DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON! THEY KICKED ME AND MY HUSBAND OUT BECAUSE WE ASKED THEM TO CLEAN THEIR FILTHY CHAIRS, AND WEAR A MASK. My husband and I had an appt. with two of the colorists, Andrea and Joanne, and due to having a medical condition, we asked our colorists to wear a mask. Most people will and Andrea did with no problem, but Joanne went crazy and then went crying to Roc and he told us to leave. In addition to the above madness, Joanne's chair was the most filthy rotten chair with hair all over the place and some color left over from the previous person. She would not clean it, and again freaked out since I offered to do it. I didn't want to sit in someone else's hair getting all over me, and ruining my outfit with color on the seat. She's a nut job. We never had such a bizarre experience and the owner and Joanne were so weird and crazy since they lost money over having to wear a mask, and clean one chair. Who does that in this day and age? They did us a huge favor since we found a wonderful salon who has no problem wearing a mask, and they clean their chairs from the previous clients mess. read more

I just started coming here a couple months ago. I have loved my hair both times I went in. Celeste does an amazing job and everyone in the salon is so nice. The first time I came in a had a relaxed updo which came out awesome and my curls lasted from 1pm until I went to bed at 1am!! The second time I got a cut, color, and eye brow wax. Went with the BFF because this is where she goes with her son, so I knew she had Andrea and I soo wanted to have Andrea, but she wasnt there... So my son is new to haircuts & lets just say not the best cooperator when it comes to hair cuts and as expected screamed the whole time... I get that he was bad & she did as good as she could have, but she wasnt overly nice... Im not acting like she had to coddle & baby him but maybe try to pacify him some... I walked in and was a bit suspicious of the rave Yelp reviews. (Note, don't judge a book by it's cover!). I was a bit early so took a seat in the waiting area. The owner came over and introducted himself, asked what I wanted done and then introduced me to my stylist. Seriously? I've had my hair cut on Newbury Street and never received more than a glance by anybody else. I was having a one process color and cut. Marcia asked me what color i was look for, reviewed some choices because was a blend of several kinds of browns. Chatted about what I wanted as far as a hair cut. I have thick, fine hair with a natural wave. I absolutely cannot stand a lot of product. These really don't mix. Finally a low maintence cut that doesn't scream 'lazy' and a great color. Look, this isn't a shi-shi spa with a coffee bar. if you want a great hair cut, at a great price, this is the place for you. they've been in business for over 20 years for a reason. the do a great job with a wide variety of clients. i'll be back. the only downside is that it's cash / check only. read more

I stopped into Roc's today after hearing about them from a colleague at work and scanning the Yelp reviews. I can't say enough great things about this shop. First of all, $20 for a Men's cut is a great deal--I'm coming from LA and my barber out there charges me nearly $30 for a cut of similar quality. Josh was my stylist and he was extremely personable. We connected over our dogs, our daughters, and he gave me a lot of input since I'm new to the area. I appreciated the fact that this is a family-owned and operated business, with the owner's son just next door at the jewelry store and his daughter working upstairs. If you want a great cut at a great price, with really nice customer service, look no further. Roc's is where I will continue to return after I officially move here to MA in December--so happy I stopped in today. Oh, and my hair looks great ;) read more

My first visit to Roc's was two months ago. I hadn't had a proper cut and color in several months, following a bad experience at another Marlborough salon. I called to make an appointment and Bobby, the owner, told me to come right in the next evening and they would take care of me. Upon arriving, I met Bobby and he introduced me to the stylist, Debbie. Debbie listened to what I was looking for and gave me a basic trim and did a beautiful job on the color. I have been coming to Roc's for over 25 years. Every 3 weeks I get a cut and color. The owner Bob knows just about every person that walks thru the door. He greets them by name, inquires about their mom, dad, kids, grandparents! He remembers everyone! Extremely professional & friendly staff. They use great products and you cannot get a better value anywhere. Celeste does an awesome job with cuts but is just amazing with color. I walked in and just wanted to talk to someone about the possibility of dyeing my hair for the first time. Elaine sat me down and once she talked to me about how the color needs to accent the color of my eyes I was sold. Then she said she could do it right then. What?! I just jumped right in(very unlike me). She was building her Monday clientele which is why she had time for me, I was in luck! She was amazing and so friendly. She kept the conversation flowing but was not super chatty. She answered all of my questions with full knowledge of how to take care of my new hair. The cut was amazing (7inches!) and the color just what I wanted. The only downside is it's cash only but there is an atm there. That may be how they are able to make it so affordable! She even gave me the lower price since she cut so much hair off. I will certainly be going back to Elaine, it was clear customers who go there are loyal and have been going for a long time. I moved to Marlborough in April and heard raving reviews about Roc's. I made an appointment to get a wash, cut and blow dry. I had a stylist named Kellie M. I will say she was excellent and I have gone to her about every six weeks and sometimes if I am going out. The salon is a full service salon and everyone is so friendly! Unlike salons I used to go to in Framingham. As a male with long hair it is really hard to find a barber who wont absolutely butcher your hair. Roc's was the perfect salon for me. As soon as i called to book an appointment, they were able to get me in within a half hour. When asked for someone who could cut long hair on men they called over one of their female barbers Trish. Trish was fantastic, she was kind, fun, and really lovely to be around. She cut my hair better than I even planned for it to be cut and all for only $16. It was honestly one of the best haircuts I have ever had. I would reccomend this place to anyone, male or female, with any kind of hair. If Roc's can't do it, nobody can. read more

