Visited here for the first time a little over a week ago. This place is easy to miss especially depending on from what side you approach it. There was parking onsite. There were tables inside but I did take out. It's a very causal place. The staff person who helped me was very kind. My food was tasted very fresh. I ordered the Tom Yum Goong soup . It was more spicy than I expected. I don't mind spice but if you prefer medium to mild spice this soup may be too spicy for you. I also ordered Pad See Ew and Sweet Rice with Thai Custard. They both were pretty good too. I would visit here again and try some other dishes. The staff person said they have a page on the menu with mainly just traditional dishes. We ordered appetizers and a couple of entrees from the restaurant. We're from out of town and wanted to have some good Thai food. This place didn't disappoint us. We had the eggplant and chicken and pad kee mow with shrimp. Staff is really friendly. Our Uber was running late and they asked us to wait inside even though they were closing. This is only the second time I've been here in the past three years but I used to come at least once a month. Kids...COVID... Anyway, let's start with the Boba. Little guy didn't want any real food today--just a smoothie--so he picked out the Blueberry Pineapple smoothie with Strawberry popping bobas, which we all liked. I'm more of a green-smoothies-at-home and avocado-with-black-tapioca-balls-when-I'm-out kinda guy, but this was good. We all enjoyed it as soon as he was full but until then, this typically generous kid wasn't sharing the boba tea. He liked it that much. Made with real tamarind instead of peanut butter, the chicken pad thai here is excellent. I haven't eaten out enough in the past year to rate it against other establishments, but three years ago it was the only pad thai I'd eat on the East Bank. Still good today--better than I remembered, not as good as my wife remembered, so...a wash. As good. The chicken green curry is my wife's favorite dish here and it did not disappoint. The chicken satay was not as good as it used to be. The chicken was a little tough today--it's usually delightfully moist and tender--but the flavor was still excellent, and the sweet chili sauce with fresh cucumber is amazing. The service was very nice. Their Thai tea was so delicious! I added the brown sugar jelly in it, and it made the flavor even better! For the food that I ate, I ordered the Royal Spaghetti, but it was not the best as they added too much oil to the meal; however, maybe this just comes to my preference and the fact that I just simply chose the wrong dish. The dishes that the rest of my cousins ate looks better than mines, so I won't judge too harshly. As for the decor, it's not aesthetic and trendy, but the customer service made up for it. DINE IN: This little spot is close to where I live so I have been wanting to try it. Its a very small, unassuming restaurant located in a small building that you could easily overlook. I was greeted immediately and allowed to sit anywhere since it was still fairly early for dinner. I went for my favorite go to...Pad Thai with shrimp. It did not disappoint. The flavor was great, shrimp were a nice size, and I didn't wait long to receive it. The crowd did pick up..made me a bit nervous as I did see a couple of people walk in without masks..they appeared to be regulars..still no excuse bc there was a sign posted that saif masks were required to enter. We have been coming here on a steady basis since they opened over 6 years ago. Sometimes, just my wife and I and others times with as many as a dozen friends (we always let them know when the group is that large). I have probably tried everything on the menu by now. Lately I tend to order the different curry dishes with an occasional jaunt back to the pad Thai. The food is always great. Service is spot on for a family restaurant. They have a minimal bar so they let us bring our own wine with no corkage fee. We tip well. They are happy. We are happy. read more

Royal Thai is the epitome of hole in the wall. It's located kind of randomly out in Harahan. The curbside appeal is not everything (like at all), but the restaurant is welcoming and cozy once you walk in. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and the food was scrumptious. We ordered 4 different items- royal paper shrimp, tom yum goong, pad kee mow, and the basil eggplant sautéed with chicken (not pictured as I was too excited to try it and forgot to snap a picture). The shrimp came with a sauce, and it was delicious!! Not to mention how cute the presentation looked. The tom yum goong (soup dish) is perfect for a cold, muggy say. It's just sour enough with plentiful aromatics. However, if you're not a cilantro girlie like me, maybe see if you can do without. It's not too overpowering, but her presence is known. The drunken noodles were LOVELY!! The flavor and sauce and veggies did not come to play. For the sautéed eggplant with chicken, the eggplant really tied it all together as it soaked up the flavors and spices. I'd order everything again it was perfectly satisfying. Regarding price, it's not the cheapest- our 4 items were a total of $50. But definitely try this out if you're looking for authentic Thai food!!! read more

I eat here about weekly, and have been for many years. Very nice staff. My favorite is the red curry - I like to get extra veggies or extra chicken but hold the rice. Good value, and nice sized lunch serving. They get crowded some days for lunch so I try to get there before or after the rush. read more

