    New bedroom flooring:)

I purchased flooring, at Rugworks for my 3 bedrooms, this summer. John helped me with the selection & estimate. He was kind & helpful! John sent the installation team, Lazaro flooring. They were professional and hardworking. They were on time time, cleaned everything after completing the floors. They were amazing & my bedrooms are beautiful. The service from the beginning to completion was great.

Gap in the floor at cabinet

Had Rugworks put in new laminate hardwood floors in our new home in Sonoma. They came with good reviews and we wanted to support local businesses during COVID. They came in at an expected price and said they could complete the job within a week. We closed on our house, paid half the flooring cost up front, and handed over the keys to an empty house. Little did we know they would hire out to a third-party installer who completely screwed up the entire install. Gaps between boards, broken pieces glued into place, uneven flooring, and saw cuts all over. John, the rep we worked with, sent Doug, the lead installer, back a week later to completely remove and reinstall the floor. We were under the impression they were sending the best they had to offer to redo the job. Turns out we had multiple people working, with seemingly no communication with one another and no Doug in sight. After about a month they said they were done and never did a final walk through. Over the next month, we waited for other installers to reinstall baseboards and doorway transition strips. There is still a large gap between the floor and baseboard in one room. A broken transition strip at the front door that they never completely secured and has completely fallen off. A two piece, poorly glued together transition strip because they were too cheap to put a complete strip on a second bedroom. After being asked for the remaining payment despite the job not being complete, I went in to speak with the owner about getting a refund or, at the very least, letting them keep the initial 50% deposit and washing my hands of their company. He argued, insisting on full payment and said we could do a third round of work to fix the remaining issues. Trust broken, I opted out. I didn't want to deal with anymore animosity and have them take it out on my house. If you want new floors, save yourself the headache and look elsewhere.

I have also worked with them on flooring projects in both my own home and our showroom. Jason and his team are consistently professional, communicative, and easy to work with. They provide timely quotes, and their installers deliver high-quality workmanship. In addition, their showroom is well-organized and offers an extensive selection of products. I highly recommend Valley of the Moon Flooring and have had nothing but positive experiences working with their team.

Jason was great during the estimate and scheduling phase, he was responsive, easy to reach, and kept us in the loop before the project started. Once the install began, I would have liked more on-site oversight. I think some early in-person guidance from Jason could have prevented some later issues. The refinishing upstairs turned out well overall. They did a good job protecting cabinets and managing dust. We did notice some visible sanding and finish inconsistencies at first, but they acknowledged it and fully refinished the room at no extra cost, which I appreciated. It was inconvenient during move-in, but they stood by their work. The bigger concern was the engineered hardwood install downstairs. While it looks good overall, there are noticeable waves and hollow spots that seem tied to insufficient levelling. It's not realistic to expect perfection, but better prep would have made a difference. On the plus side, when we asked last minute to extend hardwood into the primary closet, they accommodated with leftover material and didn't charge extra labor, which was a really pleasant surprise. Timeline communication could have been better as we had to adjust our move when project slipped a few days, and I often had to ask for updates rather than receiving them. Bottom line: good pricing, nice people, willing to fix issues, but quality control and proactive oversight need improvement.

