Wow!! Where do I begin, this place has turned into a nightmare over night. First off they do a "FREE" (lol) CT of your mouth but if you need to go somewhere else for care or your insurance doesn't cover it they will not give you a copy. So much for what's best for the patient, it's all about greed and money money money. This is why we pay so much for health insurance, this exact reason. So they give a free scan, your paying for your visit and what work your getting done but they hold it hostage even is it's for the best interest of the patient. Second, if you have insurance do not go here, they are going to charge you just like you were cash pay, you won't save anything. Third, they will give you a price on the phone but after you're in the chair the price will go up. I think this place must be ran by the Jews, it's a good guess. I have been seeing doctor roman for years, literally. He did my first exam at 5 years old and I am now 31! Him and his team are absolutely amazing and I will never go anywhere else. I used to love this practice. So many changes (not for the good!). I was quoted one amount then when finished it was substantially higher with an explanation of I was quoted the basic and I unknowingly was upgraded. This happened twice and on the third time I'm done! The way they handle the "new" practice is awful and the front staff come off extremely rude. read more

Dr. Roman and his staff are extremely friendly and professional. I've been going to them for a very long time and have never had any issues. They are knowledgeable and helpful whenever I needed to go to them. When I brought my son (2 years old) to get his teeth cleaned for the first time, Jacob was able to play with him and make him feel comfortable enough to where he was not scared at all. After he was done he was offered tokens to the toy machine where he got bouncy balls and was very happy afterwards. This was a great experience and I know he will remember going to Dr. Romans office! Years ago a friend recommended Dr. Roman when I was looking for a dentist. I loved that he is honest and won't make up stuff you need to do just to make money. I ended up switching insurances so left his practice. Recently, when we moved back to San Diego I was trying to find a new dentist I could trust and then remembered Dr. Roman. So me and my husband have been using him and my kids will start using him soon since they no longer require a pediatric dentist. Dr. Roman & Jacob Roman. I have been a dental patient of Dr. Roman's for over 20 years. I was not sure if should subject my Dentist to potential torture....... I don't know how Dr. Roman and Jacob Roman pulled it off, but I wanted to thank them for handling my 99 Year Old Grandmother. As you might imagine, my Grandmother is a very difficult (actually impossible) person to deal with. No one can ever do any thing right, or is worthy of praise, or even existence, until Dr. Roman and Jacob Roman. I almost fell out my chair when I heard my Grandmother was signing their praises and is looking forward to returning as soon as possible. Reception explained to me they are 'not taking new patients due to the 'COVID' thing' and we are booked out for 2 months. She said maybe in August they might consider taking new patients. Very kind staff but I don't believe this is a trustworthy place to receive appropriate care. I recently broke a tooth and decided to go through a consultation with Dr. Roman since the dentist I have been going to for 10+ years was out of town for a while. Dr. Roman immediately stated that not only did I need a crown, but that I had at least one cavity in EVERY tooth that needed to be addressed. My current dentist is very conservative but not to the point where that wouldn't be addressed if it was actually true, so I immediately became suspicious. Especially since this doctor claimed he also considered himself to be "conservative" and was very convincing. I decided to wait for my dentist to return and I'm glad I did because he laughed at the suggestion that I needed that much work done after taking his own x-rays. Im sure this practice provides great results but it definitely feels as though they tried to upsell me (by a lot). I don't even need a crown, but maybe that's due to the equipment they have available. read more

I had an appointment today to look at a tooth that has been bothering me for a very long time ( again ). He ( Dr. Roman ) told me I needed to get my wisdom teeth out, so I did. I knew they needed to come out, but the tooth in front has always been an issue. When I got my teeth cleaned, he had me bite down on some blue paper, and he filled it down ( the crown that HE did ), and weeks ( months ) later, its still sore and sensitive, nothing has changed, maybe even worse! So after waiting for an appointment ( this appointment was confirmed), his office called me and tells me to go back to the oral surgeon who extracted the wisdom teeth. They literally canceled the appointment on me without checking on the issue with the tooth he has worked on!! I told the lady on the phone I had already done my follow-up with him ( the oral surgeon ) . Its not him its the tooth in front. Again it has always has been a problem. I pleaded with her to honor the appointment just look at it! I cant keep