Pioneers opened on 12/12/12 and is the first bar to open on 29th St between Sixth Ave and Seventh Ave. It's a quick walk from MSG and Penn Station so great to stop in if you're going to an event! Pioneers has arcade games toward the back of the bar so overall it has a fun vibe. We learned that if you bring more than 10 people (I think 10?) that the host gets to drink for free. read more

Great spot! It's interesting that there are reviews about bad bartenders- my experience was the total opposite. The two people working behind the bar when I went in were extraordinarily nice and provided great service. They accommodated my large party (no res or heads up, as it was a spontaneous event) with grace, and didn't seem bothered at all. They let my friend try a sample of their spiked slushie when she asked. They were quick to grab dirty glasses and keep the place clean, and were very friendly every time I went up to order. Very disappointing experience at Pioneer's Bar last night around 11:20 PM. I came there in a great mood after celebrating a win at Kicks in NY and ended up leaving feeling completely disrespected and uncomfortable. I spent over $50 at the establishment between drinks, Red Bulls, pool, basketball games, and the punching bag machine. From the beginning, one of the bartenders had a rude and sarcastic attitude when I simply asked about frozen margarita options. Instead of helping, he told me to "hurry up" because he had other customers to help. The drink itself tasted rushed and poorly made. Later, I politely asked if I could exchange a Red Bull I had JUST purchased because my lady didn't want the sugar-free one anymore. I understood I already paid for it -- I was simply asking as a courtesy. The bartender immediately became aggressive and told me "No, get out of here." Things escalated for absolutely no reason. When I said customers should be treated respectfully, he responded with "The customer is not always right. This is my spot and this is how I run it. If you don't like it, leave and never come back." After I mentioned I would speak to management, he started challenging me, yelling, and even took his phone out to photograph me and the people I was with while security came over to remove us. As a paying customer who came in respectfully and spent money, I felt singled out, embarrassed, and honestly discriminated against by the staff. One employee had curly hair and glasses, and another bartender was wearing a black and green hat with tattoos. Their behavior was completely unprofessional. I've never experienced staff treating customers this way over a simple polite request. Management seriously needs to address how customers are being spoken to and treated here read more

Went on one of the hottest days in spring, there was only an industrial fan blowing so no air in the back by the pool table. Got really hot!

Fun, laid back dive in midtown/chelsea. Friendly bartenders. Decent priced drinks and even a small menu. I've never seen anyone eating anything other than popcorn though. Def not the place you want to grab a meal..more so drinks and maybe drunken munchies later. Cute decor and fun games to play. Lots of tables and bar seats. The bartender Connor unexpectedly unplugged the jukebox on me. When I asked him why he stated that his team didn't want to listen to the music we were selecting. He proceeded to say that it was "his house and that he could unplug anything he wants". In general, definitely didn't feel welcomed here. Pioneers is a very laidback bar with a lot of fun games to play while grabbing a couple drinks. The drinks were a bit watered down but they're cheap so in all honesty it didn't matter much to me. I think the best thing I decided to do was play jenga as it's not something you do every day (or maybe that's just me) and tbh I would return back just for that and the other games. read more

I left a horrible bar and this place saved the night! The only reason why this bar isn't 5 stars is because they don't have tequila. No Patron, no Don Julio, no Casamigos, nothing. This is my kind of place. It is a fun sports bar with tons of games. You will find a punching machine, a basketball game, pool table, foosball, pinball and more. And best of all, these machines are all very cheap at $1 or $2 per play. There also have some free board games (Connect 4 and Jenga) too. They have reasonably priced drinks and the staff are very friendly. Pioneers is perfect for those who are looking for a no frills and humble place to have drinks and have fun. This is a dive bar this is not an upscale bar. This is a come as you are place and be prepared to size up the competition because with games such as jenga, connect 4 etc you are bound to play a game or two. The bar has a pretty huge beer list. I am not really into beer but if you are your in the right place. Food- they have pizza. However they allow you to order from other places. I've been here a few times after co-ed sports games with a group. The layout is spacious and they have a good size bar. There are some pinball machines toward the front and a few other arcade type games. The main draw of pioneers is the oversized jenga, connect 4, and other games. These are fun in a good group setting but the games and bar itself is pretty grimy. There's some seating such as an old leather couch but I wouldn't trust sitting on it. The whole place just doesn't feel clean. Pioneers doesn't sell food besides popcorn and potato chips, however they let you order delivery to eat in the bar which is good I guess. The bathrooms aren't very clean and on skeevy side. The place in general needs a renovation and deep cleaning. Still, a fun bar. read more

Bring back the 90s for me is going to Pioneers to have drinks and have fun while I play some old boards and video games. The place was very packed and you had to make a line in order to play a game. My group and I decide to play to play some Connect 4 and Jenga, but the game was not a regular size, it was a jumbo sized there were almost my height. In a big scream people were playing super smash brother and Mario car for Nintendo 64 and also a few of pinball arcade games.
