While in a seminar across the street, which as usual at lunch break broke out hoagies. I quickly ran out to find a fast, healthy alternative close by. Ruby's Buffet, for the price and selection, is a must try. Traditional sushi and many other usual and unusual Asian combinations, but I found myself eating only American cuisine rarely found at these buffets. I was more than pleased that we had chosen Ruby Buffet for lunch. Not only is it in an easy to get to location with lots of parking, but the freshness and variety of food coupled with the low price for lunch... $20 for two including tip and drinks ... puts this at the top of my 'how to eat well and cheap" while in Philly list. I like veggies and sushi... and the Chinese spinach was bright green and fresh... and the tuna nigiri was surprisingly good for it being a buffet! The baked chicken was succulent. The carve-it-yourself pork loin was a bit dry (it was very lean... which is healthy)... but good. The caesar salad was crisp and full of dark green romaine. In general, the place was good. However they were very inconsistent with delivering buffet items. Specifically, I felt as though the snow crabs were poorly rationed in 25 minute increments. The service was sporadic but the choices were vast. Finally, the music was too loud and obnoxious. In closing they should lower the music and increase the amount of snow crabs. read more

This place is hella gross! My friend & I were around the area, it was getting dark & we were both starving, so we thought we'd settle for the buffet. Beside, everything should taste better when you're hungry right? Wrong! We tried out at least 20 items and were on the verge of spitting out the food...no joke! And as my last resort, I thought I would just get myself some chicken & broccoli and lo mein, thinking noway anyone could screw that up...wrong again! Both tasted really sweet as they were drenched in corn syrup...lo mein was mushy and flavorless, also very greasy! I also have problem with the customers in there. I know it's a buffet and we don't expect anyone to act proper or behave like an adult. Anyhow, the people we've encountered were AWFUL! My friend almost got elbowed by some girl because he was walking by the crabs & she thought he's gonna go after it. Oh em gee! And I nearly got pushed 3 feet away because some lady was trying to kill everybody around her so she can get the very last piece of sweet cheese puff...ridiculous! I'll never eat in here again. i love a good chinese buffet and ruby fits the bill. it's always pretty packed and while i wouldn't eat any raw fish here, the cooked entrees are delicious! i love their general tso chicken, chicken with broccoli, and singapore noodles. it's super cheap as well - we went during a weekday lunch and it was $7.99 per person, which is insanely affordable. read more

It's a great place for a quick, inexpensive lunch. The restaurant is clean and the servers are so nice. Will NOT go there for dinner only because I don't feel like fighting with the crowd over crabs and crab legs. For $7 and some change you can choose from sushi, soup and anything in between. Love the fresh string beans with hoisin sauce. Before leaving, got to get some soft serve ice cream with an almond cookie on the side. Aaaahh now I'm ready to head back to the office. :) read more

I had never been to a Chinese buffet prior to this, but after discovering that the Hibachi on the waterfront was not open for lunch on my Monday off, my friend and I were in search of a place to eat, we agreed that Ruby Buffet would be the right choice for both of us. After we were seated and our drink orders were taken, we went up to partake of the buffet selection, and boy was I surprised! The menu runs the gamut of everything from traditional Chinese fare to sushi (which was pretty decent) to French fries! And don't even get me started on dessert...banana pudding, fresh fruit, soft serve ice cream--oh my! Pricewise, for multiple trips to the buffet and drink refills, we definitely got our money's worth. The only downside was that our waitress was standing near us waiting for us to finish eating after she delivered the check. Regardless, I'd definitely go back if I were in the neighborhood. read more

One of the best Chinese buffets I've had on the East Coast. It has a good selection of tasty food, and the service is pretty fast (they take away your empty plate as soon as you walk to get your next one). However, there is usually a long line for the popular options (such as the crab legs) and the patrons are unashamed to take multiple full plates, leaving little for the rest of the line and making you wait for several rounds to get your turn. read more