taking pain meds.. Its tearing up my tummy. Nope, she said he won't even take five mins on a scheduled visit to look. An appointment I waited for. I asked for a referral to have another dentist look at it. She was cold and said sorry. No, we can't help...... Good luck! Or just wait it out. Dr. Roman said to tell you over time, it may get better... REALLY???? My whole family has been going to him for years and years. We will all being finding a new dentist. He wont even look at his own work, just five mins, please! They take no responsibility, never have, and we have let it go too long, all of us. A little time, empathy, honor your appointments, check your work, check for new issues?? ( and take my money ) goes a long way. Do not go here. Its not the same place it was when they cared about their patients. They have changed. So sad. We found a dentist that will take me ( and our family ), and BTW the oral surgeon reviewed no issues with the simple extraction months ago.... its your dentist that needed to at least see you... No kidding.... Dont wait until you need them. They will let you down and tell you to suck it up. Heaven forbid they gave you a referral anytime in your life. It will be their fault. I don't leave reviews that often but for Dr. Roman and most importantly Jacob I had to. I hadn't been to the dentist in a shamefully long time. I was scared. I am a big baby when it comes to the dentist. Jacob was SO nice, so non judgmental and so professional. He took a really hard situation and did what he could for me. It was a bad situation I created and he was kind enough to help me navigate it. As for Dr Roman I don't know him very well but his reputation in my community is impeccable and he must obviously foster a climate of kindness and professionalism because that is how the entire office is run. Great Dentist, we've made our rounds with a few Dentists, just out of proximity since we've moved from Santee. I'll refrain from some horror stories, with my Wife and two daughters and other Dentists. You'd think Coastal San Diego would have some good Dentists, but we had a tough time finding one... But we've come back years ago to Dr. Roman, and to this day don't look back. Dr Roman is the real deal and his staff are superb. This review could have been put in a few years back, with their exceptional Service, but recently I had a Toothache on a Sat. Got lucky and got an appt on Mon (Same week, Columbus Day). Xray showed a Cavity and a potential for a Root Canal. Pain was pretty bad. Dr Roman and staff took care of it quickly (root Canal) and placed me on a week of Anti Biotics. There was an infection and when Dr. Roman removed the Cap, pretty nasty smell. Infection could have been bad with a swollen face...Sometimes it's better to be Lucky than Good and yes, absolutely applies to Dr Roman, Both! Not just good but Great. Talk about being in a crisis and quick resolution regarding pain. Dr. Roman and his Staff, winner winner winner. Great etiquette and manner when you're in the chair. Dr. Roman if you're reading this, wish I could talk more, about football, but unfortunately i've got a bridge in lol. His Staff are very friendly and actually greet you. I have been going to Dr. Roman for at least 15 years. He is the best dentist I have ever had, extremely personable staff. He has never hurt my mouth and has done crowns, fillings etc. My teeth have never looked better. In regards to one bad review, the teeth cleanings have always been painless too. But I keep my mouth really clean so it's pretty basic and fast. Always very pleasant and happy. I especially love the TV in the ceiling, distracts me from the work going on. I have always been a dentist dreader, but I look forward to my annual cleanings and feel I always leave there in much better shape and don't worry about bad teeth or painful work anymore. read more

Extremely nice doctor very nice office space and the staff was all outstanding I came in for an emergency visit with an abscess tooth and excruciating pain they took me right in and got me taken care of with 2 root canals and 2 crowns for a very decent price it was still hard to cover the cost but at least they were super nice and could get me right in very pleased with the level of service. Update,,, my husband just got sent to collection for a bill that he paid in full. When we brought up my husband was in the ER after his filling from an infection they wanted nothing to do with giving him antibiotics and said it had nothing to do with there dirty instruments when the ER doc and our lawyer has dictated a complete report. Have a Schmuck of a collection agency try and treat you like crap when you prove them wrong will get you sued, also fraudulent billing and coding which thanks to past patients and these reviews we are able to compile a lawsuit against this office. Sorry to say but you'll get caught sooner or later especially doing unnecessary work while we had our decoys examined before entering your care. The front desk staff helped answer some of my basic questions which really put my mind at ease. The dental hygenist Lori was great and made things easier on me with her excellent communication skills and sense of humor. Dr. Roman was also great, with a positive attitude and a clear love for his profession. His