You can't go wrong with anything on the menu that Chef Beth Broussard comes up with. I highly recommend the Jalapeño Cheese Bread and Sautéed Catfish with Lemon Butter. Broussards, I was also hoping to get a look at the menu and walk-through what we would be doing (I can get anxious with my disabilities so it is an accommodation). Mary Broussard is so LOVELY! Called and confirmed reservations for large party. The restaurant texted about gratuities being added because it was a large party. I fully understand and expect this. With my phone being inside the house while cutting yard, the reservation was cancelled with no reason other than it was because we did not respond soon enough via text. When we called, they stated that it was because they thought we did want the gratuities added. Cancelled and was told that there was nothing they could do. I would like to start with me and my family have been eating here for years and even ate it when it was located in Macon and the food has always been great but I was highly offended tonight, I brought my wife and kids and enjoyed the meal but the owner came out right before we left and told my son that he better not ever wear the hat he had on back in there and went on a rant , I was so caught off guard that I was speechless but I politely walked out and will never set foot back in there , I'm a business owner and I see folks wearing stuff all the time that I don't agree with but as a business owner it's highly unprofessional to verbally attack a customer ,I hope it was worth losing several families business for her to come out and harass an 18 year old that was just trying to have a nice meal with his parents read more

I wanted to start the review by saying our first visit was for a Christmas party and the food was wonderful we left very full and very satisfied! (Although we left a bit confused why the wait staff had such casual attire(tank tops and jeans) for such a classy style restaurant. 2 years later we have some family visiting and we decided to try it again remember the amazing meal we had. We looked up the hours and found that this week was take and bake meals and due to covid starting a new service approach. My father in law was very excited to order the gumbo so we decided to go for it! The online instructions stated to order before 2pm and pickup between 5-6 . So my father in law placed the order around 1:20 . He was told that it was to late to order the gumbo so we decided to order the chicken pot pie instead. He ordered the extra large and was told that wasn't available so we went with a large 10" and a small 8 " instead, a house salad and 1 apple turnover. 50$ in just pot pie. We were very disappointed in our take home meal. We did not feel that the sizing matched the pricing whatsoever. The taste was very average and the best part but was the buttery crust which was disappointingly only a topper. We would love to recommend this place again but perhaps only for a sit down experience. read more

