I had "gorgeous" lashes applied for my wedding 4 weeks ago yesterday. I have to admit--I was little nervous, never having done this before. It seemed a little extreme, but my make up artist recommended it, and so I went with it. I felt calmed immediately. The space is bright and impeccably clean. You lay down on a little bed, putting your shoes and purse neatly in the bin, and gentle music plays. The technician who applied my lashes was so obviously skilled at this task (sort of imperative when someone has glue and tweezers that near your eyes) that I could barely even feel the application. In fact, I fell asleep twice during the procedure. The lashes hold up well over time, especially if you use a blowdryer on cold when you get out of the shower and use the little brush they give you. Try and sleep on your back, not your sides. I'm 4 weeks out and I still have about 1/3 on my left eye and 1/2 on my right eye. Gotta be honest, it's looking a little weird as the lashes that have the extensions grow out to be suuuuuuuuuper long and my new eyelashes grow in as little short babies. I probably should spring for having them removed. I am still getting compliments on them, despite their weirdness, 4 weeks out. My only tip would be that if you've never done this before, do your research and stand your ground, because they will try to upsell you a little if you've never been before. I went 3 days before my wedding, which was totally fine. When I called to book over the phone, the woman tried to get me to book two appointments: coming two weeks before, and then a few days before for a refill. Just book the one appointment and know exactly how many lashes you want by reviewing the info on their website. They will obviously try and sell you the max number. All in all, I got 70/70 for $140. You can probably have them done cheaper elsewhere, but this place is totally professional. If you're going to have something so lavish done in the first place, you might as well go with the best, right? Cash tip preferred. read more

I don't understand how it's acceptable for people to write reviews based on their own fault (or even false claims). If glue stuck ur "upper and lower lashes together", how on earth did you not ask them to correct when you opened your eyes? And more importantly, how did you even get home and write a review if your upper and lower lashes were glued together!? Also, cancellation fees policy are standard at most places, because if you don't show up, the technician won't be paid, and that's not any basis to write a bad review. Anyways, I've been coming here for more than three years, I have absolutely no complaints. They may not always answer the phone when you call, but they ALWAYS call back if you leave a message. I never had problems scheduling appointments at all. Better yet, my lashes usually last more than a month. I usually do one new set, come back after a month or so to do touch up by piece, which will last me another month. Even though the technicians seem to change every few months, I've never had any bad experience here, and lashes always look amazing. There had been couple of times when glue was on upper and lower lashes or lids, so I couldn't open my eyes - this is part of the process, they make sure you can open your eyes before you even sit up from the chair (or how else would you walk, with eyes closed??). But the incidences are very limited, and the girl always always gently removed the glue before I sat up. Speaking of this, it's time for me to call and schedule a touch-up! read more

I've had extensions done several times at bb eyelashes in the city (they are great), but suffered a severe allergic reaction to the crazy glue they use at this place. i had to come back the next day to get them removed because the pain was unbearable. They told me no refunds, despite the fact that they told me many people have had to return to get the eyelashes removed due to allergies. Long overdue review here folks. So it all started once upon a time when I passed a nail salon advertising eyelash extensions. I went in, got them done and kept it up for about a month or so. Because salons kinda suck for eyelash extensions and are not healthy for your lashes, I started doing my research via yelp and found R's Eyelash Design. Let me tell ya, these ladies are amazing! I am a first time customer at Rs Eyelash Design. I was referred here by a friend who has only touted high praises for this place! This is my second time getting eyelash extensions. I worked with Nancy, who was so helpful through the entire process. She walked me through all of the possibilities, and even helped advise me on what type of style would be the best for my eye shape, and the healthiest solution for my eyelashes. Given this was only my second time, Nancy was very careful to explain the entire process to me, all details, and anything I might have missed my first time around. It was super helpful to have such a patient stylist to walk me through everything. Nancy was also very gentle through the entire procedure - absolutely no complaints at all! The space itself is small but cosy. All tables seemed to have blankets for guests to use which was a very nice touch. There was a Gilt City promo, and although it was a tad more expensive than the other lash extension promos that I have seen, my fellow yelpers confirmed that this was the place for me to go. It was easy to make an appt. and I did my research on the type of lashes that I wanted. When I arrived at my appt, I was fresh from a facial and my lids couldn't have been cleaner. My appt was Sanae and she was great. She guided me towards the correct selection of lengths and styles and then she started. She was so gentle that I fell asleep!!! I woke up batting my new luxurious lashes. They looked beautiful, but not fake. All of my friends said that they looked very natural (I will try to post a pic of my lashes for you to be the judge). Which is just what I was looking for. I have been back for 2 touch-ups since, and I will continue to maintain (I go every 4-5 weeks, but it really differs by person) This is really the best for me b/c I never have to worry about putting on mascara and even worse- having smudged mascara all around my eyes. It's not the cheapest out there, but for me, it was worth it. Even after my 3rd time, I don't have a problem paying full price and tipping on top of that. I went over the weekend with a deal I purchased off Gilt City. I was a tad nervous after reading about how other people had discomfort from the glue or the process in general. I have sensitive eyes and found the entire experience to be quit pleasant. I actually fell asleep! Risa did my lashes and they turned out great. They were a tad uneven and I mentioned this to her. She gladly fixed it right away. I would say the only draw back is she didn't speak any English which made communication a bit difficult. Overall though I will be going back! read more

