This taco shop has become our go-to spot after visiting Mary Birch, and it never disappoints. We've never had a bad meal here! I've tried the Hot Cheeto Burrito and the California Burrito, both of which were delicious. My mom absolutely loved the Tinga, and my husband always orders the T-GUNS--which is absolutely huge! The prices are a little on the higher side, but the quality, generous portions, and consistently great food make it well worth it. Such a bummer! I was excited to order food to-go after a long day. One of the items I ordered was a cup of lentil soup. I was handed my order in a brown paper bag with handles at the top, and took it to my car. Just after I began to drive, it was obvious the lentil soup was leaking all over my passenger seat from the bag. (Keep in mind, the bag was not moving around after being placed on the seat, and I was only a block away from the location just entering the freeway.) I had to wait until I exited the freeway to get out and try to remedy the disaster! As soon as I moved the bag, it ripped from being soaked through, and the test of my items fell out of the open door onto the street. $35+ order and all went to waste! Just because the soup could not be packed properly and had a loose plastic lid. Such a shame that I will NOT be back, and cannot recommend this place to anyone else. read more

Food was disgusting and this place is ripoff. I ordered a full size of Campechana fries to eat there which cost me about $20. They literally gave me a small tray, so I asked the guy if that was the full size, and he said "yes." So then, I asked him to show me the half size tray, and he shows me the same exact tray and says they just put less. I measured the tray and it is literally the size of the half to go order. Our food came super quickly and tasted so good! We got the chicken burrito (which was super big) and the chicken plate; the chicken is super juicy and flavorful. Restaurant was clean and felt comfortable. Only takeaway was that the plate was on the expensive side for the amount of food. read more

Really great food, I ordered the rolled tacos and based on the pictures online I expected something hefty especially when it's 16 dollars for it. Well no, the rolled pencil tacos are hella small, maybe like 4 ounces of beef on top and then lettuce to make it seem like the container is full and obviously I'm Not cheap enough to not tip. So make that 18 even though this is a to go order. What bothered me even more is they offer the salsas which are pretty good, in the .5oz cups which now I have to get like 8 of them to put enough salsa, what a waste of plastic. This place is too boogie, for my wallet and the host Esme didn't bother to ask if I needed a fork or anything. So I guess I'm grabbing the left over bits by hand at work. While waiting peeked at the adorable restaurant area, separate frm the cashier & the colors are vibrant & sharp; will eat in next time! The tortillas were fresh & held up amazingly! I'd hoped the pastor would have pineapple salsa but didn't; will ask next time. The barbacoa had pickled onions on it that were zippy. My favorite was the carnitas - delicious flavor. For some reason I had really low expectation of this place. Maybe because it's by the college and random corner plaza. I am overly shocked at how good this place was and can't be judgy. When you walk to the back, it's like a club! You got tvs playing sports and another tv playing a deejay spinning music with LED lights along the walls. They have breakfast items until 2pm like chilaquiles, veggie items, kids meal, quesadillas, plates, burritos, combos. California burrito is what I get when it's my first time. I'm blown away at the steak flavor, the soft tortilla, the fries were crispy and not your typical fries. Had guacamole, cheese and sour cream. Not to mention it was a hefty burrito that I only ate half. It came with chips. We also got al pastor taco, beer battered fish and carnitas taco. All delicious. Each had their own toppings that brought out all the flavors. Will definitely be coming back when we're craving Mexican food. read more

We came here for the burritos, but the Al pastor tacos were the star of the show! My husband is from Nor Cal and likes rice and beans in his burritos. I know, I know. So he has been doing some investigating on taco shops that have whole pinto beans (instead of just refried beans) and found Lupe's. He got a burrito and I got the rolled tacos. We got an order of the Al pastor tacos to split bc we were super hungry and wanted leftovers. The burrito and rolled tacos were good, but the TJ-style Al pastor tacos were AMAZING! We took our food to go, but we will definitely eat here next time because the decor is super cute. The employee who took our order was very kind and helpful. All in all, this is a great shop. Paid over $50 for the food and left a tip. $9 for a quesadilla and $18 for birria fries that were missing half the ingredients listed on the menu. Called to get my money back they told me to call back in 15-20 min to speak with a manager. They wouldn't answer the phone. Trash food,, trash customer service. Tacos, tacos, tacos, protein-style tacos. I absolutely love this place! First time I have seen protein-style tacos. Shrimp, carne asada, octopus, mushroom shrimp, and spicy shrimp tacos are . Came back to San Diego and hit it 3 more times in one week. I love the protein-style option. I get the octopus taco regular it has crispy cheese and pesto. If you are a pesto and seafood fan you will love it. The fish tacos are grilled which is much better in my opinion as I don't like all the extra breading. The amount of meat they put in the tacos was almost comical ! I took it apart to take a photo because I couldnt believe how little meat they actually put inside! Makes no sense how they feel okay to charge almost $6 a taco for a stale tortilla with mostly lettuce and tomato ! A quesadilla and two tacos came out to $32 ?!?! I ordered the Lupe's in Cali burrito which severely lacked the chipotle sauce, making the burrito really dry. I was REALLY craving the chipotle sauce, it's my fave (tear). Luckily, I didn't write this review before actually finishing my burrito. After getting halfway through my burrito, I counted only two pieces of shrimp.