J. Broussard and I have a friendship that goes back about 4 years now.I graduated and now live in Memphis and I really miss it. We made a trip down to visit a friend and it was the must on the itinerary. I have never had food I didn't love there and I have never had bad service. Visited on a February Friday night early as the dining room was about to open. This restaurant is conveniently located in the quaint downtown area of Columbus. Enjoyed a glass of wine at the bar first. Service is sweet and local and very welcoming and attentive. Was quickly seated in one of the dining rooms once where I started with the Cajun shrimp toast appetizer. They're like four shrimp-filled hush puppies with a pepper jelly dipping sauce and they're fantastic. Have had several visits from staff already to ensure my comfort and enjoyment of the food and wine. Beautiful. Ordered the shrimp creole entree and another Sauvignon blanc. The entree was piping hot and not spicy but reasonably flavorful. As another reviewer had noted, the side was broccoli and although steamed well, consisted of two stemmy florets. More than enough food in the entree, so maybe they should consider reeling that in and going harder with the sides. Saved room for the bread pudding beignets and they were delicious. Crispy with a moist inside and covered heavily in confectioner sugar. I'll get these again. Overall the atmosphere, service, and food were very good. We started with BBQ Shrimp. You can't go wrong with shrimp in BBQ sauce with tons of garlic. Give us some extra bread and we'll be happy. It's a weekend and they ran out of couple entree. I like restaurants that use locally source food and know food is fresh when they tend to run out. I ended up with Grilled duck breast. The duck breast was a little overcooked for my preference. I like it a little pink. The fatty breast match well with the sweetness of pepper jelly. I don't think I have ever had better grits. Dessert, we shared a strawberry short cake. My husband and I were celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary and was super excited about this place to eat at! However, the service was terrible couldn't even finish our salads and soup before waiter was trying to take our plates. Once the dinner arrived there was a pitiful array of vegetables on the plate. The meat also was still raw. We told our server and she simply stated the chef thinks that it's done then it is done. Definitely will not be back. Waste of time and money! The New Orleans inspired decor and menu brought back a lot of memories of Louisiana and is very fitting for the theme. This restaurant tries to present the big city 4-star restaurant experience in a small town, but falls short in a number of different ways. The atmosphere was nice, dark red walls with simple decorations, low lights and white linen table cloths. It was a small dining room but spacious enough to not feel crowded. The lack of music playing made for an awkward ambiance since it was not crowded enough to be very loud inside. The bread was wrapped in a napkin and placed on the table, no bread plates. The food was decent, but nothing spectacular and definitely lacking in presentation. The BBQ shrimp was actually sauteed and looked more like shrimp soup that you would order as an appetizer, not an entree. The Ribeye was ok, slightly overcooked and was cooked with an excessive amount of butter. The wine list was very limited, about 8 reds and 8 whites, all fairly low quality wines at a steep markup. I would say the service was the most disappointing aspect of our experience. It was painfully slow, at times rude, and others non-existent. As I mentioned they were not busy and had plenty of waitstaff, no reason to be that slow. Our table had finished plates on it for most of the meal, it took a long time for someone to bus the table and remove dishes. It took nearly ten minutes to pick up our check after they dropped it off, and nearly another ten minutes to run the card and bring it back. Overall I thought this place was way overpriced for the level of service and quality of food that was offered. I would have preferred eating at Outback or Logans Roadhouse to dining again at J Brousards. The food would be as good if not better, service would definitely be better, and the check would have been a lot smaller. read more

My very first visit... Delicious food but awful service. Escargot was perfect, Shrimp Bourguignon beautifully well-balanced, Veal Joseph tasty and filling, and Luisiana Overload is to die for!!! Unfortunately service failed miserably. Many factors led to it: When I mentioned that the sauce overwhelmed the flavor of the crab appetizer (day's special), server stated that is how it is with seafood, that it doesn't really have a taste and it is the sauce that gives the taste to the seafood, that people don't really eat seafood for the taste of it... Sure... I'm sure the chef will agree with the waitress assessment of seafood. After bringing entrees, server did not check on us for another 45 min (food was long gone and we were waiting on someone to take our desert order). Lady that refills drinks constantly forgot about us. I'm sure they were busy, but I am paying just as much as the next guy. For the level of food quality and price, service plays a huge part in creating the atmosphere and that is why I could not give this restaurant more than 2 stars. read more

The appetizer special was leftover from the day before and tasted like it was warmed in the microwave. Our entrees we so so and lacked the flavor that I expected to have from a Cajun restaurant. My daughter's macaroni and cheese was awful, the chef definitely didn't taste that before send it out. The diablo chicken was more like a soup instead of a entree, and was missing the spice we wanted. The pre-made dipped ice cream cones the kids ordered for desert were like frozen rocks and you had to wait 15 minutes before you could eat them. Our most recent experience in March was awful, from the service to the food to even being accused of stealing glassware from the restaurant! The chef sent "friends" to confront us about the theft. I was stuck in Columbus MS for a while, and one of the few saving graces of that place is this great restaurant. I took a peek at the other reviews and I was kind of surprised to see that they were so nonplussed D= because I absolutely ADORE Broussard's, and I'm a person who eats out pretty frequently. The first thing that I have to point out about this place is that it is absolutely beautiful. Now Broussard's original location was in an old Southern Mansion, a few blocks away from it's present location on main street, and tbh it was even better....but the new restaurant captures nearly all of the flair of the old one. The atmosphere inside is pretty classy: the ceilings are high, the walls are imposing, and the colors used are simple and elegant. A few sparse decorative masques here and there serve to liven things up a bit. The hardwood floors seem to fit in with the whole aura of the place. Everything is always very clean, including the restrooms (which are pretty neat in themselves). The lady who runs the place, Mrs. Broussard, is a very kind and well-mannered hostess, who even remembers your name and face if you go there often, and the service in general is always good. Despite others' complaints about the menu, I have tried several things and found them all to be quite good. My favorite dish by far is the grilled duck with jelly, but there is plenty of other meat and seafood available, as well as typical Cajun dishes (which I've never really cared to try) and a lovely steak Diane. All of the ingredients used are local, fresh, and seasonal--if you have any doubt about that, try their Caesar salad, which has the most flavorful romaine I've ever tasted. Where the restaurant is a bit of the letdown is in the dessert offerings. There are many of them: everything ranging from sorbet and ice cream to tiramisu and cookies and bread pudding. That part of the menu is constantly changing, but there are only a couple selections worth trying. Broussard's is hands down the best place to dine in Columbus....yeah, that isn't saying much XD But if you go here, I really doubt you will be disappointed. read more

