We visited the Royale on 1/30 for the Mayer Hawthorne show. After reading some of the reviews, we decided to head over early and wait in line just in case the show was sold out and/or staff at the door was limited (as other reviewers noted it could take a long time to get inside). We arrived at 6:30 pm and there were maybe 6 people waiting. Doors were supposed to open at 7 pm. Doors actually opened around 7:10, and from that point, everything about the experience was easy: we showed ID to get a wrist band for drinks; we had our tickets on our phone and the QR code was scanned by a woman at the door; there was no coat check, but the concert had not sold out, so a lot of people were just stashing their coats behind couches or behind curtains - we chose to keep ours with us. Bar was open and drinks were relatively cheap - a single scotch on the rocks and a juice-forward mocktail were $23 with tip. That's less than we usually pay at bars. There was no drink minimum (as noted by other reviewers), but maybe that depends on the event. The opening act started around 7:30 and played over an hour (it was a DJ duo, Chulita Vinyl Club), and then we waited another 30 or so minutes for the main act. Mayer Hawthorne was on the stage for approx 70 min with the show ending between 10:30 and 10:45 pm. The sound system, lights, etc were all great. We could see and hear everything perfectly and enjoyed the show. The only thing we would have liked was the option to go up to the second level and watch the show from above, but for some reason the upstairs was all closed off. Details in the other reviews were very helpful in finding this place as the sign is very small. We ubered over and back (from Somerville) and that was also easy and affordable (less for the round trip than parking across the street would have been). Also worth noting is that the theatre district is right on the edge of China Town, and there are a bunch of casual restaurants nearby if you head down for dinner before hand. On the same street as the venue were 3 places to eat, and at the top of Tremont and Stuart, there were another 5 to choose from, plus just another block or so and you're in the heart of China Town. We would definitely see a show there again!

Royale is abso-freaking-lutely the place to be on a Saturday night on Labor Day weekend!! It's a large space with cool stage and props. The dance floor close to the stage does get crowded but there's plenty of space to dance freely around too. Plus there's an upper level with a cool view. We did SpotHero parking in a nearby garage and so it was convenient to get to. They gave us glow sticks when we entered so it was fun to hold them up while dancing. Good hopping music by the DJ. There was an aerialist doing acrobatics in the middle plus dancers and also a teddy bear on stage and some dressed up people on stilts. Overall a cool fun time!

First time here was on Friday to see Cascada. Line was long but it moved fast. Security here is 5 stars! They were polite and respectful I loved how they were on their A game it made me feel safe. I got a sangria at the bar and it was delicious, bartender was quick I didn't wait long at all for a drink and that place was packed. All the employees were so nice and giving ppl compliments. I liked the vibe of the club and I would definitely come here again and bring friends.

Asked for a tequila sunrise, got something else?? $13 each

I've been here twice so far, both for events where you RSVP ahead of time to get in for free before a certain time. The lines get ridiculously long. The first time it became uncertain whether we'd be able to get through the door on time, but luckily staff members went through the line to check everyone's ticket so that even if you got to the door past the "free window" you still didn't have to pay. The second time I came they just didn't even bother checking people's tickets, so the line moved fast enough that everyone who RSVPed got in on time anyway. The coat check lines are even longer than the line outside. The coat check is $3 but it's $3 per item. Even if you're checking in two coats, but one coat is thinner and tucks into the other, you should expect to pay $6. The drinks here are super expensive so you should try to pregame if you can. However the lines are so long that you might be sober by the time you're actually ready to dance... There is a 2 drink minimum if you want to pay with card. A small margarita was $11... I ordered a tequila sunrise but the bartender made me something completely different and it was $13. The guys here are really thirsty. If you're looking for attention then this is a pretty good place for that. If you don't want too much attention then make sure you come with friends who can look out for each other. This doesn't guarantee that you won't get groped by some random person though. I've said a lot of negative things about this place, but at the end of the day, the crowd is big, the venue is big, and I somehow still end up having a lot of fun when I come. Also can't say no to free cover.

We came 2 hours early and got a great spot front and center.

What is the average age at this venue?

Depends on the event but the clubs tends to be folks in their 20s.

For a DJ concert that states "doors open 7 PM show 8 PM", what time does the main act actually happen?

It depends on the act. If there is an opening act, like a DJ before the DJ or a singer/band then the DJ, they could start between 8 and 8:30 and play for 30 to 60 min; then the main act would start between 9 and 9:30. We have been to concerts where…

    Is it 18 plus?

Most concerts are 18+, however the nightclub is 21+.

Is there a dance floor for concerts?

Yes, but it depends on how many people are at the show. Even when it's packed usually there is space to dance in the back.

Do they offer a coat check for concerts?

No. The coat check in was closed for the concert I went to. And the previous time I went they lost my coat so maybe it's for the best.

Is this a 18 plus club?

We are 21+ for our nightclub. For concerts we are 18+

How early should I get there for a concert to be near the stage..doors open at 6?

4:30pm to 5:00pm but it depends on the act. There are coffee shops around if you get there too early.

I am bringing my son to his first show. His favorite singer is Gregory Allen Issakov.I have never been to this venue before so can anyone tell me do people ever line up outside so they can get right next to the stage? He wants to be right up there?

It depends on the performer but yes. You can usually get there 30 mins after doors and be nearish the stage but if you want to be up front you should arrive early and then be prepared to stand around for a while.

    Age limit Saturday Nights?

Our nightclub is strictly 21+ Concert are usually 18+

Do Royale allow under 21, 18+?

Only for certain concerts and events but normally weekends are 21+

Is there free cover for girls on Saturday's?

    Girls enter free before 10PM.

A friend recommended it to me as a fun place to dance salsa and bachata. I didn't know there were places like this in Boston. We went in and paid a cover fee at first. They start off with a class to teach basic techniques. It gave everyone a welcome feel to learn the steps and practice dancing with others. Then they open the floor for everyone to come in and dance. You are more relaxed at that point because you have learned the steps and already danced with most of the people there. It was great to meet several girls that I probably wouldn't have even talked to without the class. I love bachata so it was great to get in the moment again. The price was great for the class and a fun open dance floor afterwards. I enjoyed my time and will definitely be back next week.

It can be pretty tough finding something so good luck. Seating: It's 3 floors of vibes (depending on the day) but this is no hidden gem, if you're looking for a local vibe, check this place out. Vibes: The nice touristy side of Boston, walking distance to a few scenic things. As for the spot, think Irish bar meets full-on nightlife energy. One floor might have karaoke, another has DJs, and another is just people vibing with drinks. It's lively, a little chaotic (in a fun way), and definitely a younger crowd energy. FOOD/DRINKS: Drinks are solid and pretty affordable for Boston, which is always a win. They've got everything from beers and seltzers to margaritas and cocktails.
