I took the bus from New Vegas (the Strip) to Old Vegas (Fremont Street). It is a very economical way to get up and down the strip. It costs $6 for 32hours or $8 for 24 hours. It is very affordable if you plan on going up and down the strip. Getting a pass was easy. I did it on my phone while I waited for the bus. It took me less than 5 minutes to do. You can use your pass on your phone, Apple watch, credit/debit card, or physical pass. I used my phone. If you are going to use that option, just make sure you have enough battery to last. I did not feel unsafe on my rides, but there was no police presence on board. They do, however, have video monitoring on the buses. Fortunately, I never needed to see the reaction time on any of my trips. The bus was relatively clean. And I will be the first to admit that there are some very interesting people who ride the bus. The buses are ADA-compliant and have wheelchair lifts. The route is pretty much straight and can easily be followed using your map application of choice. I enjoyed my rides on the Deuce. It got me where I needed to be and saved me tons of money. If you have a little time to get to where you are going and do not need a direct route. I would highly consider this transportation option.

Screens showing upcoming stops were streamlined, simple, and perfect for visitors. The public transit busses are wrapped with perforated vinyl ads on the sides, including windows, so this isn't a sightseeing bus (nor is it meant to be), but as a cheap, clean, simple way to get around, we found the RTC system to be wonderful. Some of the bus stops had actual benches, and others only had slanted metal strips about the shpae of a 2X4, to lean against. Not only are they less than useful as seats, if they're in the sun they can get very hot.

Additionally there will be times where I have to give my car frequent rest. While it gets its rest I will be walking greater distances with the assistance of the C.A.T. buses. The South Strip Transfer Center (abbreviated SSTC from this point forward) plays a role in achieving this goal. This is a relatively realistic goal to meet taking into consideration that my residence is close to a major local route. The SSTC is located in an area that has the environment of a business park. It is south of Harry Reid International Airport and the Las Vegas Strip and a short walk from the Rental Car Facility. It provides connections to local routes including the 212: Sunset Road, 217: Warm Springs Road, 104: Valley View Road, 109: Maryland Parkway, and 117: S. Las Vegas Boulevard. It also connects with the Las Vegas Strip via the Duece and Harry Reid International Airport via the 109. Lately I have used this facility three times. In September, I used it with a local route that connected me to SSTC and the 109 to Harry Reid International Airport. I admit that it isn't the funnest thing to wheel a suitcase across a major intersection then wait by a busy road for the bus and wait again at the terminal for another. However, this saved me $20 each way and the bus stop was at Level Zero right by the ticket counter and baggage claim. This was a closer walk and less of a wait for a ride share. Recently I did a long walk to the facility although there were contiguous bus stops for a local route along the highway. From the facility I took the 117 to the South Point. Before I ever set foot in the SSTC, I had the perception that it would be grimy. However when I have visited here, it has been a clean facility with an active security presence. I have seen no graffiti and vandalism. When I looked on top of the bay a camera was keeping an eye on me. This creates a perception of safety. Apparently many other people feel safe here. The SSTC is attached to a parking lot. Apparently many people use it as a free alternative to the Harry Reid International Airport long term parking. There is even a form to fill out to inform security. If there was a feeling of safety concerns, I do not feel that people would leave their car here for up to seven days. I feel the need for improvement with ticketing at the customer service. Speaking of ticketing a bus ride on a local route costs $2 and an all day pass that includes the Duece costs $5. The problem that I found out from the mouth of an Agent is that you cannot purchase tickets at the counter. This is a flaw considering that places like Albertsons sell them. Apparently you can buy them on the bus. This is unhelpful when you do not have direct change or have questions with payment methods. This is definitely a flaw. As I write this, I would like to think that later on in 2026 and beyond that I will be using the SSTC. Especially as a connection between a local bus route and the Duece that will bring me to and from the Las Vegas Strip. With this, I conclude my review with these three tips: Tip One: the CAT and Duece with the SSTC saves money on the atrocious parking fees. Tip Two: You do not have to worry about drinking and driving. Tip Three: You save an extraordinary amount of money by not spending it on ride shares.