Following the remediation work authorized by the insurance company, we decided that this unfortunate event gave us the opportunity to completely remodel our all original 1961 bathroom. I began looking for contractors and reading the reviews on Yelp. I selected three, two from Yelp and one which was a referral. Uriah, owner of Hawkins Remodeling & Repair, responded quickly to my request and set up a date and time that worked wonderfully with our schedule. He arrived as scheduled and we toured my complete wreck of a bathroom. He took measurements, pictures and we talked all while he took notes of everything including what our vision was. He asked questions and offered suggestions including installing a new bathroom door. Uriah sent back a proposal just a couple days later and while I was still waiting for the last contractor. In the end, we just liked everything Uriah and his company had to offer and selected them for the remodel. We agreed on a start date the Monday following Thanksgiving. Uriah asked if he could come over the on the weekend prior to drop of the dump trailer as the bathroom was going to be gutted with a lot of debris, so this made perfect sense. On Monday, Uriah and his team members, Carlos and Miguel, showed up promptly and right away began working by masking all the carpeted area with plastic sheeting where they would be travelling on. They also set up their 'shop' in our backyard for the duration of the project. Every day I came home to an extensive transformation. We had a lot going on in this little old bathroom including a faux divider wall removed, replacing the window with an obscure double pane window, which I asked for at the last minute. They were also moving electrical outlets and extending the plumbing height to accommodate our new fixtures but more so for all the tall bodies living in our house. They removed our existing cast iron bathtub, preserving it as we were having it refinished, so they removed it entirely so they could reinforce the main beams and redo the subfloor. Do you know how heavy those tubs are? Also, did I mention that this was a 1961 original AND was built on adobe? This means nothing in our home is level! Carlos and Miguel handled every challenge that was thrown their way. Uriah checked in with me on a regular basis and discussed any potential problems or issues that his team discovered and offered suggestions or solutions. It was very refreshing to know they just wanted it done right and for us to be completely satisfied. Near the end, we had the tub resurfaced and no one was allowed in the bathroom for two days following as it needed to cure. I didn't want to lose them for a that time, so I asked Uriah if they could replace our back patio slider, which too was old in need of replacing. He quickly gave me a bid, I accepted, and the team installed a beautiful new patio slider. It should be noted that it was pouring rain too! They came to finish up on the final pieces and what an amazing Christmas gift it was! I can't recommend Hawkins Remodeling & Repair enough. They truly transformed a "beast" into a "beauty". Thank you, Uriah, Carlos, and Miguel (The Hawkins crew)! We look forward to working on another project with you in the future!

They were very methodical about how they approached it so that we had access to sleeping areas, kitchen, etc., before they left at the end of the day.Their experience was quite evident, I never worried that they were doing sub- par work. They arrived on time, worked together as a team and got it all done ahead of time. We had a moisture problem too that they had to deal with, very tricky but again they are experienced and did what needed to be done. we're happy with how it was laid, no worries about repeating patterns close to eachother. They're great communicators, worked hard, all with smiles and a sense of humor. Allen at the Floor Store was great too. We went in wanting a Cortec product, he also showed us alternative brands that he felt were good too. We never felt pressured to purchase just Cortec. he worked with us for about six months before we finally purchased, we never felt any pressure to hurry up. Matt & Margie W.

Once we connected, we were upfront about our budget, but she repeatedly steered us toward higher priced options and was not transparent about individual product costs. She encouraged us to apply for store credit through Wells Fargo, and I was approved for significantly more than the cost of the flooring we were considering (probably a red flag warning that they will attempt to take you for more than you want to spend). Later that week, she came to our home for a site assessment. While friendly during the visit, she remained vague about installation costs. As she left, she promised to email a detailed quote within a day or two. After a full week with no word, I had to follow up. She responded several hours later with an estimate. The product pricing stayed within what we discussed, but the labor portion was estimated, but listed as "variable," with no fixed amount or not-to-exceed" number. Additionally, she couldn't even guarantee the final cost or confirm they could complete the job. As a contractor myself (in IT), I'm accustomed to providing customers with clear, capped pricing and a promise we will complete the work before they commit, especially on installation work. Its not as if I was hiding anything from her. She had full access to the home for her assessment. If she lacked expertise to properly evaluate the job, they should have sent a more qualified person. This lack of clarity made it impossible to move forward with confidence. After sending the quote, she never followed up and I haven't spoken to her since. Overall, Francine came across as inattentive, inexperienced and unreliable. We ended up purchasing our flooring elsewhere, and based on this experience, I would recommend doing the same.

All of the furniture moved out and moved back in was unscathed. He was professional throughout except for one item. In my bedroom there was a 2" by 1" spot by the wood register where the wood floor was a little jagged. It would've been good had he mentioned it to me. Once the sander went over the spot it raised up and got worse. I didn't see it until a week after the job was completed. I would've preferred that he alerted me to it initially and warn that the sander could damage it further or tell me that it had happened instead of my finding it later. The job is small and will require some time but in the meantime found a small container of the same stain but have not found anyone yet that can/will do the job. Thus the four stars.
