Our server, Cherry, was the sweetest ever -- so helpful, attentive, and genuinely kind. She made us feel welcomed and taken care of from start to finish. I was even checked on by the chef himself, which really says a lot about the level of care and hospitality here. Both the chef and Cherry casually checked in to make sure everything was perfect, and it truly was. The Curry Puffs were TOP TIER. We happened upon this Thai restaurant on a random weeknight and were able to walk in a grab a table for two. I am so glad we did because every dish was flavorful, colorful, and absolutely delicious. My favorite from the night is the som tum platter. It's the perfect sharing plate for those who want to try a variety of flavors and textures in one dish. We were looking for some Thai food in the area and decided to try this place. They were very accommodating to us being vegetarian and we got our two favorite dishes. The flavors of the PaNang as well as the massaman curry were pretty tasty. They also were able to make their fresh rolls with tofu. Their dipping sauce was also good. The service was attentive and friendly. Unfortunately, we were sitting in the direction of the kitchen and the kitchen staff while wearing their gloves were touching their face and also seems to be moving and clearing dishes with the same pair of gloves. Hygienically I do not feel comfortable with what was going on with the kitchen. We did not get sick from this food or anything. We did feel the food really did taste good but not sure we would return again due to cleanliness. Please educate staff about touching things other than food and change gloves. read more

This rating is based on a four star rating for the food, and a two star rating for, shall we say, logistics and service. We needed a reservation for a group. Their website only accommodate up to six, which I understand, but our group was larger. So we made the reservation for six and attempted to call to clarify the number. We also responded to a confirmatory email about the online reservation but never heard back that way. It took at least four calls before we could get through on the phone - might have been more. It rolled over to voicemail when they couldn't/didn't answer, but their voicemail box was full, so there was no way to leave a message! Eventually, after several attempts which was inconvenient, we did get through and we went for dinner. There was no one else there when we were there. So we got menus, and placed our orders. The problem was that the food for our group came out over about 15 minutes. So some people who got their food early and waited to be polite, until the food was cold. So eventually others said, go ahead and eat. Eventually, theirs came but we ate in shifts. That's really not cool! I'll also say that they were completely unable to accommodate one person in our group who is gluten-free / celiac. That's quite unusual according to that person for a Thai restaurant as they have eaten Thai before with gluten-free confidence. The person who answered the phone seemed pretty unfamiliar with gluten restrictions. But eventually they determined that Everything they serve pretty much is apparently marinated in soy sauce, which is not allowed on that diet. So the gluten restricted person was basically unable to eat anything and only had a drink. The food itself was good like it has been when we've been there before. Curry, the noodle dishes, the salads, etc. all quite good except for one noodle dish served to one person that had pork in it. He said it was pretty bad - tough and did not taste great. We like to support locally owned businesses specially small ones. I think there are some logistical issues here that need to be addressed. Really is no reason to have a voicemail that is filled, and they need to serve a group as a group. We will go back as the food is good. Maybe it was just a bad week. read more

Initially, the ambience and vibe of Pomelo are very bland. Little to no decor and white walls. But maybe that's because all the fun and vibrancy was on the plate!!!! The food was GREAT!!!! The flavor in every single dish had my jaw on the floor. I don't know how they packed so much punch in their curries but....WOW. Service was also good. Our server wasn't very talkative or responsive but when one of our dishes came out cold, she immediately brought us back a hot one. Took my family to celebrate my son's graduation. We had a party of 8 so I understand that the bill will come with an added gratuity. The food was delicious and the portions were big. My family had been to the restaurant several times when we visited my son in New Orleans so we had to go here one last time as I am not sure when we'll be back in New Orleans again. Here is the disappointing part. When we got the bill, the total was around $260 including tip. I saw on the bottom of the bill that there will be a credit card fee if you use credit card. My aunt handed the server 3 $100 bills and the server said "we don't have change." We ended finding smaller bills from other people in the group, but if you are going to charge the customers credit card fee, then there should be change available to customers. My previous times eating at the restaurant, I had never received a paper bill. I was shown the food charges on their hand-held device so I was not aware of the credit card fee then unless they just recently added. read more

