We visited the Royale on 1/30 for the Mayer Hawthorne show. After reading some of the reviews, we decided to head over early and wait in line just in case the show was sold out and/or staff at the door was limited (as other reviewers noted it could take a long time to get inside). We arrived at 6:30 pm and there were maybe 6 people waiting. Doors were supposed to open at 7 pm. Doors actually opened around 7:10, and from that point, everything about the experience was easy: we showed ID to get a wrist band for drinks; we had our tickets on our phone and the QR code was scanned by a woman at the door; there was no coat check, but the concert had not sold out, so a lot of people were just stashing their coats behind couches or behind curtains - we chose to keep ours with us. Bar was open and drinks were relatively cheap - a single scotch on the rocks and a juice-forward mocktail were $23 with tip. That's less than we usually pay at bars. There was no drink minimum (as noted by other reviewers), but maybe that depends on the event. The opening act started around 7:30 and played over an hour (it was a DJ duo, Chulita Vinyl Club), and then we waited another 30 or so minutes for the main act. Mayer Hawthorne was on the stage for approx 70 min with the show ending between 10:30 and 10:45 pm. The sound system, lights, etc were all great. We could see and hear everything perfectly and enjoyed the show. The only thing we would have liked was the option to go up to the second level and watch the show from above, but for some reason the upstairs was all closed off. Details in the other reviews were very helpful in finding this place as the sign is very small. We ubered over and back (from Somerville) and that was also easy and affordable (less for the round trip than parking across the street would have been). Also worth noting is that the theatre district is right on the edge of China Town, and there are a bunch of casual restaurants nearby if you head down for dinner before hand. On the same street as the venue were 3 places to eat, and at the top of Tremont and Stuart, there were another 5 to choose from, plus just another block or so and you're in the heart of China Town. We would definitely see a show there again!

Royale is abso-freaking-lutely the place to be on a Saturday night on Labor Day weekend!! It's a large space with cool stage and props. The dance floor close to the stage does get crowded but there's plenty of space to dance freely around too. Plus there's an upper level with a cool view. We did SpotHero parking in a nearby garage and so it was convenient to get to. They gave us glow sticks when we entered so it was fun to hold them up while dancing. Good hopping music by the DJ. There was an aerialist doing acrobatics in the middle plus dancers and also a teddy bear on stage and some dressed up people on stilts. Overall a cool fun time!

First time here was on Friday to see Cascada. Line was long but it moved fast. Security here is 5 stars! They were polite and respectful I loved how they were on their A game it made me feel safe. I got a sangria at the bar and it was delicious, bartender was quick I didn't wait long at all for a drink and that place was packed. All the employees were so nice and giving ppl compliments. I liked the vibe of the club and I would definitely come here again and bring friends.

We came 2 hours early and got a great spot front and center.

Great venue in the heart of Downtown Boston. Bar in the back and huge space for concerts. Lots of parking areas but beware that some have a 4 hour limit while others have 2 hour max. We were there for BoyWithUke and it was awesome.

Asked for a tequila sunrise, got something else?? $13 each

    Ask the Community - Royale

What is the average age at this venue?

Depends on the event but the clubs tends to be folks in their 20s.

For a DJ concert that states "doors open 7 PM show 8 PM", what time does the main act actually happen?

It depends on the act. If there is an opening act, like a DJ before the DJ or a singer/band then the DJ, they could start between 8 and 8:30 and play for 30 to 60 min; then the main act would start between 9 and 9:30. We have been to concerts where… Read more

    Is it 18 plus?

Most concerts are 18+, however the nightclub is 21+.

Is there a dance floor for concerts?

Yes, but it depends on how many people are at the show. Even when it's packed usually there is space to dance in the back.

Do they offer a coat check for concerts?

No. The coat check in was closed for the concert I went to. And the previous time I went they lost my coat so maybe it's for the best.

Is this a 18 plus club?

We are 21+ for our nightclub. For concerts we are 18+

How early should I get there for a concert to be near the stage..doors open at 6?

4:30pm to 5:00pm but it depends on the act. There are coffee shops around if you get there too early.

I am bringing my son to his first show. His favorite singer is Gregory Allen Issakov.I have never been to this venue before so can anyone tell me do people ever line up outside so they can get right next to the stage? He wants to be right up there?

It depends on the performer but yes. You can usually get there 30 mins after doors and be nearish the stage but if you want to be up front you should arrive early and then be prepared to stand around for a while.

    Age limit Saturday Nights?

Our nightclub is strictly 21+ Concert are usually 18+

Do Royale allow under 21, 18+?

Only for certain concerts and events but normally weekends are 21+

Is there free cover for girls on Saturday's?

    Girls enter free before 10PM.

There was freaking aerial acrobatics and the lighting is actually good, even the smoke machine was tasteful.

We walked into a space where the walls are covered with photos of artists and music memorabilia, while dim lighting, packed tables, and frequent live performances give the restaurant a distinctly neighborhood feel. Whether stopping in for a casual drink or staying for an evening of music, the experience centers around the performances happening just a few feet away. The menu leans heavily into Irish pub comfort food with generous portions and hearty classics. We tried the Guinness Beef Stew and the Shepherd's Pie, both of which delivered rich flavors and exactly what you would expect from a solid Irish restaurant. Other popular items on the menu include curry fries, clam chowder, burgers, and traditional pub fare designed to pair naturally with a pint. The comfort food favorites consistently stand out, while opinions on some other menu items may vary. Service is friendly and welcoming, even on busy nights when the venue fills up for performances. The staff handles both diners and music crowds with ease, helping maintain a relaxed atmosphere despite the constant activity. Live entertainment is clearly a major part of the identity here, with regular performances ranging from Irish sessions and jazz to open mic nights and other local acts. For a neighborhood pub near Berklee that delivers on both hearty Irish food and live music, The Bebop offers a warm, energetic experience built around community and performance.

Ribs perfect, glad they were meaty pieces and not scrawny bones. Entrees: (and yes I tried all!) I am a steak fiend and was expecting more from the pallet but it was just eh OK. Salmon was dry and bland wish it was paired with a sauce and side dish but it was a big portion of just rice and fish. The BEST dish was the creole pasta and the two piece. I was not expecting that two piece to be the entire fowl! It was huge and tasty, not dry, biscuit was sweet and moist ! But the entrees are a good portion ! Ambience: Chic music lounge. Atmosphere is nice. It's a small/tight place, the pictures make it look bigger. We were a party of 6, sat at a booth. So some will have their back towards the stage but there's a tv screen of live view. Service: waitress was nice/attentive until it got later. Then it was harder to get someone to our table. the place turned more into a full lounge. Singer/band: perfect Drinks- kudos to the bar tenders: just right! Mixed well! After our night out, we all had mixed feelings about our experience. The interior is beautiful. It's classy and fun setting the scene for a nice vibe. service was nice but slow, we needed to flag down our waiter a couple times so we could order food. Some of the things we ordered were the fried catfish nuggets, braised oxtails, Mac and cheese and steak frites. Fried catfish bites were okay, the oxtail dish was tender but too sweet, Mac and cheese was standard and the steak was dry. I never mind paying top dollar for amazing dishes but these weren't it for us. Drinks were good though and the music was great. I'd suggest coming just to listen to a great live band and a nightcap.
