We visited midmorning Wednesday and enjoyed an hourlong walk along the meandering pathway through…read morethe property. It would easily take more time to explore each nook and cranny of this beautiful space. We parked in the large gravel lot and stopped to check out the info board, entrance plaques, and admire the large doors in the entry gate. The path wound through the property past many interesting sculptures and trees marked with identifying tags. The largest feature is the large koi pond and has a pleasant waterfall feature at one end and large landscaped beds at the opposite side. There are also smaller ponds and water pathways (dry beds in August) with multiple bridges to allow for great views. One of the pathways wound down to a creek area and another rose up to a higher overlook point on an abandoned train trestle. This garden park was showing a bit of stress with the extended timing of late August heat for the past few weeks. Many of the hydrangeas were beyond salvaging for late blooming, which is just nature having its way. Would like to return next spring to explore further since there are multiple paths and limited time during this visit. Location is approximately an hour's drive from Louisville.

I met a lovely man named Dave in the champion horse barn. He was fantastic, and took the time to tell me a bit of horse history. He even brought one of the retired champions up to the stall door so that my dog could get familiar with horses. Meeting Dave made my entire trip that even more memorable. We got to stop and watch some of the horse events going on. I loved watching the horses competing in the jump course. This is a large park and there is a lot to take your time and see. They have a nice gift shop. There is a food hall too but I didn't try it during this trip. It is $28 to get in, but is worth it and you can get in the next day for free. I am glad I had the opportunity to stop and see the park.

I would definitely recommend that you bring hydration if it's a particularly sunny/warm day out, as you will need it. While Google Maps and Garmin may lead you astray, there are actually several places to park here (not just the one by the park entrance). If you keep driving past it, you'll see a few more (possibly more... My exploration was pretty limited). I will say that the paved bike/walking bath is very nice, well kept, and (at least today) pretty quiet. Very flat with lots of long rolling hills (although a few may prove tough to novices). I'm definitely planning on coming back to work on improving my very meager bicycling skills.

This greenway trail seems like what I've been looking for. Lexington is notable for having a…read morerelative lack of urban sprawl, with zoning laws ensuring that much of the city is surrounded by rolling hills covered with farms. The outskirts of the city are very pretty to drive through, but you can't really do much as the farms are privately owned and there isn't much in the way of parks or trails. Enter this paved pathway, which runs from the city proper out to the horse center. It seems geared towards bikers, which I am not, but there was certainly space for pedestrians and I saw a few others. I visited a section that ran by some university-owned test farms, and got a treat with nice views, ample songbirds, and peace and quiet. I did get mobbed by some sort of fly as it got dark; though it did not seem to be of any biting or stinging variety you definitely want to consider repellent, along with something for pollen allergies and some sunscreen. The entire length of the trail is farther than I could walk on one night, but I suspect it will be well worth exploring, as this is exactly the sort of thing Lexington needs.

It is a short walk around the park with educational markers telling the history of Lexington, the geological area, and the local horse farms to the west. If you are into history or just looking for a scenic spot to take a break, this is worth your time to check out.
