We tried this place on a visit to Tx. It was pretty good. The brisket was very tender and the turkey was delicious! Pulled pork was ok and the jalapeño sausage was fantastic. We thought the beans and potato salad were ok too. Service was really good. They were really helpful to help us understand how the menu worked since we had never been there. Decent ribs place, though a bit on the expensive side for what you get. Or, the bones in the ribs are just big and heavy. I ordered ribs, of course, and what I thought would be a decent sized 1/2 pound of meat ended up being 3 ribs. To me, that's not enough. I ended up ordering another 1/2 pound and got 4 more ribs in just under 1/2 pound. Seems odd. Anyhow, they were tasty. Had a side of sliced potatoes, which was a bit on the watery side, but tasted good. Good selection of bottled beers here. This was my first time trying Rudy's BBQ, and honestly, I wasn't missing out on much. I wasn't impressed. First things first - presentation. I didn't care for how they wrapped the meats. Why not just put them in a proper to-go container? I ordered ribs, moist brisket, new potatoes, and a banana pudding. There were two other orders, and one person also got ribs -- so they just put them together. Now for the food: Ribs: Good flavor, nice and tender. New Potatoes: Completely bland. I had to add some Slap Ya Mama seasoning just to make them edible. Brisket: Way too salty. I haven't tried the banana pudding yet, but really... how bad could that be? read more

I remember Rudy's having decent BBQ for a chain. Granted, I haven't been in a few years. The setup is the same: you walk in, get some of the cold extras out of the refrigerators that are off to the side of the line, then wait to order at the counter. I grabbed potato salad and some banana pudding. When it was my turn to order, the girl taking my order was very friendly and helpful. I was alone, so I didn't want to overorder. I went with 1/4 lb of moist brisket, 1/4 lb of ribs, and 1/2 jalapeño sausage. I took my tray, got some pickles, flatware, paper towels, and my Dr Pepper before finding a table to sit at. This is where the good part ends. Brisket: It was ok... and when I say ok, I mean just ok. I'm grateful that I only got a 1/4 pound because when I first looked at it before tasting it, I thought, that's only four small slices, will that even be enough? I mean, it looked good but, I'm not going to lie. It tasted like it was cooked in someone's crockpot or oven. It lacked the flavor you should get with Texas BBQ. It made my BBQ snob heart cry. After that, I didn't have much hope for the rest of my meal. Ribs: A 1/4 lb will give you one rib. It was covered by the paper they wrap the meat in, so I couldn't see it right away. When I unwrapped it, it was pale looking. I didn't really know what to think, but I figured looks can be deceiving, so I gave it a taste. That was a huge NOPE. It tasted like something chemical was on it. Maybe lighter fluid? But I'm not even sure if they use lighter fluid. Whatever it was, I didn't like it. The rib itself wasn't super tough; it just didn't taste good. Jalapeño sausage: It was decent. Nothing to write home about, and I wouldn't have ordered it if I knew what it tasted like beforehand. Potato salad: I always eat my potato salad with extra pickles. This wasn't bad potato salad. It was probably the best thing that I ate. The pickles definitely saved it. Without them, I don't think I would have eaten this either. Banana pudding: This one was another nope. The pudding looked almost clear. I know that sounds weird, but it wasn't homemade, and I'm not even sure it was a decent powdered pudding. They did put wafer cookies and banana slices in it and topped it with whipped cream, but those items couldn't even save that sad pudding. Rudy's, what have you done to your food? Maybe change it back to better taste and quality. When I'm craving BBQ, there are much better choices. read more

We don't get back to Houston very often, but when we do, a visit to Rudy's is on our to-do list. Just walking into the dining room the comforting smoke in the air told me I was home. We've got a long drive back to Louisville, and Rudy's bbq beats some roadside burger doodle. We bought half a pound of smoked turkey, another half of smoked pork loin and a pint of coleslaw. Authentic BBQ! Meats are full of smoky flavor, tender, and juicy. Came here with a big group and we were able to find seating pretty easily. Place is kept clean and whatever you usually need at a BBQ joint is pretty accessible. Servers were prompt and polite. Wanted to experience an authentic Texas barbecue. Very glad it included a choice of moist brisket.

