I love Rubios and Ive never had an issue with them till today. I ordered a quinoa bowl and it was not fresh, felt so hard and it was probably uncooked. I went up to the cashier and told him about it. He turns to the cook and tells him "apparently it's hard" so you're assuming I'm lying? But the worst part is that the cook admits that I was right and it was not fresh. So knowing that, the cook still decided to serve it to the consumer!!! It was just not a good experience. read more

I was surprised by the reviews but coming here I am no longer surprised because they are true. I walked in and stood in front of the counter (no one in front or behind me) and waited patiently while they chit chatted. No one greeted me or said anything to me. It wasn't until another customer came in and asked if I was ordering that I realized I was at the wrong register. I find it rude that the employees said absolutely nothing. While ordering the experience was no better, the employee was straight faced and no personality. I literally stopped for a snack and I would have much rather stopped at jack in the box because my fish taco was cold. Not to mention there was the tiniest bit of guacamole but an overload of cabbage. The only reason I am giving two stars is because the steak street taco was good and warm but honestly a rip off for $3. Can't get an order correct to save their lives & apparently the manager already is well aware of this fact due to refusal to answer phone. Check your orders before you leave! We have been coming to this location for years. I have always loved the food and the service. Last night was a complete disappointment. I called in the order ahead of time and was told to come pick up in 10-15 minutes. I came a little after the 15 minutes and went to the pick up window on the left. They told me I had to get in line to pay. The line was out the door. I waited in the only line as the customers went up and ordered their meals . I could see my order finished on the left but had to wait in line nonetheless. When I asked the cashier about this new policy, she said it was the policy of the new management . To top it all off, I was told I had my total order. I went over to the salsa bar and pulled everything out of the bag to check. Half my order was missing. Had to go back and find someone to help me get the rest of my order. By the time I came home with my order, it was almost 1 hour later and everything was soggy. Undoubtedly the WORST Rubio's I've ever been to. It took over 20 minutes for my food to be served! Of course, the tacos were cold and the fish soggy. The beans were cold and devoid of flavor. The restaurant itself was filthy with used plates stacked on top of every trash bin. The tables were dirty and the salsa bar was a disaster. I complained and got vouchers for free meals. Always been the go-to place for good, semi-healthy mexican food. Fresh, yummy, and affordable. Always fast and rarely mix up your order. The manager at the Encinitas location have been there for a while and is super friendly. If you've never had Rubio's famous fish taco, then your missing out. I am a fan of Rubio's but this location needs a lot of help in overall cleanliness. I realize, my error, that "Taco Fish Tuesday's" brings in a larger crowd than normal but you need to add staff to keep up with cleaning tables and floors. We walked around for about 5 minutes deciding which of the dirty area's was best to sit in. Salsa needed replenishing and cleaning around the bowls. We've gone on several other occasions and still run into the same problem withe the lack of cleanliness. Please improve so I don't need to drive further to go to another Rubio's. read more

You can expect a long wait here. It was busy but it looked like there were4-5 people out front and 2 people in the back. We ate in and watched the server pass us go to the back of the restaurant, walk outside and finally bring to food to us. We were right up front. The server said "sorry ai wasn't looking at the numbers on the table". It caused one of the meals to come out ice cold. Maybe next time they can figure out they need more cooks and that the server look at all the numbers on the tables. read more

This place is pretty good and it's near my work. However, EVERY SINGLE TIME I've ordered from there in the last 3 years they get my order wrong. Today was ... gourmet tacos, no bacon... he repeated it back 'without bacon'.... well HELLO bacon. For some reason, Anna is intent on arguing with my wife. The burrito was once again small as a pencil, and they were intent on arguing with her. This is unacceptable customer service, attitude, and disgusting. We've been going to Rubio's since 1990, and have never had these problems before. Although the food is the same fine Rubios food you expect, this building is beginning to show it's age, and the furnishings are beginning to sport tears, etc. My son was greatly disappointed when the fish tank was removed recently, but I can understand it - those things must be expensive to maintain! The person who appeared to be in charge kept saying "we were slammed by a big catering order" but they need to be prepared to efficiently deliver big and small orders promptly. Wow what happened? The last time I had a fish taco from here, it was decent, but that is like a year ago. I was craving a fish taco and didn't want to drive to my usual spot (Germano's fish truck) so stopped for taco Tuesday. I phoned my order and went to pick it up. I saw my order being ready so it's not like my food sat for a long time. I drove home (which is under 7 min!) and opened up the fish tacos. They were so dissapointing! Barely any cabbage, fish was soggy, tortilla was soggy with red sauce messily slathered. It did not hit the spot as I was hoping it would. I understand they can be very busy for taco Tuesday but they really should be consistent with the food they serve. It was SO BUSY when I came in the first time for a delivery order, but this is also where I decided to eat lunch and I remember it being busy so I called in my order. I tried to order online but you can't do certain add ins and take offs online so I called in. I totally forgot to personalize my order so when I got there and they showed me my order, YES ITS EXACTLY WHAT I ORDERED! But I didn't want it because I forgot my adjustments and the manager OH SO SWEET without a problem even tho I kept telling him it was fine had my whole order remade just how I wanted it and I got it fresh! They take care of their customers if you let them and I was so impressed! I would say they could keep their tables clean but I literally saw like two dirty tables and they had two employees working the restaurant, and I'm absolutely positive one of the two people I'm referring to was a manager as well. I don't usually frequent fast food spots but was at the pass out point and needed food quick. I walked in and it was slammed ( 2pm Christmas Eve). The line was handled very quickly and efficiently, I had enough time to wash my hands , select my salsa and grab a seat and my food was delivered . I had the surf and turf taco combo with beans and chips... Really fresh, langostino and beef had great flavor and cooked well . What I really loved was observing the manager and shift leader constantly cleaning the tables and salsa bar, checking on their guests, making sure this was a great experience . I don't care if it is fast food... The lesson here is no matter what you do do it well and at this location I was very pleasantly surprised. *** I just tried to send feedback on the Rubio's 800# and it ended before I had completed it. I paid with an eGift Card and though she was unfamiliar with the process, she quickly asked the manager rather than pretend to know how to do it.
