We started with the fried cauliflower and zaatar fries, both served with an incredible dipping sauce that disappeared embarrassingly fast. The cauliflower was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, tender inside, and honestly good enough to order again on its own. For my meal, I ordered the shakshuka. It arrived bubbling hot in a cast iron skillet with rich tomato sauce, flavorful meatballs, perfectly baked eggs, and warm grilled pita for scooping up every last bite. I've had shakshuka before, and this was easily one of the best versions I've tasted. Every bite was comforting, hearty, and packed with flavor. Spud went with a Laziz salad alongside another helping of the roasted cauliflower, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Everything that came to the table looked thoughtfully prepared, fresh, and beautifully presented. What made the experience truly memorable, though, was our waitress, Omri. As a Deaf customer, it's always a pleasant surprise when someone can communicate directly in sign language. Omri signed with us, made us feel genuinely welcome, and provided exceptional service from beginning to end. That personal connection meant a great deal to me, and it absolutely elevated an already wonderful meal. I was so impressed that I happily double-tipped her. Great food, warm hospitality, and an experience my son and I will both remember. We'll definitely be back.

I personally afraid to order chicken since most restaurants I went to always comes out dry, but the chicken was cooked perfectly. I would definitely come back when I visit Salt Lake City again. A lot of parking space. I think most people order to go, but they have a lot of tables to sit. They also have booths where the table is low and looks like you can sit on the floor.

This was REALLY outside of my comfort zone, but I'm trying to push myself to try new things. When I walked in, I was warmly greeted. The whole place felt very inviting. It was fairly empty for lunch on a Friday but more people did filter in throughout my meal. They are a Pepsi establishment, and my Diet Pepsi was pretty good! I ordered the mix koobideh kabob which comes with one chicken and one beef kabob. It also comes with rice, onion, and basmati rice. I also ordered a side of plain naan since they were out of garlic. The meal comes with soup. The soup smelled amazing and looked nutritious with lentils and vegetables. I'm personally not a soup person because I don't like mushy foods, so the texture was hard for me but I thought the flavor was great. The kabobs smelt AMAZING and the flavors match it. The meat on both was incredibly tender and juicy. The flavors really came through nicely. I also really enjoyed the grilled tomato. Overall, this was a really good experience for me especially since it was so far out of my comfort zone.

Shaku Maku is situated nearest to State Street, and as I always mention in reviews for this area, the parking is ridiculous. I don't know who designed the lot, but good grief it's stupid. Anyways, find a weird wonky space in which to leave your car, and head on into Shaku Maku. On my visit I was greeted immediately by the friendly cashier, then allowed to wander around discovering goodies to my heart's content. As you enter, you'll find sweets on your left, and they had about ten varieties of halva alone, so that's a big thumbs up from me (only way to beat that would be some freshly sliced, get on that, guys!). There were plenty of cookies, candy bars, chocolate covered dates, and just so many treats! Huzzah! Then, lots of pickled vegetables, beans, rice, spices, bulk nuts and dried fruits, some frozen meats and vegetables, a little fresh produce, cheese, and just all the staples you would expect to find at a Middle Eastern grocery. It's neither large nor tiny, and I am impressed by all they had stocked, without it feeling stuffed in. Prices were very reasonable, and check out was a breeze, with great customer service for the entirety of my visit. I get SO excited when shopping specialty markets or simply purchasing unusual ingredients and the employees want to share recipes. Here, the cashier and I had a passionate discussion about the glory of halloumi and similar cheeses, excitedly swapping recipes and uses, and he shared some really great ideas. I will certainly return.
