Go visit Nautilus and thank me later. I was pleasantly surprised by the very cool, dark, and cozy décor--and even more surprised by the food. Every dish exploded with unique, fresh flavors. Definitely try the fried chicken. Epic. Another big hit was the scallion pancakes with caviar, topped with a perfectly fried egg. The combination worked shockingly well with the pancakes and caviar. The only dish I'd recommend skipping is the Spicy Szechuan Dandan Noodles. Not bad, just a very heavy anise and dill flavor that overpowered the entire dish. That being said, the service was amazing. Our server, Robin P., took that dish off the bill, which was incredibly thoughtful. I can't say enough good things about this place. Go try it. Get blown away. Thank me later. read more

Total bummer. I wanted to like this place but they messed up our reservation and sat us in the very loud, very cramped, very busy bar area. We were crammed in the corner of the bar where we had to constantly tuck our arms in as the wait staff walked by with food and drinks for patrons of the restaurant. I also got the lovely view of the waitress area. Not exactly a mood setting location. Plus, our table was so tiny we could barely fit two dishes at a time and had to figure out how to keep our cocktails on the table. Also didn't help that I was tucked in because the table next to us was back to back with me. Also, had to listen to the man's obnoxiously loud conversation behind us because we were packed like sardines in the bar area. We booked a comfy table for my friend's bday dinner and they gave us a crappy bar table. I was very disappointed and displeased. Also, my high top chair was missing a leg cover and was super wobbly. I asked the manager about switching chairs and she said she would bring a new chair for me. She never did. I ended up switching my own chair with one from the bar. Not something I should have to do for a place that charged about $30 per "tapas" plate. We did bring this to the manager's attention at the end of our meal at which point we were just ready to leave. It was by far the most uncomfortable I have ever been at a supposedly higher end restaurant. The manager said if she had known sooner, she would've done something to rectify it. Almost sounded like she blamed us for not telling her soon. Although she was very well aware that they had screwed up some reservations. She should've fixed it then when she came around asking our name that was on our reservation to ensure they had marked their books correctly. She knew then that they had made a mistake but did nothing to fix it. And she was running around like crazy and our multiple attempts to get her attention during our short dinner there went unnoticed. Trust me, we tried to get her attention. So, I'm not taking the blame for their mistake. Sure she comped some food but $90 for a crappy experience still feels like a waste of time and money. We ended up walking over to Tuscan Kitchen to get a cocktail and ended up with a much better drink, much better service and actual room to breathe. Will be skipping Nautilus in the future and recommend you do the same. read more

Sat outside, service was good and quick - no complaints there. Overall I thought the flavors left itself more to the western palette and were muted. Started with the Karaage - small pieces of chicken were left in the fryer a bit long. Had a somewhat burnt taste. Buns were tastey but for $20 what an insanely small piece of pork. Crab rice - flavors were bright but the chef put too much salt and it through the entire dish off. The saving grace for the meal was the Tres Leches. So well executed with a nice meringue on top. I have a reason to go to Boston any chance I can get. This place! It's been over a month and I still think about the food. I love Asian fusion and they do it right here. Everything is so good but the highlights were the radish cakes and lobster roll. Because I still remember those dishes. But everything we ordered was delicious. I was in Boston for work and my colleague and I decided to have dinner here. I was glad we had a reservation because it was quite busy! The service was friendly and attentive during our entire visit. We shared with the poke bowl, beef salad, oyster tacos and the chicken wings. Everything came out so quickly and was very fresh. Our favorites were the poke bowl. The portion was great to share between 2 people and it was delicious! The oyster tacos were sooo good! I was surprised to like them so much because they are so different, but the combination of ingredients worked and they were amazing. The beef salad was good, a little spicy. The chicken was ok, they had an aftertaste that I didn't care for, could have been the oil that they were fried in. We got stuck in traffic and were about 5 minutes late to our reservation, but because of that (despite a 15 minute grace period) we were told that we lost our table and would be put at one in the back. We were literally sat in a table squeezed by the bar in the very back, where there was constant squeezing and shuffling, basically the antithesis of personal space. Ambiance was great-super pretty turquoise blue branding and a nice view of the water outside. Service was good overall! Our waiter was friendly and was knowledgeable on a lot of the menu items, which equipped him well for recommendations. The waiters didn't come by often to refill water or ask if we needed anything, which was the only downside. Wine, 8/10: Was clean and crisp, helped balance out the overly salty food! Food: -Dan Dan Noodles, 8.3/10: The noodles were more of a lighter consistency than the dan dan noodles I'm used to, which was a plus. Was a balanced, clean spicy flavor with the right amount of pork. -Peking Duck, 8.5/10: The duck was well-seasoned and came with two parts of the duck (one more meaty/fatty, one lean/slightly crispy) served with sushi rice underneath the leaner part. The sauces (sriracha, mayo, hoisin) could have been more complex and presented better (they came in plain squeezable bottles) considering the price of the dish (~$135). The dish was good but super salty and too heavy relative to traditional peking duck dishes. -Raclette-Stuffed Peppers, 7/10: The dish had just the right amount of spice. Would have been nice if the dish was a bit more complex, felt like it was missing that wow factor. -Japanese Chicken, 9/10: It seems like your typical karaage dish, but the chicken had some of the best texture I've ever had in a karaage dish-super juicy and soft. The sauce was you typical karaage sauce. -Oyster Tacos, 7/10: Wasn't bad, wasn't great. Got this dish bc of other good reviews, but wasn't wowed by it. Overall, great for ambiance, but the food wasn't anything special. I was expecting more, but overall it was a good meal. The set up of the restaurant is a little odd and service was slow. We were seated in a back room where there was a separate bar, and the party next to us kept having to squeeze between our table and the wall to get by. The location is what makes this place. We initially had a great impression and stopped in with a large group for post-dinner drinks. We asked to sit on the patio and they asked that we order from the bar, which we did, paying the bartender immediately. As we were leaving, multiple servers stopped us and accused us of leaving without paying for drinks that no one at our table had even ordered. After proving we had paid and having the bartender confirm it, we were finally allowed to leave. Unfortunately, the manager handled the situation poorly, turning what should have been a fun visit into a very uncomfortable experience. read more

