I purchased an 8x10' wool shag rug from West Elm in March 2013. 6 months later, not knowing much about rugs, my roommate's dog really sucked the life out of rug. I had a great experience with Rug Ideas. I brought in an 8x10 wool flatweave rug and a 2x10 Moroccan runner, neither of which had ever been professionally cleaned. I have a dog and there had been some accidents on both the rugs, plus a lot of ground-in dirt and dog hair. First, as far as the quality of the work: I just picked up the rugs and they look and smell amazing. Very fresh and clean - the runner in particular (which has some white parts) is brighter than I ever remember seeing it). I also had them finish the ends of the runner - which has fringe but which had never been finished so it was unraveling. The craftsmanship on the finishing is amazing. These guys are EXTREMELY knowledgeable about rugs. Second, they are super nice and take time to explain everything, including tips for ongoing maintenance, and they also showed me all the steps in the process and the equipment they use to shake loose dirt out, shampoo, and dry the rugs. Third, the price for all of this was extremely fair ($542 after application of the $100 Yelp coupon). Be aware that they need a few weeks to do the work, but quality work takes time - so plan ahead if you have an event or something where you need your rugs. I took my moth damaged all wool Crafstman rug to them after it was poorly cleaned at another place. There were still moth shells and eggs in the fibers and at least two holes and deterioration had to be mended. To make the job even more challenging, the rug was faded here and there. Mark, Duncan and Justin came to my house and took away two rugs, one Ben Soleimani rug from RH and one from JH Miniassian in Weho. Both rugs were very expensive and had a significant amount of dog pee. Finally, someone had tried to spot clean the rugs with hand soap! It would have been a very hard job to clean these rugs but the guys from Rug Ideas did an amazing job. The rugs care back in really amazing shape with all stains gone, and the guys were really professional and personable with helping me move furniture and tables to ensure that the rugs were positioned perfectly upon their return. I have documentation of everything that happened between myself and Rug Ideas, so any attempt to remove this review will be met with proof and veracity. These guys ruined--ruined--an authentic Tunisian kilim that I bartered for and packed out of a tiny village on the outskirts of the Sahara Desert by camel when I was nineteen years old. After I dropped it off and paid the $140 for the cleaning, I was supposed to hear back in two weeks. Four weeks went by and I hadn't heard anything so I called and "Cash" told me over the phone that the cleaning was just taking a little longer than expected and he would call me in a few days. A week later I received a call from "Cash" that my rug was clean and ready to be picked up. When I arrived, my rug was already rolled, wrapped in plastic and taped shut. I asked them to open the rug for me and unroll it so that I could inspect their work. When they did, my eye began to notice inconsistencies in the weave. I inspected closer and discovered that in nine--NINE--locations on my irreplaceable rug they had re-woven the rug. Some of these spots where they rewove the rug were as big as sixteen square inches. As soon as "Cash" realized I noticed the very-noticeable blemishes he casually explained that the rug was "unstable" and responded negatively to the cleaning process (meaning they tore holes in my rug) so it required reweaving, which--lucky for me--they had taken care of free of charge. "So there will be no extra cost to inadequately repair the irreplaceable rug you ruined with human error? WOW. THANKS." I told "Cash" I didn't accept the rug back in the condition he was trying to return it in and that I would reread the contract and be in touch. Needless to say, "Cash" and I interpreted the contract differently and all I ended up getting--from the owner, who wrote the check right in front of me with a smirk on his face--was my $140 cleaning fee refunded. He suggested that I was getting a great deal since I wasn't having to pay for the reweaving. Since I don't have the time or money to pursue legal action in small claims court, all I could do was tell him what a scumbag he is and leave with my $140. The Tunisian kilim that I bartered for in a small village on the edge of the Sahara Desert and packed around on camelback fifteen years ago? Destroyed. Rug Ideas is inept and unethical. Not sure how this place has such good reviews. Their prices are a moving target, and when you raise an issue about a lower price that they quoted by phone or that you heard or knew about, they may give you the lower price under the guise of a "special" that they can extend. Don't be surprised if your rug is bigger than you thought when they measure it to come up with a price. They included the fringe when measuring. Don't let them know about a Yelp deal in advance because after I mentioned it, they said it was included in the price. Also, be careful of the upsells that "Cash" will call you about after they have your rug. He lives up to his name by trying to sell scotch guard (one of the biggest wastes of money) and moth protection (which my research suggests doesn't exist for a rug). We bought rug pads from them, but they are the same pads that you can get through multiple sources on the internet for much less. Lastly, if you have a rug that looks very clean and is not soiled, don't be surprised if it comes back looking worse. Our rugs that were in top notch condition came back without the sheen that they had, and looked a bit like they had been through a washing machine. There also are random darker spots. The other strange thing is that one of our rugs came back with pieces of glitter in it. I can't tell if it was because it didn't get removed when the rugs were cleaned or if it got on there after they were cleaned. Either way, it makes me wonder about all the hype for their supposed state of the art cleaning process. read more

I had 4 rugs cleaned by Rug Ideas, 3 synthetic and 1 wool. Work is done on premises. The staff is very knowledgeable, professional and polite. They took 2 weeks to get this done but my rugs were a mess and probably required extra work. They cared about every spot and paid attention to details which was very important to me. All rugs were carried to my car, I didn't have to lift a thing. Price is in the middle range but worth it. Also, everyone wears masks and stays at a distance when speaking with the customers. Thought our white shag rug was ruined from mildew. Dr. Kay walked me through his robust cleaning process that ensures the rug is not only cleaned properly but also preserved.