Everyone who works there is very sweet and friendly. I had 80 pieces done on each eye and also lower lash extensions, it looks so pretty! I get so many compliments on these lashes. An eyelash extension newbie, I decided to try something new and bought a deal off GILT ($90 for two sets of lashes - 80 lashes each visit). I had read the reviews and was excited to come here. I have these barely visible eyelashes that screamed for a fixin'. When I went in, Sanae greeted me and really helped me picked the right lashes for me. I didn't know they had various thickness or curls! What the hell.. they had different looks to accommodate your goals (gorgeous, sexy, cute, natural, etc). Why can't I just be all?! Since it was my first time, I didn't want anything that will be too obvious and make my friends question what was going on with my eyes since I'm usually a minimalist so Sanae guided me to a between cute and natural look (mixed lashes). The whole application process only took 30mins. Her touch was so gentle, I was trying hard not to fall asleep. In the end, I am quite satisfied with the look. No discomfort and it feels like a part of me. It looks so natural that unless you know me really well like a roommate, you would think I actually grew them! Now I am hoping that they won't fall off that soon. This is a pricey upkeep... Next time around, I might go a little bolder since my first experience went so well. Switched over from another eyelash place that I have going to for 2 years. I purchased a Gilt deal. This place is 100% Japanese company with Japanese expert lash extension technicians. Everyone is professional and they take a lot of time to discuss what type of lashes you want and what you are trying to achieve. 40 lashes per eye is not enough, you need at least 80 and that still won't get you the thick OMG those lashes are fabulous look. It takes 1.5hrs to do my lashes but they make sure they lined straight. I will continuing to get my lashes done and as of right now they treat me right. read more

I'm in love! I won't be going back to mascara anytime soon. It's just amazing what lashes can do to you! I'm barely wearing make up now. Everything was pleasant experience. You pick your lash length, thickness, and style you like (Cute, Sexy, Natural, etc), and they will work their magic in an hour to hour and half. They also give you an option to do under eye moisturizing patch for $3. I did 50/50 lashes for $100 and it took about an hour. After you get this done, they recommend not getting water on it for 6 hours or so. They give you a little brush for maintenance, which I've been using every time I wash my face. I have gotten eyelash extensions before from other places, and they poke your eye and gets uncomfortable when your extension gets twisted with other lashes. So far it's been about a week with R's eyelash, and it's not uncomfortable at all! It really feels like your own lashes. And it still looks fab! I've been using mild oil-free soap for cleansing my face. I have a feeling it's gonna last a lot longer then I expected. yay! :) read more

