Ruby's Fast Food recently has moved from its longtime spot on Montrose to a new location on Pulaski just south of Wilson. Thank You Ruby's for moving even closer to our home! They now have an entrance for dine in and a second entrance for to-go orders. The delicious Filipino dishes like longsilog, lumpia shanghai, and canton noodles are still yummy, and definitely check out their daily specials. We have not dined in yet since we live right around the corner, but I certainly envision dining here with friends one of these days. The costs of the dishes have understandably gone up over the last few years, but I remember the prices were soooo low back in the day. I haven't eaten my food yet because I had to take it to go after waiting 40 minutes while they prioritized the large party next to us. But honestly the worst service I have ever experienced. Had to try Ruby's after a hearing so many positive things about it and it did not disappoint. This is as authentic of Filipino food you can get outside of the Philippines. Dined-in on a weekday (weekday dine in only), Ruby's features a walk up order counter where you can pick from ready made dishes. Food is always good here but I don't recommend ordering for delivery. Delivery is done via DoorDash which is the worst delivery service there is. I put in an order at 12:19 and it was finally delivered at 3:30. First delivery attempt was marked delivered but didn't show up. Called DoorDash only to find out that my order was not even picked up from the restaurant. My food arrived cold and soggy. This is not exactly the restaurant's fault but if you will offer delivery, then use a reliable delivery service partner. I've ordered lumpia shanghai "To Go" from here before but had the chance to actually sit and eat here today. We walked in, and 5 of the 10 tables were full. There was only one server, her name was Tina, and she was exceptional. She sat us down, gave us water, took our order, delivered our food, and check. She did that for ALL the tables by herself, and she was able to do it kindly & efficiently. Bravo! For food, we had the lumpia Shanghai (nice size and perfect crispiness). Hits the spot every time. Their Sinigang is so good I could cry. The chef brought out an extra bowl of soup too. It's the perfect balance of saltiness and sourness. And the veggies are crisp and fresh. Not overly mushy like other places. It cured my soul. Husband gets his favorite dish Tocilog whenever we come. Specifically for halo halo. Three strikes you're out. The quality of halo halo downgraded significantly in the last few years. I don't understand why. They used to take so much pride in their halo halo long ago. They used to even seal the lids with a classy sticker. The last 3 times the presentation and ingredients got worse and worse where instead of a scoop of ice cream they put a dalop of whipped cream and some kind of ube syrup, ingredients were just not right. I think they should take it off their menu because they don't do the traditional Filipino dessert justice. Very disappointed. Even Jolie Bee, Red Ribbon can serve a better halo halo. read more

I've never had Filipino food until now, and damn, all I can say is I've been missing out. Ruby's Fast Food should think about changing their name, because they're not necessarily fast. Perhaps, Ruby's Worth the Wait or (Weight). We had to wait about 15-20 minutes for our order to be ready, but I would wait longer if I had to because it was that damn good. My wife ordered their Pancit with chicken. It was a very delcicous and very filling dish. I don't know anyone that can finish the meal in one sitting! It was very flavorful and the noodles reminded me of fideo. I ordered their tapsilog. Very flavorful dried beef, served with garlic rice and a fried egg. The garlic rice was very delicious and it had the perfect amount of garlic. Not too over powering and complemented the beef very well. The only thing I would have preferred is a less cooked egg so it could be a little runny and add a little more moisture to the dish. We also ordered Lumpia and it was out of this world! This past Saturday, my sister and I and our husbands ate at Ruby's Fast Food for the first time. I'd been looking forward to it because our dad raves about Ruby's (the original location on Montrose) even though he no longer lives in Chicago, and from what I'd heard about the new location on Pulaski the ambiance was improved. We were lucky my sis and brother-in-law (BIL) arrived early because the place was crowded by the time my husband and I arrived at noon. We ordered the lumpia and pork BBQ to start. The lumpia was just okay. I had better lumpia at