communication skills are also top-notch, and when you meet him you'll know you're in good hands. The worst and the most fraudulent billing I have seen right in front of my eyes. This review is coming from now my 6th visit, not coming from my first impression. My wife has been going there so I started going and this is the way it works. No matter if you have the best insurance they will find a way to stick you with a high cash bill on top of the fact. The dentist has his assistant doing a job that it way out of her scope of practice. To give you an example, The tech was molding my tooth for a temp crown and than just gave up and put this foil generic cover over my tooth which then came off 3 days later, which was followed up with phone calls and made than cancelled appointments. Oh I would like to mention that I made 3 appointments for my final fitting of my crown and all 3 times they called and had to reschedule because the dentist (not a doctor) would be out of town. I tried following up multiple times and than I got this collection agency notice in the mail from them stating I still owe money and instead of calling me or sending me a bill it went right to collections of money that I never even new I owed. But back to the fraudulent billing/office, if you go you'll notice that after the dentist examines you, the finances lady than does her job which is combining coding for both ends , he leaves the room and after you been given a shot to numb that area in your mouth and after they know how much pain your in they use that as a strategy because they know you need them and your in a vulnerable state. This woman than proceeds to go over your insurance and than off course what my bill will be from them. To give you a scenario; I had 2 teeth side by side that were bothering me from a small trauma and the dentist tells me that he just has to put one shot in and it will be one extraction because the teeth were ready to come out and it would be easy, we'll..... what do u know, here comes the finance lady that's telling me it would be $280 for both teeth after I've already been given a shot and also to add I called the day before to get an cash estimate because at this time didn't have insurance and she told me they could help me out since my wife goes there and could do it for $80. As it goes for the dental assistant shes doing most of the molding, picking at teeth as the dentist jumps from one room to another. I'm very familiar with the policy, procedure and scope of practice of 'techs' and having her finish up my root canal, than later just giving up because obviously she didn't know what she was doing with no supervision on implanting the correct temp crown. I am now stuck with an outrageous bill, my tooth exposed, 3 cancelled appointments and now all sudden a collection account from an agency. I talked to my insurance and they said everything should of been covered and the cap I should of payed is $110 but instead the dentist office seemed to manipulate the codes and come up with me owing $600+ on top of my good insurance. I know how the coding works too, if the tooth is starting to be 'to hard' for the dentist they can up-code it as 'difficulty' and your fee goes up, also scratching on other teeth or filling a tooth that is in the same area of the local anesthetic is also a way to bundle and up charge. This is no joke so be aware that the lady that comes in after the dentist exams you to talk about the financial part is like a car salesman, she already put together a spread sheet of numbers and her job is to make the dentist as much money as she can not take care of you,, this dental office is strictly a business not for patient care. They know how the games played and play it well. My insurance company is already filing papers to the state board and I have to follow it up with the multiple incidences, also since my wife has been going there we went back over her past bills and our insurance said this is definitely fraudulent billing and we were able to be applied with a state case worker that is doing an investigation. The place may look nice and the dentist knows what he's doing but they also know how to make sure they get you at both ends,,, cash in their pockets and money from your insurance even though your insurance would of covered your procedure 100%. NEVER GIVE A PATIENT LOCAL ANESTHESIA WITH OUT KNOW WHAT THE FINANCES ARE. ! No office should call to cancel your appointments on 3 separate times and than make it look like the patient failed to show up. I think they upped my bill out of spite because when I than had to go to another dentist it was followed by a collection agency which I didn't authorize any charges, no show fees? Crown fee? Really? He's a dentist not a doctor so that should tell you the first thing about the practice.. I do believe it's says 'DDS' not 'MD', some practices still have a heart for the patients, other offices like this shows the business and shows that your just a number not a patient. read more

Each time I have had a different dentist and i have felt totally comfortable with each one. The office is very friendly and professional. As soon as I come in for my appointment I am checked in within 5 minutes and taken to the back; no waiting around unlike other offices I've been to.
