We had our first Akita from a different breeder and she was the best friend one could have. Tora passed at the age of 10 years.. We mourned for a couple of years, but we missed having loving loyal dogs so we found Royal Akitas. Our Akitas are now 2 years old and so we decided this is a good time to do a review for the Breeder Don. We went to his home and he was very welcoming. We sat in his office and he showed us all his dogs on the computer then took us to his dog kingdom. Such beautiful Akitas and all very well taken care of, he explained as we walked around which of the dogs were female and pregnant/ ready to give birth and so on. We stated that we did not want an Alpha, because we are a family and want to share our love with our akita. Don, let us pick which ever dog we wanted, but suggested based on what we wanted which of the litter would be best for us. Well/...it's been two years now and I have to say we LOVE our doggies one is male and one is female and they are so good with people and children not other dogs, but then again we've spent a lot of time socializing them to humans. Such great temperaments on our dogs and so loving even to strangers that walk into our house. I wish we can get another one now from Don Royalty Akitas because I know his breed and I know we will not be disappointed. I am very happy about my boy Kuma ( which I named after his father) " Bear " and my girl Luna after a female Akita Don had who was such a happy and energetic girl and also loved Don so much! Anyone who has had the privilege of owning an Akita knows they have no equal. Loving, loyal, protective and beautiful; they are also playful, silly goofballs with a curious and engaging demeanor annnnnd a touch...or two... of stubbornness. 2022 marks our 29th year of owning Akitas and we've run the gambit of the good, the bad and the ugly. Through the years we've experienced aggression, chronic skin conditions and tragic hip dysplasia all from dogs from different breeders here in the US and from Canada. Finally...we experienced perfection in our beloved Tiko and Sabi who we recently had to say goodbye to. Both were from Royalty Akitas and lived long, happy, healthy lives and were a joy to our family. Everyone who has lost a beloved dog knows the pain is brutal and each one leaves his or hers mark on your heart forever. The loss of companionship leaves a huge void and, given we live on a farm, I also missed the sense of security and protection they naturally gave me and our daughter when my husband and son were off the property. So, after some time, we decided to look into getting another dog. Though Tiko and Sabi can never be replaced, we knew, after years of living with the proof of his dedication to the excellence of the breed in both health and temperament that we would be going back to Don. When I contacted Don, we discussed what we were looking for and he told me he was expecting puppies in early March. We paid for our puppies not only sight unseen but also unborn, lol. That might seem a little odd to some but I hope it serves to convey the trust I have in this man. I also asked him to pick our puppies for us based on our discussions. Picking a puppy is often an emotional decision and after having Akitas for so many years I've learned that health and temperament are the most important factors and, after Tiko and Sabi, I knew Don could be counted on to make the best choice for us. Once the litters were born and some weeks had passed Don called me and we went over a few different puppies before finally deciding on a boy and girl out of Nikki and Bear. (If you ever get the opportunity to meet Bear...do so! He looks like his name and has a PHENOMENAL personality) On May 18th, we picked up our puppies and they've been a joy ever since. We've been integrating them into 'farm life' to set their boundaries with our other animals and getting used to all the activities and distractions that come with being on a farm. They both have amazing temperaments but as they get older, their distinct personalities are coming through. Koto (Austin) is a big, sweet, lumbering, lummox who lives for hugs and kisses and Meeka (Trixie) is our beautiful, troublemaker always trying to get her brother into trouble but who still manages to look adorable with a shoe in her mouth. They are both perfectly perfect. Finally, I would like to say something about Don, himself. I know there are a number of reviews that mention his 'demeanor'. It is true that Don can be brusque and may even seem rather arrogant but people need to understand it's nothing personal and rather than feeling affronted should be appreciative of the fact that Don has spent decades developing his line of Akitas and his commitment to his dogs and their wellbeing is of paramount importance to him. Though he may be a 'no nonsense' kind of guy, he won't hesitate to share with you his wealth of knowledge about Akitas and that knowledge, along with his love and devotion to his dogs, is truly what matters when deciding upon a breeder and is of the greatest benefit to those fortunate to have one of his dogs. Additionally, people should also respect the fact that Royalty Akitas is his livelihood and he has a right to operate his business in a way that provides him stability and security. If he wants a sizable deposit or payment in full depending upon the case then you as a buyer need to decide how much you want a dog. All I can say is Royalty Akita's are bred with love and knowledge. I contacted don as I'd been stalking reviews and his website knowing we would purchase an Akita pup down the line. This is our second Akita. Our first was a beloved member of our household and we knew we had to find a great an excellent breeder for our second. I