I have gone go Potomac Pilates for the last 12 years. The instructors are wonderful. They all watch very carefully to make sure you are doing the exercises correctly so you don't hurt yourself. There are four different levels of classes, which makes it really nice if you are just starting out or you want a more intense workout. Strongly suggest you try it if you have not already. read more

I've been going to classes here for about a year through ClassPass. I'm an absolute beginner and have vertigo, and Valerie is *amazing* at correcting my form and making adaptive suggestions so I don't injure myself. She always remembered everyone's names and pumped us all up with subtle encouragement. I didn't see her at my last visit, but Kim was really great as well. I can feel my muscles for days after each class, and the movements make a big impact while being easy on the joints. I would go every day if it was more affordable! They require socks so don't forget them, or you'll have to purchase them at the studio! read more

Great studio! I have been wanting to try Potomac since I moved back to D.C., and I finally did with ClassPass. The studio space is open, bright, spacious and clean. The only thing I am not big on, but I eventually forgot about since the workout was difficult, is people being able to look in off the street as they go to Starbucks or other businesses in the same strip. Soon, I will be such a bad a** pilates chick, I will welcome the audience;) The workout was difficult and my legs/arms shook for most of the class. While I was sore the next day, it was a "good" sore and I felt like I accomplished something. The instructor, Sara, was great about reminding me of my form and making sure it was correct. As she said, if you don't do the exercise correctly, you aren't getting the benefits and you might be doing yourself harm...Good form with fewer reps is better than lots of reps in poor form. It was nice she took the time to work with me - it show the value they place on you and your workout. I am looking forward to going back for another class. Also, a tip - they offer happy hour (mid afternoon) classes at a discounted rate. While it doesn't work with my schedule, if it works for you - it's a great deal! Cheers! read more

I have been going to Rock the Reformer/Potomac Pilates since September 2015. I tried one class as a drop-in, liked it, took advantage of their introductory one-month rate, liked it even more, and joined as a monthly member (lots of different membership structures--by the month, by the ten-pack, drop-in, etc.). I love it. My body has changed. I feel flexible and strong. I breathe better. I sleep better. I sense my posture and can re-align it. My stamina has way increased. All this for a woman who cut P.E. all of the time in high school. That I like it and that it clearly likes me amazes me. Sessions are 55 minutes, class size ranges from 3 or 4 to 12. Instructors are terrific: Tanya, Lisa, Cathy, Cindy, Ayla. . .all of them are my favorites and there isn't one instructor whose class I haven't enjoyed and gained from. Three levels of instruction are offered. Level 1 is for beginners, Level 3 is advanced. The equipment is terrific, better than any other studio I have been in on the Left :-) or the East Coast. I take two to three classes a week. If I don't I miss it so much! read more

Please don't waste your money here. Go give it to another deserving small business. Not this place Good: located in a relaxing nook, clean Bad: Everything else. Instructors don't do anything. You pay decent money and they do not correct your form. They just shout stuff. Occasionally they demonstrated the movements but mostly just rapidly Shouted the movements. When they did demonstrate they would continue to preform the entire workout instead of checking form or teaching the class. The place has mirrors (generally these can be used for visual feedback) but you can't see yourself or your movement when the super tall instructor is working out infront of you blocking your entire view. The instructors are not well trained. I asked what muscles/where I should feel the exercise, they did not know. I asked other questions just to make sure I was doing it right. I wanted to know why I should only use 1-2 lbs weights. They gave some bogus answer, overall they did not have a clue about muscle physiology. They were inept about modifying workouts for various levels, beginner to advanced. Everything was relatively the same for everyone even though some older women were struggling and I did not even break a sweat. I have tried both the pilates and barre classes there. The pilates was slightly better but not much. read more

Had my first class here and was not sure what to expect. I signed up for Barre I (for beginners). I had no idea how out of shape I am. My instructor was Valerie. She is a terrific and patient, as well as encouraging teacher. Pros: (1) Classes are kept small. There were literally 4 women (including myself) in my class. The maximum allowed is 8, which I am happy about. (2) There is a nice mixture of age groups and ability levels. Valerie was very knowledgeable and was able to alter the exercises based on skill level. (3) Everyone in my class was friendly and encouraging. No snobs and no one in there showing off exercise outfits. The clients were there clearly to exercise. No show. (4) EASY parking! One of the reasons I have avoided going to any classes in DC or Bethesda is because I have no desire to fight the traffic and parking issues. This class was located at a tennis club with plenty of parking. (5) I was able to buy my ballet slippers for the barre class right there. Likewise I purchased the toe socks that I needed. Cons: I wish that there were more beginners classes offered at a variety of times. For me, 4:00 classes would be great. But then again, I guess I won't be a beginner forever. I have signed up for unlimited classes for this month. During this time, I'll try out both Pilates and Barre classes and will go from there. read more

Potomac Pilates is the absolute best for pilates reformer classes. The teachers are excellent, the happy hour prices are very affordable. I also belong to a big gym and do classes there, but nothing sculpts the abs, thighs and glutes like RTR classes. I have been taking classes here since the studio opened many years ago. read more

I have been going to Potomac Pilates, Wisconsin Place, for over a month now. Classes are small, teachers correct your form creating a great environment to learn and to excel. There are teachers for every kind of person; I tend to like high intensity,with verbal and physical cues, and an instructor that will really push me, I have found Lindsey to best fit my workout style. I'm used to taking classes on the MegaReformer and this is very similar but this Reformer machine is made of wood so sometimes it's a little bit harder. Also, for some reason, I find some of the machines a little gross...like they have an awkward smell even though I know they are cleaned after each class. That being said, I think the workouts are good. Repetitive and easy-to-follow instructions that build strength and tone muscle. Instructors vary widely in their energy level but for the most part I think the atmosphere is pretty chill. I do really appreciate how they have different levels to accommodate your needs. Word of note: a Level 1/2 class does not necessarily mean appropriate for Level 1 or Level 2--it actually means the level between 1 and 2. I found the Level 1/2 classes a bit easy for me and the Level 2 classes were significantly more appropriate in difficulty. Also, be sure to bring your own sticky socks! They do have a bin in case you forgot...but I like to use my own socks. read more

I love that these classes are kept so small and it's such an amazing full body workout! In my book there is nothing worse than being in a sweaty gym class with 30 other ppl, but Potomac Pilates' small classes make me feel comfortable and ready to work out. I've had a couple different instructors and they've been great. I would give you 5 stars if you had more 7:15p class options at The Palisades Branch, you're schedule is tough to fit into for someone who works full time. read more

This is a wonderful place! Pilates on the reformers has been life changing. I suffered from back pain for a long time and this has alleviated my problem. The stretching is wonderful and I am able to exercise all the tiny muscles that can't be stably accessed through other means. They will personally alter the lesson based on your personal strengths and weaknesses. They also concentrate heavily on form which has me sitting up straighter with better posture outside of class. There are males (like me) and females of all ages and abilities. I love it and am addicted. read more
