We had an anniversary lunch here yesterday. I was reminded what a great restaurant this is. My wife and I have ate here on a few occasions over the last 10 years. The restaurant is bright with classic contemporary interior design. We requested a window table so we could watch the waves crash 200 feet away, and watch golfers struggle with the tricky 2nd green of the Spanish Bay golf course. It was a perfect table. After ordering a reasonably priced bottle of champagne, we told Brook, our server, that we were going to share 6 dishes. Brook did an amazing job coursing out 2 dishes at a time. He and his crew provided an excellent experience. Food: We started with the Firecracker sushi roll (5/5) and coconut shrimp (5/5). Our next course was the blackened ahi sashimi (5/5) and the crispy calamari (5/5). All 4 seafood dishes were super fresh and prepared flawlessly. Our last course was the BBQ Szechuan pork ribs (4/5) and the chow mein (3/5). The ribs were charred with a sweet Asian glaze. I really enjoyed this dish. The chow mein lacked seasoning and flavor. As an aside, Brook brought us warm wet napkins for our sticky rib fingers...what a great touch. We had a great experience at Roy's. Since we live closer now, we will probably be at Roy's every few months. This is a great date restaurant and I can't wait for my next visit. read more

As a local on the Monterey Peninsula for 24 years we had yet to visit Roy's at Spanish Bay. So many friends recommended Roy's for special occasions and Roy's did not disappoint. It had been one year since my wife's stroke and she is kicking butt so we decided to go big and visit Roy's. We also unwittingly celebrated the founder of Malbon's birthday as well. The sushi was not traditional but it was tasty and FRESH...same goes for the crudo. My duck was bomb and my wife's fish was perfect and she loved it. Dear Roy's Corporate Management, I am writing to formally express my deep disappointment regarding the service my party received at Roy's Pebble Beach, Patio section, on Thanksgiving Day between approximately 3:00-3:30 PM. What should have been a pleasant holiday dining experience turned into a frustrating and upsetting encounter due to the conduct of our assigned server, Tracy. Incident Details * We arrived with my service dog, who briefly barked. I immediately apologized, but Tracy responded by audibly saying "fuck" and shaking her head in disapproval. * Two of our friends placed their orders, while my partner and I requested a few more minutes to decide. Tracy's response was shockingly unprofessional: "If you plan not to order, you have to move to another table." * This rude and arrogant remark left us no choice but to cancel our order entirely. * As we exited, Tracy was standing at the bar speaking with other staff. From about 10 feet away, both my partner and I clearly heard her say: "They better get out of here," obviously referring to us. * When my friend asked her name, she pretended not to hear, laughed sarcastically, and avoided answering. My friend had to check her name plate to confirm her identity. Concerns * Tracy's behavior was not only disrespectful to guests but also demonstrated a lack of basic courtesy and professionalism expected in hospitality. * Her dismissive attitude and inappropriate language suggest this may not be an isolated incident, and I strongly suspect her colleagues may also experience similar treatment. * On a holiday meant to celebrate gratitude and togetherness, her actions were especially disappointing and unacceptable. Request for Action I urge management to review the CCTV footage between 3:30-4:00 PM to verify this incident, specifically Tracy's statement at the bar that "They better get out of here." This footage will confirm the accuracy of our account and highlight the seriousness of her conduct. Tracy's behavior reflects poorly on Roy's reputation for excellence and guest care. I recommend that she be required to undergo immediate retraining in Good Manners and Right Conduct, as well as customer service standards, to ensure she can meet the expectations of both guests and colleagues. Roy's Pebble Beach is known for its world-class setting and service, but this experience was far below the standards your brand represents. Stopped here for breakfast at the beginning of the 17 mile drive. Located inside the hotel on the golf course, this place had a great view! We sat outside to enjoy the view, which later cleared up making the ocean visible by 10:30 am. Our server was also courteous, thoughtful, and kind. I ordered the chorizo huevos rancheros and my husband ordered the ribeye steak and eggs. Huevos rancheros were better than I expected with good flavor and a hint of spice. For $55, the Ribeye was lacking in flavor, quite fatty, and full of tendon. Overall, it was a good experience but minus 2 stars for the price being quite expensive and a basic steak being quite disappointing. I had breakfast at Roy's at Spanish Bay while staying at the Inn. I believe the restaurant was relocated due to renovations, and while there's some signage, it was still a bit confusing. I dined alone and ordered a wellness shot and the avocado toast. The wellness shot was excellent, and the toast and avocado were fresh and flavorful. However, the scrambled eggs were overdone and dry, and the fruit didn't taste quite right. It was like it was washed in something but not fully rinsed. It's definitely on the pricey side, but that's to be expected when staying at the Inn. Overall, a mixed experience--good in parts but could use some improvements on others. read more

