Food awful and over priced! Great if you like bland food with no flavor or salt. When there's a festival and they cook outside, their BEEF Empanadas are delish and only 2/$5, but don't order them at the restaurant...you will be HIGHLY disappointed...I know...I tried on 2 separate occasions and they charged me 2/$9.95. ugh Drinks watered down too. Service was excellent though. Kudos to the service guys! I'll stick to the nachos and salsa, at least that was good. read more

I can honestly say that I've never had a bad meal at Ruben's. The complimentary tortillas and salsa are delicious. I always get the cheese enchiladas - generous portion, plenty of food. The guacamole is okay, not the best guac I've ever had but it's decent and always fresh. The black bean soup is amazing - you get this HUGE bowl - it's like a quart, for $3 - and it's delicious! The place isn't big and the waiters/waitresses are attentive. The desserts are a steal at five bucks each. Sure the margarita cheesecake is just plain NY cheesecake with a margarita in a shot glass to drizzle over it, but you get 2 slices! The flan is delicious, the homemade tiramisu is huge, and the fried ice cream is good too. They make the fried ice cream right at your table - they light it on fire and make a whole spectacle and everything. Prices are fair - I think they're pretty stable. Except if you want to go there for lunch, be warned: their lunch menu ends at 2 PM. Pretty early, if you ask me. I ate there once at 2:30, expecting to pay $8.95 for my meal, and it ended up being $12.95 instead. If you're looking to go on a Friday or Saturday night, go early (between 6 and 7) as this place gets busy very quickly. Also, they don't have a double door and in the colder months the draft sucks if you're sitting near the door. They have $5 margarita nights on Wednesdays and when I went I got a strawberry margarita in a big glass made just right (not too strong, not watered down). The parking is lousy (street parking or, if you're lucky, you can get a metered spot on Bank Street). But overall, I love Ruben's. It's probably one of the best Mexican restaurants in northern Westchester county. read more

It's super TexMex--stuff slathered in cheese--so if that's not what you're looking for, move on immediately. My issue is that I LIKE TexMex, but both my and my wife's dish were super bland. Like REALLY bland. Attentive server, friendly atmosphere, etc... when we were waiting for the food, I was really looking forward to adding another arrow to our quiver of local likes for those cold nights when you just kinda want something saucy and gringo. I went to Rubens for the first time the other night, it's located conveniently right in the heart of Peekskill. I can't comment on the food because I was just here for dancing while my girlfriends were drinking but it was fun! Great music (even the people sitting in their seats were moving around ) , friendly bartenders, and awesome vibe. The owner was nice as well and even the bouncer is willing to crack a smile and a joke, if you're looking for a local place to dance and have a beer then this is the place to go! read more

Ordered via phone for pick up order and got ther 230ish for some Insane reason my meal that would've cost me $11 came out to $21 the bartender said bc of the lunch time cut off .. Makes no sense I got the lunch size burrito no extra dinner portion or sides I got ripped off food was horrible as well read more

I had to log on to dispel the negative reviews I've seen on here. Went to Ruben's last night for a friends birthday and could not have had a better time. All 10 people at the table enjoyed their food very much. I had chicken fajitas and they were excellent. The sea food dishes all looked fantastic. The margaritas were excellent and they even gave us some homemade tequila on the house. Had a great time and can't wait to come back again for more. read more

I've been to Ruben's a few times and the food is mediocre. The food is generally pretty bland and you can tell they use a lot of frozen ingredients. I'm a little surprised by the reviews that call this the go to Mexican restaurant in the area. It might be true, but only because there really aren't many Mexican restaurants in the area. Tacos el pastor did not taste like the real deal. Veggie burrito was ok.

