From the moment you walk in, you are greeted and seated. Take out you are offered water and a sit at the bar. The BEST part.......the FOOD. OMG I ave been trying Indian food everywhere I go. I am done wasting my money. I go to TAJ and get a meal that I split into 3 meals for me. Rice comes with your dish (most places charge) My favorites: 1. Methi Malai Chicken 2. Butter Chicken 3. Went here for the first time today. Ordered Navratan Korma with naan and raita. Received complimentary rice and papadum to enjoy. Our food was hot, fresh, flavorful and perfectly spiced. We live in LA and visit family in Folsom a few times a year. Taj Grill is our go to for Indian food! We crave this place! Everything we order is always so fresh and delicious. Coconut curry chicken and the Dahl are 2 of my favorites. You must add the mango chutney too! They have a naan in a variety of flavors that comes hot and freshly baked. We tried Kashmiri naan - this naan has pick stuffing inside which is made of dry fruits powder l, some dry coconut, funnel seeds and some other spices. This naan tastes mildly sweetish. A fun experiment. Overall food is just ok. We ordered everything medium spicy but it was too mild for my Indian taste buds. The service is super slow here so come only if you have no rush. We came here with hungry appetite after whole tournament day and got frustrated. The server was very polite and his smile helped us to keep our cool. We did not realize that entry comes with complimentary rice. So when it came, I said I would like to order daal tadka for it. For some reason, Yelp put a spotlight on my previous low review of Taj Grill, so I prioritized making a 2nd visit to see if I could up my rating. Fortunately and happily, I can! I ordered 2 entrees and naan. When dining in, you receive COMPLIMENTARY PAPADUM, a thin, crispy vegan, gluten-free wafer/cracker/chip made of lentils seasoned with spices. For my first visit, I received 1 papadum. On my 2nd visit, I received 2 papadum, perhaps because I ordered 2 entrees? Fun and unique to eat. You get Tamarind Chutney as a dip. You can also order more from the menu. COMPLIMENTARY RICE accompanies your entrees, so you don't have to order it separately! Garlic Naan is a recommended customer favorite. It looks delicious with its yellow color and herbs. Taste was just OK to me, but I'm not a huge bread fan. I definitely needed to eat it with curry. I would probably enjoy the stuffed naan choices more, like Aloo Paratha (potato), Cheese Pizza Naan, Goat Cheese Naan, or Murg Naan (chicken). Because I can't handle too spicy and I asked about popular dishes, my server suggested these Vegetarian and Chicken Entrees: * Baingan Bhartha (eggplant with peas & herbs baked in clay oven) * Saag Paneer (paneer, spinach, mustard greens) * Navratan Korma (mixed vegetables in creamy cashew sauce) * Paneer Tikka Masala (paneer in creamy tomato sauce baked in clay oven) * Methi Malai Paneer (paneer with fenugreek in creamy sauce) * Chicken Tikka Masala (chicken marinated 24 hr in a yogurt sauce) * Butter Chicken (chicken in creamy tomato sauce baked in clay oven) Seems like Paneer is popular and yummy! I ordered dishes familiar to me: Chicken Tikka Masala and Aloo Gobhi, which I can't find at every Indian restaurant. The cauliflower in Aloo Gobhi seemed overcooked. Although I ordered the Aloo Gobhi mild, it still had too much spice for me! I was hunting for water and naan to cool myself down. The server kindly brought me a sample of Raita, a yogurt with cucumber, carrots, and mild spices, to help me. Surprisingly, the medium Chicken Tikka Masala was more tolerable to me, perhaps because of the cream. This entree contained about 8 chunks of boneless chicken and lots of sauce. At the end of your meal, you get a COMPLIMENTARY DESSERT of your choice: * Ice Cream (I was offered mango, but I also see strawberry, chocolate, and cookies & cream on the menu) * Gulab Jamun (donut holes made of cheese soaked in honey rose syrup) * Rasmalai (Indian cottage cheese balls spiced with cardamom in clotted cream) * Kheer (rice pudding cooked with milk, cardamom, and dried fruits) I enjoyed the Gulab Jamun very much. He was totally funny but also really helped with ordering and describing the food. And believe or not, told us we were ordering too much. This was our first visit, and we absolutely loved everything we ordered! We started with the Aloo Tikki Chaat and the dal soup, both were delicious, but the Aloo Tikki Chaat was the true standout. After reading so many rave reviews about the naan, we had to try it for ourselves, and it definitely lived up to the hype. We ordered the garlic, plain, and cheese naan, and every one was fantastic. Each order is four pieces so we had lots leftover. I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the naan selection! For our entrées, we had the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Butter Chicken, and both were absolutely divine. Impressive new Indian spot!! During a late evening errands run, my lady and I found ourselves seeking a meal in Folsom. We searched Yelp and Google for a while and came across Taj Grill. After a brief conflab we were off to explore this new to us restaurant. It was fairly busy on a Saturday evening at 8 and our table was ready in under 10 mins. Shortly after being seated we were provided water and papadum (type of a cracker appetizer made of lentils). Very flavorful stand alone but also delicious with the tamarind chutney