This is the worst moving company ever! Any positive reviews are written by the family because they are unethical scammers. They give an estimate, then take twice as long meaning thousands of dollars to break, scratch, chip and destroy your lifetime possessions. They opened boxes, stole things, and kept things in their truck. They charge 3x for driving, don't work, hide in the trucks, are rude, argumentative, slow and cunning. Made an appointment for an in-home free estimate 4 days ago (Feb. 4th) for an appointment this morning at 10am. An hour and a half waiting for this guy to show up, we call the company. Customer service said Paul will call within a couple minutes. Paul called us asking if we received his text message THIS MORNING, we told him we never did he then asked if we lived in an apt and for us to tell him a list of our furniture without telling he wouldn't make it to our home. He then says he didn't want to come because our home was far (about 60 miles) and then told us for our 2 bedroom place our estimate is $6500-7500. After that call, I spoke with Amanda, the manager and she said if it's over 50miles they do a phone estimate which we were not informed. We were upset because they had 4 days to know ahead of time we weren't local (located near Buena Park) and had to leave our appointment early for our daughter to make it in time for our appointment with Paul. We will just rent a truck out of state and drive to our place for approximately $1500 to our next destination out of state. Thanks for nothing Ruff and Ready Movers for the all around poor customer service. John, How can we be non compliant if we never received any text messages? Amanda didn't even want to have you call me when I first requested it. So whatever helps you sleep better at night but this is not the first horrific review you've received for your business. And the next time you address anyone by name, you will have some serious issue to deal with, John. Thankfully, your employee Paul, threw out some random number of an estimate but after doing more research, we are able to get what we need for HALF THE COST. When we called Ruff and Ready for our moving needs, we met with a gentleman that happened to be the father of the owner of this company. We were lead to believe that they took the "old fashion" way of working with people! We were told how they take pride in their work and put the customers needs first! What we weren't told is that the boxes that were packed and sealed by us would arrive damaged, opened and resealed! We weren't told that items would be missing! Things were removed from boxes that were sealed and placed in other boxes that were opened for some reason. Our king size mattress left our house in a protective bag but arrived out of the bag being used to protect items inside the moving van! The mattress arrived dirty! The strings that hold the weights to my grandfather clock are broke. My leather wrapped trunk was damaged! My husband's Harley Davidson seat is still back in California and hasn't been returned to us! But....yet, they are asking for the $450 fuel charge they forgot to add!!! They are more worried about their wants and needs and haven't shown us any remorse for everything that has happened to us! Now to top it all off, I just discovered that my father's (who passed away two years ago) western hat that was an icon of his, is missing!! This is something that has hung in my house since I lost my dad! It is a very sentimental priceless possession!! My husband and I have been in our own business for 36 years and we have always done the right thing for our customers if they weren't satisfied! Called as a last minute move due to other moving companies canceling last minute. The young guys who came were quick and made moving so much easier for us. So thankful to have found such an amazing company who took care of us and all our moving needs. Keith, Austin and Damon were the best. If you need a company to move your stuff and want it done right. Worst company EVER! Hired them for our move to AZ because they were a "local" company so I assumed we would get better service than a national company. WOW was I wrong. Not only did they completely underestimate how much stuff we had, the experience was a nightmare. When they arrived in AZ with 2 trucks and 3 guys they wasted so much time all day I was fit to be tied. I ordered lunch in to hopefully keep everyone working only to find out an hour later 2 of them left for lunch! About 4:00 after getting only 1 truck partially unloaded 2 of them started to unload the second truck into my driveway. When they were done they got in the truck and left back to Temecula with an entire truckload of our stuff in the driveway!!!!! The other driver informed me he would be back the next day with help to finish the job. HA I wish!! They lost all the parts to put ALL of our beds together, along with parts to put our patio furniture back together. They lost a spin bike (NOT A SMALL ITEM) and did all but call me a liar when I informed them it was missing! I was assured the parts to the beds were being sent to me "next day" about 6 days later my spin bike showed up.....still no bed parts!! When I called they didn't even know they sent the bike they asked if I "found it"! About 10 days later a box with the bed parts and patio furniture parts showed