One star is generous. They RUINED irreplaceable pieces. We are a military family and have been packed and moved many times. We have NEVER had a problem with any of our moves in the past. Until this one. We are devastated at the lack of care that was taken with our property. We paid for a full pack and move and were told that everything would be packed carefully. Things were left in drawers, clothes and items. They left a laptop (unwrapped) in our sofa table drawer that got so wedged in that we had to take it apart to remove it. They did not empty and pack one drawer, dressers, organizers, cubbies, etc. 10 pieces of paper used on a Lego set and zero paper used on crystal. It was unbelievable! They broke and hid our wrought iron patio set behind a fence at the new house. They broke one of the legs on our traeger grill. We had a $130.00 life sized ceramic nutcracker decoration. They not only broke, but didn't even return all of the pieces. They broke corners off of several pieces of furniture. They completely lost the cord to one of our tvs. We still haven't been able to find & order a replacement. They packed the feet to our entertainment center in 4 different boxes to four different rooms. It took us 3 weeks to find them all. The worst one was a little ceramic fountain that belonged to my aunt. My uncle gave it to me for my birthday the year that she passed away. They broke it and I can't even find all of the pieces to try and glue it back together. DEVASTATING! I thought that because we paid so much money we could trust them. I was so wrong. I've seen our 5 year old nephew pack things with more care than this company did. We have pictures to back all of this up. This company does NOT use trustworthy packers, PLEASE BEWARE! I had a local move done by Ruff and Ready Moving. An estimator came to my house approximately 3 weeks before the move. He and I walked through the entire house and garages as he took notes. Between that time and the day of the move I donated a few pieces of furniture that would have been included by the estimator. So the actual weight of the move should have been less than the estimated. Since the move was only about 15 miles it was planned to be completed in one day by 4 men and 2 trucks. The crew arrived arrived promptly at 9am and we did the paperwork. The crew was polite, professional and very hard working. They wasted no time, which I appreciated, since anything beyond the estimated time is billed as overtime. This crew worked fast and hard and got on the road in the early afternoon. But the timing was such that the trucks ended up in the daily traffic jam. This was not foreseen by the estimator and added an hour of overtime. When the crew arrived at the new house the lead crewman gave me a "heads-up" that they would most definitely be going into overtime. He cited the drive time had been incorrectly estimated and the weight of move was 4000 pounds more than estimated. That's about a 30% miss on the weight estimation. The lead crewman and I came up with a plan to mitigate the costly overtime. I ended up telling the crew to put everything except the large heavy items in the garage. They normally would have put the boxes in the associated rooms as marked, but that takes more time and money. Again during the unloading phase the crew worked hard and did not waste any time. When they were done the lead did some calculations and presented me with a $826 bill for the overages. My complaint is not with crew or the move, but with the estimate. If the estimate had been accurate I would have hired another moving company that had given me a bid. My wife and I are still moving boxes from the garage to their appropriate rooms almost a week later. read more

Stored my mother in laws bedroom set,they lost it for months.They came to pick it up without tools. The lft for 2 hours to get a screw driver. Then they stood around talking. They will give you a low quote, and then after they do the job, it's hundreds more. They misplaced our set and didn't tell use until we wanted it delivered they had us waited on them to bring it, and then they called and that day and said they couldn't find it. We had been paying monthly. I am a cancer patient, and this was very stressful. When the knew they may have to pay for the set and we gave them the cost to replace with a lower price set they told lies like the mattress was stained it was a new mattress with a cover on it. And the dresser was scratched. I have pictures below. My mother, who is now using the bed, waited 14 days on them. The owner never called us back to show he cared at all. Then, after all that, he still charged over $700.00 to deliver and asked for gratuity they tried to hide the fact that they had misplaced the set. This company over charges the team waist time so they can charge extra. Made a move from Oceanside up to Temecula, and the team at Ruff and Ready was amazing. I called on a Tuesday for a Sunday move and they were able to squeeze us in. This is in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic and the movers Cody & Ed were extremely professional, courteous and practicing social distancing and wore ppe (face masks and gloves). One tip for anyone that has not used movers before - pack and label everything this will make the move easier not just for yourself but for the movers and will help save you time and money. They moved me after a leak in my home. Damaged multiple pieces of furniture. They used loving tape on the actual furniture and ripped the veneer. After many attempts to get compensation, they sent me a measly $150 for an unusable entertainment center. They kept one of the drawers and never even brought it back. Such a joke. We filed a claim on our $2500.00, 4 month old, Samsung refrigerator with Ruff and Ready and they sent a check for $165.60! We used this company for our local move. The movers were great and did a good job. That being said our dresser mirror that is very large was damaged in the move. I filed a claim for the damage only to find out because we did not purchase the additional insurance for $45 with a $500 deductible they sent a check for $45. The lowest estimate to repair was just under $200. