Our hotel experience was absolutely wonderful; We not only got a 15% discount because of the dates we reserved, but we also got free parking and 10% off food at Bellevilles, a diner-style restaurant nearby. The hotel rooms are not necessarily modern, but they are clean and quaint. The pool/hot tub, the game room with billards, and the wonderful welcoming young woman who checked us in were all added bonuses. The only downside; they didn't accept cash, so remember to have your debit card or credit card handy. We would absolutely return! read more

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go back in time say 50-60 years and live in your grandparents apartment. Well The Royal Scott's lets you do just that . Right down to 55 year old gold carpet, 70's peeling wall paper, appliances from the 70's , red velvet lamp shades and even a lumpy 55 year old mattress to complete the experience. You get to experience all of this for $320 a night. If this was in any other location or city it would have been bulldozed 30 years ago. To top it off our first room was a smoking room and smelled so bad I couldn't enter. The helpful bell boy admitted the hotel knew this but passes it off to third party reservations like Expedia and Booking as it is difficult to chase three parties. We however stood our ground and forced a move. In 57 years of travel I have never been in a place so in need of gutting. It smelled was worn out and the plumbing squeaked. I am shocked Expedia even lists this place. Please find another place anywhere but here. read more

the indoor pool is nice, although it's not quite big enough to fit the amount of people who go into it. The bedroom is big and so is the bathroom, but the kitchen is quite small. I'm not complaining, atleast there's a full one. The entire hotel and the vibes are just very off, and made me feel uncomfortable for the longest time. The wifi is terrible. I'm sorry to say that, but I could barely write this review without it lagging out. Wont let me do absolutely anything. That's something you should definitely improve on. read more

A relatively well priced online deal and a roof over our heads with what is undoubtedly the busiest weekend in Victoria's history (little did I know it was the Victoria Marathon) landed me in Victoria this past Thanksgiving weekend. There to explore the sights, by which I am actually referring to as shopping and eating, all I was really looking for was a clean, warm and quiet place to rest my weary feet. And that's basically what I got, with the added bonus of a suite, complete with a full kitchen and partitioned off bedroom and bathroom. Every morning I got the pleasure of walking through the Parliament grounds or down by the harbour on my way off to explore. If I was here on an extended stay, this would be even more ideal! So why 3 from me? When I go to a hotel, I suppose I expect friendly and kind service. Instead, I got condescending remarks and unfulfilled requests, both checking in and checking out. So a solid 4 star quickly became an average 3. Oh and on Thanksgiving, Channel 100 allows you to enjoy your roasting turkey in front of a roaring fire. My stay at the Royal Scot was wonderful. I booked it through Priceline and the front desk lady mentioned that I was upgraded with an extra bed and more space with a full kitchen. Super awesome! The room was very spacious. There was a half partition separating the beds so it may be a great room for friends traveling together. The staff was very friendly and efficient. We stayed here for 3 nights in April 2018, and had a wonderful time. All the staff were so friendly (reception desk staff, bellman, gift shop staff, maintenance men, and most especially the waitress at Jonathan's). Try the apples at the front desk. We had a studio suite, and our room was huge! It had everything you could possibly need: fully equipped kitchen, extra pillows and blankets handy, bathrobes, nice toiletries, working hairdryer, umbrellas. Outside of the room as well: pool/hot tub, games room (with puzzles, board games, books), shuttle, gift shop. This would be a great option for a long-term stay. Location is perfect, just a few blocks from the ferry, and a short walk to everything in town. I would absolutely stay at the Royal Scot again, and recommend it to my friends and family. read more