up. I was assured they would make it right and have someone to put my stuff back together as I hired THEM to do. I have never heard another word from them. I paid someone to put our stuff back together. Imagine that you book your movers over the phone. Their estimator visits your house and provides a written quote and confirms your move date. So you make arrangements to have your 5 children taken care of with family and sitters and you take the day off work of so you can move the house on Friday. You are packed and boxed and ready to go. Friday morning rolls around and the movers don't show up. When you call them they state that they don't have you on their schedule and cannot do your move for another three days-on a day when all your children are back home and you are scheduled to go back to work so you have no choice but to spend the weekend living in a half packed house. They express in half-baked words empty apologies and take no accountability for their error. They offer no compensation for the inconvenience caused by their error. In fact, they even try shift the blame onto you, their customer. If this is the type of experience you want for your move then use this company ! read more

If I could give less than one star I would. I helped my friends move from California to Oklahoma. They hired these guys and it was the biggest mistake EVER. What should have been a seamless move has become a nightmare. Not only did it take over 14 hours to load the minimal items left, ( the lionshare of the work had been done before they arrived) but when the load arrived in Oklahoma..... the driver jack knifed the truck resulting in the removal of the new fence, a wrecking crew to haul him out and the entire day was wasted. RUN AWAY!!! John Ruff and his company are highly unethical. I contracted the moving company after they provided a moving estimate in the amount of $1,180. After they were done they said the amount owed had gone up to $6,664! How can someone be so far off on their estimate? Obviously we did not pay that amount so we proceeded to take Ruff & Ready to court. All the while Ruff decided to hold a poor elderly couple personal belongings for over six months and attempted to charge another $800 monthly for "storage". We disputed the amount billed o our original court hearing and the court ruled in our favor after hearing the facts. Then, Mr Ruff still did not want to release the personal belongings. So we had to take them to court a SECOND TIME to force them to return the items. That case hearing went in our favor as well. Court ordered them to deliver the items by Monday May 13th 2019 at 6pm or be ordered to pay $6500 plus costs. Per court order he was suppose to provide three days notice on the delivery. But, John being the individual that he is had someone call the nigh before to inform of the delivery the very next morning (Which was Mothers Day). They left everything just scattered on the exterior of the home. And after inspection there are several broken items. So it looks like now we will have to take them to court a THIRD TIME! So me and my husband are a military family, we hired this company to move us from Rancho Bernardo to menifee, I make this drive daily and it's a 45 minute drive. The movers get to our Rancho Bernardo home (which was 950 sq. Ft.) most of which was already packed. I have security cameras posted in my home as well, and we are very disappointed with the service we received! We paid over 2,000 to have the movers milking the clock ( as you can see on our security footage before they threw my cameras in the box) they broke most of our property which includes my husbands 1,000 traegar grill, and it took 3 fully grown men, over 12 hours to move 950 sq. Ft. My husband is on orders, and we have 4 small children together. All day I was calling the company, and Chloe their receptionist, was giving false and misleading information. We were told that someone would call us back, and no one ever called us back. When we received our damaged property (that was not damaged before they came) we made a complaint, Chloe once again promised to call us back and give us the email address to file a claim, 10 days later, still no phone call, so me and my husband had to call them again. Three weeks later, and they are talking to us as if we damaged our own property (which was in great condition before them) because they are not willing to take responsibility for anything they have done. As a military wife who's husband is constantly on orders, I use movers every time we have to move, and I must say this is by far the worst experience I have ever had!! I would advise anyone else in this situation to stay far away, because of you are a woman with out your husband or you are a single woman, they completely take advantage of you. It took my husband to get involved before they even took what I said seriously!! I would not recommend this company who lies, and they do not tell you about any of their hidden fees until the driver arrives to your home, by which time if you choose to cancel because the fees can be outrageous, they will still charge you a minimum of 4 hours, so you are stuck paying them for work not done, or they sit there and milk the clock if it's not enough work for them to do. Oh and it was also their bright idea, to take my husbands propane tank into our old