contacted Don via his website and expressed interest and working knowledge of the breed. He invited us to his home to meet his dogs. I wasn't sure if I wanted to choose one from the newest litter or an older pup. But in came Montana and our entire family fell in love with him! If you love Akita pups you know how especially cute they are but Montana was cute beyond comparison! Not only cute but very well cared for and obviously will grow to be a beautiful dog. Don was so knowledgeable. We took like Montana home that day! Montana became Zeppelin soon after we learned his personality and has become a member of our household. I will add too that our veterinarian (and the entire staff) was so impressed by the health of baby zep and said we were so lucky to find an excellent breeder. I highly recommend Royalty Akitas! Edit: we are awaiting our second addition from Royalty. I wanted to add a phshowing just how wonderful Don's dogs are when raised lovingly and with structure. This was back in 2012. If you are a true Akita Breed dog lover than you need to see these dogs and meet Don. I wasn't sure where to start except to say that my family is beyond happy with Don and our puppy from Royal Akita's. Let me say, that over the last 25 years, my husband and I have always had a pair of dogs (Akita and Rottweiler). This is the pair that has and works with us and our children. This isn't for everyone but it works for us. They live in our house and are family members. Having said that, I wasn't there when my husband and daughter picked our newest addition but I was the one that worked with Don for over a month and I think I was rather a pain in his ass because this is our new forever-family member and he treated me with respect and professionalism. We just adopted an Akita pup from Don @ Royality Akita's , and we couldn't be more ecstatic with our pup. Finding a quality breeder is crucial; especially for the strong willed breed of an Akita....responsible raising and breeding of Akita's will dictate the demeanor and health of your adult dog for years to come. We feel blessed to have found Royality Akita's; Don is strategic at his passion of raising and breeding Akita's, he puts his animals first over the almighty dollar, unlike many greedy breeders. 10 years ago we purchased a female Akita from Petland, we were told she was a purebred and were given certification papers. Her price tag was 2k. After her death, we did some research on where she was born, and we found she came from a puppy mill, and by the size of her very large ears she may have been part German Shepherd. In her 4th year she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and required major surgery which turned into many surgeries. She also had many other health problems that stem from poor breeding. So sad for our Sasha to have to endure many surgeries....it's very emotional to all involved . We spent thousands of dollars to help her life improve not to mention many requested days off from work to help her recuperate from her major surgeries. Over all Sasha cost us about 10k. Sadly we were forced to put her beautiful personality to sleep after just 8 short years, half of which was riddled with illness thanks to shotty and greedy breeding. This experience was agonizing to say the least. The Akita breed is so special, we really wanted another dog to fill the hole in our heart but we dare not dream in fear of the same circumstance happening again. We heard about Royality Akita's through a person who not only adopted one Akita, but went back and got another. He highly recommended Royality Akita's due to his own dogs amazing calm demeanor and physical health. We called and made an appointment to check it out. Our reasoning was, if Royality Akita's was reputable we would consider adopting next year. Well after meeting and talking with the owner, Don, it was clear that we had found a quality breeder.... after physically seeing his ranch with pristine conditions, also meeting the sires and dams we knew we were going to adopt from Royality Akita's, hands down! After we met one of Bears offspring we were now beyond impressed, and adopted Ryker on the spot. Don's pups are worth every penny and then some. IF you're looking for an akita: please do your research! I spent a few years looking and was on the fence deciding if we should purchase from Royalty Akita because it was closer to us than the other breeders. After several conversations early this year with Don, I felt like every phone call was like intruding on his time asking questions. He should be joyfully selling me everything about this breed and I got basic yes and no answers. I also realized that a breeder with that many males and females on the property was not a good sign. Go to PuppyFind.com or similar. I found my girl in Northern California from a very good reputable breeder and have visited their home many times, meeting the parents and hung out there a few hours. They've even came to my home to visit a few months later to say hi! Go to Akita World on Facebook too (private group but you can join). You'll be amazed how much you can learn from other akita owners and get opinions on breeders. There were quite a few owners who purchased their pups from Royalty Akitas and had to euthanize them at an early age due to health issues. IMPORTANT: AKC registered does not mean well bred!!! Ask to see current OFA Certification for Hips & Elbows of both parents. They should be current documents as they are prone for hip dysplasia that is common in akitas. AKC papers mean nothing about health issues. Again, do your research. read more