a New American restaurant in Maine that offered it as an appetizer. The BBQ, however, was phenomenal. BIL and I ordered the tocilog, Sis ordered the bangsilog, and my husband ordered pancit bihon. The tocino didn't use red food coloring, which was fine, just different. It was good, and I liked that the meat was already cut up. The sinangag, on the other hand, needed more garlic. I was served first, and waited for everyone else's dishes to arrive. I noticed the couple next to us had also been served just one dish. My family insisted I begin eating. About ten minutes passed before Sis's and BIL's orders arrived. My husband never got his pancit because the server never placed the order. When the server realized it, they said it would take fifteen minutes before it was ready. By the time the pancit arrived, I was already eating dessert. I ordered taho, and was so looking forward to the taho because it's hard to find in Chicago. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. It wasn't too sweet, which was good, but it was lukewarm and the floating pieces of taho looked like the raw biscuits that come out of a Pillsbury roll. The melon was good, but I only know that because they gave one to my husband for free for not placing his order. The pancit is what should have been free. With only two servers, they were sorely understaffed. I would have rated Ruby's with three stars, but the service was awful. Favorite place for Filipino food, and the prices are great! They have both a fast food side and a dine-in side. It's also family owned so it really gives off a homey and friendly vibe. I always have to get a stick of bbq pork when I go, there's just something about the sauce that I love and cannot find anywhere else! Their Lechon and liempo (pork belly) are also to die for, super juicy and flavorful, and the sauce on the side is bomb (if you can't tell, I'm most def a pork girl). I've tried Lechon at a couple different places and it's the best here, crispy skin and more than juicy meat without feeling too heavy. And the pork belly is better than any belly at bbq places. My first time at the new location and I must say it is a welcome improvement. They have two separate entrances, one for dine in and one for pick up / to-go orders. Lumpia - Massive portion of long lumpia, extremely tasty and fresh, great crunch and the right amount of filling, definitely get, it's good for at least 4 people. Longsilog (I added an extra meat portion of Tocino for $5) - Both of the meats were excellent, cooked well and absolutely tasty. They offer ALL day breakfast and it does not disappoint. My ONLY criticism is that the garlic fried rice was a tad bit mushy... In prior visits the rice has been cooked perfectly. The two fried eggs are as advertised and quite honestly would be really hard to mess up. Pork Adobo - The gravy was excellent, tasted really good, the only adobo I've had that's better is my mothers but I'm sure a lot of people would say the same, meat was nice and tender, it almost melted in my mouth. Halo - Halo - Really nice and pleasant, can't complain it's great for desert! Overall, this new and improved Ruby's is a MUST visit for anyone who loves Filipino Food the only reason it's not 5 stars is for the garlic fried rice - I wish I could've given it a 4.5. They now take debit/credit card and even offer a 5% discount for those who pay in cash, I will say though, their prices have come up but that's to be expected as they need to adapt. It's both a blessing and a curse that Ruby's is within walking distance of our home, as we maybe go to often. Before COVID, my husband told me they are very crowded on weekends, but we have absolutely loved getting takeout from Ruby's since we are sequestered. Man, the lumpia is probably the best I've ever had. We love their noodles a ton. They are kind, polite and run a slick operation in this time of over-caution, so we appreciate them a ton. I Think their prices are spectacular. If we spend less than $15 for our dish-of-choice and lumpia, we eat it for at least two days. Usually, on day three, we still enjoy leftovers, but add something. Interior: Small place with about 6 tables. The people that worked here were quick to clean each table after individuals left. People were continuously coming in and out always busy. Food: came in on a Saturday which they offer a buffet with certain items. My boyfriend got the buffet he enjoyed all the chicken sides. I ordered the pancit bohin and the halo halo. The halo halo came out quick I would say about 3 minutes after sitting and was really good. We also order a chicken skewer which was very flavorful and that we enjoyed.