home and leave it open instead of leaving it on the patio where it was, when my maid got to the home for the final cleaning, she called and told me it smelled bad and she couldn't start work right away due to fumes, thank the lord I cut the power or who knows how many people would've been hurt in the explosion that was sure to come! I have read previous comments where the owner responds by claiming everyone else lying and "out to destroy his company for monetary gain" I can assure you we paid IN FULL and if he claims we didn't I will gladly post the receipt. Me and my husband has no need to lie, but like previous reviews, we truly do hope to spare anyone we can from this scam of a business!!! They do not like paying for damages they cause, but they charge you an arm and a leg, if I could post more photos I would (we have 80 of them plus 70+ videos of them milking the clock. Me and my husband have already accepted that we will need to take them to court, or accept we lost a lot of money and have to replace a lot of damaged items due to this owner not willing to accept any kind of responsibility, I don't think he realizes that placing blame ALL the time does not look good as an owner, but that's the type of business he runs. About a few months ago, I was moving to a new house and a friend referred me to the "Ruff and Ready Moving" company to help me to move my furniture. I ended up hiring the Ruff and Ready Moving company to move a spa for me. Unfortunately, that was the worst decision I have ever made. The Ruff and Ready team damaged the spa which cost about $1000 to fix. The spa was about 6 months old, and it cost me $10000. Ruff and Ready charged me over $350 for the move. When they delivered the spa, there were damages all over and they dropped the spa very heavily on the concrete. I reported the damage to the owner, they only reimbursed me $200 while I had insurance of over $600 for the move. I believe that the Ruff and Ready staff was unprofessional and have no knowledge of how to move a spa. I really don't want to give this company a star at all. I am a widow, I had a POD that I needed it to be loaded up with my furniture and I truly felt these guys were doing a great job until it was all over. At the beginning I went room to room on what was going and what was staying. And one room was off limits completely. That is where I had my purse under my desk and my chair was pushed up to my desk.I had gone to the bank that morning and knew exactly what I had, plus no one was suppose to even go into that room. Well some how when it came time to pay for the job there was $400.00 missing from my purse. After they left I found more missing. In the garage my tools, they were nice enough to leave my tool bag but took ALL my tools Black and Decker drill, my iRobot Rooma 980 vacuum, still in it's box brand new, a Kicthen Aid Pasta maker brand new in it's box , a Kicthen Aid Meat Grinder brand new in it's box's. A brand new box fan. And heaven knows what else. Called the company spoke to a manager, was told he would look into it. Never heard from him. I called again asked for the owner and was told I needed to email my complaint. So I did. Spoke to a guy name Austin. Said he is head of claims department. ,So I told him my story." Oh I will look into it and get to the bottom of it" , do you think I heard from him. ...... No . So I called and Austin said it's hard getting to talk to the guys because they all work different times but the ones he spoke to don't know anything...... Well of course they don't. Austin also told me to go ahead and call the police. So if you're planning on moving DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE. The owner says he takes care of vets.... The walk through that was performed prior to my move was great. The estimate on how much stuff I had and what it would take was not even close to accurate. I was told the movers would be able to get all but one side of the garage of boxes. With help from my family and friends we started moving the night before. Cleared out one side of the garage and the day of the move I had several people hauling loads back and forth. It took the moving company almost 4 hours to wrap all of my large furniture and start loading. In this time two trips had been made to the new house and back. The three young men that came were nice but moving slow. 15 min breaks turned into 40 min breaks and by the time they even got to the new house the 8 hours were almost up. Me and my family helped unwrap furniture, move furniture and if I would have known I would have saved the money and rented a large uhaul for the day. I feel like for the amount of money paid, I should have been able to do less work. We disassembled everything to make it easier and staged most of it downstairs. I can only imagine how long it would have taken had we not done that. Moving is not fun but I was not impressed. One very large antique cabinet of mine was broken. The lead felt horrible but I feel this was too big of a job for this crew. They were only able to move my large furniture and pretty much nothing else. If that was going to be the case I shouldn't have been made to believe the boxes were the only issue. Customer Service up to the move was awesome. These people are thieves. We are still unpacking boxes but so far a coin and paper money collection we had in a dresser is missing.. they packed terribly! Stuffing dress shirts that were on hangers in a box folded around the hangers and then put a lamp and kitchen appliance on top. So many boxes they packed were mismarked or unmarked. I'm very thankful we brought several loads to the new location before they got ahold of the remainder. 