Pretty good Buffet in the busy Columbus Blvd Penn's Landing area. Tried it for the 1st time,. 1st the likes : The Sushi was very good and fresh tasting, they had Duck which I love, and loved the Dim Sum, Fried Catfish and Seafood Bisque was decent. Other stuff is average Chinese buffet fare. Now the Bad: No Hibachi or Teriyaki bar, boo! A little pricey 3 peeps with sodas was north of 50 bucks with tip (Ouch!) For a dinner that was fare , but for lunch on a Sunday, a little high for Chinese food?! Mob scene in there on a Sunday, with a shaky clientele. Ladies, don't leave your bag unattended! Plenty of screaming brats and families that don't care, so if you want quiet u will want to pass on this place! Parking can get very cramped! Having said all this, and all in all, I'm going 4 stars! It is getting harder and harder to find a decent Chinese buffet in Philadelphia so I appreciate not having to schlep to the burbs if I want to get my Chinee food fix! read more

Food was warm, super greasy, and bland. Perfect for people that don't care to eat good food.

Horrible experience and restaurant. Definitely do not recommend and will never come back. Service was awful and waiters were very rude. They kept rushing people to pay even though they weren't finished eating. The food was mostly fatty and so-so nothing to make you come back. I have eaten here a few times with my family and my son and nephews goes here to eat the crab legs. They had to literally stand in line to get some crab legs. My thing is if you are going to post it on the board that you have crab legs then you should have enough for the customers. Each time they are out there's at least a 10 mins wait and the staff brings out a few crab legs enough for the next 2 people in line. It's really ridiculous. My suggestion- don't put it on the menu or either that give the option for people to pay for the crab legs if they want to order it by the pound. I don't mind paying extra. Several buffet places do that. The food is ok that's why I'm giving this place 3 stars. read more

We have a Christmas Party there each year for family and friends. This year it was 12 of us and 10 of us got very sick from food poison. I was sick for two straight days from throwing up and extreme diarrhea. Can't remember the last time I was that sick. This happen on Sunday evening December 11th, 2016 in case anyone else got sick that night besides us. I suggest you check their inspection report before you go. Ruby Buffet is pretty good. They have a good selection of chinese food as well as a small section of American favorites like french fries and pizza for picky eaters. They have fresh fruit, jello and soft serve ice cream. The restaurant is spacious, clean and the service is pretty good. I'll keep coming back, especially for brunch when there's crab :). read more

The food here is def delicious. Being that i am Asian i have high standards when it comes to Asian food.. Everything i tasted was pretty yummy.. The only negative was the crab legs.. The customers are always standing around waiting for the next batch that i never got to it.. They need a bigger supply if anything .. But other than that .. i liked this place a lot read more

First time experience for me , I have to say I would never go back here again due to seeing a worm in my friend's plate while my friends was eating oysters . God knows where it came from ! The Ruby Buffet has been a 'go-to' place for me since they opened. Lately it has been the 'go-to' place for myself and my wife on holidays. We don't have any children to worry about so off we go to the Ruby... Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and Easter and proceed to stuff our faces! Please don't take this the wrong way but when you see so many Asian people eating in an Asian restaurant you know it's a decent spot! Usually they have a "special holiday" Seafood Menu on most holidays except Easter (check their site for holidays), which incudes Lobster in some type of a ginger sauce that's very sticky. However, if you want the Lobster prepare to stand in line and wait for it to be refilled, also an attendant will sever that particular dish to you. I've tasted this Lobster and it's not even worth the wait with so many other great items on the menu. Same thing applies to their Crab Legs, be prepared to wait in a line... people love to swoop down on the Crab Legs like ravenous birds of prey! When the Ruby Buffet has their "special holiday" Seafood Menu checkout the often overlooked Stone Crab Claws (also cooked in the same sticky ginger sauce as the Lobster). The Stone Crab Claws are as good as it gets if you don't mind the sticky fingers; personally I prefer my Stone Crab Claws served cold on a waterfront table in the Florida Keys but when in the ghetto one gets ghetto-fabulous! Since I've been going to the Ruby Buffet since they opened I know what I like and being a creature of habit that is what I go for! Make sure you checkout their Clams in Black Bean Sauce, pretty good, even though the first one I bit into had some sand in it. Also DO checkout their "hand rolls" every time I've gone to the Ruby their hand rolls have been spot on! Fresh ingredients, and served chilled as they are supposed to be! Don't forget to leave a tip for the Sushi Chefs, they make this food by hand as opposed to the mass-prepared hot dishes on the menu! Overall the Ruby Buffet is a decent Asian food buffet and IMO the best in the South Philly area. Even when crowded my wife and I were led to our table immediately with no waiting. If you happen to use the bathroom facilities don't be surprised to find an absolute mess, and no paper to dry your hands with... then again most people don't even wash their hands after using the facilities? o_0 Do yourself a favor and put a small bottle of hand sanitizer in your pocket if you're heading to the Ruby Buffet especially if you plan on eating anything with your hands... crab legs, egg rolls, chicken, ribs, etc. The ladles and tongs are usually sticky and pretty disgusting. Remember, this place is all about volume and how many times they can turn those tables over in a day, so don't be offended if they hand you your check before asking for it! I have no problem recommending the Ruby Buffet to friends. The food is edible and fit for human consumption, you wont get sick a few hours after, they have a good variety of items to choose from, and don't forget to "people watch"! The "People Watching" is definitely part of the Ruby Buffet experience! lol Have fun! read more