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE you would think they would want to provide good customer service and cover the repair as a good business standard. If there was an option for no stars that's what it would be. The movers were terrible and the customer service was even worse. I've called and left voicemails but they never call back even though they said they would. My wife and I moved a from 950 sq ft home in san Deigo to a bigger home in Menifee Ca. Most of our stuff was already packed and transferred to our new home ourselves. We left a few things for the movers the most important things being our kids bunk beds (2 sets) and our TVs (2 mounted). I was and still am on military orders so I am away, leaving my wife with 4 small children who is also pregnant. When the movers showed up, my wife informed me that not only did one of them look high like he's been smoking marijuana but smelled like it as well. These movers took over 12 hours to move our home and in the process damaged multiple items. I have about 79 pictures proving that they did. I have Arlo security cameras as well and in the videos you can see them just tossing stuff in the boxes with no care (that including my $400 Arlo security camera set). They dropped my $700 Traeger grill and damaged the chimney on it. I called to let them know and spoke with the manager and they did absolutely nothing. Kept telling me they would call back but never called me nor my wife. I had to constantly call even though I do not have time due to being on military orders I work between 10-12 hours a day during the week from 0600-1800 and where I am I get NO reception at all. They do not want to take responsibility and fix what was done to our property. I started to email the pictures like they asked and someone by the name of Austin replied a few times but now has not responded at all. They don't answer when I call so I will not be playing the back and forth game. They charged my wife and I $2,000 with "their military discounted price." Not only was I disappointed in the sloppy work the movers did, I am more frustrated in the way their customer service hasn't tried to reach out and fix anything. I sent 79 pictures and Austin disrespected me by saying he all of a sudden needs to come out to assess the damages to make sure. Questioning my wife and my integrity is the ultimate disrespect. I don't have time to make false claims when I'm hundreds of miles away and barely have time to talk to my family. Chloe mislead my wife by telling her that they could take down and put up the bunk beds and the tv mounts. When I called and complained they told me it was against their regulations. My wife would not have hired them had we known that for a fact. I have many pictures but a few that I will be post will be of the wall mounts left in our old home and the propane tank for my other grill (gas grill). The grill was outside the movers decided to leave the propane tank (in the open position) inside our old home. We know this because we have a maid who cleans once a week and she was complaining about gas fumes. I NEVER leave my propane tank in the open position, not to mention I have my Traeger grill that they damaged so I haven't even used my gas grill in over a year. I do not recommend this company to anyone. They are crooks and do not have good customer service. If ruff and ready movers are reading this I would like someone to actually respond, I know that's not likely but you guys get no stars from me. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. The work these three men moving our home did I could've have done by myself in 6 hours or left. In the videos I have on Arlo it shows them standing around on their phones and loading up not even a quarter full amount of stuff in the boxes they charged us for. They were milking the clock. These guys are scammers and I want justice for over paying for shit service. So I must add in this that I've been on military orders again and finally put away everything while coming home to help my pregnant wife. Ruff and Ready movers gave us a measly $36 check for ALL the damages even thought it was well over that. Maybe I'm the outlier (I find myself typing this entirely too much these days in reviews) but I requested a quote to move almost a week ago: No Response. Sent an email two days ago: No Response. Every time I try to get someone on the phone: No response. So they must not be in business. Or they are actively disregarding my wife and I trying to contact them. All I was trying to find was a quote to help me move my family. As a disabled Veteran sometimes moving my entire family with my disabled veteran friends we can't really complete the task always due to injury. Thank you for absolutely nothing. So, I've rated Ruff and Ready 2 other times and just used them again yesterday (Wednesday the 8th) for the move into my new house. Jian, Parker and Zach were the team assigned to get us all squared away. These three guys did such a great job. Let's nail down the list of pros: On time? Yes. Did they communicate clearly? Yup. If anything, I did not and they adapted, which leads to...we're they friendly? Very. These guys were not only friendly but they were incredibly polite and positive the entire time. Let's go back to my lack of communication. As we were going through the house I neglected