Service is excellent here! The location is superb and I'm so glad I finally decided to give it a try. The food was what disappointed us the most. We've been to many Roy's and this one is at the bottom of the list. Presentation of the dishes were a little underwhelming. Hawaii did a much better job. The ribs were a little on the dry side with too much sauce to try to compensate. We ordered the duck and that was cooked perfectly. Hubby's butter fish dish was very salty. A glaze would have been a better choice instead of sitting in a pool of ginger soy sauce. Surprisingly, the portions here are larger than average. Ron (yes Ron, not Roy) made our night! The food was incredible, especially the desserts (but I'm a sweet tooth) We loved the live jazz, and the outdoor seating with fire pits on your table. was visiting monterey for a weekend trip and my aunt took me here for a late birthday treat! it was the perfect sunny day and the food was delicious. i ordered the crab blt and it was unlike anything i've ever tried! i still think about it to this day. even the lettuce that came with it was so flavorful! my bf just ordered the pork belly appetizer and he really enjoyed it. my cousin ordered the burger with bacon and he said it's his favorite burger. i tried some of the fries and they were nice and crispy! my aunt ordered a salad and there were no complaints. the menu had a wide selection-- i would love to come back and try their sushi! we were seated outside and had the most amazing view. i noticed there was no music, it would've added to the ambiance for sure. my only complaint is there was no shade at all, so i wish i would've brought a hat or sunglasses! make sure to put on spf if you're planning to sit outside! i ended my meal with a fabulous bday treat! i the food was great and if course a more expensive dining experience but definitely worth to visit at least once! read more

Roy's is a the Spanish Bay Inn and has gorgeous views. There are large windows to enjoy the ocean and golf course views or you can sit at the patio which has heat lamps for when it's cold. We went on a weekday so it wasn't very very busy. Our server and server's assistant were friendly and checked on us regularly to offer refills and see if we needed anything. We shared their fried rice and bento special. Both were delicious, the fried rice had some unique flavors and the butter fish was decadent. I was there celebrating a birthday and they provided a free dessert which was great. It was a chocolate cake with coconut ice cream. Will definitely return. read more