I came here as a first timer to lash extensions and had a very positive experience. I wish I remembered my tech's name, but she was extremely welcoming and professional. She was patient with explaining the different curls, lengths, shapes, thickness, glue types, and answering all of my questions of course. I wasn't sure of how many pieces I wanted, so she did the minimum on one eye and took the time to remove the tape to show me what it looked like. She did this more than once as I also wanted to see the difference between different lengths as well. In the end I opted for 70 pieces, C curl, 11-12mm. They came out beautifully done, and I didn't feel a thing the entire time because she was very gentle and not rushing. I'm very happy to say that I got my eyelash extensions. Rika personally reached out to me after my first negetive experience and invited me to come in for a 40/40 set. Kari was very kind and extremely gentle as she applied my extensions. I was feeling ill from lunch and had to excuse myself a couple of times, she even gave me slippers to wear on my feet! So thoughtful. It's been one week wearing extensions and I am truly a believer that they make a huge difference in the way my eyes look. I posted my pic on Facebook and my family, friends and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. Sure I may have lost a few, but I have been careful removing makeup and cleansing my face. In addition, I would say don't touch your eyes a lot and use the eyelash brush to keep them dry and separated. I would definitely go back for a touch up. I can totally trust them what they use for extensions (lash, glue, etc.) - don't want to go a place where you don't know what they are using as the extension is at the end of the day done right on top of your eyes. I have mine done with a natural style which I like very much given that I have very short eyelashes. First appt via Groupon .. poor communication ended with a promise of FREE second appt. Second appt. PERFECT communication - remove left over lashes and new set free. Lashes are lovely, I was making another appt when I was asked for $45 (pay cash no tax), I said but lashes were free, yes BUT .. GLUE removal cost $45 .. I stupidly paid. On way home I checked their website price list .. Glue removal $15. I called and was told oh sorry thought this was a filler (replace lost lashes) appt. WHAT? No that was never so .. Out of the JJ's, Jane's and Eyelash Boutique, this is by far the worst eye lash extensions I've gotten. I'm extremely disappointed because I wanted to like this place, as 2 friends have said positive things about R's. The service up until my displeasure with the extensions was great. Prior to the service the beautician explains the options available and is very helpful and patient. After this I felt fairly confident that this was going to be a decent place. As I had my lashes being worked on, the glue constantly got into my eyes and thus they were stinging throughout the process, this has never happened to be before at other places. When the entire process was done, I noticed that several of the lashes on my left eye were slanted and 2 were completely crooked. I made my concern known to my beautician and she said "oh it's just the way you brush your lashes." I've had my lashes done plenty of times before and I knew it wasn't about the way I brush my lashes. I didn't want to be a pain and so I just paid and proceeded to put on my make up there. As I continued to do my make up, the lashes that were crooked were really bothering me and becoming more noticeable. I thought to myself since I paid for this service, I could dictate what I like and have what I don't like fixed. So I went to the front and told the girl at the desk my issue. She went to speak with my beautician and she came back and said "oh she says it's slanted because of the way your lashes grow." That's when I was really floored and irritated. My thoughts were: if it is the way my eye lashes grow, why is it that this is the first time that my lashes have come out like this right after it's been done? Usually lashes will sometimes go slanted as your lashes grow out in 2 weeks or so, BUT not right when I've gotten them done. Secondly if it's the way my lashes grow, my lashes haven't grown much since she's attached the lashes and the 20 minutes it took me to do my make up. This argument was just ridiculous and outlandish. I asked for the 1 lash that was completely side ways to be removed and after much attitude, they complied. In removing that lash, some others lashes were lost and after 2 days of having my lashes done, my left eye lashes look a HOT MESS. There's a section missing and it just looks wrong. I now need to pay another place to remove these lashes and do new ones that won't look wrong. UGH. read more

i've been to several lash places in the city, and to r's in particular twice. i'm so bummed to give this place less than a stellar rating, as the employees are friendly and the place is super clean. the actual experience being there both times was great - they're super punctual, and the procedure itself is relaxing. i've typically had the good fortune of having my lashes stay on for a good 4-6 weeks before much fallout at all of the places i've been to thus far. however, i was at r's only 2 weeks ago, and my lashes are falling out at an alarming rate. and, as your natural lash falls out with the extension, i'm worried i'm going to be a lashless freak in about a week! i'm super gentle with my lashes, am careful about removing eye makeup and try not to touch them at all, so i'm not sure why they're falling out so quickly. sadly, i think i'm going to have to go elsewhere. read more

I went in on the 26th. I used the yelp deal...quiet a discount. I had no problem making an appointment the same day. When I arrived I felt like I stepped into a foreign film, Japanese of course. Yet, I had the sounds of NYC in the background. The sounds where not a concern for me, and everyone is I an open area, but the girls hands are so soft and gentle. I felt very relaxed. They tried the sensitive skin glue on me, I had no irritation. The eyelashes didn't twist or pull, and they gave me extension mascara too. It was a nice experience. I was happy with the results, and how quick it made applying makeup. Due to no fault of there own, I had a all immediately when my phone was turned back on, my father was in the hospital for heart failure. So much for no water on my lashes, try as I might. It's my dad. Anyone following my reviews...which is all of you right? You know you love me. Knows my mother passed recently. So a week in the hospital and a lot of tears later I need a touch up. They told me np 40 pieces each eye for 45 bucks since I am in in two weeks. Nice. Dad is alive, he found out he has diabetes. I'm back in NYC, going back to the place to give it another shot, this time without the tears. read more