For some reason, I've always used the long-term parking garage ($18/day) even though I know the…read moreeconomy lot is cheaper ($12/day) - when traveling during the recent holiday, we had heard that parking garage spaces were limited and planned to use the econ lot for the first time. Thankfully all went well - easy to find, plenty of spaces, signage to locate your car later, short wait for the shuttle both ways, no real complains. For those who are particular, yes your car is exposed to the elements in the open lot rather than covered. Other than the heat, we don't really have major weather events here so it's a minor point to me. For those who say they'd rather Uber - go ahead, you'll spend more unless you live nearby. For us, living nearly up in Centennial, the lot cost was less than what we'd spend one-way on the drive. For bonus points, they have an assistance number posted for if you have car issues - staff are available to come by to jump start your car, inflate flat tires, etc. We came back to a low tire and they were out within 10 minutes, quick and friendly. I can't say we'll use this lot every time, but after this first positive experience (and roughly $30 savings), it's worth leaving a few minutes early.

The Vegas Monorail is actually pretty efficient going about 50 mph along about a 4-mile stretch of the Strip. Trains arrive frequently so you never have to wait long. It's a pretty comfortable ride and quick. In the mid 20th century, the monorail seemed like it would be the future of mass transit. Perhaps, the most well known is Disney World in Orlando built in the early 1970's. Monorails aren't really the best for mass transit. They are expensive to build. But there are rare exceptions where they can work. This is if put in high touristy area for a short distance. This is along a 4-mile stretch of the strip. But this wouldn't be good to expand the monorail to downtown Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, etc. It'd be prohibitively expensive to build many miles of track & need the land to build elevated track. Another example is in Seattle about 1 mile from Seattle Center, where the space needle & site of the 1962 World's Fair showing how the monorail was going to be the future. Goes from Seattle Center to downtown Seattle. People ride it for the convenience of getting between the 2 touristy areas and just for fun nostalgic value. As for the Vegas monorail, I had been on it a couple of times when visiting Vegas with my parents. In November 2019, my girlfriend of that time & I were there for a wedding. We rode the monorail for convenience once to efficiently travel from south to north the entire length from OYO (walking to MGM Grand where the southern most stop is) to Sahara (northernmost stop). We hung at Sahara & Strat, where another friend was staying. Then took Uber to downtown where we staying. We found the Vegas monorail to be efficient & enjoyable. It's kind of no frills and doesn't go that far, but it does the job to get you to where you want to go. Unfortunately, the Vegas monorail may be defunct in 2035 as Elon Musk's Boring Company is building tunnels all across the Vegas Valley, which will be dozens of miles of private driverless Tesla going to lots of stops underground. It'll cover a lot more land, but there are a lot of downsides too. One of which is monorail will not be needed anymore.

Still a great deal after all these years!…read more Even with the popularity of Lyft and Uber as well as Zook, you can't beat the convenience of being able to hop on and off from location to locaction while being covered from the elements. Which during summer or rain is priceless. They have recently added new pay stations which make it even easier to ride. Give the monorail a consideration when staying on or along the strip. We returned our Enterprise rental car and took the shuttle to Terminal 3 where we planned to fly…read moreback to SFO on United on a 6am flight. We walked over to TSA pre check using facial recognition. On the conveyor belt my carry on luggage was scanned and pulled aside for further inspection. Pro tip: I had an ice gel pack that was not frozen. I was asked why I needed it. Once I explained why, the TSA supervisor approved it. She explained it has to be in a frozen state if you're going to do carry on. Once we passed security we took the down escalator to take the tram to the D gate. Several places were open for business at this early hour around 4:15am.including Annie's Pretzels and Starbucks. Plenty of tables and chairs while catching an quick bite before boarding.