to point out two pretty large items and as they had everything packed up and minutes from moving it all to the next house my wife noticed the two items. Instead of saying "no" or "we can't", they found a way to make it happen. The truck was PACKED solid before all of this but they managed to get these things on the truck and we're gracious about dealing with my mistake. These guys worked hard and (in my opinion) it's becoming more of a rarity to find people who are genuinely polite and care about others. Refer back to an old review I did and you'll see where another company moved my mom and destroyed a lot of her furniture putting it into storage. She used Ruff n Ready to move out of storage to her house and saw what the extra money would have saved her. We originally hired on a different moving company and on the day of our move, they didn't show up and kept making excuses until it was 7 PM. Ruff and Ready's John responded to a frantic facebook post in a local group and got us in on Saturday night at 7:30 for a Sunday 10 AM move. I don't know where I would be without these guys. They booked us within minutes and showed up on time the next morning with a crew of 3. These guys were friendly and very quick. Nothing of ours was damaged and they got everything moved in just a couple of hours. They helped tape up the loose pieces of furniture we had laying around and made sure everything was secure. I got email/text reminders that they were on the way and on the morning of our move, I got a call to confirm that they were leaving. I've already recommended them to one of my coworkers and I'll definitely keep this company in mind for our next move. RUFF AND READY came through for us, big time. I would hire them again and again. You know what is stressful and a pain in the butt? MOVING all the way across the country, looking for a home when there is a housing shortage, living in a tiny airbnb for 4 months with little of what you need available, dealing with delays in your personal belongings being placed on a truck to come to you (due to tragic and unforeseen circumstances, as I found out) and being in limbo while life is still happening with family and work. AND THEN, when your stuff is finally on a truck and on the way ---- have things start going wrong for the scheduled moving day. I am giving a 5 star review in spite of the delay in our stuff arriving. It wasn't the delay in receiving our belongings, but the communication about delays that could have been a bit better-we were in limbo for a bit. HOWEVER, if it hadn't been the unforeseen circumstance, I'm certain all would have been perfect. Thus, they deserve 5 stars. Here is something I think is important to say: We didn't know if we were moving to a condo or a single family home. Condo moves are harder and cost more. We told Ruff and Ready it would all depend on what we found once we arrived in Miami. No problem. No add-ons for walking a a long distance between truck and home. None for stairs, for elevators... AND, they were more reasonable than two out of the three very big name companies we received estimates from. Well, not only did we purchase a condo, but on the day before the 53 foot trailer arrived we realized there was not enough room for it to come through the gate to the property. Then we realized that the trailer would have to block half the street if it parked in front. Oh, and also, one of the two elevators in the condo building had broken down a couple days before and was waiting for parts to be repaired. This is a luxury boutique building folks, in a neighborhood where having a work truck on the street requires a permit and can get you a hefty fine. The chances of this happening on OUR move-in day? I was stressing and nervous. So Brandon the driver says "don't worry about it, you enjoy your Sunday, I'm going to take care of this". He personally got up at the crack of dawn on Monday to go take care of code enforcement issues and make sure we had permission to block a portion of the street with the truck. Okay, great, right? NOPE. THEN, the company here in Miami that was supposed to show up to meet the Ruff and Ready crew to help unload showed up more than 2 hours late without notice (that's Miami). Brandon and Jeff again say "no problem, we'll get it done" and start unloading without them. No complaint, no stress, never mind that it was A LOT harder with just two people especially because of the logistics involved. We used Ruff and Ready Moving twice while we lived in Temecula to pack and move us. Both times were stellar and could not have gone more smoothly. When we wanted to move from Temecula all the way to Miami, FL we weren't sure what to do. On the one hand we really wanted to keep supporting them because they are a smaller family business. On the other hand we wondered if they could handle a cross country move as well as the experienced bigger companies would. We went for it - the third time - and I'm so glad we did. I've opened up all of our kitchen boxes, and am nearly 75% done unpacking everything else. Everything was packed with care. After being in storage for four months and loaded and unloaded without our presence once again... It's all in perfect condition. You know what's greatest about this company? If you call, you're going to get a live person who answers the phone. For us it was either Naomi or Nancy. If you are unhappy with something and ask to speak to the owner - you're going to get a call from the owner. From the day of the estimate and how they handle that, to the contracts, to inventory, mails and questions, it was just EASY to deal with them even in the most stressful moments. I did not expect everything to go perfectly and it did not. But they were with me every bit of the way, 99% of everything