Is there such a thing as foodie fate because there should be. Upon my first visit to Harrisonburg I knew, in seeking out a supper spot, I had a few requirements. It has to be local. Always. It has to be something I know I like. New cities are not the time to be experimenting with unfamiliar cuisine (unless it is hyper local). And it needs to be outdoors. I mean what's the point of venturing all the way into Viriginia (from Georgia) and not appreciating the cooler temperatures? And per usual, I turned to Yelp to guide me. One of the first places to pop up was Urgie's. Cheesesteak, outdoor seating, and Route 11 potato chips?! I knew this was the place. And the result? We're truckers so we stopped by one late night to order burgers. People were nice but we ordered 2 medium cooked burgers. I took my first bite and instantly knew something was off and threw it away. My partner was extremely hungry so he ate the entire burger. Within 1 hour of our drive back on the road we had to pull over and he's tossing his cookies. Went here around noon on a Sunday. The restaurant was empty when we got in, but filled up quickly as we dined. You can order with a server or via a QR code. Parking is limited to parallel parking spots across from the restaurant, as the parking lots next to it are reserved for the law firms (seriously? why do they even need that much parking). Ambiance is funny but welcoming, lots of hilarious signs and decorations around the shop. We ordered via QR code, and I wasn't able to do more than one modification to the plain jane cheesesteak, so I instead got a burger with lettuce, tomato, sautéed onions, and pickles. The patty was HUGE! It was as if I had 1 1/2 burgers worth of meat. The meat was juicy and hit the spot. Fries are crispy and have a tasty cajun seasoning. Had to come here again and give them another shot. I had planned on coming back later but after one of the owners, Tommy, reached out to me, I decided to come back sooner. I have to say this was an amazing experience. One of, if not the best cheesesteak I've had in my life. I wanted to be able to compare to the first time I went so I got takeout again, but it was so good I couldn't even tell it was takeout. There was a perfect amount of cheese and the meat was cooked really well and filled up the cheesesteak pretty well. There was a perfect amount of onions as well as peppers which gave it a good kick. I am glad to have given this place another chance and will surely be back again to get the Philly Special. Tony and I went to get a "Great Cheese steak" and the food was Great. I was a little surprised that there was NO designated parking for the restaurant. We went in and opted to eat inside the restaurant instead of the outside dining area. The outside dining was nice with tables and overhead roof. Inside was nicely air conditioned. There was about 4 tables with bar stool seating. Full bar and Tony's favorite PBR on tap We ordered the Urgie's Special 12" Cheese Steak Hoagie with Route 11 Chips and we ordered Peorgies with fried onions and sour cream. The food was very good. We shared everything. I asked for BBQ sauce for my sandwich but didn't need it. The sandwich was very spicy. First time with Pepperoni on cheese steak but it was good We would definitely eat here again and recommend to others! Great atmosphere Great friendly staff and great food! One of our favorite places to eat!! These cheese steaks are the best I have ever had in Virginia. Anything on the menu is amazing and they have good happy hour specials. I always get the 'hat-trick' but everything is good. I would recommend adding the whiz on any of the sandwiches. They just expanded their dining room so there's a lot more room than before. It does get pretty busy in there so for faster service I would recommend going early. read more

