Came here on a July Friday afternoon. I got out of the car to pay for order, which is cash only. Apparently if you just stay in your car someone will come to your car take your order and bring your food. I ordered a 16oz root beer and a chili dog for $4. I do not know anywhere else where you can get those two items for $4. The root beer was excellent not to sweet and perfect amount of sweetness to root beer flavor. The chili dog was pretty average no real snap in the dog and the chili was ok. You can get onions and or mustard if you wish, I got mine with neither. This was such a fun experience! I like hot dogs and my friend loves them! We decided to do a little drive to Yipsi and check out this famous little hot dog stop. It's a unique place with an old time vibe. You order from your vehicle and they bring out the trays with your food...kinda like Happy Days. Today was our first time visiting this place. We were met as we were walking through the parking lot to go and place our order at the front window by a gentleman who explained that it is a car hop, and they come to your car and take your order, and also deliver it back to you. He said "this is obviously your first visit?" which cracked us up. He explained the menu in detail, I had already done so after seeing a facebook post about them but my Fiancé had questions, he answered all of them, so we placed our order and headed back to our car with our pup to wait for the meals. We got a plain dog with mustard and a bag of chips, 2 chili dogs with onions, a pup hotdog for our little man Diego, a root beer and a root beer float. I must say, we all loved our hotdogs. The chili dogs were the best I have had since leaving California 14 years ago. Drool worthy! My fiancé loved her mustard dog, and Diego gives 4 paws for his plain dog. The root beer and float! OMG! Seriously?!?! One word only! PHENOMENAL! We will definitely be back, and thank goodness we live a fair distance away, because if they were nearby, they'd get sick of seeing our faces, and I'd be a few pounds heavier than I'd like to be. Quick, simple and to the point coney joint. They take your order at the car (we didn't know this at first) and don't expect them to write anything down. However, our order was 100% correct. 1 chili dog, 2 Loosey's, a bag of chips and homemade root beer was almost $10.00. The food was delicious and customer service was fantastic. It's a walk up to your car service which I'm not a huge fan of, but the prices can't be beat. I placed my order at the window because I was waiting for my daughter (at school) to decide what she wanted after seeing their short menu and the guy who immediately came to my window said he'd be back in a minute but never did. I told the gent what I wanted and he yelled it to another guy in the back. I gave him my cash (they only take cash) and received my change. After I placed my order I went back to the car. He handed me the jug of root beer, and everything was crammed in the bag as it was to go. I checked the order and it was missing a hot dog. I went back to the counter to let him know, and he charged me for it. Now...there's no receipt to verify that this was paid for or not, nor is there a pad to see what was ordered. I just paid the money and left. Overall it's a good place to stop at if you're nearby, and the prices are good - plus you get your food pretty quick. I love this place and it's close to my house. There is no lobby you cannot go inside but what's better than sitting in your car and having someone come up to your window and asking how they can bring you some food and on the cheap? They only serve hotdogs, chips, and drinks. Nothing deep-fried, but the hotdogs are great. They're very meaty. Don't seem overly greasy. The buns are steamed and the Coney's have a nice spice although I would like more meat in my sauce and that's only because I'm used to Flint style coneys and dogs from Detroit which have a more ground hamburger texture. But the sauce is tasty and they don't overload you with onions and you can't beat the price. I got four Coney dogs and two bags of chips for $11 and I got to stay right in my car. Once again, Yelpers come to the rescue! We made a quick trip to DTW to drop off our daughter for a flight, and had a jonesing for chili dogs somewhere between the airport and Kalamazoo. We found this highly recommended place, and made a stop for lunch today. Founded in 1939, this is a definite YELP FIND! Let me tell you - this is one of the best root beer stands we've been to. The extra bonus is that the chili dogs are delicious. The hot dogs are inexpensive, and are a GREAT DEAL. It isn't an all beef hot dog, but it is quite tasty, served in soft bun. On the main hot dog, you can get chili, onions, mustard, ketchup, and relish. Add cheese for 25 cents extra (it is not shredded, but a saucy cheese like you get at a stadium). There was just the right amount of every ingredient - perfect proportions. There are other hot dog options, but we stuck with the original. You will probably want to eat more than one, they are so delicious. Awesome service! There was only one waiter, but he is FAST, friendly, and has an excellent memory (give a great tip!). If he is wearing a fitbit, he's definitely getting his steps in! When he came back around after we finished, he asked if we wanted to order more. I asked if many people did so, and he replied with a laughing affirmative. Nice. The root beer was frosty and tasty. We each got a float and they were amazing. There was a huge scoop of ice cream, along with fresh draft root beer, at a price that can't be beat. You can get it in a to-go cup, or in a frosty mug. GET ONE for each of you - you won't want to share... You can eat in your car, or there are 3 picnic tables on the premises. We don't like to eat in the car, so this was a welcome sight. Tip: Cash only. Come prepared! Lastly, this place is clean and well-kept. It is freshly painted, has a clean parking lot, and is the home of the owner's family that lives right there with the business. You know that this is their life and their passion. There are three houses on the premises - the owner's, a house for the grandkids, and a house for the mom. This doesn't have a lot to say about the food, but it DOES have a lot to say about the people that own and run this business. read more