I visited this place courtesy of Gilt City and because I'm a curious person and always wondered what fake lashes would look like. My experience at R Lash could not have been better - the staff is composed of Japanese women and everyone from the receptionist to the aestheticians were sweet and attentive. Before you lie down for treatment, they walk you through the process and various styles available. You then are taken to one of the beds and tucked under a cozy blanket after which they start to glue the false lases on across a 45-60 minute period (the time depends on how many you are getting). For $45 dollars, I got 45 lashes per eye (only along the top lid) which lasted for about 4 weeks (they say it's anywhere from 2-8 weeks depending on your eyelash growth rate). You do have to be careful in maintaining them but they are well worth it especially if you are getting it done for a special occasion - they make such a big difference! After your treatment is done, you are briefed on how to properly care for the lashes, as well as products you should/should not use. If you wish to get them taken off early, you can schedule an appointment to do so, otherwise they will naturally fall out with your lashes over a few weeks. I spoke so highly of this place that my roommate and coworker both made trips to go here and have loved it as well. This location is pristine and I highly suggest this for first-time customers of lash extensions. read more

It was my first time getting lash extensions, and normally I wouldn't do something like this, but getting it done once for a special occasion made me consider coming back in the future. The ladies here will give you a consult, and a menu of styles (natural/flashy/cute/etc.), lengths, thicknesses, curl-types (J or C). They offer to use a lash adhesive that is friendlier to sensitive eyes, but may not last as long as the regular glue. I got a 40/40 set of short but thick J lashes (for a full but natural look), and 45 minutes later, I paid $90 (if you pay cash, there's no tax) and tip. My eyes are a different shape so the customize the level of curl so that the eyelashes even out my eye. I've had extensions that were way cheaper but that looked uneven and fell off within a week. I went here for a over year because it was so close to where I work. After being a good customer and spending thousands of dollars here, I finally had enough. I had one awful incident where my car broke down on the way to my appointment and I had to cancel/reschedule. I thought to myself, I've been a good customer here for a year, and for sure they would be flexible? Absolutely not. Yuko told me on the phone they would charge me 50% while I was stuck in my car on the side of the road. Luckily I had a good credit card company that gave me the money back when I explained how inflexible and ridiculous their customer service was. Yuko also proceeded to say I cancelled my appointment two times before, which was absolutely incorrect- I rescheduled them 48 hours in advance per their cancellation policy. But of course, they care little about customer loyalty and continued to charge me anyway instead of making an exception to a loyal customer. Another thing- I put up all this time with how slow they are. In terms of service, their application process is extremely slow. And yes they did sometimes glue my eye lids together and I had to rip them open with my finger. But I put up with it because their location was so close to where I worked. Between the long application prices, pretty expensive prices (don't let the low refill prices trick you, they make you put a new set on every 2 cycles. The new set- they don't take your existing lashes off. They add more on. It's just a tactic for them to make more money) and the inflexible customer service, I've had enough. Also, there were a couple of instances when Yuko complained about me not bringing a cash tip when I did 90% of the time. C'mon. I've been there for over a year and you're going to criticize me? You want a tip or not because I tipped the stylist almost 25% each time I forgot my cash tip. But of course that isn't enough- because I am sure credit tips go to their owner and not the stylists. I now go to Lash Forever, 15 blocks up. Just so much faster, better, lashes last longer, with amazing customer service. Take your money elsewhere. read more

