I love rubios but just went to this location and never received my sangria. I kept asking and to the cashiers defense, she asked the kitchen to pour a sangria 3x they never did. They ended up refunding my card for it. Other that that the seasonal longosto lobster tacos were delicious. Reason for the one star review purely based on this locations. When I picked up my order, he was also there to show me what was ready and making sure that I was receiving everything I ordered. I miss Rubio's. The corporate influence at Rubio's has taken over and ruined it. Gone are the friendly fish tanks with puffer fish, the palapas and the manana attitude. Walk into a Rubio's now and you'll swear you were entering your dentist's office; clean, sleek and totally without a modicum of style. And the food? Bitch, please. Rubio's used to do a pretty good job for a fast food chain, but now it's just overpriced and sorely lacking the item for which it was named. For example, I recently ordered a shrimp burrito. There were at least 3 shrimp that I counted in this beans and rice concoction. It sucked. I used to get shrimp burritos here and they were really good. They are now unrecognizable. Taco Tuesday was the day I went and the tacos were just as good as any other day, only at a better price. I thought going in that the tacos were probably going to be much smaller than the normal ones you see everyday, but nope, they were exactly the same. Cook to perfection, not over cooked or too dry, just right and the perfect amount of sauce in the taco. They have a great salsa bar and the place is pretty clean throughout. Like to give a big shout out to "Chris" the manager on duty at the time, very professional and personable (easy to communicate with), came back to the table twice to see if we had everything we needed. Some Rubios are good, this one is not. I ordered a shrimp and bacon burrito, pretty sure I got a rice and avocado burrito,Little to no shrimp or bacon. The chips and guacamole were terrible as well. There are plenty of chips, but you'll be eating almost all of them with the salsa from the salsa bar, because the guacamole they give you is enough for maybe 5 chips. Watched one of the managers go on break then come back from break. Started ask the boy behind the counter where my order was. At this point it was about 20 mins. He made a half-hearted attempt to find my order. Yet I saw customers who ordered after me get their meals. Finally, at 6:45 pm, they find my order and start packing it up. I asked the other manger why so long and she didn't have an answer. And the kid packing my food said 'well we're busy. At least your food is here now.' I go to Rubios twice per month. Today I called my order into this Rubios. I was asked if I could hold. I drove to the location while sitting on hold. 10 minutes later I walked into the Rubios and nobody was in line or behind the counter. I was put on hold for 10 minutes and they just simply forgot about me. Not much of an apology when I showed the lady that I was still holding. She just asked what I wanted. I also explained last time I was in, one dinner item was wrong. She did comp that item, but she didn't tell me that until I paid. She should have done it right when I told her the story. read more

Okay I don't know what's going on, but I used to go here often and was just not excited about going back but something has changed in the past few weeks. The food in amazing, and service has gotten so much better and people look happy vs when I would go before and it was in a ho-hum voice, "can I take your order?" Now people actually ask me if I'm having a good day and I think it has rolled over into people care and now I go back up to three and four times a week for lunch, co-workers joining me. They were out of bags, and I would have expected the staff to offer some other free item say a free drink. Hope server just said they were out, and didn't even say he was sorry. I for the most part like rubio's. They have a decent concept and the food can be good. I go to the Encinitas location occasionaly and sometimes I eat there and sometimes I will take some food to go. Every single time I go there the food is always warm at best, even if I eat it right away. Never is it hot. For that they get only 2 stars. To me it shows that they don't care. Instead of cooking the food fresh to order. They are cooking the food in larger quantities, putting it in a steam table and scooping pre cooked food into your burritos and tacos. This includes the fish as well. Instead of taking the time to cook it to order. The health department would easily write them up for not maintaining a temperature of 150 degrees on there steam table required by state law. They do this so that they can produce the food quicker, not better. They should go back to there basics and do it the way they did when they started out. As they got big and popular they lost track of what made them good. read more

I think Rubio's is a great choice, its fast and reliable. You always know whatever you order is going to be yummy, fresh, fast and reasonable. They are famous for their beer battered fish tacos but everything thing else is great too! The employees are are welcoming, sometimes it gets a little roudy in there around lunch with all the kids, but overall it has a great feel. The company has a great story behind it too! read more

To call this a fast food restaurant may be technically accurate but the term "fast food" is truly a disservice to the whole Rubio's chain. The food is so damn delicious that I gave up fast food altogether in order to be healthier but then I remembered Rubio's and I made it the single exception. Because I don't want to give up eating here. All of the fish tacos are amazing. The shrimp burrito is amazing. The gourmet shrimp taco is to die for. We're talking higher end restaurant quality. The employees at this location are fantastic. There has been some employee turnover throughout the years but less than the average restaurant and all of the new employees are great too so it must be a good corporate culture. It's always clean for such a busy place. Bright and happy too. The other locations are pretty much the same. Especially the one at the Carlsbad outlets. I wish they had one on the beach. read more

"New" remodel is cheap looking, ugly and less functional than before. Floor looks dirty. Most tables now have high stools and are uncomfortable and difficult for kids, short people and older people. Sign wall looks sterile and cold. Plaster patches show and look like an uneven mess. Worst of all, Manny, the best employee ever and the heart and soul of the Encinitas store is no longer there. worst experience I have ever had at a Rubios! The experience started off good when the lovely Julia took our order. She was great very helpful and extremely helpful considering the mess she was given to work with. After placing our order we ventured over to the soda station only to find that this location was out of adult straws next we worked our way over to the salsa bar which was in shambles! Everything was a mess the salsa containers were out in addition to 75% of the condiments. I went to the counter and informed the manager they were out of several items at the salsa bar and asked him for limes and he wasn't friendly at all ! He made me feel uncomfortable for asking for limes and a large container to put them in. I then noticed him bark orders at another young lady to fill supplies and his poor girl was the one taking the food tithe tables for the guest so she wasn't goofing off she was doing a great job. I then witnessed the manager abrasively work his way to the salsa bar to fill while there he ignored an older woman who asked him for salsa cups he hen barked at the same girl to refill those. i asked the young lady for straws and she said we are actually out but I can give you something from the back and came back with some. Bendable straws which was appreciated. My issue is clearly with the management but I believe it isn't entirely his fault. He is but a small fish in a big pond the corporation he works for clearly is behind the cut backs on labor and supplies to help cut cost company which is so unprofessional. Weas customers make it possible for the people in these corporations to maintain their lavish lifestyles outside of the company. While you corporTe heads ride you employees to to cut back on cost we get stuck with dollar tree bendable strawsand not enough bodies present to help customers who visit an establishment and then the blame gets layed upon the manager because he/she is the fall back person when the blame lays strictly on you corporates cheap skates. It is the little people who make it possible for your business to operate and for you to drive your fancy cars and lives in your luxury homes!
