My family and I visited Roy's on the Friday before Father's Day for a party of 10. One of our dad's favorite restaurants is Roy's so we wanted to go here to celebrate Father's Day with him. However, our visit fell short due to the service (or lack thereof) by our waiter. On multiple occasions, we had to ask the busboy to send our waiter over because we were either out of soda, to take our appetizer order, or to find out where our drinks were at once we placed the order. When asking how much longer for our drinks, we were told by our waiter 'I put the order in. It should probably be ready now.' He was not friendly and was not what I expected at all of a Pebble Beach restaurant. We come somewhat often as we only live 30 minutes down the road so this visit definitely fell short. With our tip already being included in the final price, I feel as though the effort from our waiter was as if his service to our table didn't really matter as he was getting his tip either way. The restaurant was not very busy either so it just seemed like a lack of effort. I would like to recognize the busboy as he was extremely attentive and always made sure to clear our table timely. I feel as though he would make a better waiter than the individual we had. The food was subpar for a restaurant of this caliber. My bento box with butterfish came out cold. My mom & sister-in-law ordered the bento box with salmon and both mentioned how there was a lack of flavor. Our dinner was absolutely incredible! We were so sad when the Roy's by us closed so any time we are near another one we have to stop in. This one is exceptionally beautiful and the ambiance is breathtaking and lovely. Our service was impeccable and the food was beyond delicious! Long on my bookmark list, this restaurant is the only to my knowledge that's still owned by its founder that's on the mainland. Booking a Sunday brunch reservation in mid-September, we arrived a little early so we walked the back of the resort towards the beach and enjoyed the sights and sounds. When we returned and checked in at the hostess stand, we were seated at a long table past the hostess stand and near the window facing the beach. As we studied the menus, we saw a mix of our favorites from their flagship restaurant on Oahu as well as several different menu items. Since we were driving home after this meal, everyone abstained from alcohol but the non-alcohol beverages were interesting. We made a reservation here for a birthday dinner during our visit to Monterey, and it was remembered that we were celebrating a birthday until they gave us the birthday greeting card of the completely wrong person HAHA no harm no foul. Not sure why they had such a bad review rating but we didn't stay overnight. We walked in with a Roy's reservation. There were at least 6 bell boys standing at the entrance greeting guests. The lobby was clean, airy and neat and facing the ocean with a great view. We saw that the glass window side seating were full and asked if we could seat at the lobby outdoor at the firepits. The restaurant told us that the lobby would gladly took care of us and cancelled our reservation without any charges. We had a good time drinking wine and eating chicken wings while seated at the firepit. The staff lit it up when it was cloudy and foggy. The red blend carafes was good and was only $54. The chicken wings were delicious! Freshly fried and very crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside. There's a free water station and the staff checked on us. We had a nice walk towards the shoreline when the sky cleared up a bit as the view of the pebble beach golf course was splendid. My friends and I decided to take a weekend trip to Monterey and Roy's was one of the spots we decided to visit for dinner. Firstly let me say, you absolutely must take some time to stop outside and see the amazingly beautiful and scenic garden area and beach that is connected to the backside of the building! We went around sunset time and it was so lovely seeing the sunset and walking along the pebbled beach. Once you have got your fix of lovely scenery save some appetite for the equally lovely dishes.