I was really impressed by the food and service at Nautalis. There wasn't one thing we ordered that I didn't like. The lobster roll was fantastic and had an Asian fusion vibe to it. Different than your typical one. I also loved the cucumbers with kimchi, I would definitely recommend ordering those. Super crunchy and refreshing. Some dishes were smaller than others like the poke but the others were a pretty good portion. It is pricy but the food is great. Restaurant has a good vibe but it is dark. My group is in town for a work conference and decided to grab food here. Loved that it's tapas style because we were able to try a few things each and some of them were things I wouldn't have ordered myself as I'm not the biggest seafood fan. I can honestly say I enjoyed everything I tried. It can get a little noisy inside, but overall we were comfortable. We all had various drinks we enjoyed beforehand, and I can't even name all the dishes, but I took photos when I could remember. Came on a Wednesday night, which was actually pretty busy. Noise level was a little bit high, but that's understandable given the crowd. High energy vibe. Service was quick and very good. The staff kept checking on us making sure we had drinks or anything else we needed. The charcoal grill prawns were excellent, it was cooked just right. We had a reservation for a birthday, but the birthday person fell ill. We called in to cancel right when they opened, but were still charged $50 PER PERSON for cancelling within 24 hrs of the reservation. They won't respond to calls or emails. 1) Think about if you are absolutely sure you'll be able to make a reservation with Nautilus Pier 4 as you'll get charged if you can't make it. Hope you don't catch the flu like we did and if you do perhaps you should still go in as not to waste a couple hundred dollars. 2) Think about if this is the standard of customer care you want to spend this kind of money on- it's clear they value your money, not you. read more

Nautilus has a gorgeous space down near the end of Pier 4, with ample seating both indoors and outdoors. We were lucky enough to visit on one of the last evenings where it would feel pleasant to have dinner outside, and thankfully so because the water and lighting outside and the view of the other parts of the area make for a perfect atmosphere. Service is really fast, friendly, and attentive. They're really on top of things in a way that makes your experience feel absolutely seamless. We started with some drinks, and I had the 1260 spritz. It was really crisp and refreshing. The menu is basically entirely meant to be shared. Most of the items are tapas-sized, and then they have a couple large-format items that are also supposed to be shared. Of the tapas-sized items, we had the tomato salad, the short rib, and the calamari. We also shared the peking duck, which is one of the larger format items. I was with a group of five, and the smaller shared items we got were portioned such that each of us could take 1-2 bites. The tomato salad was really delicious, and the frico adds a welcome crunch and saltiness that is balanced by the freshness and juiciness of the tomato. The short ribs are perfectly cooked, with a lovely char flavor. They're juicy and you'll be gnawing the bones. The calamari is interesting in the sense that the fried calamari comes topped with a large pile of thinly shredded cabbage slaw with peanut crumbles and peanut sauce. It makes for a well balanced bite when mixed all together. The peking duck is definitely a showstopper. You get a bunch of crispy-skinned, juicy, perfectly cooked duck breast as well as some suuuuper crispy and fatty meat from elsewhere on the duck, over some rice that gets saturated with duck fat (in my opinion the S tier fat), with the thick bao, some lettuce if you want to make lettuce wraps, some herbs and pickled carrot slices, and three sauces--hoisin, smoky mayo, and sriracha. I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to peking duck, so I mainly stuck to the hoisin, but my friends who tried the other sauces enjoyed them. The duck itself is perfectly cooked and crispy. Scooping up the rice after we'd eaten all the duck was a high point. It's a really fun menu item to share with a group. My only complaint about the duck is that as the customer you end up not actually getting to eat all the meat on the duck...the menu says "whole roasted duck", and I personally do expect to be given all of the meat of the duck, not just the breast and the meat that's off the bones, which is how they often do it at Chinese restaurants. I get that the main customer base for this restaurant may not expect that or know what to do with duck meat on a bone, but if that's the case then don't put "whole roasted duck" on the menu. Overall, this is a nice restaurant that fits the bill for a place you'd take people with upscale taste if you want to impress them with the experience and the view. The food will satisfy most tastes, although I'm not sure I'd take a vegetarian here as the options are slim. It is definitely on the pricey side, which is not surprising given the location, so keep that in mind. read more

Was in Beantown yet again for a work trip and pulled this spot up on Yelp. It had good reviews so I decided to drag my team mate along with me to check it out. The Devore is a cute underwater theme. Nautical without being cheesy. I had the Kermit the Frog drink which was fruity without being too sweet. We decided to get the calamari, cauliflower salad, salmon collar, scallops, the poke, and the mushrooms. Everything g we ate was spot on delicious. Never ever have I tasted cauliflower done better and it was really so surprisingly good that it was my fave. The calamari was crisp and yummy. The salmon collar was so buttery and decadent tasting. We also had wonderful and friendly service. Several different waiters checked up on us, kept our waters filled and were very attentive . This will surely be on my go to list for the next time I am in Boston. read more