They are very nice, clean. They work slowly. They have three levels of glue light, moderate and ALOT which they told me will help them stay on he best if it doesn't irritate me or sting. So ice have enough extensions put on before to know I don't have problems with glue. Well needless to say my lashes had so my glue my lids were glued together! Yes! had to be CUT APART WITH SCISSORS! I wasn't hurt but i know this isn't normal. Ok with that being said my lashes looked nice for 5 days. They where all gone by day 6. Not one left! I paid $110 plus tip. I went they were very nice and replaced them without charge, It took two hours. The tech clipped my eye three times! They are the first place to actually give me exactly what I wanted - NATURAL LOOKING, beautiful lashes =) I am so happy that I found this place!! (I can't count the number of times I asked for "natural" at other lash extension places only to leave looking like a drag queen...) The spa was a bright, airy, and pristine space with several treatment areas nicely spaced apart. They had the J and C curls in a range of thicknesses and lengths and made recommendations based on what I was looking for (natural!) as well as the condition of my real lashes (some of my real lashes were damaged and just growing in so she used slightly different thicknesses/lengths depending on what each lash could handle). Not cheap, but I think it was fairly priced (by number of lashes to be applied) for the thoughtful and professional quality of service I got. I've been to several eyelash extension salons in NYC salons for for club night outs, and this time I've decided to try R's Eyelash Design because it had the best reviews. The salon was very nice, clean and pretty, although I got lost on my way there (it was in a building. I just assumed the salon was on the street level). Staffs there were very friendly and professional. They asked me to fill out the counseling sheet because it was my first time there. After filling out the counseling sheet, the person who took care of me asked for the design I wanted to get, and went over the length and thicknesses of the extensions that might suits my eye shape. Comparing with other salons, R's do the consultation thoroughly so that I would know exactly what I'm having. They'll tell me what's good and not good for my lashes with the explanations. I wanted to get the longer lashes, 12mm, but she told me my lashes are little short and thin to hold the long extensions, and recommended me to get shorter one. After the explanations, she showed me different types of glues that they had. They had several glues from super mild to strongest, and asked me if I have sensitive skin or allergic to anything. I told her I'm allergic to pollens that make my eyes red and itchy sometimes. She asked me if I wanted to try for the milder glue just because I'm allergic to pollens. Other salon didn't ask me about these things before, and I was little curious, so i used the mild glue. It was second weakest adhesive that they had. Procedures took about hour and a half (I had sexy style, 60 pieces on each eyes), and the result was just amazing! They did tell me that the mild glue will make the extensions fall off faster than the stronger glue, and i have lost about almost half of my extensions. So I think i'm gonna use the stronger glue for my 3 week touch up (which scheduled for next week!). I would definitely recommend this place!! One thing I thought was funny, is that before they start the procedure, every staff I met while I was sitting at the couch asked me if I wanted to use the ladies' room... lol I thought it was cute, but funny... read more

The only thing keeping me from giving the full 5 stars is the price. It is pretty expensive. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They go over everything with you beforehand and make sure you are comfortable through the entire process. I had wanted to have the 80 pieces per eye done but i didn't have enough lashes so when it was over they told me they only did 70 per eye. I really appreciated their honesty. After reading the Yelp reviews, I decided to give R's a try. Their facility is clean, easy to find, conveniently located. After educating me on the different types of extensions, I decided to go with the natural look. I have to say that the results are amazing, truly natural. No irritations, no itchiness, just perfect! Personally I think this place is highly suitable for Asians, since the technicians really know and understand the differences between natural and dramatic, unlike some of the other places, it seems. Went here 8/26 and used a gilt city deal. Misa was my lash tech and she did a really good job. The salon is modern and quite stylish. The lash application was professional. Only one complaint. I was the last appointment of the evening and once the other customers left, all of the techs crowded around me chatting in another language which was very unnerving while unable to open my eyes. I've been a loyal customer of R's eyelash design for the past 9 months. I should've given them credit much sooner but unfortunately it was a horrible experience at another eyelash place that made me realize what a gem R's eyelash design really is (read my review on JJ's if you want to stay away from bad eyelash extension establishments). Every technician at R's is sweet, friendly, clean, and gentle. They offer eyelashes in many different lengths, styles, thickness, and even offer an adhesive for senstive skin. They are not like a production line, rather, they take their time to understand their customers' needs and treat their customers with the utmost respect. What I learned from my bad experience at the other place is that R's is really gentle on your eyelashes. They know how delicate lashes are and gives it the best TLC when removing them for a new set or for a touch up. Even when they are applying the new lashes they are so gentle I fall into deep sleep right away. My usual technician is Chika. She is the coolest chick! I love her because she has been so consistent with my lashes and even encourages me to come less often so my eyelashes have time to rest and grow out more. I went here for my very first eyelash extension application (special occasion). The facility is very clean, with soft music. I actually fell asleep during the application because I honestly couldn't feel a thing and I was so relaxed under my warm blanket. My lash tech was very informative and advised me on which design to get that will complement my eye shape and give me the look I desired. The application lasted about an hour and a half, no biggie like I said I feel asleep during the process. I got the gorgeous lashes 60/60 and they lasted a solid 3 weeks before I needed any touch up. I LOVE that place! it was my first time getting lashes done in april and i went based on what other Yelpers had to say about this place. It is a bit more expensive then the eyelash salons in Korea town but its worth it! Friends that were once going to Ebenezer are now converts to R' eyelash.