Got in town yesterday night. Was hungry and I'm on the carnivore diet so needed some beef. Saw Rudy's was close to my hotel. Drove over and ordered 1LB moist brisket the fatties the better and 1/2 sausage. Got it fairly quickly. No bread and no sauce just the meatz!. Got back to hotel got to eating every thing was on point brisket was nice and soft and moist bark was tasty. Sausage was decent nothing special. Didn't eat all the brisket but killed sausage. Save about a pound of brisket for breakfast hotel continental breakfast so I had egg sausage and brisket for breakfast fantastic. I've seen this sign on the freeway a few times but never stopped. I stopped and I didn't regret it. I was greeted with welcoming smiles. The inside reminds you of an old fashioned store. It's colorful. They have drinks in the coolers with ice for you to grab your favorite soda pop The cooler was filled potato salad/ coleslaw and desserts. I tried the coleslaw which was vinegar based and it was good. I tried both sauces. The sassy sauce and the original. Both were good. The turkey was good and so was the brisket. We also ordered turkey by the pound and they offered slices of bread for it. The only thing that I was not a fan of was. This place is right off the freeway. When it's time to exit there is a big cement barrier up and you cannot see the freeway for a good enough distance to clear the exit. I'm pretty sure that someone has crashed here. I'm not sure if the barrier is temporary or not. But Houston traffic and flow of the cars is erratic. This has to be fixed. read more

I cannot lie I am a little addicted to Rudy s bbq sauce. Have been coming to this location for a few years and their BBQ turkey is always fresh and delicious. Service is friendly and love they support military families. Plenty of inside and outside tables to sit when weather allows. Their turkey sausage is also very good and spiced appropriately to my taste . I have been a fan since my college days in San Antonio when we used to do 50 mile bike and smell the BBQ as we passed Rudy's. My hungry cyclist friends would then meet back at our cars and drive back to Rudy's Every time I go to Rudy's I remember those early days . Highly recommend. read more

Rudy's is such a nostalgic establishment in Houston and with several restaurants placed strategically so wherever you are in Houston, if you are having a Rudy's craving, your never too far away. Rudy's definitely has competition but the food across the establishments are consistently good. I've never had a bad experience. My favorite combo at Rudy's is the combination I had growing up- vinegar forward pulled pork, on a dreamed bun, no BBQ sauce, and a delicious sweet and savory coleslaw. Yup, and the coleslaw is a must. I won't eat a pulled pork sandwich without it. Also, when I drop in I allow myself the banana pudding made fresh daily with real bananas on it with a good amount of whipped cream on top. It's just so tasty! I have tried different items like the burnt ends and fatty brisket that is so rich and buttery. The beans are hearty and delicious and the quarter chicken dark meat is surprisingly very good, nice char and smoky! They have a condiment bar where you can get jalapeños, onion slices, and pickles. There are different BBQ sauce available. I've tasted some and they are good but I personally don't think good BBQ needs to be drenched or drizzled with cold BBQ sauce. There are napkins, straws, ketchup, mayo, and mustard at the bar. They have bottled and fountain sodas. The only alcohol option is beer that they put in tubs next to the ordering line. We are West Coasters who love bbq. We saw good ratings for Rudy's and it was great. It looks a like a Texas bbq place should, that's a good start. The staff was friendly and our cashier/order-taker accommodated our special order. The pork ribs were great and the brisket was excellent. There are two types of bbq sauces and both were great. Went to the Katy location for the first time. My husband and I love Texas bbq and you can never go wrong with Rudy's! Always a 10/10 We got the moist brisket and half chicken with potato salad and coleslaw on the side. Both the items were so delicious and soft - melting in the mouth! You have an option to either order a sandwich or make a sandwich of your own and we do that we got the bread slices, onions, pickles and pickled jalapeños and made our own sandwiches! There's a counter where you find these along with cutlery, napkins, condiments, and even ziplocks incase you wanna take any left overs with you! There's a whole lot of options for drinks you either choose a bottle or take it from the machine. There's couple of soda options and beers. The sides can be found in a refrigerator when you line up. Rudy's is mostly busy and that speaks for itself because the bbq is awesome here. The bathroom options are nice too and there's a sink outside to wash your hands inside the restaurant. This location had a cute patio outside and we chose to sit there because of the lovely weather today! This is hands down our favorite bbq spot. Definitely recommend for bbq lovers! read more

