 19 time ) and was well assured by sale executive to get the work done in 4-5 months max . First it took almost 6 months to get the approval from the city with the plan ( partial delay from city ) but also because of inaccurate / completeness of documentation , and super slow response . We as owner had to constantly follow up with almost no communication from the pool company during this time . After the permit it's been 6 months into the construction phase and we keep getting moving targets .. all we get to know as disclaimer in communications is " The pool industry is experiencing an unprecedented increase of business as a whole; this is causing delays across the board from permitting, material delivery to scheduling. Down time between phases should be expected ". Feels like a trap as none of these would be told when they would make a deal . First off let me say I just love our pool and spa. The final product is great. There are a few design issues that were not well translated from the 3D rendering but nothing fatal. The reason I gave such a low review for such a great pool is just how painful the process was. The salesman, Jim, was great. He took our ideas and gave us an awesome model. From there it was delay after delay and miss communication after miss communication. Turns out the site foreman never received the 3D model to reference so there was a lot of design elements lost in translation. And our salesman was very hard to get in touch with to answer questions and resolve problems. Eventually the site foreman, Stan, had to step in and be the voice of the company. It put him in an odd position but he made the best of it. I really beat him up with all the issues we had but he was a good sport about it in the end. At one point I had to call the office and work my way up the management chain to resolve an issue because our salesman was MIA. The company does great work, but you have to know up front that they'll get their pound of flesh for their efforts. read more

I contacted royal pool to create a pool in my back yard last year. Mike designed the pool and helped us choose the materials. He didn't show you a mere rectangle on a paper. He listened to all our wishes, our budget and made something nice out of them. He was not pushy and gave practical advices. We asked him for landscaper referrals. He gave us one name he likes to work with. Royal pools could do better in giving more name, as ultimately, we chose this landscaper and had only problems with him. The digging part was done by Brian and his crew. He made sure to check with me for what I wanted, to listen to me and gave me advices (like the size of the step) that turned out nice. He and his crew were efficient (and fun). Then, Curtis managed the rest of the work and any subsidies. I appreciate that it was easy to talk with him. He always answered my text/call promptly and with clear answers about schedules, permits, new pool owner's questions. He always kept me in the loop of the schedule. Except with the solar panel guy who was not keeping Curtis or I in the loop and would pop up in my house. Curtis is working hard, is trustworthy and nice. He always went beyond to make sure everything would work the best for us. At the end, Jay showed me how to start everything and helped me on the following months whenever I had a problem. When we decided to install a swimming pool last year as it was suggested that water therapy would be highly beneficial for our son who has autism I contacted Royal Pools. Don came to our home last June to take measurements and he came up with a beautiful design for our backyard. There was no pressure and Don checked in with me from time to time to see if he could answer any questions. When we were ready we signed the contract in August. The permit process took a couple months and excavation began on November 7th. Our pool was completed by the middle of February. Every step of the way the staff went above and beyond for us. Roberto was wonderful he did a great job of keeping me informed during each phase of construction and he was great at replying to my text messages EXTREMELY promptly!! Jay did a fantastic job of schooling me in how to use the pool equipment and when the one of the equipment parts stopped working he came to our home and replaced it (this was when Royal Pools was closed during the shelter in place order in April) which was AMAZING!!! Tami did a fabulous job of sending very detailed emails informing us of everything we needed to do. We now have a beautiful pool to enjoy and we cannot thank Royal Pools enough! read more