After an afternoon round of golf at Spyglass Hill, my wife and I rushed over to Roy's to see the sunset bag piper. Luckily we caught the last few minutes. We immediately realized we were hungry and were lucky enough to get seated at Roy's right away. We had the tempura prawn as an appetizer. For an entree I went with the fried rice and added chicken, my wife went with the "Lakanilau" roll which is topped with Wagyu beef, both were amazing. Came in for dinner during the Pro Am and this place was packed, but what a vibe! Piano music playing, fireplace roaring, and drinks flowing! Started the evening in the bar and had a dirty martini which was excellent.. of course had to get the blue cheese olives! Sat down for for our meal and ordered the surf and turf. The NY Strip steak was cooked perfectly and the Australian lobster tail was sweet and delicious, even without butter, didn't need it! The salad, Tuna sashimi, Fried calamari, furiake rice, miso seaweed soup, misoyakin butter fish. Stayed at the Inn at Spanish Bay 11/12-11/15 Enjoyed it so much. Ate a Roy's multiple times during our stay. Not only was it convenient to our location but the food was delicious and the staff were the best I experienced during my stay in the area. We had breakfast and the lox and bagel were fresh and delicious. I had the Ahi bowl for lunch one day and it did not disappoint. My husband and I take our daughter here once a while, especially in the summer because it's always so chill and nice here. We usually have lunch at Roy's, then go walk around outside to see the water and digest what we've eaten. And then hang out at the outdoor eating area with drinks and snack. The hostesses are mostly friendly and welcoming. The servers at Roy's can be hit or miss. Sometimes we get someone who's attentive and friendly, but we had times where the servers didn't check on us once and we had to track them down to order anything or get our check. Good-wise, dinner menu has way more options than lunch... too bad we cannot always stay for dinner since our daughter has early bed time routine. The quality of their ingredients are great, and most of the dishes are nicely seasoned and cooked. We like their poke with avocado fries and prawn cocktail the most. If you're there for dinner, we also recommend their steaks. When you hang out at the lounge area outside of the restaurant, they serve pretty much the same food and drink options with same cost. You can choose to sit down and someone serve you, or buy the drinks at the bar and sit down. We like having someone to serve us, but it's not too easy to track a server down, because the only 1-2 servers at the time to serve tables at the lounge and outside. Eating at Roy's wasn't just to fill the stomach, it was also a pleasant experience that our server had given us. My aunt chose to celebrate her birthday here and it was honestly a great choice. We had a party of 12 and our server, Tony, was literally the best! He was very tentative on each individuals needs and was knowledgable of the menu. For appetizers we started with the calamari and tempura tofu cake. The calamari was soft and fresh. The star for me was actually the tempura tofu cake. I wasn't expecting much since it was tofu, but the batter for it was delicious! Tofu was silky and dip it with the sriracha aioli they decorate it with is *chef's kiss*. For the main entree I ordered the bento box with the baby back pork ribs and boy oh boy did that leave my tastebuds crying for more. It came with a vegetable roll, salad, rice, and tuna sashimi (this alternates). The ribs itself was so flavorful and tender, it would easily slip off of the bone. Based on the pictures you can tell we went out with dessert. DON'T FORGET TO LEAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT BECAUSE YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS OUT. Tony gave our table complementary dessert as our first order was the lava cake *HEADS UP* it takes about 20 minutes to prepare so order it ahead of time! The cake also had a little happy birthday message for my aunt which was very nice of them. The Kona Mud Pie had chocolate and coffee ice cream with a chocolate shell on top & oreo crumbs on the bottom. It also comes with a coconut ice cream sorbet(?) which was refreshing. I'm not a big fan of coconut but the flavor wasn't overpowering at all. The mango cheesecake was a favorite as it had a nice tart flavor to it. My personal favorite was actually the raspberry vanilla swirl ice cream that came with the melting chocolate cake. Turns out they make their ice cream in house which i wasn't surprised at all since you can definitely taste it. This review is longer than I usually write, I tried my best to share my experience with as much detail as possible but honestly it's best to experience it first hand. Stopped in for our first time for my wife's birthday. The ambiance was nice inside with flowers decorating the tables and the pace felt relaxed and welcoming although it seemed like a pretty busy week night with a separate private dining event on the patio. The outdoor tables have fires in the middle and supplemental warmers for cooler nights so we're definitely looking forward to sitting there next time. Food and cocktails were great as well. If you've been to a "Roy's" anywhere you'll feel like home in Spanish Bay. Restaurants strive for consistency since that's what kills a restaurant faster than anything. "Gee" why'd it taste different this time vs last?" Etc. my issue with Roy's isn't really the food. It's a lovely setting looking out on the Ocean with an option to eat outside if you're inclined. Nope, my issue is the feeling one gets once seated. The second you sit down you feel the energy of the servers immediately --="what kind of water do you want?" "Can I order you cocktails?" "Our specials tonight are...." All in the first minutes. I asked a friend that I know had eaten there what he thought of it and he said, "it feels like a cafeteria"-- same thing my wife said when we got home. It's a Wham, Bang, Thank you Man" kind of pace. Look if you don't care then it's not a big deal. Food is consistent. No surprises. When asked about the salmon our server said, " you can get salmon anywhere, " my favorite is ..." I never care what their favorites are. I don't know them from Adam. I do ask sometimes "How is so and so prepared tonight" is it a popular dish vs the Y.....the other restaurant in Spanish Bay is Peppoli-- Italian that is a completely different experience. The view, the dishes, and the service. All magnificent! Family decided on this restaurant for a birthday and it did not disappoint. We had a reservation and were seated ten minutes after presenting to the front with our group. We were offered indoor or outdoor seating and we were glad we took the outdoor seating. It may seem cold, but they do a good job at keeping you warm regardless of the ocean. With that being said, the ocean view at sunset made the special occasion that much more special. As for our plates, we started off with the octopus appetizer and were surprised that it had a group of five satisfied. The sushi roll and the brisket my partner and I ordered was amazing as well. Staff were attentive and very helpful. Again, the drive out to the restaurant was worth it and would highly recommend. Have dined off and on for 15 years at Roy's, it was always our family's go to place for a special dinner. . .the food was always outstanding, everything prepared perfectly with high quality ingredients. Several months ago I brought two guests for lunch which was to be a special treat and a thank you--they were caregivers for my elderly mother and I wanted to treat them. We had the Bento boxes two of which were Spicy Beef Stir Fry, the other some variety of chicken. The beef was gristly and fatty, a good portion of my guest's meat was inedible--it was that gristly. The chicken was mediocre per the other guest. I was very disappointed. I was treating 2 friends who wouldn't be able to afford Roy's ordinarily and was hoping it would be a special treat for them. The food definitely did not meet standards and I was shocked. My guests had been excited for this outing and I was so disappointed to disappoint THEM. Service and ambiance were excellent though. Once the server saw what the meat looked like (since we left it on the plates half eaten), he spoke with management and they gave us credit for one of the meals. We appreciate it, but at these prices, will not likely return. There is better quality food just down the road and less expensive (e.g. The Bench at the Lodge). read more

We're regulars here. I must say every time we dine, it's always a great experience. Though our regular servers were not there anymore, the new ones that were attending to us are polite, friendky and attentive to our needs. It was super packed that night, not one table that is empty, was guessing there was an event at pebble beach. But even if everyone was very busy with the large amounts of diners, they still manage to give us 5 stars service. Our server were very attentive, foods came out just in time, no long wait, all our orders were to our liking and we approved of all the taste. The view is beautiful as always. We were glad we were seated by the window so we had the chance to dine with a view. We usually reserve an outdoor table but it was cold so we opted to dine inside.
