Today I ate here and ordered a soda, slice of chocolate cake, chicken fingers and calamari $41.62 . It was the worst food ever! The chicken fingers didn't even taste like chicken it had some unknown flavor and the calamari had no substance or flavor. The soda was great and so was the chocolate cake. If you want good calamari go to Pomodoro restaurant. Also the dipping sauce for the calamari was that of store bought from some no named. It was very bad and watered down with NO flavor. Jul 12 2026, met my boys at Rubino's for a late afternoon beer and appetizers. We ordered a lb of boneless wings and a margherita pizza along with a round of beers. Asked for the Franks Red Hot dry rub on the wings. Our server delivered the wings first and they were little chicken tenders (all batter) and no heat at all. We waited for waiter to to come back but he was just standing at the bar talking to other servers. I tried to get his attention with no success so i carried the basket of wings to him at the bar and said there is no heat on these at all, i need to have something else to put on these if this is Franks Red Hot rub. He took them back to the kitchen and was back at our table dropping them off in a couple minutes. He indicated they put more Franks red hot rub on and left. We all tasted them and could not taste a difference. He never came back to see if we were satisfied. The only comment about the pizza is that a frozen pizza from anywhere would have had more taste. After having been a satisfied customer for 8 years, we just had a terrible experience with two pizzas we had ordered from Rubino's. I called to see if anything in the ingredients had changed recently. Six of us who always have the same pizzas believed that both pizzas were undercooked, the sauce was off, and that the cheese was spotty. Found this on a whim while searching for a quick bite in the area. I'm thinking it is the same owner as the location that used to be in Herndon. The restaurant is somewhat split into two different ones. The right side is a full service bar restaurant with outdoor seating. The left side is more like a casual pizzeria where you can purchase by the slice along with many other options on their menu. The pepperoni pizza was great! I've been a Rubino's customer for about six visits now and it's a little more than your average pizza joint, they actually have a big menu and lots of appetizers, sandwiches, pasta dishes and more, not just pizza. I will say the pasta dish portion sizes are great- you won't leave hungry and you might leave with a little food leftover for lunch the next day, which is great. The food itself is good. I don't eat the pizza (they should take no offense, I've tried it and it's ok, but I only eat pizza at one place in VA) but I come in when I'm in the mood for pasta and I'm hungry. I enjoy the rigatoni, chicken, and broccoli along with the rigatoni, sausage, and meatball dishes. The pasta is sometimes overcooked, so I stopped ordering spaghetti and started ordering bigger pastas like rigatoni to get around the overcooking. The dessert selection of cake slices is pretty great and I have come in sometimes when my sweet tooth is acting up and picked up a slice or two to go. The restaurant is always clean and well lit, no problems there. My biggest complaint about Rubino's is this: They make the same mistake that a lot of restaurants do with pasta dishes: They over-sauce their dishes and absolutely drown the pasta, leading to sogginess and if you get an Alfredo dish, it ends up tasting like drywall mud because the pasta disintegrates in the sauce. I always (!!) ask for "light sauce" or "half the sauce you normally use" and there is usually a language barrier that I just can't overcome. Either the person taking my order doesn't understand or the people in the kitchen don't, but somewhere along the way, I end up with a dish drowning in sauce. Asking for the sauce on the side on some dishes just doesn't work. I know it's hard to find help these days, but I think someone who speaks English should be on every shift. I get that most orders are easy and the nice people taking the orders are trying to understand, but for people like me who request something different, it's hard for both the worker and me. While I was ordering, I heard a young lady and her grandfather trying to order their meal at the register next to me and the older gent was asking for "ziti" and not one worker could figure out what that was. Finally, I stepped over and told him to just ask for penne pasta, sauce, and cheese. Again, I felt sorry for all involved. So, I'll close with this: Rubino's is a good place to go for a casual dinner that will fill you up and or a great dessert, but you will be better off if you don't make any changes to the menu, it seems the staff is just not equipped to adjust. read more

