Everything we tried was fresh and flavorful. We ordered the rava dosa, VIP and filtered coffee--both were excellent--and were even sent off with two delicious desserts: kheer and rava kesari! However, during my visit today, I noticed that the spoons have been changed to a much lower quality plasticware. I wanted to share a quick suggestion: please don't let a great customer experience degrade for what is likely very little savings. I recently went to an Indian wedding that opened up my taste buds to a whole new world of cuisine -- South Indian vegetarian food! I loved everything that I tried, but many of the plates were ones not typically offered at your standard local Indian restaurants, so I was thrilled to hear about Mylapore. We got the Ghee Masala Dosa which was incredibly fragrant with an ideal delicate airy texture, and came out looking absolutely massive... I didn't expect to finish the whole thing but less than 10 minutes later, only crumbs were left :3 I think my favorite dish of the night though was the idly/pongal/vada combo-- the pongal was especially homey and comforting, warming up my soul on an unusually frigid 40-degree evening in Sac. Admittedly most items here are pretty carb-heavy, so it was nice that our items each came with a side of lentil soup to balance out the meal. Ambiance is casual, fast-food/cafeteria style making it great for families with kids, which was the predominant demographic we saw dining in tonight. While Folsom is the OG location, they have a handful of locations scattered throughout the Bay area with their newest location set to open soon in Sunnyvale. Fingers crossed they open a Sac location someday so I can satisfy my South Indian food cravings on a more regular basis! Pro-tip: if you're visiting during the holiday season, Ledgemont Court is only a 10 min drive away where you can take a nice little post-dinner stroll to walk off all those carbs while enjoying holiday lights :^) read more

It was my first time, and I pass by here all the time. We had an okay experience. The food we ordered were amazing! Got the special mylapore dosai and I really liked the fillings and the sides it came with. We also got the mega tiffin, which was kind of similar to the mylapore special. Wish we had ordered a different dish to try out different things in the menu. The staff forgot our masala chai and mango lassi drinks but understandably so because they were busy during dinner hour. This place has a lot of interesting options, as it is south Indian cuisine specifically so we were not familiar with that many dishes. Due to this, I wanted to try the lunch Thali which is a sampler plate of 9-10 different curries and small dishes, plus rice and a puffed cracker. Out of these, I loved the potatoes and the sweet cornmeal dessert. Also tried out a dosa, which is like an Indian version of a thin crispy crepe served with curries. The food here is amazing and so filling. Everything is vegetarian and they have quite a bit of vegan options as well. The lunch platter came with sooo much rice and side curry's and what not. They brought extra of anything you finished which was nice. Lots of people show up for the lunch platter around 12/12:30 so if you'll want to come early as they will run out sometimes. The atmosphere is family friendly there were many families enjoying a meal together and all the servers were so nice and accommodating. I would deff recommend this place for authentic Indian cuisine. We went for dinner on Saturday night around 6:30 PM and the restaurant was getting busy. We were lucky to be seated immediately although we had 6 people in our group. We ordered the food at the cashier and the server brought out the food quite fast afterward. - Samosa: good. The crust was crispy and the filling was well seasoned. It was quite spicy. - Samosa chaat: good. The spice was very good. The samosa crust gave nice crunch to the dish. - Dosa: dosa was crispy and delicious. The lentil side dish (sambar) was just okay. Walking into chaos is how I would describe this place. The seating capacity does not make sense, you shouldn't have to wait in line twice, once to get a seat and then get back in line to place a food order, which then takes 30-40 min to get, so now you have a place of people just sitting and waiting. There definitely needs to be improvements here. The food looks okay but nothing I would wait over an hour for. Lots of dosa places around town. The workers looked stressed because people are complaining, about tables and seating and since there is no ordering at the table you have to get back up to order additional items. So potentially a third time in line. It's noisy , overall clean but just hectic. read more

I don't understand these reviews. Given the sheer number of positive reviews including some that said that the food was so good that they felt they had died and gone to heaven, husband and I went here with lots of expectations and were mostly disappointed. First, their system is unclear - do you order and then get seated or do you get seated first? No clear instructions are provided. Second, once you figure out that you order first and then get seated, the wait to get the food is quite long. The servers looked exhausted. I don't know if this restaurant was extra busy today because of memorial day or if this is their norm. If it is their norm, they really need more servers because the ones working the floor today looked like they needed a break yesterday. Third, the food comes out in bits and pieces. Every single table, including ours, had one item that had come out first and people waiting for more food or everyone sharing the single item that did come out. This is haphazard planning. You will get more customer satisfaction if you get all the orders for each table together. Now onto the actual food - hubby ordered Mysore masala dosa and I ordered the onion tomato chili uttapam. Overall the food was very average. I have been to south Indian restaurants before where I have been blown away. I was not blown away here. It is fine. Nothing wrong, just nothing to rave about. The Mysore masala dosa was quite plain with very little powder on the inside. What bothered both my husband and I most was the quantity of the masala. The quantity was probably enough for 4 bites of the dosa. That is not a masala dosa. Please put more masala in your dosas! The taste of the masala itself was also average. Dosas, especially masala dosas, are usually very filling. This one was not and husband was still hungry when my uttapam finally came. The uttapam was also pretty average. I expected it to be filled with onions, tomatoes and chilis but it was not. There were two uttapams in the plate which was actually nice because one would not have been sufficient for me, let alone my still hungry husband. Among the accompaniments, the chutneys were decent and the sambar was good, but the quantities were also very less on each of them. Our filter coffees were completely different from each other. Husband's was good - decent amount of coffee powder, exact amount of milk and froth. Mine had some much more milk that it appeared almost white. Needless to say, I was disappointed with the coffee. All in all, we would have been way more disappointed with this place if we had to wait 30+ minutes for a table and then eat the quality of food we had. I don't know if there are better south Indian restaurants in Sacramento, but this is definitely not high up on my list of good south Indian restaurants across California. read more

This review is exclusively for the Folsom location only. We have been customers of the mylapore Folsom location for more than a decade so know a lot about three transformation of the small and humble place to a multi location juggernaut capturing Bay area's heart. For us though the Folsom location has a special place as it is our small detour spot to have a good lunch/dinner on the way or back from Tahoe. Especially such an authentic place is great when you started as a bachelor. Today especially was a special moment. Coming on a Sunday I was very sad to know that due to extreme demand rice ran out so I can't have the lunch thaali or as I fondly call it. Was almost forced to order something else when the manager of the location came running saying "Sir, rice is ready" . Thanks to him I was extremely satisfied and leaving for the next part of the drive as a happy customer.