Oh, where to start. We stayed in a one-bedroom suite here, and it was probably the best rooming experience we had on our week-and-a-half long Vancouver / Victoria / Seattle trip. The staff is extremely helpful here, and little touches around the room like leaving a cookie for the kids and having a large assortment of cookware around the kitchen for us to use were much appreciated. The place was a bit warm despite the thermostat being set to the lowest temperature possible and the large number of fans placed around the rooms but it was barely noticeable. The best thing about the room, though, was the location - don't take this the wrong way, the room was very good in and of itself. But the fact that it was located a few minutes' walk from the legislative buildings and the harbor changed this place from a hotel of note to a must-stay. Two notes, though - the basement holds the pool and game room, both of which we would have made extensive use had we known about them earlier. The laundry room in the basement closes at something like 10pm, but there is an auxiliary laundry room on the first floor open all night. read more

Excellent location and the nicest customer service we've experienced in a long time. The staff helped my step-dad gather all the supplies he needed to make a pin-hole viewer to watch the transit of Venus. Amazingly friendly. And you couldn't ask for a more convenient location- half a block from parliament and the harbor. Rooms are cozy and spacious, and the kitchen was a bonus. As an SPG Platinum member, I'm kinda spoiled with the hotel rooms I receive. I usually stay in hotels at least 50 nights per year. I booked the RoyalScot as I found a pretty good rate. We were able to check in early after taking the morning ferry from Vancouver. We received an upgrade to a 2 double suite. The room was pretty standard for about a 3 star hotel, but the furnishings were a bit outdated. The tv provided was a flat screen, so it's not like you're getting a tube television. Our room on the 2nd floor was pretty quiet. The location is one block from parliament and about 10 minutes walk to all the main streets. The only drawback was that parking was $15 when the nicer place across the street charged half that amount. Overall, it was a good stay for those who are just looking for a place to sleep as we were. It's rated as a 4 star hotel, but I would rank it closer to 2.5. read more

This not so little hotel is located in downtown Victoria, BC. It's about 1 block away from the marina. The Royal Scot is within walking distance of everything you want to do in downtown Victoria. We paid about $122 per night, which for the area isn't too bad considering the location. It's defintiely an older hotel, not ancient, but it is well maintained. The rooms were clean and decent sized. The bathrooms were also very clean and have a shower/bath combo. Now here's the one thing I don't get. Who the heck is gonna use a coffee pot and eat shortcake that's left on a bathroom counter?!? I'm mean seriously people are using the bathroom for not so sanitary purposes and they stick a coffee pot and shortbread packets in there. Okay rant over. Some of the amenities of the hotel were wireless internet, an indoor pool and jacuzzi, bath robes, gym, an attached restaurant (didn't get to try), room service, recreation rooms, etc. Suffice it to say there was alot going for the hotel. Overall it was a good hotel, but I would try a different place next time. read more

Located in scenic Victoria British Columbia, the Royal Scot Inn is a fantastic place to stay for a relaxing weekend away or a full vacation. Located just a couple of blocks from the fairy terminals, the Royal Scot offers personalized and attentive service in a spacious suite setting. On a recent visit, we were happy to see that despite some updates to the decor, the hotel was still the great home away from home we have come to love when we are in Victoria. We were given a tour of the hotel and learned that it started out as an apartment complex and that it is a popular stop for seniors who spend the winter in Victoria to escape the colder climates in Central and Eastern Canada. After seeing some of the other room types such as the studio and one bedroom units, we were able to tour the updated recreation, pool and spa areas as well as the laundry facilities. I was amazed at the spacious room that had a comfortable living room area complete with a couch, chairs, table, desk, and lamps. The unit also had a fully stocked kitchen as a stove, oven, microwave, sink, and a fridge were all included as well as plates, silverware glasses, cups and more to truly give a home away from home feeling and makes the Royal Scot ideal from extended getaways. The bedroom was spacious and like the living room, also included a television as well as a phone, stereo, clock radio and ample closet space complete with robes for visiting the pool/spa area. The Royal Scot also includes a full work out facility and spacious locker room facility. I enjoyed the comfortable indoor pool as well as the spacious hot tub and sauna. The rooms were spacious and offered the most amenities of any hotel I have ever stayed at worldwide. For younger guests, the Royal Scot offers an arcade and Internet access stations as well as reading, game, laundry, and social rooms. The Royal Scot also offers shuttle service as well as a restaurant and bar and room service. I found the restaurant to be a great value as the menu was impressive and the salads alone made the trip worth while. During our trip we visited the Royal B.C. Museum. The attraction contained a very impressive and rare display of statues and artifacts as well as the Craigdarroch Castle which has to be seen to be believed. My wife suggested that we pick up some groceries and thanks to the rooms full kitchen, we were able to bake cookies before settling in for the evening as well as enjoy a nice breakfast in the morning. The spa and pool were very welcome after a long day, and within a few minutes in the spa, we were ready to walk the scenic Inner Harbour and see more of the scenic city. During our first stay athe the hotel, my wife was involved in an accident on one of the scooter rentals. The staff of the Royal Scot provided complete care for us including arranging for a taxi from the hospital and a wheelchair when we arrived back at the hotel to the welcoming notes from the resident Bagpiper. It is little attentions to detail such as this as well as the fantastic suite that makes me wish I would have had more time to experience the Royal Scot and causes me to look forward to future visits. The Hotel also offers a great bar and restaurant called Jonathans which offers great meals as well as drinks for those who want everything from a quick snack to a full dinner. 5 stars out of 5 read more

