INCREDIBLE MEXICAN FOOD!! I went here for my birthday & my friend and I ordered enough for a small family, it was THAT good! Chicken enchilada combo, cheese enchilada combo, beef taquitos, potato taquitos (best I've ever had), crispy chicken taco & a shrimp taco. All of it was flavorful, delicious and cooked perfectly! I would go back every day if I could. The waitress was also a gem & so sweet and helpful. Plus there is tons of seating for people who dine-in, however we got our order to-go and it came out quick for how much food we ordered! Plus the salsa bar is always a great bonus!! read more

One of my favorite eats in town...shredded chicken tacos at Rudy's. You get a discount on Taco Tuesday fyi. They are huge and for myself 1 can make up a lunch or dinner. When I have visitors I always make sure a stop here is one of our meals. Several locations. The downtown one is so festive with flowers hanging from the ceiling and located in such a great location. The Mesa Rudy's is historic, as their first. I like to pop in to the upper State street location for convenience and great parking to pick up a to go order. I was picking up people from the airport and the flight was delayed so we couldn't stop at Rudy's Carpinteria. I stopped in here to pick up some burritos to go instead. I read a couple of reviews that had me a little bit concerned, but overall, it was a good experience the burritos are humongous, although prices have obviously gone up over the years. The food was good. The chicken burrito was a little bit Light on the chicken but was otherwise good. I ordered two chicken burritos and one veggie burrito, only one of the chicken burritos was labeled as such and so I did have to open the other ones to figure out, which was which the only other comment I have is to say that with three burritos and one soda costing around $60(with tip!!!) Wow, just WOW!! My brother and I traveled from Thousand Oaks just to try this place specifically. We were after the super crispy beef tacos. And wow, did Rudy's deliver!! We ordered the most delicious extra crispy tacos with tender shredded beef. The mound of lettuce and cheese was outstanding, this style of taco is hard to come by nowadays. The portions were huge, coming with fantastic rice and beans as well. The salsa bar had wonderful options, the house salsa and this avocado-style salsa were my favorite. We got our food super quickly, both the server and employee taking our order were happy and so helpful. Such a cute restaurant with authentic, quality food. I was enjoying my meal so much I forgot to take a photo.. but we came home with leftovers that I can't wait to dig into. I will make the hour drive just to come back here! read more

I have ZERO Idea why this place is only rated a 3 star because literally every plate of food that came out of the kitchen looked insanely good! We ordered 6 crispy tacos and if you're into hard tacos then you know about Chuy's tacos dorados and Tito's tacos in LA. Well, Rudy's is right at the top of that list as one of the BEST! Crunchy, flavorful meat and packed to the brim with lettuce and cheese. A thing of beauty. Seriously, if you want a humongous, flavorful, crunchy taco, go to Rudy's! 3 star? What a joke. There is one cabinet that displays the tools used to make corn tortilla. The service was very prompt and cheerful. Visiting from San Jose and didn't expect to be this impressed!!! The carnitas nachos were super good and loaded, and the churros were insane-especially with the caramel. Staff were really friendly, salsa bar was great, and we even had leftovers. $32 bucks for nachos , churros and a single beer . Definitely recommend!!! read more

Rudy's is a cute little spot I pop into once in a while when I'm craving Mexican food and it never disappoints. It's a small chain owned by a local family so I love that aspect! The service is always friendly and fast, but it hasn't been very busy when I'm there admittedly. I got a classic burrito with shredded chicken and the portions are huuuuge! Definitely a good amount for the price. Great agua frescas, I had the cucumber pineapple lime and it was so yummy. The interior is decorated and has some charm but overall it's a bit lacking. Not the best Mexican food in the area but the rice and beans are fire and the chicken was seasoned well. Solid 8/10 dinner and I will be back! read more

After years of being a Santa Barbara local and then coming back to visit on every vacation I always go to another restaurant where they make homemade tortillas and had never been to Rudy's. Rudy's blew my mind today! they make homemade handmade tortillas corn tortillas just like my mom's and their Carnitas are fresh& juicy--not greasy just juicy & perfect and the rajas were fresh and amazing! I had one taco for nine dollars and I think they should've charged me . It was super super packed with meat and very filling with just one taco. highly recommend never to miss this spot every time I come back to Santa Barbara! You can tell its high-quality ingredients & the food is cooked fresh! The seating was super comfortable wide open doors so fresh air comes in & as someone who wants to be not contaminated with everybody else else's germs I like places where I can get fresh air and it feels like I'm sitting outside but I'm actually inside! I had the potato taquitos and they weren't bad but also nothing special. The potato was creamy but the rest was just an oversight. Basically a make it yourself at home kit of basic ingredients. My guess is all pre made ingredients to be able to put in smaller containers and pump out quickly. Sour cream, avocado, salsa and some lettuce, tomatoes. Not bad but not great just ok. Ordered three chicken tostados beans and chips. The beans and chips were ok but the tostados were filled at the bottom of the shell which liquid from the chicken. Rudy's has and always will be a go-to for me. The staff is helpful and accommodating and the classic burrito with shredded chicken is my favorite: chicken, beans, rice and cheese. If they pay so little attention to their restrooms, I cringe at the cleanliness of their kitchen. On that note, the food also sucked.