6k to move in total and the packing guys put us on the spot asking if I was going to include a tip with the first payment even though we were charged a 4 hr block for 4 packers and they finished in 2. The 2 hour pack job was obvious why it only took 2 hours. Many boxes were a mess. I'm not even half way through unpacking so who knows what else they've taken. I was told pictures would be wrapped and 4 pictures were just stood in boxes with no protection. Really really mad they stole those coins and paper money. Wouldn't recommend these guys to my worst enemy. Just so I'm clear here in response.. We never asked for a thing and want nothing from this mover. We made no claim because we don't want the headache. I understand he wants to protect the reputation of the company . My only objective here was to inform other customers of our experience so they can make informed decisions. That is after all the purpose of yelp. I selected this company based on reviews here and may have done differently ,had I seen reviews like our experience. With the info we provided they gave us an estimate $800 or less but when we received their estimate via email it doubled to nearly $1800 for a less than 5 mile move...insane!!! I can't say enough about how good these guys were with our move. On 6/6/17 I was quoted that the 3 guys would sow up between 8-9 a.m. With an estimated time of 6 to 8 hours. Thry arrived at 8:30 and started working immediately and in 3 hours and 45 minutes the job was completed and they were on their way. They never stopped for a break and were very professional. I will definitely recommend them to anyone looking for movers that bust butt up until the end of the job. I used Ruff and Ready moving to move twice in 2014 and again recently 9/13/17. All 3 times using them they have taken good care of me. In 2014 I moved from a home and asked them to put half of my things in an apartment and the other half in a storage unit. They blew all other moving companies out of the water on price and I felt like the level of care and service I received was more than what I paid for. I had 1 item break during the course of the move and John took care of it for me hassle free. We used them again once construction of my new home was completed and they again provided a service that exceeded my expectations. This year my job decided to relocate me to San Antonio TX. I didn't know if Ruff and Ready would be able to handle the job but they took care of me. Not only was there pricing the best in town, they also were super flexible on schedule and was a lot quicker than other companies that gave me quotes for moving. Once the moving van got to San Antonio all my items were in tact and they unloaded and put my things back together in excellent time. Couldn't be happier! THEY ARE AWESOME!! The lead driver was on his phone on a personal inappropriate call the entire move. I took video and showed the owners and they gave me a 5% discount WOW that is not enough to cover the fact I had to move all my boxes into my house. Everything was ready for them to move and in the garage because he was on a call yhey should have been done in about 4 hours and it took them over 6, and and didn't finish I HAD TO DO IT MYSELF taking stuff off their truck. Broken furniture, missing pieces to my bed NO RESPONSE from the owners on expected repairs had to replace pieces myself. They came highly recommended, were very unprofessional! One of the workers broke a fan down there and said oh shit and ran to the truck and come out for the rest of the day they left early came back the next day packed up the stuff the rest of stuff in a little box truck Ernie said oh it's gonna be put right on the truck it and don't worry about it well I get to my worm supposed to be my new house they show up two days later half the stuff is missing I have a broken teak entertainment center they broke it I missing two king-size bed frames they don't know where they went was missingThey lost a two-step ladder they lost all of my yard decorations when chimes solar lights a flamingo ornament that was given to me part of my fire pit scratched a hutch arm things were missing they had no excuse for it I file a claim I go and replace some items send them receipts send them pictures so yesterday I get a $149.22 check from them to cover everything that was lost broken or missing where did you go I talk to Amanda she said well I think we found some of your stuff some of your garden stuff OK send it to me will you have to file a claim OK so I file a claim so now I contact the Better Business Bureau and the American moving and storage association $149 doesn't cover anything I put that much out for a new fan a new stepstool new bed frames The new fan I put up in the house down there where they broke $50.02 bed frames for $103 a three-step ladder was $40 they didn't they didn't pay me for the wagon wheel it was missing that is broken they just don't pay on their claims and I would never ever refer them to anybody because they're crooks I've already put more money into this replacing things then they paid for and they charged me $10,397 to move me read more