Loved this place! Biggest criticism was that their sheets aren't very nice- they're sort of rough and scratchy. And it would be great if they would somehow not allow anyone under the age of 18 into the pool area after 9pm- after a long day, annoying shouting children are the worst. The location is fantastic, and the price is pretty low considering how close it is to downtown and a bunch of attractions. The suite was spacious and comfortable. read more

Rooms are big fresh and clean with a full kitchen. The service was courteous and friendly and we arrived 2 hrs before check in time and were able to get our rooms straight away! We also ate breakfast down in the hotel which was absolutely gorgeous. Perfect poached eggs. Very reasonable price and great value! They also have a little gift shop that has bits and pieces like milk, some chocolate and general stuff! All in all, a great experience, can't wait to come back. read more

We arrived in Victoria via ferry. The hotel was just around the block. It's a well manicured establishment. Everything was clean. So many things to do in the hotel. The Royal Scot is nice, decently priced, quiet, clean, smells fine, and very close to Clipper and COHO docks. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The game rooms in the basement are a nice touch. The swimming pool is nice, though noisy when there are a lot of people. There's a sauna in the locker room, another nice touch. The suite rooms are spacious, beds are OK but not bad, and the efficiency kitchen is easily used by one person. The kitchen is stocked with the basics, but not much more. There's plenty of room in the cupboards / refrigerator / freezer to stock up (there's a Thrifty Foods about 6 blocks south at Menzies / Simcoe) for a long stay, if desired. I enjoyed having free wi-fi in the room. Coffee (weak, not strong) is available in the lobby in the mornings, and there is a breakfast / lunch / dinner restaurant (Jonathan's Restaurant) too (I did not try it out). read more

I stayed at the Royal Scot for just one night as a sorta layover from Vancouver to Port Angeles, WA. The location of the hotel is fantastic, as others have said, it's so close to the Black Ball Ferry line and it's a nice walk to the downtown area which was pretty cool since I only had one day to check out Victoria. I think I would have enjoyed my stay if I had a better room. That's probably my fault because I opted for the single room rather than the nicer suite or mini-suite rooms (decided to try and save a buck, oops). So, the room was located on the first floor right next to the gift shop. I figured I wouldn't make a fuss since I was only there one night but I kinda wish I did since I realized, at a really inopportune moment, that people walking around outside could see into the room! Perhaps an oversize shrub would be nice right outside the window so the folks staying in that specific room could have the window open without wondering eyes...just a thought. The staff was really friendly, a redeeming quality, and refunded the price we paid for parking our car over-night when we explained that the car would be parked at the Black Ball Ferry line rather than their parking lot (awesome). I think I would probably come back to Royal Scot the next time I'm in Victoria but I would definitely request a room on a higher floor! read more