Expensive but MY GOODNESS does Royal build beautiful pools! So let's talk about service. We met Rick Swan 2 years ago when we got the "pool fever" after seeing our neighbors gorgeous pool (also built by Royal). Rick came to our home and took measurements and gave us a 3D rendering of our pool. We were reluctant to pull the trigger in 2017 and Rick did not pressure us - he just said "call me when and if you are ready". So sure enough a year passed and in July 2018 we called Rick again. He had saved everything and came right over and spray painted our grass where the pool site would be, drew up a contract and we signed in August. Rick is a great salesman - he is personable and knowledgeable and his no pressure approach makes working with him a breeze! Fast forward to Halloween once we finally had our permit from the city. Our excavation went very smooth with the Royal team - they even managed to take it it stride when we had to have an "archeology expert"on site to give a "sensitivity training" around possible native american artifacts (they were very nice and patient with the "expert" who sat on site ALL day and looked at the dirt they dug up which of course contained zero artifacts). After excavation Curtis was assigned as our project manager and he is a ROCK STAR. Curtis paid attention to every detail and was great about communicating with us every step of the way. Royal was incredibly patient with us when we selected coping from a 3rd party. It was delayed on a container for 7 weeks yet Royal kept in contact and did everything they could to keep the project moving. Icing on the cake is that Curtis has a great rapport with city inspectors which made all of our inspections go smoothly (plus of course the quality workmanship of Royals contractors). Suffice it to say if we did it all again we would hands down choose Royal - you get what you pay for and it's worth it! read more

Although we haven't hired them yet, they came out to provide a consultation and give an estimate and we greatly appreciated that there was no pressure whatsoever and Mike Blackburn took a lot of time with us and helped to guide us on what would be most feasible for our hillside area. He was doing the opposite of an "up-sell." Which shows he cares about the clients they serve, and not just how to get them to spend more, but to spend wisely. So while we are still on the fence about whether or not to invest in getting a pool, but if we do, we aren't even going to call anyone else, we will definitely be going with Royal Pools! read more

Be aware. This company is practicing discrimination, tons of hidden fees, and sketchy sales technics. I was trying to resolve multiple issues with the owner/manager Adam. During multiple calls, he was trying to reassure me that person of my age (somehow he knew that I am younger) is unable to state that Royal Pools is capable of making a mistake. They sold me the pool coping, delivered it, cut it to fit my pool cover, and refused to install saying that it was not included in our agreement (over $90k project, over $10k paid for pool cover and installation). Why did I pay for extra coping? The answer was - "just extra pieces in case of any future damages". Really? For 3 months, I had 15 feet of coping next to my pool just in case if it gets damaged so I can replace it? I had 2 more issues when they lied to me. I will describe it when I file a complaint with BBB and the state board. PS. Royal pools is a business: with a very outdated, poisonous business culture; with sales people (Don in my case )lying to customers to make them sigh the agreement and add as many fees as possible later; with business owners discriminating customers; with no humanity and understanding; with money on ming only It should be no place in our society for businesses with such a culture. read more

I am beyond pleased with Royal pools, as our pool is above and beyond what we had imagined. Mitchell designed a pool that was specific to our topography. At first he designed the pool of our dreams, which was well above our budget. When told, Mitchell made many small design suggestions to ensure the cost fit well within our budget. We were able to see the actual designs, and unlike other companies, they do not charge for the designs. Every phone call and question Mitchell answered within hours and was so easy to work with! Then came the excavation. They were digging into a hillside, so took every precaution to ensure safety of the land. They accounted for erosion control and talked us through every step, making sure we understood our options. Finally, enter Darren. Darren coordinated all of the steps in between, as well as the inspections. He was full of energy and made sure the guys were performing the work as required. Darren frequented the job site everyday and sent us regular text messages with project updates. In one instance a tile was blemished and I was not pleased. The very next day Darren had the masonry team out to replace the one tile. WOW, what service! They met the completion deadline and the pool came out amazing! They were the ones that sent us the quote on time (some of them didn't even send the quote). They were clear with the quote and worked with our budget. One thing we were impressed with is their professionalism, their knowledge and their materials' option. I have not really worked with the company directly, but I contacted Adam's pool in Pleasanton and they sent me a sales rep to give me an estimate where on his email domain was Royal Pool, so I take it that is sort of DBA in the sough bay. I know Adam's are reputable here in the bay area and has been around for so long, but if they continue to work with such reps as John Rafalsk he sure can drive them out of business. We were literary chasing him to get an estimate and when he finally did, it was way overpriced. when we told him that we got a better offer from another reputable company, all of a sudden he is the one chasing us, and knocking off a couple of thousands for dollars! Also throughout the process, he will try to add a few hundred here and there thinking we will not notice or will not remember.