on their end DID go perfectly, and they came through like ROCKSTARS going above and beyond. Their team is top-notch. Kind, professional, and polite - all of them. There is a lot to be said about getting to deal with real people and not an answering service. MAJOR KUDOS TO RUFF AND READY. LOVE YOU GUYS. THANK YOU! Worst experience ever. Amanda in the office is rude as all hell. They say the truck will arrive Friday, then Monday then Wednesday. The truck shows up Wednesday and the day laborers they hired are told to unload the truck until they find our stuff. An hour and half into unloading OTHER PEOPLES items from a terribly packed truck, we find out, the truck does not have our stuff on it. The driver drove through the night from California to Colorado and is dead tired. The laborers don't want the liability of moving other people's items. Do your homework first, get other quotes! Estimated came and spent over an hour opening every drawer and inventorying everything for an estimate. On day of move they didn't have to pack nearly as much as estimated since I got a trailer and moved multiple loads ahead of time. Moving day came, movers were ALL smokers and took multiple breaks every hour. They were also very rough on everything even boxes moved fragile. I watched the lead guy pick up every box and completely flip it upside destroying the fragile contents, why?!?!? The actual move ended 4 hours longer than they estimated and that was with me working continuously as a laborer during the entire move. Obviously they have quoted before so not sure how they could have grossly underestimated. Once they finished my bill was much higher than the pack and move quote combined. Their laborers are paid hourly and make it clear they need the work hence the slow pace. My wife chose this company and didn't get other quotes which was a huge mistake on our part. I have moved multiple times in the military with professional movers and 3x privately with professional movers. I called and spoke with the owner and he had an excuse for every point I made, wasn't willing to help other than waiving a 3% credit card fee which was a joke. They hit me with the bill at 2am and wouldn't leave until I signed and paid for it. I told them i wanted a chance to review it in the morning and they created a hostile environment by pressuring me to complete the inaccurate transaction. You have been warned!! Update: Owner has never followed up on his own, no one ever called to ask how my move was. I have tons of busted stuff I want to put a claim for and no idea how to file claims. Plus, the damage in my old house and new house, not one time asked about that. Just listen to the owner, he flips statements and has an excuse for anything I say. I'm not a happy customer, it shouldn't cost $3400 to move a family of 4. We are not hoarders, I moved and packed a ton before they came (but after the estimate) yet it was more expensive than entire pack and move. Erik, Jason, and (can't remember the other guys name ) were very friendly and professional. They did a very good job. The only thing that would keep it from a 5 star rating was that the price we were originally expected came out higher than we expected. Jaime came to our house 3 weeks prior and discussed the move. We thought it would be around 700.00, but it was acrually 900.00. But still, they did a good job and we were satisfied at the end of the day. read more

I reached out to this Company a month or so ago through their website to get an estimate on a move, our Realtor recommended them and I never received a call or E-mail back. Recently I posted on a FB Community page asking for mover recommendations and they again came highly recommend. I decided to give them a second chance and called to schedule an in home estimate that was scheduled for today at 1:00 pm. No one showed!!! I called to inform the Receptionist of the no show and she indicated there was an hour window, which she NEVER communicated to me!! I was VERY specific about the time since it was my lunch break. Would not recommend this Company as they are unreliable! The Owner's reply is NOT ACCURATE. Not surprising... NO ONE EVER CALLED ME! I called the office. read more

RUN, don't walk, away from Ruff and Ready Movers. They talk a good talk to get you to sign the contract, then all bets are off. Horrible communication, unprofessional staff. They would never answer our calls so we had to use a different phone so they wouldn't see the Caller ID, and they picked up on the first ring. Jason will call you a liar, as he did us. They require that YOU buy insurance, but when THEY lose or break something, they will stall, stall, stall and then deny your claim. What a joke of a company. I can't believe the people in the area continue to recommend them; maybe they're good at moving a 1 room apartment from Temecula to Murrieta, but beyond that, I would go with a tried and true company with a better record. The negative reviews on here are spot on. Someone said that the reason they get recommended often is because they contribute to local charities. That's nice because they must have quite a bit of extra money laying around. I'm sure we'll here from the Great John Ruff; he's unreachable unless he sees a negative Yelp review; then he gets on Yelp and defends his joke of a company. Caveat Emptor*UPDATE No, Mr Ruff, I am not a competitor writing a fake review...nice try. The reason you do not find a customer named "Robin W." Is because the contract was done by my husband under his name. Why don't you improve your attitude (and that of most of your employees), humble yourself, and take some customer service training? That would be time well spent rather than completely ignoring the content of the multiple bad reviews you get and