After being in Columbus for over a year I finally made it to this much talked about restaurant. Heather approached us in no time, and our food and appetizers were brought out respectively. We tried the baked Bri along with the shrimp toast which were super tasteful. The chef did not disappoint my expectation as the duck was cooked to a nice medium rare with a flavorful jam. DO NOT EAT HERE! If I could give an accurate review of this establishment, I would give 0 or negative stars. The owner/ manager should never allow herself to be around people. She is HORRIBLE!!! I booked a party of 10 for a professional dinner and she did not have the private room set up and went psychotic when I arrived and asked for additional seating for my guests (in front of the staff...poor people!). The owner threw me out of the restaurant. (I never raised my voice). im not sure if she was having a breakdown of some sort. I'm pretty easy going and was taken aback by her rude and bizarre behavior. Mary, I pray that you get professional help for whatever is wrong with you. I have taken guests to this restaurant many times and always thought this woman a bit odd and rude, but we never let it spoil our evening. As Columbus is a very small town, I can't imagine wanting to enjoy a nice evening out and it being spoiled by an interaction with crazytown. I eat here once a month or so. I have never had the slightest complaint about my dinner. Some reviews seem to be negative because the waitperson doesn't come by every five minutes and ask if they need anything. That's just the way I like it. My complaint about restaurants is that my conversation is constantly interrupted by someone coming by to "check on us." This restaurant lets you have a conversation without constant interruptions ... and the food is always wonderful. If you feel neglected by the waitstaff, feel free to eat down at the Sonic where you can just press the button and get someone to skate out to your car. read more

I don't totally agree with the previous reviewer. It's not really a New Orleans restaurant like you are led to believe. The food is good, but it seems the menu never changes. It actually has several dining rooms that are rather large and would be good for a large group. The bar area is the only small dining room. I thought the service was good, not outstanding but what you expect in a small town like Columbus. I think they really need to expand their menu. I still don't see this restaurant as a NOLA, but my impression has gone up because of a recent trip there with two of my friends. I had the shrimp toast for an appetizer. It's not really toast, but more like a large hushpuppy. The order came with 4 and had a nice sweet sauce. My friend had some type of oyster dish. I"m not an oyster fan, but she enjoyed it. The meals came with a house salad that was ok. They have a mustard balsamic viniagrette that was good, but I should have gotten it on the side because they soaked it My bad. I had a strip steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. It was one of the best steaks I have had in a long time! Could have had more mashed potatoes, but the green beans were crisp and tasty. One of my friends had the Shrimp and Grits. He really enjoyed it. I had one of the shrimps and they were very tasty. My other friend had the pecan encrusted catfish and loves it so much she always orders it. And, like always it's very good. I was very impressed by the waitress we had. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and the entrees. She was very attentive with a smile on her face. She was very professional and great at here job. I wish I had remembered her name to give her credit. All in all it was one of the best meals I have had in a while.