We really like this place. My girlfriend has eaten here for years I'm new to it and Thai food. Sorry I have no pictures to provide but the food tends to start disappearing as the boxes start opening at the house!! The inside is such a cute little dinner date spot and yes the inside is open for dine in. The staff is so sweet and happy you're there whether for pickup or dining in. The royal dip was different. Meat with type of sweet sauce on it with chips. Some of us enjoyed it. Some of us thought it was just OK but nothing special. Pad Thai was not good because it did not have any flavor to it. The noodles were good and the eggs were good, but there was just not much flavor. The green curry with chicken was very tasty And the eggplant was cooked well that was in it. Could've used more sauce and placed in a bowl with the rice on the side but very good one of the best curries I've had. The basil fried rice was very good. This was the best thing we had I believe. Came here for lunch and was pretty disappointed. We must've went on a bad day because a lot of reviews said the service was quick. Sadly, it wasn't for us. Good thing we weren't on a lunch break like others around us. We were seated promptly but everything else took way too long. From ordering to the time our food were served, we must've waited an hour. We ordered a tom yum soup and fried calamari for appetizers. The soup..the soup was different. I've never tasted one like it. I took two sips and couldn't get myself to finish it. Fried calamari was ok. There were more fried garlic or onion bits than calamari itself. For entrees, we ordered a garlic and black pepper shrimp and a yellow curry lamb. Tasted nothing but black pepper on the shrimp dish. That's mainly what you see. I thought they'd cook with it, not sprinkle the entire plate with it. Well, it was much more than sprinkle. It had been a while since I had eaten here. My last experience was not my favorite; I learned not to get the entrees with vegetables instead of meat, bc the sauces and flavors get watered down. However, I have had some great food here- namely the noodle dishes and curries. Today, my husband got the Penang curry with chicken lunch plate and I got the drunken noodle with beef lunch plate. Both were incredibly delicious. We also shared the spicy chicken wings, which were very good but needed a little more sauce. I'm glad I gave them another try, because it reminded me that they have some excellent food, and a clean setting. I will be back! read more

Royal Thai, which sits inconspicuously tucked in a small two-slot building near the end of the confusing Hickory-Dickory alternate universe where some streets are one-way and some "crossing-traffic does not stop", can be easy to miss. The GPS seemed to think the giant pumping station in the neutral ground served Thai. But we found it eventually, and it was worth the quest. Two curries were spot on, with generous blobs of white rice (and they'll give an extra blob if ask nicely). The steamed shrimp dumplings were sublime: fresh, not greasy, served in a steamer on a bed of basil with a light dipping sauce, and sub - lime if you actually squeeze a lime onto them. (We didn't and they were still sublime). Drunken noodles with tofu was perfectly prepared, the tofu cubes crisp outside and marshmallow-ey inside. The Thai tea was described as "not to sweet" but I might as well have asked my fifth grader that question; be ready for cream and sugar if you get it (it's delicious, but pretty heavy). "Hot" means "nice kick" here, and for all of us, the heat level was optimal. Those who prefer hotter can probably get it. Service was prompt, though it did get a little delayed when we were looking for the check. My party ended up sitting next to friends we had not seen for a decade. The conversation was excellent but I must confess my attention drifting a bit to ogle their dishes, as they looked as good as ours. (I regret not asking for a taste). This Thai ranks with the more famous places located mostly Uptown. Highly recommended. read more

So the first time I came here I had a great experience but I ordered again from them last night and it was like I ordered from a completely different restaurant. We got the honey basil chicken again. The portion was much smaller and there was no chicken. It was literally just fried breading (see photos). We took a couple of bites and had to throw it away. It also looked really different from the first time I ordered it. We had the Royal dip, sate, egg rolls and dumplings to start and massaman curry, pad Thai, and pak see yew (?) for the entree. It was all sooo good. Royal Thai has easily become my favorite restaurant in New Orleans! The food is consistently amazing (haven't had a meal that I didn't love), the prices are affordable, and the people working are always the sweetest! Seriously...the woman always remembers me and what I order AND even reminded me what foods I saw that I wanted the last time I visited (over a month ago). While the first time I tried Royal Thai I mentioned that my food wasn't as spicy as I would have liked (see original post), that has not been an issue since. If you want your food spicy, just make sure you clarify that you want it really really spicy! However, the flavors are so spot on that I sometimes will just let them make it milder just to get the rich flavors they add in to each dish. My favorites: Drunken noodles with chicken Green or red curry with chicken Honey chicken (fried chicken in this delicious sauce) Lunch specials that are huge portions for around $10?!?!?! Yeah, Royal Thai is located in a strip mall and the atmosphere is plain but the food is so good you'll forget all of that. SERIOUSLY give Royal Thai a chance! This review is based off of my first dine in experience which I have never knew this place existed. I came with a few family members that have been here and they ordered the different dishes that they recommended. Everything came out fairly quick and fresh. Thai food is known for their spice and curry flavors which were on point at this restaurant. All of the food came out fresh, hot and very flavorful. It was about 5 of us together which came out to be about $125 all together which was a typical dinner meal which included a few drinks. I haven't tried any of the dessert items due to being stuffed from dinner, but will definitely stop by this place again when I'm feeling like thai food. read more

Overall very impressed with my experience at Royal Thai. The interior was pretty dated but clean. The staff was all super friendly and good at their jobs. The service was astonishing fast, you can tell they have been through a rush hour or two. I sat down and ordered shrimp pad thai. It was brought out within 8 minutes hot and fragrant. The shrimp were large count and cooked perfectly. I strongly recommend asking for and adding some Thai chili oil to your meal, it will add yet another great flavor to an already complex dish. Literally as I finish my last bite and pushed my plate away, the check was delivered and after eating I was paid and out the door within 2 minutes.