This "breeder" presents as though they are reputable - the truth is, their older dogs are being sold to puppy mills, where the pieces are left to be picked up by rescues. Do your research before placing money into the hands of these people who willingly ruin this breed. If I could give them a 10 Star review I would! It was Christmas Day and I turned to my wife and said we need to do it now, she said what do we need to do now? I said get a puppy, in the last 20 years we have had 2 Akita's one was given to us through a friend, and the 2nd one was a rescue,we loved both girls. We had to put down our last one in February last year. So we didn't want to replace her right away, so we waited 10 months and called Don at Royalty Akitas my wife had searched the Internet for a few months without me knowing that she started her checking she searched with Akita groups on Facebook and with other breeders. So we spoke to Don for at least a half hour if not longer. We weren't sure about a puppy but we wanted another Akita! After our talk he said I have the right puppy for you, she wasn't my first choice, but he said this is the puppy for you! Since she was six week old she was not ready to ship, to young. We waited a few weeks till she was ready to ship. We got her 3 weeks ago and Don was 100% right this was the dog for us. Don told us what to feed her when to get her next set of shots, and anything we needed to just call. He has done everything he said he was going to do and more. We took Sake to the Vet with a poop sample as well . Clean bill of health. She is a bundle of joy. Our family loves our Akita! I only have good things to say, as Don answered every call and question I had and invited us to his ranch. All the dogs were beautiful and happy and after our "interview" we picked out a male. The process/paperwork was smooth and easy... I'm a bit surprised at some of these negative reviews. Our pup is a year and a half now and a great family member, we try to take him almost every where we go and it's crazy how many people compliment him, not only on his looks (obviously) but his behavior as well. He is still very playful and loves playing nice with my friends and family members trusted dogs (we avoid stranger dogs and dog parks). He gets lots of attention from family but if we need to leave him in the house alone, hes been good and never chewed up the place. Around the house he is so chill (I call him a "cat dog") and likes to do his own thing but once you say "walk?", he's fired up and ready to go. We are so Grateful that we found Royalty Akita's. We got our Mia from Don, and what a BLESSING!! Mia is now 7 months old, and we have now purchased a second Akita, from Don @ Royalty Akitas. We will be able to bring her home in 7/8 weeks. Since we live 20 or so miles from Royalty Akita, we were able to make appointments with Don, to have visits with Mia, before she was able to come home. This was such a precious time for us, because we were able to Mia with her Mommy & Siblings. Don, was able to give us some GREAT advice about Akitas, and we appreciate that. My husband and I were able to see ALL of Dons dogs, and where they are all kept, and he showed us around, which we were grateful for. I've had two Akitas now from Don over the years and his lines keep getting better. We thought our first was exceptional, which he was, but then came our current pup, who defies expectations. Don has always been professional, very helpful in discussing the traits of his breeding pairs, and nothing but helpful. His attention to the health of his dogs is clear. My wife and I have raised 3 Akitas, from different breeders over the past 20 years. Our first one died of Gastric tourchin at 5, we immediately began our search for a new pup, and decided to get 2, a boy and a girl from a different breeder, different litters, but same sire. After almost 12 years, we lost our boy to Gastric tourchin, and 4 months later had to put our girl down due to complications with her hind legs. So, we began our search for our new Akitas! My wife contacted several breeders and was not happy with any of the results, until she called Don at Royalty Akitas! The warmth that we felt from Don on the phone, got us to drive 13 hours round trip from Orange County to Lincoln to see his latest litter! Needless to say, we thought we knew everything we knew about raising these most amazing animals! When we got to his Ranch, which is Akita heaven, our feelings about him and what he does with his litters was confirmed! He had held his Breeder picks for us, based on his trust in us that we would provide the love, care, and attention to his prized pups! He taught us things that we never knew about the little nuances in the raising of Akita's, from diet, timing of feeding, etc. The pictures attached reflect how gorgeous these pups are and their demeanor! We looked at all the reviews on Yelp regarding Don and his breeding, but took it with a grain of salt (the negative ones), and all I can say is that he is the BEST breeder we have EVER encountered, and he will be involved in their lives as they grow to be the most loving, well mannered, and be the poster for what Akita's are! We are most thankful for Don and all he has done for us in willing to provide us with the loves of our lives after the emptiness we were going through! Akitas rule! Review update: Apparently there was some misunderstanding regarding the AKC paperwork. Don reached out and he said he did send out the paperwork, but the email address he had for me was incorrect, because I never recieved it. He states he had to close down his old email, because he was hacked and never recieved further emails from me. Needless to say, he did make an effort to fix the situation, we exchanged current and correct email addresses and I was sent the AKC paperwork for my dog and I have registered her online.