Not what we expected. Most of the hot foods was warm, not hot. Many dishes lacked the traditional Chinese flavor.

At Ruby's now and they're not honoring the 10% discount. They claim 10% discount is or starts at 3:30 which is for first dinner. Service and food selections although diverse lack satisfaction once found. read more

We are here for Mothers Day buffet. They advertised all you can eat crab legs and lobster, however they do not have enough of either. They put them out every 15 minutes, but you never have a chance to get them as people swarm them and some people never a chance to get them. read more

Ok my hubby retires gets a $20 gift certificate as a gift forgot he had it in his retirement papers ‼ it's 1 month pass expiration and 3 of us go there to eat tonight as we have been going there since they haven opened and the manager on duty knows that ‼ we have had several parties there and his employment has had many Holiday get together there ‼ THEY HAD THE NERVE TO TELL IS WE WERE 31/2 weeks LATE and NO DEAL ‼so for $20 that was already in their wallet they turned down $30 more of service ‼ We always take care of our servers and do enjoy the food even though the SMALL amount of crab legs that they bring out serve only 2 people so you need to stand and beg for more ‼ they are not very nice.to their regular guest and when you need information they know how to turn on the I DONT UNDERSTAND YOU real fast ‼and feed you BS crap like the owner lives out of our country and they need to pay the $20 if they accept it ‼Will I go back YES because to eat seafood & dr k my sangria is very reasonable but they better be prepared to have those crab legs ready and don't try to explain their ridiculous rules to me UGH can't people just be NICE and carry on GO BIRDS read more

My family used to frequent this buffet. So much to the point that some of the wait staff would gleefully acknowledge us on site. We would enjoy our experience so much that we would leave at least a 15% gratuity each time even though this is a buffet. The wait staff was so attentive. Well, yesterday we had family up from Maryland to attend the Eagles open practice at the Linc. We all had a great time and we saved our appetite for the buffet. Upon arrival, the sky opened and even with an umbrella, you could not help but get wet. We were seated and greeted by the wait staff who we normally get. One waitress took notice that we did not have our grandson with us (nice touch). We all placed our drink orders and proceeded to the buffet. Once all seated, we began to enjoy our food and each others company. We noticed that the ceiling above us was dripping water. We started getting up and one of the hostesses and our waitresses came to help move us (six adults) to another table. They apologized for the inconvenience. We began enjoying ourselves and one of the waitresses accidentally tripped and spilled three cups ice water, root beer and fruit punch on my partner. She was a sticky, very wet mess. The waitress was very apologetic and gave her a hand towel to help clean herself up. She was drenched from her face down to her shoes (feet). Needless to say, she lost her appetite but did not want to spoil the good time of everyone else so she decided to grin and bare it. Well, when the check arrived, she noticed that there was no acknowledgement or compensation for her incident nor for the inconvenience of our getting dripped on from the ceiling and having to pack up and move. She approached the hostess station and asked for the manager. She was told that there was not one there. She explained what had happened to her and the hostess said didn't the waitress apologize and began speaking in another language to someone else. Apology given, but her meal should be comped because of the incident, she was still wet and could not enjoy her meal under the circumstances. The hostess informed her that if she comped her meal, the waitress would have to pay for it. Well, that's something that the customer did not need to know (I guess that was a way to guilt her into not expecting better customer service from management) and if that is their policy, it is unfortunate. She was comped for her meal. Shame on you Ruby's for not taking the lead in this matter:( read more
