Current owners were off to a good start and food was fantastic. Then lots of items stopped being available, they close for long periods of time for vacations, and now they have closed all inside seating and only do takeout. Saturday night in January we arrived 30min before closing and started walking in to the restaurant and open the door, but they saw us and ran to lock The door and turned off the "open" sign right in front of us. It seems like most Asian Restaurant here in Anchorage are fusion with other Asian falvors, I look at the photos on google and decided that this must be the real Thai food. For a party of 3 we ordered 6 dishes and Thai ice tea, and everythingwas good, even better than the Royal Thai in Dallas, TX, my favorite Thai Rest. It gets two stars for two reasons...the food is ok...I have tried it four different times with four different dishes. The food has been passable, but rather bland. One time I ordered mild and my friend ordered hot, two different kinds of dishes, her had no heat whatsoever and mine was so hot it almost made me cry. But they insisted they didn't get the orders mixed up. One time I got chunks of plastic inside my crab rangoons. And one time, dining in, the waiter ignored us almost the entire time to talk to a very loud lady up front waiting on take out. There was talk about guns and killing people. It was great. Not. So, service has not been good any of the times I have been there, the food is not all that fabulous, and they don't think it's a big deal to serve you deep fried plastic in your food. I've been wanting to try this place for a while. I'm sorry I waited. I did a side by side comparison with another place on Diamond near my neighborhood. Gyoza, pad Thai, stuffed chicken wing, and pan ang beef. The chicken wing came in second. Everything else destroyed! I have a new place for Thai. Thank you! read more

First time trying Royal Thai. We came on a Sunday at about 1:30. We got an order of fresh rolls, Penang curry and pad Thai. I thought the pad Thai sauce was really yummy, not too peanutty. They put spice and peanuts on the side because I didn't get any spice to it. The fresh rolls were not my favorite. It came with a peanut sauce and some type of salad dressing that was vinegary. Each of our dishes (group of four) came out in different stages which was a little strange. Decent sized menu too. Each of the main dishes we got were $13 each so not bad at all. read more

The thai tea was creamy and sweet, just the way I like it. Not all restaurants in town make it this good. The panang curry had a rich peanut flavor and the Tom yum was was loaded with flavor. Overall really satisfied. read more

So glad I stumbled across this restaurant! My bf has celiac disease so eating Thai can be challenging due to soy sauce. The first time we went we expressed our concerns and they went above and beyond to cater to his needs! Such a relief. We've been going here every other week if not every week since last year. Super small restaurant, and unassuming visually outside so I wouldn't think to go in but I did and was very pleasantly surprised. Small and homey Thai restaurant with delicious food and respectful and attentive staff. They even adjusted the heat on my red curry. We eat frequently in Thai restaurants and so I have an opportunity to compare flavors and this one is right up toward the top. I really wanted to like this place because the reviews seemed good. But... My pad thai (which any reputable Thai restaurant should be a pro at since its the most basic dish you can order) had a strange gritty/sandy texture. I don't believe it was egg shell. I wish I would have taken pictures but more importantly was how great the food was. It just moved into first place for Thai food in Anchorage for me. We had several dishes so I'll break it down for you. Fresh rolls- came with two different sauces and both were delish! Crab wontons- how can you go wrong really? Again the sauce was another great one. Phad Thai- This one was packed with flavor and just the right amount of sauce to not be dried out or too much either. Great flavor and as hot as you like. Phad see ew- my favorite dish by far and they nailed it. Most places do not use enough sauce so it soaks into those fat noodles and it dries out, becomes bland. This was so flavorful and if you're going to try any dish there, let it be this. Spicy Angel- wonderful flavor packed with some heat! It tasted similar to a Curry but loaded with noodles and veggies. Really a great dish. The service was great and they were very friendly, even if it was just takeout. Can't wait to go back! read more

I stopped by here on a Thursday night to order take out and am pretty disappointed. I ordered the basil chicken and tofu appetizer. The basil chicken was so salty, I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. I had about three bites and threw the rest away. It tasted like someone accidentally poured the whole container of salt in it. The tofu appetizer tasted old. Like it has been sitting in the back of a freezer and was freezer burned. This little restaurant is hidden in a strip mall. My adult son and I went here today. It was so good! We shared the fresh spring rolls with shrimp. They were very good. He had the Pad Thai and loved it. I had the cashew vegetables. It was so tasty. I don't know how the prices were because my son paid. I will go here again. It is a friendly quiet place. read more

I appreciate Royal Thai... the food is never unsatisfying and their whole menu can be adjusted to vegan dishes. The food comes out hot and the service is great. They deliver and can make food to-go pretty quick as well if you feel like staying in. I will not go anywhere else for thai food! It is worth it to give these guys a try at least once! read more

I highly recommend this place for takeout! I haven't utilized the delivery service due to the high price, but it's nice that it's offered. The times I've eaten in the restaurant it was a slightly odd experience. Service was scattered, with forgotten drinks and something that tasted much more like BBQ sauce brought in place of the sriracha I ordered. But the food was all good, highly recommend the panang curry & crab rangoon. Fried rice was OK, not amazing compared to other placed in town, but decent. The interior is very small, so when there's more than a few other people there, it feels pretty cramped.