that was served with it. Got Veggie Samosas along with dal soup. Both were amazing. We ordered up a few main dishes that came with rice: Navratan Korma - delicious Paneer Tikka Masala- fantastic Tai Special Lamb Curry- really really good. Couldn't have Indian food without some garlic naan! Cooked perfectly and very flavorful. They told us they make like 14 different kinds of naan so when we go back we will ask about the others. It's my mom's birthday today and she really wanted Indian food so we decided to try out Taj Grill , and I couldn't have been happier w our experience here ! We started with the samosas, they tasted homemade and I was tempted to order more to take home since I haven't had a fresh samosa in a long time . Next we ordered: Prawn Coconut Butter chicken Biryani rice (prawns included) Goat Cheese Naan & to drink on the side: Mango Lassi & Chai Tea. Everything was so tasty , and fresh! Too many great Indian restaurants in Orangevale. Each is a little different, so I'll go into a little more detail with this one. I almost never review takeout because you miss a lot of what separates good from great, but it also leaves just the food to review. The sales side was great, easy to work with, clear and very personable. The samosas are huge. Great crispy texture, filled with the usual goodness, but with enough texture that each bite is a revelation. The sauces are well matched and not too sweet. Very flaky and fresh. I went for the Taj traditional lamb curry med as what I see is a real test of a kitchen. It was tender but not too soft. The spices rich but not overly spicy. Just right. Surprising, my favorite was the Chicken Tikka Masala med. I'm not a huge fan of chicken to begin with. But, the texture and the flavor of the chicken was perfect and the spices were perfect. Definitely try this dinner. We also had the naan, both the garlic and the green pepper. Both had the right flavors and perfect with the dinner. We split on the thickness, maybe a little too thick. Minor issue if any. The complementary rice was perfect and the meal fed 2 adults, twice. The containers were well wrapped so no spills, and standard size. I'm torn. There are two really good local competitors. I guess I'll have to come back and try some more. read more

Excellent Indian food. The food was delicious and very generous portions. Also the service was nice, they are so kind. We had a 4 year-old with us who was really antsy because she was hungry and they kindly rushed her food. We had the samosa chaat, mango chicken (for the kid), chicken tikka masala, seafood mix tandoori, cheese naan and spinach naan. Everything was great but the shrimp in the tandoori was incredible, next time I would do the shrimp tandoori rather than mixed. The spinach naan was the BEST. Ate lunch here with my husband a few days ago. Service was very kind and friendly, but it was slow (unrushed). It was about 10 minutes before we were asked if we were ready to order, and fully 30 minutes after ordering before we received our food. It could be that they make things from scratch (it was not busy). I had Goat Vindaloo, ordered extra spicy. It was hot, but honestly not as hot as I expected. The vindaloo had a deep red shade, and seemed sweeter than I've had elsewhere. There were several pieces of goat, with largish bones attached, along with potato chunks. It came with Basmati rice, and I shared an order of Tandoori Roti (asked for no butter). My husband had the Vegetable Jalfrezi (which also came with Basmati rice), ordered Medium spicy. Unlike me, he found his a bit spicier than he'd expected, but loved it at that level of heat. He said it had delicious flavor, and a good amount of veggies (mostly big chunks of potatoes, but also onions, peppers, carrots, and peas). There was exactly one cube of something, which looked like Paneer (must have been vegan paneer as it was a vegan dish). They offer a lunch Thali Mondays - Thursdays, though I was told that if I asked for it on Friday, they'd likely make it then. It seemed a bit expensive to me (currently $22.99) compared to other Thalis in Folsom, but it's hard to say without actually having had it yet. They have a pretty extensive menu, with prices similar to other area restaurants. Overall, it was a very nice meal. read more

They always deliver!!! This place is consistently delicious and consistently provides great customer service. Last night I had the best bowl of creamy savory lentils I have ever had. The Dal Makhani was phenomenal, the flavor was on point. The chicken tikka masala was delicious and perfectly spicy as always. The lamb is always tender and perfectly cooked. The samosas are crispy, and flavorful, a must try, but you have to try the samosa chaat... soo delicious and packed with soo much yummy goodness. My friend and I enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Taj Grill, today. I planned on ordering enough to take home, so we had a good selection, to share. The samosas, and pakora, were good, though perhaps a little overdone. Everything else was excellent, with great care given to the requested "heat" ... we had mild saag paneer, and mixed lamb/chicken tandoori, plus medium chicken tikka masala. The raita balanced things nicely. The parantha, and pompadom, were both good. A couple of Taj beers went well with the meal, and a small dish of mango sorbet, and a gulab jaman were the perfect end to our very tasty lunch. The restaurant is nicely decorated, and very clean.