actually addressing those issues. Keep shopping. These guys created a huge mess and quote was less then half of the final bill"S". They quit labeling boxes about 2/3 through and then just put boxes wherever they wanted blocking doors bathrooms etc.. They said quote did not include unpacking for 80+ year old in law. Foul music playing on cell phone of mover, they used way too many packing items and charged for all of them. I personally had to spend several days unpacking them with other hired help. Wow! There are no words that can fully describe how amazing this company is, but I'm sure going to try! We wanted a stress-free moving experience for moving from Temecula to Oceanside. We contacted a handful of moving companies for quotes and Ruff and Ready was the most reasonable and highly professional with the process. We decided to go with them to pack us up, move us and unpack. The first crew arrived on time and was very fast and organized. They packed up and secured everything for transport the next day. I thought we'd have to sleep on our air mattress but they assured us that they can leave the bed as is until the next day. This made for an excellent night of sleep before moving day. The second crew was unbelievable! I've never seen a moving truck get filled so quickly. Before I knew it, they were done and off to our new house to unload. They did a great job from beginning to end. They ensured all the walls and floors were protected. They provided wardrobe boxes for our closet full of clothes. This was my first moving experience where NOTHING was broken or damaged. I highly recommend them. read more

The 5 Stars are for the MOVERS ONLY. Daniel C. and Luis (on Day 2 of unloading). These two gentlemen were very professional and courteous upon arrival. The corporate office messed up on our moving day (which I will elaborate on below). But Daniel and Luis were sent (instead of 3 movers as agreed upon). And they were EXCELLENT. Between the two of them on Day 2 of unpacking the loaded truck into our new home, these guys worked their butts off and were very careful with placing all of our stuff. Day 1 of our loading: Stephen was the lead mover of a 3-man team. Very professional and you can tell he had done this for a while. No hiccups as far as Loading Day. Very straightforward and he was very professional. Loaded our stuff in a timely manner. This 5 Star rating is only for the Movers that showed up on Days 1 and 2. This does NOT reflect our horrible experience we had on Day 2 with a scheduling delay, which was handled poorly by the office. We moved on June 1 (Friday), which was understandably a busy moving day all around, but the office did NOT notify us first thing in the morning of ANY delays. I had to call them first (2 hours after we expected them to arrive or call with an ETA), to get answers of where our movers were at. No answers. If they had taken steps from the beginning to let us know they were shorthanded, our experience may have been a little better on Day 2. We were scheduled to start in the morning, but the team didn't get to our house till 5:30pm. All they had to do was call us as soon as they knew there would be a delay. They also should have told me that they were sending 2 men instead of 3, as per our original agreement. Thank goodness Ruff and Ready had excellent movers in the field, but the office may need to work on basic customer service. I'm thankful to Daniel, Luis, and Stephen for moving our stuff safely and efficiently. read more

This is the worst moving company ever! Any positive reviews are written by the family because they are unethical scammers. They give an estimate, then take twice as long meaning thousands of dollars to break, scratch, chip and destroy your lifetime possessions. They opened boxes, stole things, and kept things in their truck. They charge 3x for driving, don't work, hide in the trucks, are rude, argumentative, slow and cunning. Report your bad experiences to the federal trade commission and state attorney office and get this business closed down and do not use them! read more

Made an appointment for an in-home free estimate 4 days ago (Feb. 4th) for an appointment this morning at 10am. An hour and a half waiting for this guy to show up, we call the company. Customer service said Paul will call within a couple minutes. Paul called us asking if we received his text message THIS MORNING, we told him we never did he then asked if we lived in an apt and for us to tell him a list of our furniture without telling he wouldn't make it to our home. He then says he didn't want to come because our home was far (about 60 miles) and then told us for our 2 bedroom place our estimate is $6500-7500. After that call, I spoke with Amanda, the manager and she said if it's over 50miles they do a phone estimate which we were not informed. We were upset because they had 4 days to know ahead of time we weren't local (located near Buena Park) and had to leave our appointment early for our daughter to make it in time for our appointment with Paul. We will just rent a truck out of state and drive to our place for approximately $1500 to our next destination out of state. Thanks for nothing Ruff and Ready Movers for the all around poor customer service. John, How can we be non compliant if we never received any text messages? Amanda didn't even want to have you call me when I first requested it. So whatever helps you sleep better at night but this is not the first horrific review you've received for your business. And the next time you address anyone by name, you will have some serious issue to deal with, John. Thankfully, your employee Paul, threw out some random number of an estimate but after doing more research, we are able to get what we need for HALF THE COST.
