I had gone to Costco in Mission Valley at lunchtime and had quite a few samples so I wasn't super hungry when I picked up my order on time at the Mission Valley location. The parking lot was very very full, but I managed to squeeze my little MINI into a spot and pick up my order so I didn't have to clog up. The red curb out in front like so many other people did. M I got home and unloaded my groceries and was trying to decide which of the three tacos to eat first and I decided on the shrimp taco Verde with the avocados on it and I poured some cilantro and onions on it and some chipotle, salsa and it was delicious. I love their fish burrito with black beans, but ordered the fish n' chips today. Big mistake. It looks nothing like the fish n' chips on their website. They use the very same fried fish patties on the tacos. They must be guppies, because they were no bigger than a french fry. My cat enjoyed them though. Came here to redeem an offer for free fish and chips. How could that possibly disappoint? The photo looks good. Well, that must have been a very small plate. The 2 pcs of fish that arrived -- after a half-hour wait -- were tiny. Laugh out loud, silly amounts of tiny. Were they minnow? The lemon slice is practically the same size. Accompanying my paltry pieces were plenty of fries and something pink I had to ask the server to identify. The photo doesn't do the color pink justice. It was neon, Pepto-Bismol pink. Apparently it's slaw. (She specifically didn't say cole slaw; maybe this doesn't meet the definition.) About 80% liquid. I drained an entire go-cup (such as the ones at the top of the photo) up to the rim with that pink stuff, and still the cabbage swam in it. Not much flavor to it, but it added some crunch. Typically this costs $7.99. Given the prices they are getting away with for everything else, I guess it's not that bad. But really, it's kind of a joke. This is one of my go-tos for a quick reliable, healthier and delicious fast food option! You order at the register then sit down. There is a fresh self serve salsa bar, I love their red salsa! I've had many options from their menu and am always happy. They have an app for promotions and ordering ahead for takeout to make things more convenient but you can always order takeout in store as well! This most recent visit, I decided to try their new featured dish: the langostino lobster bowl. I was surprised when they brought the bowl that it included tortillas. When I've ordered bowls in the past they don't come with chips or tortillas and have always thought that would be a great addition. The only thing I would suggest is that you offer the choice of corn or flour tortillas or chips. I received flour tortillas but would have preferred corn or chips. Very friendly staff and nice restaurant! I got a wild-caught mahi mahi burrito - portion was very filling, I saved half of the burrito for dinner because I was stuffed! The mahi mahi had a nice meaty texture, and the avocado inside the burrito was so creamy and tied it all together. Chips were crispy and paired well with the salsas from the salsa bar. Service was friendly and fast but the tacos came very cold. I understand that there are vegetables that need to stay fresh but expect the fish to be hot. If I want cold fish I would rather have sushi. Not exclusive issue in this restaurant, I have noticed that at several Rubios, not sure why this trend. My husband and I came to this location during their 40th anniversary for their 99 cent original fish tacos. If you don't have the app, what are you doing? The line was insane, it was barely even moving when we got there so we decided to place our order on the app. Normally it would be a lot faster to get our meal but we got it faster than the people who we were behind from the line. I appreciate the open salsa bar, got to pick so many variations of salsa. The 1 star I couldn't give them id because their chips are always so salty, and their tables are always so sticky, even after asking them to clean it.