We love this hotel. It seems to cater more to an older crowd so it's quiet...which we love. They always upgrade us to a suite so we have plenty of room. The pool area is wonderful. We usually end up having it to ourselves. The staff is friendly. The shuttle service is convenient. The gift shop stocks just the right amount of snacks and food in case you can't get to the store. The only negatives I can report are we did hear noise coming from our upstairs neighbors at times. I will ask for a top floor room from now on. Also, their restaurant isn't much to speak of but there's plenty of places around to grab a bite. The restaurant at the Days Inn across the street has really good food. We've stayed here twice now and it's always been pleasant. read more

I stayed at this hotel for 3 days over the summer and I really enjoyed it. Since my dad booked the room, it must have been reasonably priced too. It was about a 10 minute walk to a grocery store and post office and a 5 minute walk to the waterfront and touristy areas. The area had ample parking and such, but was still close to the sights. We had a room with a kitchen and living room and it was very well stocked and comfortable. The employees were very nice and accommodating. They drove us across town in the free shuttle van and gave me about 10 Victoria maps because I kept losing them. The highlight of the stay at the Royal Scot Suite was the bagpipe player that came every afternoon. It was awesome. The only thing that I wasn't very pleased with was the wifi connection. I ended up connecting to the hotel across the street's network. read more

Stayed here in September with four adults and two small children. We had a suite with a king bed and a couch that opened to a queen size. Very comfortable, like a small 600 sqft apartment. Having the kitchen was great. Came stocked with everything you need including an oven with stove top, microwave, toaster, utensils, dishes, and even a frying pan. Pool and hot tub along with a dry sauna were wonderful. Basement also has coin laundry facilities, computer, and games to play. I was really worried about not having air conditioning but with the windows open and provided fans, it wasn't necessary. It was also in a perfect location, right next to the Parliament building. I didn't check out the restaurant because it want reviewed well but there was free coffee & apples every morning in the lobby. The drip coffee and coffee pot provided in the room was also nice and delicious. The place has an older feeling but still extremely comfortable and welcoming. The only improvement I'd like to see is to their fitness room. It is tiny; only containing one treadmill, one elliptical, two stationary bikes, a floor mat, a bench, and a set of dumbbells that range from 3-20 lbs. It is inside the pool room and has no real space to use the weights or floor mat. I'd like to see a larger range of weights, bands, yoga ball, and a pull-up bar added. Maybe remove one stationary bike to make room or just relocate the fitness room. Anyway, with that aside, I'd definitely stay here again. read more

BOTTOM LINE: We are a Senior couple and fussy when the rates are over $100/day. This is one of the best two or three hotels we have stayed at in any country. The Royal Scot has a traditional English feel to it much like the Empress Hotel, at 1/3 the price. PRICES/ACCOMMODATIONS: Rented a King room for 6 days September 2013 and were upgraded, without asking, to a suite. Total price per day about $160, including taxes and $15/day parking. Clean spacious rooms with comfortable bed with large TV in living room and bedroom. Spacious living room, kitchen and dining area, really a small apartment. Everything in working order and well maintained. If anything was not, our sense is that it would be taken care of quickly. A wonderfully warm spa with robes and towels provided for those cooler, rainier days or just to relax after a lot of sight seeing. Also has a pool which we did not try. KITCHEN/FOOD: Fully equipped kitchen with daily cookies, coffee and tea. Gift shop has a good supply of staples but Thrifty supermarket 6 blocks away in James Bay area has more at better prices. SERVICE: Desk staff seemed able to answer every imaginable question with a friendly helpful style. Daily newspaper delivered to your room door. Room cleaning at your convenience or not at all as you chose. Cleaners helpful and friendly. If you go out your door, they push the elevator button for you so it gets to the floor sooner. INTERNET ACCESS: Internet went out twice and when phone tech could not solve the problem within 15 minutes a tech came to our room and did it. I can't get that kind of service from my fortune 500 company in-house techs. LOCATION: Two blocks from Port Angeles ferries. Walking distance to House of Parliament, inner harbor tours, Empress hotel, on-off bus stop and Government Street pub and shopping area. Harbor House restaurant nearby is quite good but a bit pricey. Within 5 blocks of easy access to Hwy 1 Transcanada and Hwy 17 north to Nanaimo and Sidney Ferries to San Juan Islands and Anacortes. RESTAURANT. Jonathan's, the hotel restaurant, has a varied menu of well prepared food at reasonable prices. But it does have a host that does not have a helpful approach. Asked to borrow the menu so my wife (who has walking difficulty) could see the evening specials, not listed on the web site. Answer: against policy. Theft of menu's must be a major cost problem for the restaurant. The only instance of poor customer service. Also be aware that the restaurant is often booked for Breakfast. There are likely less expensive hotels in the area but can't imagine a better price/value place to stay. read more