The food is simply amazing and though the space is small and intimate, it's comfy and welcoming. Of course I had the Khao Soi seafood and a Thai tea. We went out for early dinner on a cold night and some good Thai sounded good. It has a small dining room and we were first there. They seem to do a great carry out business. This was really good Thai food and felt homemade. We split the papaya salad w shrimp and the Tom Yum soup to start. Both were home runs. I would have licked the salad's plate (maybe I did) and soup was great. We then had a noodle combo green curry dish that was just ok. The menu veers more towards noodle dishes than stir fry but off my first visit this felt like the real deal for Thai. If you are looking for some fresh, delicious Thai, look no further! Pomelo is a quaint little spot right on Magazine Street. They have a few tables to sit outside and a few inside but you can also order takeout if you aren't luckily to snag a table. While they don't offer any alcohol on their menu, they are more than happy to accommodate BYOB. I have been here a few times but recently dined with my coworkers during a work trip, when everyone was too tired to fight through French Quartet crowds and had had enough Cajun food. I ordered the green curry at Pomelo and the flavor was excellent. It was rich, aromatic, and really delicious. The only downside was that it came out at room temperature and wasn't warm at all, which took away from the experience a bit. Pomelo was a truly elevated Thai food experience that wasn't just superior versions of the classics but unique dishes that expanded the horizons of the cuisine. Not only was there an entirely separate vegetarian menu, but that menu was clearly designed with that diet in mind. Usually, if vegetarian dishes even exist, they are just afterthoughts or versions of the meat dishes lazily omitting the meat (and probably not omitting the fish sauce). Our server was able to confirm that my Vegetable and Tofu Laab salad was made without fish sauce and it was delicious. The tofu was perfectly coated in a dressing that I literally slurped up and the vegetables were well-roasted where often they are unfortunately al dente. The space itself is stylish and quaint, bearing no semblance to the gaudy and loud design of nearby tourist traps. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive, but wasn't able to name the ingredients or confirm the lack of fish sauce in my dish without two trips back to the kitchen. I appreciated the due diligence but given the thoughtfulness in having a vegetarian menu, the waitstaff should also have better awareness of its specifics. The portion was also a little small and left me wanting more, but otherwise I have no notes. This is the kind of place I wish we could bring back to the Bay with us. read more

I ordered the salmon tsuke, spicy wontons, and chicken satay. The salmon tsuke was amazing and fresh, the dipping sauce paired perfectly with it. I was not a fan of the mint garnish. The spicy wontons were really good, but I didn't like the sauce paired with it. However, I did use the sauce from the salmon which was better. Lastly, the chicken satay was amazing!! What a fantastic place!!! We were recently in Thailand and the food at Pomelo is the closest that we have found to truly authentic Thai. We loved every dish we tried and we are looking forward to going back. They had this amazing appetizer of grilled sausages... they were exactly what we would eat at a night market in Chiang Mai. We also had the chicken satay; that was slightly different, but really tasty and the sauce was to die for. We tried a few more dishes and it does not disappoint. The only thing that I felt they missed out was Mango and Sticky rice (how could you not have it) and Tom Kha Kai (which is our favorite Thai food) but they had Tom Yum which was really good. So for the missing dishes and slightly different chicken I give them a 9 out of 10! The place is small and cozy and it's BYOW. read more

In Seattle we are fortunate enough to have countless Thai restaurants. Generally they are good and menus are similar and it's sort of expected. For example, it would probably be ill-advised not to serve phad thai. So Pomelo was a wonderful surprise since much on the menu was unique! Flavors bursts in every bite. Everything cooked perfectly. The waitstaff was friendly and atmosphere was pleasant. The word "boutique" is not an accident; they are going for differentiation from the fray and I suspect they have achieved this.