I've been going to Cheryl for almost a year now. I'm in love with what she does to my hair! I get foils every time and every time I go in, she knows exactly what I'm talking about because she listens to what I say. It comes out great every time! I fully trust her skills. Which takes a lot because like I said I get foils and I'm extremely picky about how the Blonde comes out. The price is a great bonus! With a generous (more than 20%) tip, I still pay under $150!!! I gave Roc's only two stars. While I know the place is 100 years old, it could have been kept a little (ALOT) cleaner. There was hair in every crack and it looked as though it hadn't been moped in weeks. The hairdresser went on and on about her own personal problems while she cut my hair. While the cut was OK.. it wasn't the best I've had in the area and the price was way more than I normally pay for a simple cut at $25. My search for a hairstylist will continue. read more

When I was looking for a place to get my hair done on a Saturday morning, all of my regular places were booked solid. Being a mixed race lady I am hesitant to go to an all white salon, so I called ahead to make sure they have experience with my very curly beautiful hair. The woman who helped me on the phone was very nice and assured me they have stylists with ethnic hair experience, and told me to come in. When I arrived the owner showed me where to go and the woman (who I really don't want to name, because I think she was given a shitty hand in the first place, since she obviously did not have experience with mixed hair) asked me what I'd like to be done. I told her and she insisted that I needed a conditioning treatment (which I did not, my hair very soft and I use different oils and conditioners every day). All I wanted was a blow dry to make it straight. To make a long story short she did an awful job. My hair was frizzy, wild and dry. Not to mention while she insisted on using a curling iron (to straighten my hair???!) she gave me an awful burn that hurt for three days after and gave me a blister on my ear. I told her how to blow dry my hair, using a big barrel brush you start at the root and pull hard while you are using the blow dryer and bring it down to the tip. She thought it would be better if she blow dried it like you do with white hair, not pulling hard and just barely putting heat on it. Doing mixed hair is much different that what she is use to, so I gave her a good tip, but I will not be returning. My favorite salon in the Marlborough area is a Hispanic/Brazillian salon on Lincoln St called Bella Hair design. I would not recommend going here if you are black/mixed race. read more

I came in for a haircut, told the hair dresser exactly what i want. She showed me a picture of a haircut and it was exactly what i wanted, and then she faced me towards the window (very scary not being able to watch in the mirror and making sure things are looking good) and the first snip she made was already a mistake, cutting WAY shorter than i asked her to. I love changing my hair, and trying new styles so i didnt think much of it. Usually i can make any haircut look nice. I asked for a short to long bob. Which i have had a million times. I had grown out my hair quite a bit and told her to leave the lengths of the front the same, and just cut the back to make it short and angle it a bit on the sides. She cut the length off the front of my hair ABOVE MY CHIN. When she turned me around and revealed my hair, i was in shock. Afraid to offend her, i kept quiet and payed her and got to the car and immediately started crying. I had to buy a set of extensions to wear in the fronts of my head because she cut so short. It doesnt help that the haircut is SO sloppy. My mom was so angry, she decided to call and complain. The owner and hair dresser were very rude and sarcastic. Ive gotten my haircut about four times there, each time it being not good but something i could style and get away with. But this was TERRIBLE. I will never return back, and i will never recommend them to any of my friends or family. I have gotten quite a few people to go there, who get very expensive services done, who were also not pleased at all. If they were sorry about not giving me what i wanted and apologized instead of being assholes and saying "do you want to come in and get it cut shorter??" I would have let it go. But seriously?