I've used them twice. I thank God they sent a mover by the name of David. He was professional and never removed his mask when others did. He was prompt and really took care of my things. The reason why I gave them one star is because how unprofessional the owner is. I had a problem with the cost that was misquoted but she was very unprofessional in the manner when handling it although they saw I was right. Before hiring a moving company I read a lot of reviews and frankly was disappointed. Many of the larger providers received poor ratings due to shifts in scheduling, lost or broken items, and extortion tactics that threatened to keep a client's items locked in storage until a new price could be negotiated. After having spoken to the owner of Ruff and Ready (R&R), I committed to providing a fair review; one that I would have avoided if he had demonstrated a modicum of honor and integrity on one simple item. The truth is, other than some initial scheduling difficulties, I found all of R&R employees, including their contract movers, to be very pleasant on the phone and in person. With that stated, the two stars came from these issues: upon delivery, we had a few crushed boxes, a broken antique piece of furniture, damage to a bed frame, missing power tools, missing art, a missing living room coffee table, and several box cutter slashes on the back of a custom high-back dining chair. We had a bingo sheet/punch list that was used to check items in, but the process was fast and their descriptions were very generic, making it difficult to know what was what. The coffee table was simply missed. The standard insurance plans offered are not at all practical. They pay for damage by the pound; I believe that it is .60-cents. Or, you can purchase additional insurance with a $500 deductible. Meaning, if something valuable but light was broken, we'd get pennies, and if the item damaged was under $500, it was not covered. This means that I have to pay for their mistakes. With little recourse, we turned down the $500 deductible option. We contacted the company; again, the receptionist was very courteous, but it took roughly two months to get our table back and it was damaged. I eventually spoke with the owner and told him if he would agree to repair the high back chair, we would not file a claim. He agreed, citing an expectation that it could not cost that much to repair. The move was in July we got our coffee table back the last week in September. In October I sent the owner a note, with confirmation from the custom furniture store, stating that the chair fabric was no longer available, and that I was seeking to have the backs (not the whole thing) of both of our chairs reupholstered. Having not received anything back, I reached out again the first week of December, after which I was sent an email that a previous claim had been filed, and that they were closing our case. I called, spoke to the owner: first he made it clear that he only agreed to cover one custom chair and would not take care of the other and then stated that I had not reached out to him in October (said I forwarded an email sent to my wife); I was driving but confirmed later that it had indeed gone to them and cc'd my wife. Finally, I stated that I was no longer interested in his $80; and that we understood that moving and the associated insurances could be tough on both the company and the customer. It was never about the money; it was about accountability and good customer service. I told him that I would write a fair review; frankly, the two stars earned were for the pleasantness the employees demonstrated. Still, my chairs were slashed, furniture smashed, things lost, and items damaged. We even told them that they left someone else's large mirror at our house for those months our coffee table was missing. The owner claimed that they could easily survive a bad review and that he did not like being threatened, in spite of assurances that it would be fair. Ok then, here it is. I saved photos, emails, paperwork, and texts to backup my claims. I'd be happy to reproduce them if his rebuttal conveniently shades the facts. read more

They were very disappointing , waited till after 8 pm to get belongings and they had less than five miles to bring it. These movers are awesome. The movers showed up on time and were ready to rock n roll. They were professional, courteous, and worked very hard loading n unloading the truck. They even offered to help move some items multiple times so it was in the perfect spot. Jeff n Jessie were great. My family and I had to move in short notice due to flooding in our home. Repair to exceed 30 days. Had to find movers quickly so my wife checked Yelp. I was kind of skeptical because we had such horrible service before from a different moving company. Will and Angel with Ruff and Ready movers were AWESOME!!!! They moved our things without any issues. They were courteous, professional, quick, and the positive list goes on! Once we got moved in, they asked if there was anything else they could do for us. I can't thank them enough for their help. I highly recommend this company. Rates were awesome! $60/hr plus $150 for the truck. That's it! No hidden costs.