I was pleasently surprised as I didn't pick this place...it was a surprise birthday trip and this hotel did not dissapoint. It put a big smile on my face! You cannot beat the location relative to visiting Victoria especially when on foot, and they have a complimentary shuttle within a 10 block radius....very nice service and quick. The rooms are large and well taken care of. They are clean clean clean. Yes the beds (mattresses could probably use some updating but over all very sleepable). The only complaint that i have is I find the toilets to be SUPER tiny....but hey I can deal with that. The staff was incredibly nice and accomodating. For the price and what you get you cannot go wrong with this place. I LOVE THIS PLACE and highly reccomend it to anyone staying there. P.S. Surprised it was only getting 3 stars and the comments were positive. Lets give this place their just due....they deserve 5 stars. If you want to pay more and just a little bit more fancy go down the street to the Empress they would love to have your money. read more

I was worried about staying here after reading some poor reviews, but I really liked this hotel. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because the building is a little older, and the pipes made weird noises at night (my husband and I swore it sounded like an electric guitar through an amplifier). We originally paid for the cheapest room, but were upgraded to a suite for free so we ended up having a living room and kitchen (I would recommend getting this room). It was well stocked and on the 4th floor, so quiet and private. There was a television in the living room and bedroom, as well as a sofa-bed (not very comfortable to sit on) and 2 comfy chairs. The room had a safe, bathrobes, ironing board, hair dryer, just about everything else a person would need. The restaurant downstairs provides room service (but it's not cheap!) so we ate breakfast in our room. The location was also really good. It's a block from the harbor, so getting to and from the clipper was easy. The hotel has a shuttle that will take you within 10 blocks, so getting around wasn't a problem. There is also a Budget Rent-A-Car 3 blocks from the hotel, and they give you a 15% discount if you're staying at Royal Scot and you can park free at the hotel. Good deal! The hotel also has a a game room, pool table, shuffleboard, pool and hot tub. We didn't really take advantage of these amenities, but we did play pool! There is also a gift shop, and right across the street there's a shop to buy beer (in the Days Inn). On to the staff. They were great! Everyone we dealt with was helpful and friendly. They recommended things for us to do, and even had a coupon for the butterfly gardens when we mentioned we were interested in the Butchart Gardens. They have a desk with pamphlets for all the touristy things you can do in Victoria, but I only saw someone sitting at it once. The staff at the front desk were able to help us with that sort of thing, so it wasn't a problem. I will definitely be choosing this hotel for my next stay in Victoria. I'll opt for the better room, because I really liked it and I'm sure it's worth the extra money. read more

We went with my in-laws on Canada day and had joining rooms. The check in was easy but they forgot to tell us there was a fee for our dog and only told us the day before we left that we had to pay for her $50.00. They were however great about not forcing us to change to a dog friendly room and break up our joint rooms. The parking was super easy and the staff were very friendly.