This review is for Rudy's catering, of which I was able to eat the catering from this location in February 2023 at the grand opening of a nearby dealership. Rudy's sends out 3-5 employees to serve. They were very efficient, with one person serving meat, one person serving vegetables, and one person refilling dishes and pouring drinks. All of the normal sides were available along with unsweetened ice tea, sweetened ice tea, and lemonade. Their normal sauce and "sissy" sauce are available in sealed, packaged containers. It's probably based on how the catering is ordered, but I've found that the brisket runs out first. People like to be picky with the carrots since they are mixed with the jalapenos, often leaving too many jalapenos and not enough carrots. Rudy's barbecue is nearly always consistent across location, catering, and any other time you might have Rudy's. It's a good consistency. Rudy's effectively sets the baseline for what barbecue should be in Texas. It's not the best, but it's still good barbecue. There's the hint of smokiness in the brisket and turkey and the spice in the sausage, none of which are too dry, that are a good introduction to the world of barbecue. It's not going to be some culinary masterpiece, but it's consistently good at what it does. read more

Terrible! My wife stop to pick up dinner and what we found in the package was burnt, dried-up brisket meat that we wouldn't feed our dogs. The ribs were fine but the BBQ was definitely not the moist that we had asked for. Makes me wonder if they ran out halfway through and snuck in some is the other kind in there because it sure seemed like it. We got a few good pieces on top but as we worked to serve others it seemed like what we got underneath was odds and ends and some is the pieces were dry and hard! The potato didn't have a smoky flavor but when it was all assembled, it was delicious. My husband ordered a brisket sandwich. It was good, but he would just order the brisket by it self next time and will assemble the sandwich with their complementary white bread - better value. We always prefer moist brisket. The sausage is a solid choice. Some must have sides are the green chili stew and cream corn. We were pretty full, but we usually try to make space for banana pudding. It's always a great place to take families and friends who are visiting from out of state. You order at the counter, choose your own seating, and bus your own table. I'm nothing if I'm not honest and fair. I gave a review in April of 2021 concerning Rudy's mail order. It was a rubbish experience. I NEVER thought I would try ordering from Rudy's again....well....never say never. My sweet husband was super hungry for Rudy's bbq. We live in NC, and the nearest Rudy's is in the Florida panhandle. Hence, we tried 2 day mail order via Fed Ex for the brisket. Amazingly, there were no glitches! Brisket shipped on Monday from Houston/Katy and arrived here in W.S., NC on Wednesday .... early afternoon. We have always LOVED Rudy's brisket...always. It was just mail the order thing that was the hang up. I have no idea why back in 2021 they failed so miserably to deliver fresh/frozen vacuum sealed brisket, and now they are able to do very efficiently. Just go figure, y'all! A classic bbq spot in Houston. Came around 1:30pm on a Friday and there was no wait. We had the brisket, pulled pork, jumbo baked potato and creamed corn. The brisket was perfectly cooked and the pulled pork was well seasoned. The jumbo baked potato lives up to its name (we barely ate half). Their regular house bbq sauce is bold and spicy, but they also have a "sissy" sauce for those with sensitive palates.