Came here for lunch last weekend, and we ordered the Tacos al Pastor and quesadillas....WOW, great stuff! The tacos had large pieces of tasty pork, and perfectly warmed tortillas. Quesadillas were good too, nice and simple without too much nonsense. Nice service too--polite and quick and not too overbearing. There could have been a bit more in terms of hot sauces options but I would definitely return for some tacos. Give it a shot! read more

I went there for lunch since I work in the area, I ran after 10 minutes. This place is awful, nasty and service is horrible. I found hair in my salsa and even after that my colleague and I decided to wait for our main dish, and what did I find? More HAIR!! I called the waiter over without making a scene and simply telling him to remove my plate and not to bring anything else. He joked about the hair in the food and when we told him we were disgusted and leaving, not once he offered an apology. read more

Extremely adequate Mexican food. There was a weird tang of disinfectant odor in the air when we walked in, which certainly didn't help the kitschy atmosphere and general run-down, murky feel. There's nothing wrong with a dive now and then, I suppose, but I wasn't in the mood. Though it was far from a rush time, service was rather slow. This is the only place in the Northern Westchester, Southern Putnam area where one can get a good chicken Burrito. My hubby is a "highly functional" Asperger's Autistic. He MUST have a Chicken Burrito every day. Since he got a new position in the hinterlands outside of NYC, finding the Burrito has been challenging. Thank G-d for Ruebens. Their Burritos are great, and personally, I like the salsa. Also, they have a nice bar for stressed out wives.... All very reasonable. This is my favorite place in Peekskill. read more

Horrible! Horrible! So the servers have no idea what the hell they are doing! The prices are all messed up they want to charge $15 for a small sized HOUSE margarita yet they had don Julio margarita for 10$ when I questioned this our server had no idea he said and i quote " idk thats how they made the menu" w.e so i switched to a sangria which tasted like flavored water and my fiance had a heineken which came out warm so we didnt even bother getting anything to eat because i could only imagine how bad the food will be if simple drinks sucked! The WORSE food I ever had. First of all, they took 45 minutes to bring the food to the table, knowing that we had 4 kids to feed. The restaurant wasn't even that busy. The food was tasteless and cold. Please don't ever order the chicken tacos from the kids menu, the chicken was over cooked and dry. The salads were lacking some of the ingredients mentioned on the menu: "abundant avocado", it had none, and the cheese was missing from one of the orders. The burrito, AYYY DIOS MIO!!!! no salt, no taste of anything really. The service was just not there, at one point our waitress went missing. Food was delicious. We had the skirt steak tacos and it came very simple wrapped in flour tortillas and a side of rice and beans with a tasty sauce over the tacos. Different and really enjoyable. Don't care for the dark restaurant, but that's part of their ambiance. Fried ice cream was just ok, would try something else next time. Awful service! Made reservation & we're totallly ignored because they were " in the weeds"! Manager said we came 3 hours late? Was he on crack? 7:30 reservations & we arrived at 7:25pm. Watched as others seated after us got their food first. Manager was defensive & abrasive, why spend your hard earned money here? Food was "Taco Bell" quality at best & staff seemed oblivious to any real concerns of customer service. So sad, want Peekskill to flourish but this was UNACCEPTABLE. Read some negative reviews on Yelp, but could not disagree more. Have been loving Rubens for years. I often judge restaurants by their seafood, which has to be carefully prepared and theirs is reliably excellent. Try the shrimp quesadillas. Their not on the menu but they will make them if you ask and they are terrific. Also recommend the Snapper Veracruz which is fresh tasty and seasoned nicely. Blackened Salmon fajitas also on our frequent list. Anyplace can make rice and beans, but finer food is why I like Rubens. read more

Stopped here for lunch today and as usual the food was very good,very tasty. We both had the grilled chicken with veggies. Seasoned just right with rice and refried beans. Good food good atmosphere. Would go here again! Nice little spot in Peekskill. The taco salad is just a a salad with some chicken, tomatoes, sour cream, all in a fried taco shell. It's pretty good but so simple. My husband had the shrimp, chicken, and steak quesadilla. He was beyond in love with it. The owner was so nice. We randomly picked this place from all the restaurants on the same street, and were pleased with our choice at the end. The service was initially slow, but once the orders were placed, the food and drinks kept coming, and everything we ordered was good. At the end of our dinner we could see the place transform into a Latin dance club. A DJ table was set up in the corner, dinner tables were moved to open up the floor for some dancing later on, and some fancy lights came on. The place had its own quirky personality. Appeared to be a no nonsense restaurant that did a little bit of everything for everyone. Served good food & drinks, and picked it up at the end of the night for loyal customers who maybe making this place their usual stop on the weekends. read more

We've been there on our own on date night, other times with family and everyone has always been beyond satisfied with their food.
