My husband hadn't stopped talking about the Toasted Cheeser food truck since he got a bacon grilled cheese sandwich from there months ago. He's been wanting me to try the sandwiches on the truck but as time got away from us, the truck was closed for the day but this sister spot was open for an hour more. We headed to Newgate mall and walked inside the Quilted Bear. Tucked away in a corner is Mama's Toasted Cheeser, complete with a large counter and sizable seating area. "Mama" met us at the counter as I perused the expansive menu. I've been to grilled cheese restaurants and food trucks but none of those compared to the variety of offerings that she had. From a classic grilled cheese sandwich to the additions of ham, bacon, turkey, crab, chicken and ranch, pickles, jalapeño, pepperoni and pizza sauce, and roast beef and bbq sauce were on the menu. But then there were also 23 "specialty" Cheeser options including peanut butter, hawaiian, gyro, taco, spinach and artichoke, and ravioli grilled cheese sandwiches?!?! I was torn between the carne asada, philly cheesesteak, and pork and mac. I asked "Mama" and she said that a fan favorite was the pork mac and so I ordered that. I've had macaroni and cheese and pulled pork on a grilled cheese sandwich before which was unsuccessful. I had high hopes that this place would be able to pull it off. We ordered our sandwiches and made them combos, which included mini fries, drink, and cookies for $4. I must say I was surprised to see packaged cookies as I was thinking that fresh cookies would be included. But the amount of fries more than made up for that. If what we had was the mini fry size, I have no idea how large the other sizes are! We got our meals to go and added a little dessert - triple chocolate cheesecake and bread pudding - which "Mama" told us she got from a local bakery. My sandwich was filled with pork and the macaroni and cheese was spilling out. There was no easy way to eat it as a handheld sandwich so I resorted to using a fork and knife. Kudos to this place for using bread that held up and didn't become soggy. It had a nice crunch to it and the sprinkled parmesan on top was a nice touch. The sandwich was very good. What impressed me most was that while the macaroni and cheese and bbq pulled pork were plentiful, there was no confusion about this being a grilled cheese sandwich. The addition of three cheeses ensured a great "cheese pull". The fries seemed undercooked, limp, and a little too greasy for me. I love a great grilled cheese sandwich and Mama's Toasted Cheeser definitely understands the art of making one. I look forward to coming back and trying more of their offerings. read more

Tried these guys out today since they were on our lineup at work. I actually really liked my bacon grilled cheese. I'm not normally a fan of stringy fries - but they were pretty good with the fry sauce. It is actually pretty reasonable - although food trucks in general are a bit spendy. read more

Going to bounce around a bit for this review...first, this place launched in 2020 and I would be remiss if I did not note that I find launching during a pandemic to be an incredibly brave thing to do, so kudos there. This is in the Quilted Bear kitty corner from the Burn Your Tongue hot shelves, which makes it a handy combination. BYT has even supplied a number of sauces to try with the various foods and cheese and hot sauce and fried foods together exceedingly well, so if you try a sauce you like, unlike say at Firehouse, you can just wander over to the BYT shelves and pick up a bottle on your way out. I have been predisposed to try this for a while, but the timing never worked until today. It was always on my list, but I'm not a huge grilled cheese fan to begin with and when I do want them, have sort of perfected my own version, so it's not something I generally look for, but, again, given the proximity to BYT, whose shelves I haunt regularly, I always had it in back of mind. Good, if somewhat uninspired, selection of chips, excellent selection of drinks, including their own concoctions, and just quite a lot of desserts and sides, all of which are definitely of the "comfort food" leanings. I went with the crab version of the toasted cheese sandwich. It was cooked very well, bread was nicely toasted, though a bit on the greasy side (then again, with cheese, it's hard to move from this too much) and portions looked pretty good. I got it to go and was a bit surprised it wasn't sliced, but I opened up the sandwich to see how sloppy it would be to eat while driving. I rarely do this, but it turns out that it was fortunate that I did. The menu listed the following ingredients: crab, Havarti, Cheddar. It did not say krab (I would have been ok, if it did); it similarly did not say crab salad, but inside, I found quite of wealth of onions (and possibly diced jalapenos). This became immediately problematic as I cannot eat onions without also getting immediately ill. So, I scraped them off best I could and wound up with half a sandwich, which was okay-ish. Now, I bypassed a number of other items that DID list onions and would not have ordered this had I known, but this is one of the things that instantly turns me angry (I am docking one star for this). Leaving aside the idea that I have to inspect everything I eat to make sure it is safe, that is a really asinine thing for any restaurant to do. Here, there was no reasonable way for me to expect shit like that in there, particularly given the menu listing. I would ordinarily say it was my fault for ordering the wrong thing, but not this time. Maybe someone put them in there erroneously, I suppose (way to many to just be strays), but extremely frustrating, to say the least. Anyway, I will give them benefit of the doubt and try them again in future, but I really hope they revamp their menu to give a full listing of what is in the sandwiches, as had I not inspected the sandwich, that could have turned bad really quickly. It's a shame, this place that is very clean, very well-put together, and brimming with potential. read more

I ordered in for pick up through Grub Hub. The place was hard to find it's located inside the mall in some other store in the corner somewhere. By the time I got my food it was cold. The only lady working and probably making my food was not wearing a mask and she also did not have any gloves on. I was hesitant to eat my cold sandwich but I had no other choice I had already paid for it ahead of time and I was starving by that time. We've been trying to get to this spot for awhile now and now that we made it, I wish we would have made MORE of an effort to get her sooner. The establishment is inside of Quilted Bear in Ogden, so it's kind of obscure. However, there is an entrance right into QB and it's right by where Mamas is at plus, hardly anyone parks right by those doors... so that's a plus. Inside, the place is clean and tidy. The woman who helped us was very friendly and helpful. I almost feel as though maybe it's rather slow in there so maybe she was excited to have customers. The food is such a simple concept but they execute it perfectly. They have several choices of how to make your Cheeser... in fact, we had a hard time deciding on just one but that also means we WILL be back SOON. I got the gyro and my wife got the spinach bacon artichoke. We also got an order of cheese fries... we got a small and it was PLENTY for two of us. All 3 were delicious.