Whatever younger girl with a striped phone case was working this past weekend behind the smaller side bar was so beyond rude. This whole weekend talking about this multiple people have said they've had awful experiences with her. She gave my girlfriend a half full drink because she asked for a vodka water and my girlfriend laughed and said where's the rest of it and she said get it yourself (talking about the jug of water halfway across the bar) how was anyone supposed to know to fill the rest? And it was in the most obnoxious tone and my girlfriend laughed and said well that was kind of rude and she said leave then so we walk away and she got a bouncer to find her to kick her out. Fully sober. So entitled especially since we're huge eagles fans and come to this bar every weekend and for almost every game. And his beautiful coat black friendly dog and two other men we accidentally crashed a meeting!! Not knowing it until a salesman came inside the place had some good small talk and then Tommy said McKenzie would take care of Us! And she definitely did!!! customer service was great we talked about the area she told us stuff is always poppin downtown and the best times to beat the huge crowds and find good parking is 2:30-3:00pm. We ordered the Special Cheesesteak it was like 3 types of cheeses! let me tell you they FILL the cheesesteaks uppp with Meat!! & it's NOTHING taste or texture like the ones from the dc Carryouts!!... you can t even eat one half because it's so filling overall !! So I took my other half home literally.. McKenzie was time to clock out and we Met Ryan!!! he was nice and small talk but just as engaging as everyone else we met!!! My son and I got the Urgie Cheesesteak Special which was one of their largest sandwiches with everything on it. You get your choice of cheese ... including "Whiz" which is the must have. The smaller sandwiches are tasty as well. If you have room for fries, their fries with garlic topping is delish. There is a large outside seating area with tables next to the cooking area which is a big food trailer. They also have an indoor bar with a good selection of beers. I was really excited to try this as a Philly cheesesteak lover. We waited in the outdoor area as the inside was really busy. The food took a really long time to come out. Someone also stole my cheesesteak because the cashier called the wrong name and nobody really cared so the vibes were off. For the cheesesteak, the steak was really peppery and not my favorite. I'd personally rather make my own cheesesteak and save a lot more money. Too expensive ($11) for the quality and amount that you get. They also added barbecue sauce to the Buffalo chicken cheesesteak. Not sure if it was a mistake or if they just make really weird Buffalo sauce. All in all, would come back in a pinch but definitely wouldn't rush back. read more

I had shredded cheddar at home, so I used that. Be careful ordering their hot peppers on your steak, they are HOT! I love spice and peppers. These were just about too hot for me. It was way too hot for my husband. I split my sandwich with him, he had already had eaten earlier, he decided after the food arrived he wanted a second dinner. The servings are so huge it easily feeds 2-3 adults. I could only eat 1/4 of the sandwich and my husband could only eat 1/2. I ordered their regular size. Their fries were excellent. Came here on a cold, Saturday night with my friend. I ordered a chicken cheesesteak and a side of fries while my friend got the Hatrick. It was super cold but the inside was full so we sat outside. It took a bit for our cheesesteaks to come. My friend liked her cheesesteak but I thought my chicken cheesesteak was just okay (basically what you would expect chicken covered with cheese in a sandwich would taste like). The fries did not come out at all but I decided to wait until we were done eating to check up on it because it took a bit for our sandwiches to come out, so maybe it just took a while to fry them up. I met my nephew here for lunch when I was in town for a work meeting. We met at around 1215. There is outdoor seating and indoor seating. This place appears to be a food truck that is butted up to a building for the interior seating which is a pretty cool idea. The outdoor seating area was very nice and the lady working the register/taking orders was very nice and personable. Unfortunately, that is about all the of pros I can list. When we got there, there were about 4 people at the outdoor seating area and a few inside. However, it took about 40 min for us to get a cheesesteak sandwich. Keep in mind this is a cheesesteak place and we did not order anything off the wall. Cheesesteak sandwich with provolone and mushrooms. We also ordered fries which came out about 8-10 min prior to the sandwiches... which we were grateful for because we had gotten pretty hungry. THe cheesesteaks were ok. In addition, parking is a bit of a challenge. There is no parking except street parking. Fortunately, the road behind the place has spaces for 2 hour parking and there were several empty ones when I got there... so as long as you know where to look, it may not be an issue. WIth lots of other places in Harrisonburg and my infrequent visits there... I doubt I will go back. read more

Urgie's is just getting better and better! Urgie's now features multiple entrees, and delectable sides and appetizers. One of my personal faves are the tots, they are perfectly crisp on the outside, and it is tender and tasty on the inside. I am already a huge fan of Urgie's, but I have some suggestions. My family drinks a lot of tea, and the lemonade they sell could make a perfect Arnold Palmer. I am also a fan of the new television in the building, as it is perfect for showing the big game. All in all, Urgie's is a perfect place to watch the big football game, or just to hang out and grab a drink. I know Urgie's will keep growing, and I will always look at Urgie's as my first location to grab a bit to eat on a weekend. read more

Philly steak with provolone, mushrooms, and green peppers was just good. Not enough meat and really no spicing would be my biggest complaints.