My family and I visited Washington DC and to stay a couple days extra due to a flight cancellation. We were stuck at the hotel in Ashburn, Virginia, and could not figure out what we wanted. I found Rubino's on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Let me just say excellent, excellent food. I tried the calzone with vegetables and I requested for them to add jalapeños, and they added the perfect amount and it was so cheesy! I asked for two extra ranch is on the side and they decided to add even more than that which is a plus because I am a sauce gal! Came in for a slice of pizza after my workout. It was, alright. I got the margarita and it was on the smaller side for a single slice and had a thin crust (but it was only $3.50 so not complaining) Pizza tasted healthy, but kind of dry. It's not New York-style thin crust, but more like homemade pizza. Still enjoyed the heck out of it because pizza is pizza. The Juniors cheesecake and cake selection looked delicious. If I could give this a 1/2 star I would! Ordered a pepperoni pizza, greek salad and calamari earlier this week. The pizza was edible not great, the calamari was like rubber took one bite and was done, thought maybe we could reheat next day and see if it was any better. The Greek salad was sparse with items 4 olives 2 tiny slices of artichokes on italian pepper. The next morning the refrigerator smelled rancid from the calamari and when my husband and I went out in the car the calamari smell was still lingering in the car and was nasty! Not sure this was fresh or frozen calamari but one bite and in the trash it went the next morning. We think it may have been rancid from the nasty smell in the refrigerator and in the car the next morning. Totally disgusting! Sauce Sux! A quirky tale: I had an Italian descent college friend who had dinner at a non-Italian descent classmate's family home. In her honor, they made spaghetti. The sauce was made with canned tomato soup! Appalling but true! You just can't make this stuff up. Even jarred sauce would have been a significant upgrade. Our delivered ($50 all-in delivered) order including Baked Rigatoni w/Meat Sauce and Lasagna (Meat) had sauce that rivaled the Tomato Soup or bad memories of Grade School Cafeteria Tomato-based Sauce. I had truly expected a rich, slowly condensed bright tomato sauce as a base. It may have started with tomatoes but there was no slow-cooked, rich tomato sauce! Some milk/cheese product was added to it yielding a pink weak sauce. There was no notable seasoning, not even Italian Seasoning or garlic. It was very liquid, watery, in consistency. It did not cling well to the pasta. The pasta and meat in the dishes were adequate. Perhaps, they do build a good pizza and use an entirely different sauce. I don't know. But as for the Pasta Entrees? Do Not Order! Do Not Pass Go! Do Not Collect $200 (I wish!) I'll have to try a couple more places...[sigh] read more

Always reliable Rubinos. Great pizzas which is you pickup I would suggest 5 minutes in the oven when you get home. Their larger pies can get pricy but are very satisfying. I ordered a meat calzone to go without any onions or mushrooms. It took a long time to receive my order, but after I asked how much longer, it was going to be 5 minutes. I noticed he put my calzone in the microwave and walked away. Then I asked why is my calzone going into a microwave? The cashier didn't know but only guess was to melt my cheese. It took 15 minutes to get my order, when I was just about to say forget it and wanted my money back. Phew, glad to find this place when we found out that Main Street Wings closed in the Ashburn Commons Shopping Center. I phoned in an order for two pizza's. They make two types of crust, the NY style and the Deep Dish. Because we were in a hurry, we chose NY style. Bad choice. Why: Well, within 5 minutes, the pizza was cold. I'm going to guess that if the pizza was piping hot, then it would have been good pizza. BUT, when you eat a white pizza, with crust tasting like 'cardboard' because it may have been cold, then you think twice about ordering again. We also ordered a large pepperoni, onion, mushroom, and extra cheese...Where is the cheese is the big question? If you are paying for an extra slab of cheese, then the pizza should have cheese. I did not have a good experience at this establishment. I received rude stares when I entered the store. One of the older hispanic women kept looking at me and kind of laughing. She began to speak in spanish in front of me while talking to her coworker. Also, a gentleman that worked there kept staring at me while he handled my pizza. What a great pizza place. My neighbor recommended this place and said the pizza is just as good as it is in his old Manhattan neighborhood. The pizza was excellent. The meat lovers pizza was thick with plenty of toppings. The salads are fresh and the self serve soda station is well stocked and clean. The restaurant is always clean when my family and I come for dinner. Lots of room in the dining room to seat many. I recommend if you are looking for great NY style pizza. I hit up Rubinos during my lunch break often. The special is under $10 for two large slices and a fountain drink. The service is very quick and it's my favorite pizza since moving to NOVA. As a native New Yorker I enjoy their margarita slice and cheese slice. Crust is thin, crispy, with a nice balance of sauce, cheese and oil (as pizza should be.)
